The V-Number of Binomial Edge Ideals: Minimal Cuts and Cycle Graphs
The v-number of a graded ideal is an invariant recently introduced in the context of coding theory, particularly in the study of Reed--Muller-type codes. In this work, we study the localized v-numbers of a binomial edge ideal $J_G$ associated to a finite simple graph $G$. We introduce a new approach to compute these invariants, based on the analysis of transversals in families of subsets arising from dependencies in certain rank-two matroids. This reduces the computation of localized v-numbers to the determination of the radical of an explicit ideal and provides upper bounds for these invariants. Using this method, we explicitly compute the localized v-numbers of $J_G$ at the associated minimal primes corresponding to minimal cuts of $G$. Additionally, we determine the v-number of binomial edge ideals for cycle graphs and give an almost complete answer to a recent conjecture, showing that the v-number of a cycle graph $C_n$ is either $\textstyle \left\lceil \frac{2n}{3} \right\rceil$ or $\textstyle \left\lceil \frac{2n}{3} \right\rceil - 1$.
On binomial edge ideals of corona of graphs
For a simple graph $G$, let $J_G$ denote the corresponding binomial edge ideal. This article considers the binomial edge ideal of the corona product of two connected graphs $G$ and $H$. The corona product of $G$ and $H$, denoted by $G\circ H$, is a construction where each vertex of $G$ is connected (via the coning-off) to an entire copy of $H$. This is a direct generalization of a cone construction. Previous studies have shown that for $J_{G \circ H}$ to be Cohen-Macaulay, both $G$ and $H$ must be complete graphs. However, there are no general formulae for the dimension, depth, or Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $J_{G\circ H}$ for all graphs $G$ and $H$. In this article, we provide a general formula for the dimension, depth and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the binomial edge ideals of certain corona and corona-type (somewhat a generalization of corona) products of special interests. Additionally, we study the Cohen-Macaulayness, unmixedness and related properties of binomial edge ideals corresponding to above class of graphs. We have also added a short note on the reduction of the Bolognini-Macchia-Strazzanti Conjecture to all graphs with a diameter of $3$.
Partial Betti splittings with applications to binomial edge ideals
We introduce the notion of a partial Betti splitting of a homogeneous ideal, generalizing the notion of a Betti splitting first given by Francisco, Hà, and Van Tuyl. Given a homogeneous ideal $I$ and two ideals $J$ and $K$ such that $I = J+K$, a partial Betti splitting of $I$ relates some of the graded Betti of $I$ with those of $J, K$, and $J\cap K$. As an application, we focus on the partial Betti splittings of binomial edge ideals. Using this new technique, we generalize results of Saeedi Madani and Kiani related to binomial edge ideals with cut edges, we describe a partial Betti splitting for all binomial edge ideals, and we compute the total second Betti number of binomial edge ideals of trees.
Regularity of two classes of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals
Some recent investigations indicate that for the classification of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals, it suffices to consider biconnected graphs with some whiskers attached (in short, `block with whiskers'). This paper provides explicit combinatorial formulae for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of two specific classes of Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals: (i) chain of cycles with whiskers and (ii) $r$-regular $r$-connected block with whiskers. For the first type, we introduce a new invariant of graphs in terms of the number of blocks in certain induced block graphs, and this invariant may help determine the regularity of other classes of binomial edge ideals. For the second type, we present the formula as a linear function of $r$.
On Conjecture of Binomial Edge Ideals of Linear Type
An ideal $I$ of a commutative ring $R$ is said to be of linear type when its Rees algebra and symmetric algebra exhibit isomorphism. In this paper, we investigate the conjecture put forth by Jayanthan, Kumar, and Sarkar (2021) that if $G$ is a tree or a unicyclic graph, then the binomial edge ideal of $G$ is of linear type. Our investigation validates this conjecture for trees. However, our study reveals that not all unicyclic graphs adhere to this conjecture.
Sequentially Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals
We prove that wheels and block graphs have sequentially Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals. Moreover, we provide a construction of new families of sequentially Cohen-Macaulay graphs by cones.
Multidegrees of binomial edge ideals
Let $G$ be a simple graph with binomial edge ideal $J_G$. We prove how to calculate the multidegree of $J_G$ based on combinatorial properties of $G$. In particular, we study the set $S_{\min}(G)$ defined as the collection of subsets of vertices whose prime ideals have minimum codimension. We provide results which assist in determining $S_{\min}(G)$, then calculate $S_{\min}(G)$ for star, horned complete, barbell, cycle, wheel, and friendship graphs, and use the main result of the paper to obtain the multidegrees of their binomial edge ideals.
On the symbolic $F$-splitness of binomial edge ideals
We study the symbolic $F$-splitness of families of binomial edge ideals. We also study the strong $F$-regularity of the symbolic blowup algebras of families of binomial edge ideals. We make use of Fedder-like criteria and combinatorial properties of the graphs associated to the binomial edge ideals in order to approach the aforementioned scenarios.
On the Depth of Generalized Binomial Edge Ideals
This research focuses on analyzing the depth of generalized binomial edge ideals. We extend the notion of $d$-compatible map for the pairs of a complete graph and an arbitrary graph, and using it, we give a combinatorial lower bound for the depth of generalized binomial edge ideals. Subsequently, we determine an upper bound for the depth of generalized binomial edge ideals in terms of the vertex-connectivity of graphs. We demonstrate that the difference between the upper and lower bounds can be arbitrarily large, even in cases when one of the bounds is sharp. In addition, we calculate the depth of generalized binomial edge ideals of certain classes of graphs, including cyclic graphs and graphs with Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals.

