On Distribution of Laplacian Eigenvalues of Graphs
The work in this thesis concerns the investigation of eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix, normalized Laplacian matrix, signless Laplacian matrix and distance signless Laplacian matrix of graphs. In Chapter 1, we present a brief introduction of spectral graph theory with some definitions.
Chapter $2$ deals with the sum of $ k $ largest Laplacian eigenvalues $ S_{k}(G) $ of graph $ G $ and Brouwer's conjecture. We obtain the upper bounds for $ S_{k}(G) $ for some classes of graphs and use them to verify Brouwer's conjecture for these classes of graphs. Also, we prove Brouwer's conjecture for more general classes of graphs.
In Chapter $3$, we investigate the Laplacian eigenvalues of graphs and the Laplacian energy conjecture for trees. We prove the Laplacian energy conjecture completely for trees of diameter $ 4 $. Further, we prove this conjecture for all trees having at most $ \frac{9n}{25}-2 $ non-pendent vertices. Also, we obtain the sufficient conditions for the truth of conjecture for trees of order $ n $.
In Chapter $4$, we determine the normalized Laplacian spectrum of the joined union of regular graphs and obtain the spectrum of some well known graphs. As consequences of joined union, we obtain the normalized Laplacian spectrum of power graphs associated to finite cyclic groups.
In Chapter $5$, we find the distance signless Laplacian spectrum of regular graphs and zero-divisor graphs associated to finite commutative ring. Also, we find the bounds for spectral radius of generalized distance matrix. Further, we obtain the generalized distance energy for bipartite graphs and trees. We prove that the complete bipartite graph has minimum generalized distance energy among all connected bipartite graphs. Besides, for $ α\in \big(0, \frac{2n}{3n-2}\big) $, we show that the star graph has minimum generalized distance energy among all trees.

A conjecture of Alon, Krivelevich, and Sudakov states that, for any graph $F$, there is a constant $c_F > 0$ such that if $G$ is an $F$-free graph of maximum degree $Δ$, then $χ(G) \leq c_F Δ/ \logΔ$. Alon, Krivelevich, and Sudakov verified this conjecture for a class of graphs $F$ that includes all bipartite graphs. Moreover, it follows from recent work by Davies, Kang, Pirot, and Sereni that if $G$ is $K_{t,t}$-free, then $χ(G) \leq (t + o(1)) Δ/ \logΔ$ as $Δ\to \infty$. We improve this bound to $(1+o(1)) Δ/\log Δ$, making the constant factor independent of $t$. We further extend our result to the DP-coloring setting (also known as correspondence coloring), introduced by Dvořák and Postle.
The Mixed Page Number of Graphs

A linear layout of a graph typically consists of a total vertex order, and a partition of the edges into sets of either non-crossing edges, called stacks, or non-nested edges, called queues. The stack (queue) number of a graph is the minimum number of required stacks (queues) in a linear layout. Mixed linear layouts combine these layouts by allowing each set of edges to form either a stack or a queue. In this work we initiate the study of the mixed page number of a graph which corresponds to the minimum number of such sets.
First, we study the edge density of graphs with bounded mixed page number. Then, we focus on complete and complete bipartite graphs, for which we derive lower and upper bounds on their mixed page number. Our findings indicate that combining stacks and queues is more powerful in various ways compared to the two traditional layouts.
Random Regular Bipartite Graphs Satisfy Weak Virial Positivity, for a Large Range of the Parameters
We deal with $r$-regular bipartite graphs with $2n$ vertices. In a previous paper, Butera, Pernici and the author have introduced a quantity $u(i)$, $u(i) = -\ln(i!m\_i)$, a function of the number of $i$-matchings, $m\_i$, and conjectured that the fraction of graphs that violate $Δ^k u(i) > 0$ for $k > 1$ vanishes as $n$ goes to infinity.
Here $Δ$ is the finite difference operator. We now more particularly define the "Virial Positivity Conjecture" as the conjecture that the fraction of graphs that satisfy $Δ^k u(i)$ go to 0 for all $k > 1$ and $i$, approaches 1 as $n$ goes to infinity. The "Weak Virial Positivity Conjecture" is the conjecture that for each $i$ and $k > 1$ the probability that $Δ^k u(i) > 0$ goes to $1$ as $n$ goes to infinity. The term Virial is used since the condition $Δ^k u(i) > 0$ corresponds to the positivity of the Virial coefficients for infinite regular lattices.
Herein we prove Weak Virial Positivity for the range of parameters $r < 11$, $i+k < 101$, $1 < k < 28$,or $i+k < 30$ all $r$. A formalism of Wanless as systematized by Pernici is central to this effort. Basically this paper is a corollary to our parallel attack on graph positivity in a previous paper. We assume basic knowledge of this previous paper.
Cubic planar bipartite graphs are dispersable
A graph is called dispersable if it has a book embedding in which each page has maximum degree 1 and the number of pages is the maximum degree. Bernhart and Kainen conjectured every k-regular bipartite graph is dispersable. Forty years later, Alam, Bekos, Gronemann, Kaufmann, and Pupyrev have disproved this conjecture, identifying nonplanar 3- and 4-regular bipartite graphs that are not dispersable. They also proved all cubic planar bipartite 3-connected graphs are dispersable and conjectured that the connectivity condition could be relaxed. We prove that every cubic planar bipartite multigraph is dispersable. A postscript is added which includes new references.
Hamiltonicity: Variants and Generalization in $P_5$-free Chordal Bipartite graphs
A bipartite graph is chordal bipartite if every cycle of length at least six has a chord in it. M$\ddot{\rm u}$ller \cite {muller1996Hamiltonian} has shown that the Hamiltonian cycle problem is NP-complete on chordal bipartite graphs by presenting a polynomial-time reduction from the satisfiability problem. The microscopic view of the reduction instances reveals that the instances are $P_9$-free chordal bipartite graphs, and hence the status of Hamiltonicity in $P_8$-free chordal bipartite graphs is open. In this paper, we identify the first non-trivial subclass of $P_8$-free chordal bipartite graphs which is $P_5$-free chordal bipartite graphs, and present structural and algorithmic results on $P_5$-free chordal bipartite graphs. We investigate the structure of $P_5$-free chordal bipartite graphs and show that these graphs have a {\em Nested Neighborhood Ordering (NNO)}, a special ordering among its vertices. Further, using this ordering, we present polynomial-time algorithms for classical problems such as the Hamiltonian cycle (path), also the variants and generalizations of the Hamiltonian cycle (path) problem. We also obtain polynomial-time algorithms for treewidth (pathwidth), and minimum fill-in in $P_5$-free chordal bipartite graph. We also present some results on complement graphs of $P_5$-free chordal bipartite graphs.
Combinatorial mutations of Newton-Okounkov polytopes arising from plabic graphs

