Independence Polynomials of 2-step Nilpotent Lie Algebras
Published in Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra, Volume 230, Issue 7, 2026, 108169 • View Publication • BIB
Motivated by the Dani-Mainkar construction, we extend the notion of independence polynomial of graphs to arbitrary 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras. After establishing efficiently computable upper and lower bounds for the independence number, we discuss a metric-dependent generalization motivated by a quantum mechanical interpretation of our construction. As an application, we derive elementary bounds for the dimension of abelian subalgebras of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras.

Balanced subsets in root systems
Balanced and well-balanced subsets of the set of positive roots of compact Lie algebras arise naturally in problems related to Hermitian and spin geometry. In this paper we compute the maximal and minimal size of well-balanced subsets in all simple root systems.

Hidden Structure of Jack Littlewood-Richardson Coefficients
We argue that Jack Littlewood-Richardson coefficients $g_{μν}^λ(α)$ are specialisations of certain novel polynomials. For the triple of partitions $(μ,ν,λ)=(21,21,321)$, we prove the corresponding polynomial is invariant under $S_6 \times \mathbb{Z}_2$, which is identified as the automorphism group of the Johnson graph $J(6,3)$. We conjecture that these polynomials exhibit a factorization property on certain hyperplanes, which is a consequence of compatibility relations between polynomials associated to adjacent triples in the Young graph. As a consequence of this, we conjecture that the difference of adjacent Jack Littlewood-Richardson coefficients is divisible by the shared hook length.

Integral Shell Polytopes of Composition Algebras
Integral systems in real composition algebras give rise to finite metric configurations whose geometry is linked to both regular polytopes and root-systems. In this work we investigate, to our knowledge for the first time in this form, the shell polytopes obtained by fixing the integral norm and taking the convex hull of the corresponding integral elements. The first shells recover the familiar root-polytopal configurations attached to the classical Hurwitz systems, while the Okubo algebra gives a quite different behaviour. The Okubo integral closure does not recover the Gosset polytope directly: it selects a two-adic hierarchy whose first visible layers are a cross-polytope and a \(D_8\) root polytope. We further show that the natural intermediate lattice is isometric to the rescaled cubic lattice; consequently every shell decomposes into explicit orbits of the hyperoctahedral group \(W(B_8)\), and the higher Okubo shells admit a complete combinatorial description in cubic-lattice coordinates. The full \(E_8\) Gosset polytope is then recovered from the intermediate lattice by maximal-isotropic gluing along \((\ZZ/2)^4\). This gives an interplay between non-unital composition, integral lattice shadows, and the geometry of \(E_8\).
The comaximal graph of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra
In this paper, we introduce the comaximal graph $Γ(L)$ of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $L$, whose vertices are the nontrivial proper Lie subalgebras of $L$ over a field $\mathbb{F}$, and two vertices $A$ and $B$ are adjacent if and only if $\langle A, B\rangle =L$. We establish general structural properties, including a characterization of isolated vertices via the Frattini subalgebra and a criterion for completeness in terms of $μ$-algebras. We classify $Γ(L)$ for all Lie algebras of dimension at most three over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, providing an explicit description in each case. The resulting graphs exhibit a rich range of behaviors, depending on the structure of the derived algebra and the action of $\operatorname{ad}x$. For $L\cong \mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$, we determine several graph invariants, including the degree sequence, clique number, chromatic number, domination number, diameter, and radius, and show that $Γ(L)$ is connected and non-planar. The graph contains a large clique formed by the nonsplit semisimple lines together with the Borel subalgebras, while the nilpotent and split semisimple lines have a more restricted adjacency structure governed by their containment in Borel subalgebras.

Self-dual codes with group actions and invariants
In this paper, we define dual codes over arbitrary finite rings with respect to arbitrary bilinear forms and provide a generalization of Hayden's theorem (Bridges, Hall, and Hayden, 1981). Building on this foundation, we introduce the concept of $G$-dual codes for codes invariant under a permutation group $G$, referred to as $G$-codes. We then present several generalizations of Atsumi's MacWilliams identity (Atsumi, 1995; Chakraborty and Miezaki, 2023) for $G$-codes over finite rings with respect to general bilinear forms. Furthermore, we establish a $G$-analogue of the MacWilliams identity for $G$-full weight enumerators and introduce the notions of $G$-quadratic maps and $G$-representations for twisted modules, twisted rings, quadratic pairs, and form rings. By defining transformation groups for $G$-full weight enumerators, we extend the theory of Clifford--Weil groups (Nebe, Rains, and Sloane, 2004, 2006). Finally, we provide generalizations of Gleason-type theorems for these weight enumerators, demonstrating that the $G$-full weight enumerators of $G$-self-dual and $G$-isotropic codes are invariant under the Clifford--Weil groups and span the invariant subspaces of these groups.
Real tensor factorizations and generalized inverses under the $t$-product
The algebraic theory of third-order tensors under the $t$-product is naturally formulated over the complex field via Fourier block diagonalization. However, many applications require real-valued representations. In this paper, we investigate structural conditions ensuring that tensor factorizations and generalized inverses admit real realizations. We show that these conditions can be characterized through the conjugate-pairing structure of the Fourier frontal slices, which determines when transform-domain constructions yield real tensors after inverse transformation. As applications, we obtain real versions of several tensor factorizations and analyze the existence and structure of associated generalized inverses. These results provide a framework for transferring matrix-based constructions to real tensors while preserving the algebraic constraints of the $t$-product.