In this paper, we investigate whether the symbolic and ordinary powers of a binomial edge ideal $J_{G}$ are equal. We show that the equality $J_{G}^{t}=J_{G}^{(t)}$ holds for every $t \geq 1$ when $|Ass(J_{G})|=2$. Moreover, if $G$ is a caterpillar tree, then one has the same equality. Finally, we characterize the generalized caterpillar graphs which the equality of symbolic and ordinary powers of $J_{G}$ occurs.

In this paper, we investigate when symbolic and ordinary powers of the parity binomial edge ideal of a graph fail to be equal. It turns out that if $\mathcal{I}_{G}$ is the parity binomial edge ideal of a graph $G$, then in each of the following cases the symbolic power $\mathcal{I}_{G}^{(t)}$ and the ordinary power $\mathcal{I}_{G}^t$ are not equal for some $t$: (i) the clique number of $G$ is greater than 3; (ii) $G$ has a net; or (iii) $G$ has a PT as an induced subgraph.

In this article, we study algebraic properties of binomial edge ideals of Levi graphs associated with certain plane curve arrangements. Using combinatorial properties of Levi graphs, we discuss the Cohen-Macaulayness of binomial edge ideals of Levi graphs associated to some curve arrangements in the complex projective plane, like the $d$-arrangement of curves and the conic-line arrangements. We also discuss the existence of certain induced cycles in the Levi graphs of these arrangements and obtain lower bounds for the regularity of powers of the corresponding binomial edge ideals.
Combinatorics of Castelnuovo-Mumford Regularity of Binomial Edge Ideals
Since the introduction of binomial edge ideals $J_{G}$ by Herzog et al. and independently Ohtani, there has been significant interest in relating algebraic invariants of the binomial edge ideal with combinatorial invariants of the underlying graph $G$. Here, we take up a question considered by Herzog and Rinaldo regarding Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity of block graphs. To this end, we introduce a new invariant $ν(G)$ associated to any simple graph $G$, defined as the maximal total length of a certain collection of induced paths within $G$ subject to conditions on the induced subgraph. We prove that for any graph $G$, $ν(G) \leq \text{reg}(J_{G})-1$, and that the length of a longest induced path of $G$ is less than or equal to $ν(G)$; this refines an inequality of Matsuda and Murai. We then investigate the question: when is $ν(G) = \text{reg}(J_{G})-1$? We prove that equality holds when $G$ is closed; this gives a new characterization of a result of Ene and Zarojanu, and when $G$ is bipartite and $J_{G}$ is Cohen-Macaulay; this gives a new characterization of a result of Jayanathan and Kumar. For a block graph $G$, we prove that $ν(G)$ admits a combinatorial characterization independent of any auxiliary choices, and we prove that $ν(G) = \text{reg}(J_{G})-1$. This gives $\text{reg}(J_{G})$ a combinatorial interpretation for block graphs, and thus answers the question of Herzog and Rinaldo.

