Combinatorics of fully commutative involutions in classical Coxeter groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
An element of a Coxeter group $W$ is fully commutative if any two of its reduced decompositions are related by a series of transpositions of adjacent commuting generators. In the present work, we focus on fully commutative involutions, which are characterized in terms of Viennot's heaps. By encoding the latter by Dyck-type lattice walks, we enumerate fully commutative involutions according to their length, for all classical finite and affine Coxeter groups. In the finite cases, we also find explicit expressions for their generating functions with respect to the major index. Finally in affine type $A$, we connect our results to Fan--Green's cell structure of the corresponding Temperley--Lieb algebra.

Coxeter groups, quiver mutations and geometric manifolds
Published in J. London Math. Soc. 94 (2016), 38-60 • View PublicationBIB
We construct finite volume hyperbolic manifolds with large symmetry groups. The construction makes use of the presentations of finite Coxeter groups provided by Barot and Marsh and involves mutations of quivers and diagrams defined in the theory of cluster algebras. We generalize our construction by assigning to every quiver or diagram of finite or affine type a CW-complex with a proper action of a finite (or affine) Coxeter group. These CW-complexes undergo mutations agreeing with mutations of quivers and diagrams. We also generalize the construction to quivers and diagrams originating from unpunctured surfaces and orbifolds.

Long fully commutative elements in affine Coxeter groups
An element of a Coxeter group $W$ is called fully commutative if any two of its reduced decompositions can be related by a series of transpositions of adjacent commuting generators. In the preprint "Fully commutative elements in finite and affine Coxeter groups" (arXiv:1402.2166), R. Biagioli and the authors proved among other things that, for each irreducible affine Coxeter group, the sequence counting fully commutative elements with respect to length is ultimately periodic. In the present work, we study this sequence in its periodic part for each of these groups, and in particular we determine the minimal period. We also observe that in type $A$ affine we get an instance of the cyclic sieving phenomenon.

Characterization of Cyclically Fully commutative elements in finite and affine Coxeter Groups
An element of a Coxeter group W is fully commutative if any two of its reduced decompositions are related by a series of transpositions of adjacent commuting generators. An element of a Coxeter group W is cyclically fully commutative if any of its cyclic shifts remains fully commutative. These elements were studied in Boothby et al.. In particular the authors enumerated cyclically fully commutative elements in all Coxeter groups having a finite number of them. In this work we characterize and enumerate cyclically fully commutative elements according to their Coxeter length in all finite or affine Coxeter groups by using a new operation on heaps, the cylindric transformation. In finite types, this refines the work of Boothby et al., by adding a new parameter. In affine type, all the results are new. In particular, we prove that there is a finite number of cyclically fully commutative logarithmic elements in all affine Coxeter groups. We study afterwards the cyclically fully commutative involutions and prove that their number is finite in all Coxeter groups.
Fully commutative elements in finite and affine Coxeter groups

An element of a Coxeter group $W$ is fully commutative if any two of its reduced decompositions are related by a series of transpositions of adjacent commuting generators. These elements were extensively studied by Stembridge, in particular in the finite case. They index naturally a basis of the generalized Temperley--Lieb algebra. In this work we deal with any finite or affine Coxeter group $W$, and we give explicit descriptions of fully commutative elements. Using our characterizations we then enumerate these elements according to their Coxeter length, and find in particular that the corrresponding growth sequence is ultimately periodic in each type. When the sequence is infinite, this implies that the associated Temperley--Lieb algebra has linear growth.

Symmetry Groups of $A_n$ Hypergeometric Series
Published in SIGMA 10 (2014), 026, 29 pages • View PublicationBIB
Structures of symmetries of transformations for Holman-Biedenharn-Louck $A_n$ hypergeometric series: $A_n$ terminating balanced ${}_4 F_3$ series and $A_n$ elliptic ${}_{10} E_9$ series are discussed. Namely the description of the invariance groups and the classification all of possible transformations for each types of $A_n$ hypergeometric series are given. Among them, a "periodic" affine Coxeter group which seems to be new in the literature arises as an invariance group for a class of $A_n$ ${}_4 F_3$ series.

Coxeter groups and their quotients arising from cluster algebras
Published in Int. Math. Res. Notices (2016), 5135-5186 • View PublicationBIB
In a recent paper, Barot and Marsh presented an explicit construction of presentation of a finite Weyl group by any seed of corresponding cluster algebra, i.e. by any diagram mutation-equivalent to an orientation of a Dynkin diagram with given Weyl group. Extending their construction to the affine case, we obtain presentations for all affine Coxeter groups. Furthermore, we generalize the construction to the settings of diagrams arising from unpunctured triangulated surfaces and orbifolds, which leads to presentations of corresponding groups as quotients of numerous distinct Coxeter groups.

Bounding reflection length in an affine Coxeter group
Published • View PublicationBIB
In any Coxeter group, the conjugates of elements in the standard minimal generating set are called reflections and the minimal number of reflections needed to factor a particular element is called its reflection length. In this article we prove that the reflection length function on an affine Coxeter group has a uniform upper bound. More precisely we prove that the reflection length function on an affine Coxeter group that naturally acts faithfully and cocompactly on $\R^n$ is bounded above by $2n$ and we also show that this bound is optimal. Conjecturally, spherical and affine Coxeter groups are the only Coxeter groups with a uniform bound on reflection length.

Non-cancellable elements in type affine $C$ Coxeter groups

Let $(W,S)$ be a Coxeter system and suppose that $w \in W$ is fully commutative (in the sense of Stembridge) and has a reduced expression beginning (respectively, ending) with $s \in S$. If there exists $t\in S$ such that $s$ and $t$ do not commute and $tw$ (respectively, $wt$) is no longer fully commutative, we say that $w$ is left (respectively, right) weak star reducible by $s$ with respect to $t$. In this paper, we classify the fully commutative elements in Coxeter groups of types $B$ and affine $C$ that are irreducible under weak star reductions. In a sequel to this paper, the classification of the weak star irreducible elements in a Coxeter system of type affine $C$ will provide the groundwork for inductive arguments used to prove the faithfulness of a generalized Temperley--Lieb algebra of type affine $C$ by a particular diagram algebra.