On Krull's Dimension Theorem for Certain Graded Rings and Its Applications
This paper explores the dimension theory of non-Noetherian graded rings by introducing the class of Hilbert-Serre rings. We generalize Krull's dimension theorem and Smoke's dimension theorem by establishing the fundamental inequalities $\dim(R) \le \operatorname{GKdim}_k(R) \le d(R)$ for any Hilbert-Serre ring $R$, where $d(R)$ is the pole order of its Poincaré series at $t=1$. Furthermore, we apply these results to initial algebras, proving that all these dimensions, including the transcendence degree, coincide for monomial algebras. Finally, we provide explicit examples demonstrating that these inequalities can be strict in general, even for integral domains.

A Ring structure on the Class of Combinatorial Games
J. Conway defined useful operations on the Class of combinatorial games and also introduced a notion of equivalence between games. Conway showed that, under his equivalence, games form a Group. However, Conway product is not well defined on equivalence classes of arbitrary games (though it is well defined for surreals). We consider an equivalence relation finer than Conway's and show that under such a relation combinatorial games actually form a Ring. We hint to other possible relations on the Class of combinatorial games.

On the automorphisms of the power semigroups of a numerical semigroup
If $H$ is a numerical semigroup (that is, a cofinite subset of the non-negative integers closed under addition), then the non-empty subsets of $H$ form a semigroup $\mathcal P(H)$ under the sumset operation induced by addition in $H$. Moreover, if $0 \in H$, then $\mathcal P(H)$ is a monoid with identity element $\{0\}$, and the family $\mathcal P_0(H)$ of all subsets of $H$ containing $0$ is a submonoid of $\mathcal P(H)$. We show that the automorphism group of $\mathcal P(H)$ is trivial, and the same holds for $\mathcal P_0(H)$ when $0 \in H$. The proofs blend ideas from combinatorics and semigroup theory.
Arboretum.hs: Symbolic manipulation for algebras of graphs
We design the Arboretum$.$hs package for symbolic computations with algebras of trees and more general graphs in Haskell. Thanks to the declarative nature of functional programming, the package's implementation closely follows mathematical definitions, making the code intuitive and transparent for users working with algebraic and combinatorial structures. To assist with current mathematical research, Arboretum$.$hs supports experimentation by facilitating the introduction of new algebraic operations, as well as providing functionality for rendering trees and forests through LaTeX integration. Compared to recent imperative implementations in languages such as Julia or Python, Arboretum$.$hs offers greater flexibility for manipulating and extending tree-based structures. Its use of Haskell enables safe programming and strong compile-time guarantees, serving both as a practical computational tool and a foundation for further research in algebraic combinatorics, beyond the setting of trees usually considered in the implementation of Butcher series, which are a fundamental tool for the analysis of numerical integrators.

Wedderburn decomposition of the rational group algebras of $\operatorname{SL}_2(q)$ and $\operatorname{PSL}_2(q)$
In this article, we derive explicit combinatorial formulas, depending only on $q$, for the Wedderburn decomposition of the rational group algebras of the finite linear groups $\operatorname{SL}_2(q)$ and $\operatorname{PSL}_2(q)$. Furthermore, we also determine the number of pairwise non-isomorphic simple $\mathbb Q G$-modules of each possible dimension for $G$ being either $\operatorname{SL}_2(q)$ or $\operatorname{PSL}_2(q)$.

Compositions of $n$-homomorphisms
We study $n$-homomorphisms in the sense of Khudaverdian--Voronov, but generalized to maps from arbitrary rings to arbitrary commutative rings. We show that the sum of an $n$-homomorphism and an $m$-homomorphism is an $\left( n+m\right) $-homomorphism, and that the composition of an $n$-homomorphism and an $m$-homomorphism is an $nm$-homomorphism. The proofs are entirely combinatorial.

Universal Fibonacci sequences and UFS-groupoids
In a binary groupoid $(G, *)$, a Fibonacci sequence is a recurrent sequence defined by $f_1 = a, f_2 = b, \ldots, f_n = f_{n - 2} * f_{n - 1}$. A universal Fibonacci sequence (UFS) is a singly or doubly infinite sequence whose set of suffixes coincides precisely with the set of all Fibonacci sequences in the groupoid. This paper studies UFS-groupoids, i.e., groupoids that admit a universal Fibonacci sequence (UFS). It is shown that every nontrivial UFS-groupoid is at most countable, locally cyclic, and non-power-associative; that the right-cancellative law holds for all but possibly one pair of elements; that no neutral element or zero element exists; and that there is at most one idempotent element. It has been proved that the class of UFS-groupoids is closed under taking subgroupoids and homomorphic images, but is not closed under finite direct products. A complete classification of UFS-groupoids is given in terms of the cardinality of $G$ and the periodicity of the UFS. Finite UFS-groupoids are described combinatorially via de Bruijn sequences. The number of distinct UFS-groupoids on a finite set is determined, and explicit constructions are provided for both finite and infinite cases across all periodicity classes.