Several algebraic properties of a binomial edge ideal $J_G$ can be interpreted in terms of combinatorial properties of its associated graph $G$. In particular, the so-called cut sets of a graph $G$, special sets of vertices that disconnect $G$ in a minimal way, play an important role since they are in bijection with the minimal prime ideals of $J_G$. In this paper we establish the first graph-theoretical characterization of binomial edge ideals $J_G$ satisfying Serre's condition $(S_2)$ by proving that this is equivalent to having $G$ accessible, which means that $J_G$ is unmixed and the cut sets of $G$ form an accessible set system. The proof relies on the combinatorial structure of the Stanley-Reisner simplicial complex of a multigraded generic initial ideal of $J_G$, whose facets can be described in terms of cut sets. Another key step in the proof consists in proving the equivalence between accessibility and strong accessibility for the collection of cut sets of $G$ with $J_G$ unmixed. This result, interesting on its own, provides the first relevant class of set systems for which the previous two notions are equivalent.
Invariants of Binomial Edge Ideals via Linear Programs
We associate to every graph a linear program for packings of vertex disjoint paths. We show that the optimal primal and dual values of the corresponding integer program are the binomial grade and height of the binomial edge ideal of the graph. We deduce from this a new combinatorial characterization of graphs of König type and use it to show that all trees are of König type.
The log canonical threshold and the F-threshold are important invariants associated to the singularities of a variety in characteristic $0$ and characteristic $p$. We show that the optimal value of the linear program (computed over the rationals) agrees with both the F-threshold and the log canonical threshold of the binomial edge ideal if the graph is a block graph or of König type. We conjecture that this linear program computes the log canonical threshold of the binomial edge ideal of any graph.
Our results resemble theorems on monomial ideals arising from hypergraphs due to Howald and others.
Connected domination in graphs and v-numbers of binomial edge ideals
The v-number of a graded ideal is an algebraic invariant introduced by Cooper et al., and originally motivated by problems in algebraic coding theory. In this paper we study the case of binomial edge ideals and we establish a significant connection between their v-numbers and the concept of connected domination in graphs. More specifically, we prove that the localization of the v-number at one of the minimal primes of the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ of a graph $G$ coincides with the connected domination number of the defining graph, providing a first algebraic description of the connected domination number. As an immediate corollary, we obtain a sharp combinatorial upper bound for the v-number of binomial edge ideals of graphs. Lastly, building on some known results on edge ideals, we analyze how the v-number of $J_G$ behaves under Gröbner degeneration when $G$ is a closed graph.
Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals of small graphs

A combinatorial property that characterizes Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals has long been elusive. A recent conjecture ties the Cohen-Macaulayness of a binomial edge ideal $J_G$ to special disconnecting sets of vertices of its underlying graph $G$, called \textit{cut sets}. More precisely, the conjecture states that $J_G$ is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if $J_G$ is unmixed and the collection of the cut sets of $G$ is an accessible set system. In this paper we prove the conjecture theoretically for all graphs with up to $12$ vertices and develop an algorithm that allows to computationally check the conjecture for all graphs with up to $15$ vertices and all blocks with whiskers where the block has at most $11$ vertices. This significantly extends previous computational results.

Closed graphs have been characterized by Herzog et al. as the graphs whose binomial edge ideals have a quadratic Gröbner basis with respect to a diagonal term order. In this paper, we focus on a generalization of closed graphs, namely weakly-closed graphs (or co-comparability graphs). Build on some results about Knutson ideals of generic matrices, we characterize weakly closed graphs as the only graphs whose binomial edge ideals are Knutson ideals for a certain polynomial $f$. In doing so, we re-prove Matsuda's theorem about the F-purity of binomial edge ideals of weakly closed graphs in positive characteristic and we extend it to generalized binomial edge ideals. Furthermore, we give a characterization of weakly closed graphs in terms of the minimal primes of their binomial edge ideals and we characterize all minimal primes of Knutson ideals for this choice of $f$.
