A graph is closed when its vertices have a labeling by $[n]$ such that the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ has a quadratic Gröbner basis with respect to the lexicographic order induced by $x_1 > \cdots > x_n > y_1> \cdots > y_n$. In this paper, we generalize this notion and study the so called $m-$closed graphs. We find equivalent condition to $3-$closed property of an arbitrary tree $T$. Using it, we classify a class of $3-$closed trees. The primary decomposition of this class of graphs is also studied.

We study the equality of the extremal Betti numbers of the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ and those of its initial ideal ${\rm in}(J_G)$ of a closed graph $G$. We prove that in some cases there is an unique extremal Betti number for ${\rm in}(J_G)$ and as a consequence there is an unique extremal Betti number for $J_G$ and these extremal Betti numbers are equal

Let $J_G$ be the binomial edge ideal of a graph $G$. We characterize all graphs whose binomial edge ideals, as well as their initial ideals, have regularity $3$. Consequently we characterize all graphs $G$ such that $J_G$ is extremal Gorenstein. Indeed, these characterizations are consequences of an explicit formula we obtain for the regularity of the binomial edge ideal of the join product of two graphs. Finally, by using our regularity formula, we discuss some open problems in the literature. In particular we disprove a conjecture in \cite{CDI} on the regularity of weakly closed graphs.

We classify the bipartite graphs $G$ whose binomial edge ideal $J_G$ is Cohen-Macaulay. The connected components of such graphs can be obtained by gluing a finite number of basic blocks with two operations. In this context we prove the converse of a well-known result due to Hartshorne, showing that the Cohen-Macaulayness of these ideals is equivalent to the connectedness of their dual graphs. We study interesting properties also for non-bipartite graphs and in the unmixed case, constructing classes of bipartite graphs with $J_G$ unmixed and not Cohen-Macaulay.

We study the Koszul property of a standard graded $K$-algebra $R$ defined by the binomial edge ideal of a pair of graphs $(G_1,G_2)$. We show that the following statements are equivalent: (i) $R$ is Koszul; (ii) the defining ideal $J_{G_1,G_2}$ of $R$ has a quadratic Gröbner basis; (iii) the graded maximal ideal of $R$ has linear quotients with respect to a suitable order of its generators
On the binomial edge ideals of proper interval graphs
We prove several cases of the Betti number conjecture for the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ of a proper interval graph $G$ (also known as closed graph). Namely, we show that this conjecture is true for the linear strand of $J_G$, and true in general for any proper interval graph $G$ such that the regularity of $S/J_G$ equals two.
Graph Connectivity and Binomial Edge Ideals

We relate homological properties of a binomial edge ideal $\mathcal{J}_G$ to invariants that measure the connectivity of a simple graph $G$. Specifically, we show if $R/\mathcal{J}_G$ is a Cohen-Macaulay ring, then graph toughness of $G$ is exactly $\frac{1}{2}$. We also give an inequality between the depth of $R/\mathcal{J}_G$ and the vertex-connectivity of $G$. In addition, we study the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity, and the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity of $R/\mathcal{J}_G$.

We obtain an improved lower bound for the regularity of the binomial edge ideals of trees. We prove an upper bound for the regularity of the binomial edge ideals of certain subclass of block-graphs. As a consequence we obtain sharp upper and lower bounds for the regularity of binomial edge ideals of a class of trees called lobsters. We also obtain precise expressions for the regularities of binomial edge ideals of certain classes of trees and block graphs.

We study unmixed and Cohen-Macaulay properties of the binomial edge ideal of some classes of graphs. We compute the depth of the binomial edge ideal of a generalized block graph. We also characterize all generalized block graphs whose binomial edge ideals are Cohen-Macaulay and unmixed. So that we generalize the results of Ene, Herzog and Hibi on block graphs. Moreover, we study unmixedness and Cohen-Macaulayness of the binomial edge ideal of some graph products such as the join and corona of two graphs with respect to the original graphs'.

We prove a conjectured upper bound for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of binomial edge ideals of graphs, due to Matsuda and Murai. Indeed, we prove that $\mathrm{reg}(J_G)\leq n-1$ for any graph $G$ with $n$ vertices, which is not a path. Moreover, we study the behavior of the regularity of binomial edge ideals under the join product of graphs.

Parity binomial edge ideals of simple undirected graphs are introduced. Unlike binomial edge ideals, they do not have square-free Gröbner bases and are radical if only if the graph is bipartite or the characteristic of the ground field is not two. The minimal primes are determined and shown to encode combinatorics of even and odd walks in the graph. A mesoprimary decomposition is determined and shown to be a primary decomposition in characteristic two.

Some Computations for Binomial Edge Ideals and Koszul Duality
We make some observations on binomial edge ideals, with the characterization of their Koszulness as motivation. Inspired by results of Ene, Herzog and Hibi, we discuss building Koszul graphs from smaller pieces in a controlled manner. We characterize the Koszul property of cone graphs and compute the dual algebra of the quadratic algebra coming from an arbitrary binomial edge ideal. We compute the first two syzygies of the infinite minimal free resolution of the residue field over the algebra defined by a binomial edge ideal, and observe that they are always linear.

We find a class of block graphs whose binomial edge ideals have minimal regularity. As a consequence, we characterize the trees whose binomial edge ideals have minimal regularity. Also, we show that the binomial edge ideal of a block graph has the same depth as its initial ideal.

We characterize all graphs whose binomial edge ideals have pure resolutions. Moreover, we introduce a new switching of graphs which does not change some algebraic invariants of graphs, and using this, we study the linear strand of the binomial edge ideals for some classes of graphs. Also, we pose a conjecture on the linear strand of such ideals for every graph.
The regularity of binomial edge ideals of graphs
We prove two recent conjectures on some upper bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the binomial edge ideals of some different classes of graphs. We prove the conjecture of Matsuda and Murai for graphs which has a cut edge or a simplicial vertex, and hence for chordal graphs. We determine the regularity of the binomial edge ideal of the join of graphs in terms of the regularity of the original graphs, and consequently prove the conjecture of Matsuda and Murai for such a graph, and hence for complete $t$-partite graphs. We also generalize some results of Schenzel and Zafar about complete $t$-partite graphs. We also prove the conjecture due to the authors for a class of chordal graphs.
Extremal Betti numbers of some classes of binomial edge ideals
Let $G$ be a cycle or a complete bipartite graph. We show that the binomial edge ideal $J_{G}$ and its initial ideal with respect to the lexicographic order have the same extremal Betti number.
On Closed Graphs I
A graph is closed when its vertices have a labeling by [n] with a certain property first discovered in the study of binomial edge ideals. In this article, we prove that a connected graph has a closed labeling if and only if it is chordal, claw-free, and has a property we call narrow, which holds when every vertex is distance at most one from all longest shortest paths of the graph.
Cohen-Macaulay binomial edge ideals of small deviation
We classify all binomial edge ideals that are complete intersection and Cohen-Macaulay almost complete intersection. We also describe an algorithm and provide an implementation to compute primary decomposition of binomial edge ideals.