On the structure of approximate rings
By a [$K$-]approximate subring of a ring we mean an additively symmetric subset $X$ such that $X \cdot X \cup (X + X)$ is covered by finitely many [resp.\ $K$] additive translates of $X$. We prove a structure theorem for finite approximate subrings. Our aim is to develop a general framework for the sum-product phenomenon that applies uniformly across arbitrary rings. The main result identifies nilpotent quotients as the fundamental obstruction to growth under both addition and multiplication. Another application of the main structure theorem is a ring-theoretic counterpart of Gromov's theorem on groups of polynomial growth. The principal tool in the proof is the existence of definable locally compact models for arbitrary approximate subrings from [Kru24]. This existence theorem extends beyond the finite (and pseudofinite) setting. To illustrate the scope of the method, we also establish a structure theorem for uniformly discrete approximate subrings of semi-simple real algebras, generalizing a classical sum-product result of Meyer.

Independent domination polynomial of comaximal graphs of commutative rings
Published in Algebra Colloquium, in the second issue of 2026 • View Publication • BIB
The comaximal graph $ Γ(R) $ of a commutative ring $R$ is a simple graph with vertex set $ R $ and two distinct vertices $ a $ and $b $ of $ Γ(R) $ are adjacent if and only if $ aR+bR=R $, where $ aR $ is the ideal generated by $ a $ in $ R $. In this article, the independent domination polynomial $ D_{i}(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n}),x) $ of $ Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n}) $ is discussed, along with its unimodal and log-concave properties for certain values of $n$. Some auxiliary results related to $D_{i}(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n}),x)$ are presented in terms of their zeros. In addition, we determine the independence polynomial $ I(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n}),x ) $ of $ Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n}) $ for special values of $n$ and provide a general result associated with it. The bounds for the zero of the polynomial $ I(Γ(\mathbb{Z}_{n}),x ) $ are established, and their log-concave and unimodal properties are examined.

Translation Monoids and Recursive Evaluation in Finite Binary Algebras
Let \(A=(A,\star)\) be a finite binary algebra, not necessarily associative. For each \(n\geq 1\), every full binary bracketing on \(x_1,\dots,x_n\) determines an \(n\)-ary term operation on \(A\), and hence an evaluation word obtained by listing its values on \(A^n\) in lexicographic order. This produces an \(m^n\times C_{n-1}\) array, where \(m=|A|\) and \(C_{n-1}\) is the \((n-1)\)st Catalan number. We show that the recursive structure of these arrays is governed by the translation monoid \[ T(A)=\langle L_a,R_a:a\in A\rangle\leq A^A, \qquad L_a(x)=a\star x,\quad R_a(x)=x\star a. \] More precisely, context maps arising from subterms are exactly the elements of \(T(A)\), so every element of the translation monoid occurs as a recursive block map. We also prove that rank defines a natural chain of two-sided ideals in \(T(A)\), that the minimum-rank elements form a minimal nonempty two-sided ideal, and that Green's \(\mathcal J\)-classes are contained in rank layers. Finally, we show by example that equal rank does not determine the \(\mathcal J\)-class in general.
The free tracial post-Lie-Rinehart algebra of planar aromatic trees for the design of divergence-free Lie-group methods
Aromatic Butcher series were successfully introduced for the study and design of numerical integrators that preserve volume while solving differential equations in Euclidean spaces. They are naturally associated to pre-Lie-Rinehart algebras and pre-Hopf algebroids structures, and aromatic trees were shown to form the free tracial pre-Lie-Rinehart algebra. In this paper, we present the generalisation of aromatic trees for the study of divergence-free integrators on manifolds. We introduce planar aromatic trees, show that they span the free tracial post-Lie-Rinehart algebra, and apply them for deriving new Lie-group methods that preserve geometric divergence-free features up to a high order of accuracy.
Derivation of optimal stochastic Runge-Kutta methods with exotic and decorated Butcher series for the weak integration of stochastic dynamics
The design of numerical integrators for solving stochastic dynamics with high weak order relies on tedious calculations and is subject to a high number of order conditions. The original approaches from the literature consider strong approximations and adapt them for the weak approximation by replacing the iterated stochastic integrals by appropriate random variables. The methods obtained this way are sub-optimal in their number of function evaluations and the analysis of order conditions is unnecessarily complicated. We provide in this paper a novel approach, relying on well-chosen sets of random Runge-Kutta coefficients, that greatly reduce the number of order conditions. The approach is successfully applied to the creation of a collection of new stochastic Runge-Kutta methods of second weak order with an optimal number of function evaluations and a smaller number of random variables. The efficiency of the new methods is confirmed with numerical experiments and a modern algebraic approach using Hopf algebras is provided for the derivation and the study of the order conditions.