It is known that the homogeneous coordinate ring of a Grassmannian has a cluster structure, which is induced from the combinatorial structure of a plabic graph. A plabic graph is a certain bipartite graph described on the disk, and there is a family of plabic graphs giving a cluster structure of the same Grassmannian. Such plabic graphs are related by the operation called square move which can be considered as the mutation in cluster theory. By using a plabic graph, we also obtain the Newton--Okounkov polytope which gives a toric degeneration of the Grassmannian. The purposes of this article is to survey these phenomena and observe the behavior of Newton--Okounkov polytopes under the operation called the combinatorial mutation of polytopes. In particular, we reinterpret some operations defined for Newton--Okounkov polytopes using the combinatorial mutation.
New bounds for Ramsey numbers $R(K_k-e,K_l-e)$
Let $R(H_1,H_2)$ denote the Ramsey number for the graphs $H_1, H_2$, and let $J_k$ be $K_k{-}e$. We present algorithms which enumerate all circulant and block-circulant Ramsey graphs for different types of graphs, thereby obtaining several new lower bounds on Ramsey numbers including: $49 \leq R(K_3,J_{12})$, $36 \leq R(J_4,K_8)$, $43 \leq R(J_4,J_{10})$, $52 \leq R(K_4,J_8)$, $37 \leq R(J_5,J_6)$, $43 \leq R(J_5,K_6)$, $65\leq R(J_5,J_7)$. We also use a gluing strategy to derive a new upper bound on $R(J_5,J_6)$. With both strategies combined, we prove the value of two Ramsey numbers: $R(J_5,J_6)=37$ and $R(J_5,J_7)=65$. We also show that the 64-vertex extremal Ramsey graph for $R(J_5,J_7)$ is unique. Furthermore, our algorithms also allow to establish new lower bounds and exact values on Ramsey numbers involving wheel graphs and complete bipartite graphs, including: $R(W_7,W_4) = 21$, $R(W_7,W_7) = 19$, $R(K_{3,4},K_{3,4}) = 25$, and $R(K_{3,5}, K_{3,5})=33$.
Cross-ratio degrees and perfect matchings

Cross-ratio degrees count configurations of points $z_1,\ldots, z_n \in \mathbb{P}^1$ satisfying $n - 3$ cross-ratio constraints, up to isomorphism. These numbers arise in multiple contexts in algebraic and tropical geometry, and may be viewed as combinatorial invariants of certain hypergraphs. We prove an upper bound on cross-ratio degrees in terms of the theory of perfect matchings on bipartite graphs. We also discuss several of the many perspectives on cross-ratio degrees -- including a connection to Gromov-Witten theory -- and give many example computations.

In this paper, we establish a couple of results on extremal problems in bipartite graphs. Firstly, we show that every sufficiently large bipartite graph with average degree $D$ and with $n$ vertices on each side has a balanced independent set containing $(1-ε) \frac{\log D}{D} n$ vertices from each side for small $ε> 0$. Secondly, we prove that the vertex set of every sufficiently large balanced bipartite graph with maximum degree at most $Δ$ can be partitioned into $(1+ε)\fracΔ{\log Δ}$ balanced independent sets. Both of these results are algorithmic and best possible up to a factor of 2, which might be hard to improve as evidenced by the phenomenon known as `algorithmic barrier' in the literature. The first result improves a recent theorem of Axenovich, Sereni, Snyder, and Weber in a slightly more general setting. The second result improves a theorem of Feige and Kogan about coloring balanced bipartite graphs.

An \emph{equitable $(q, r)$-tree-coloring} of a graph $G$ is a $q$-coloring of $G$ such that the subgraph induced by each color class is a forest of maximum degree at most $r$ and the sizes of any two color classes differ by at most $1.$ Let the \emph{strong equitable vertex $r$-arboricity} of a graph $G,$ denoted by $va^\equiv_r (G)$, be the minimum $p$ such that $G$ has an equitable $(q, r)$-tree-coloring for every $q\geq p.$
The values of $va^\equiv_1 (K_{n,n})$ were investigated by Tao and Lin and Wu, Zhang, and Li where exact values of $va^\equiv_1 (K_{n,n})$ were found in some special cases. In this paper, we extend their results by giving the exact values of $va^\equiv_1 (K_{n,n})$ for all cases. In the process, we introduce a new function related to an equitable coloring and obtain a more general result by determining the exact value of each $va^\equiv_1 (K_{m,n})$ and $va^\equiv_1 (G)$ where $G$ is a balanced complete $k$-partite graph $K_{n,\ldots,n}.$

Cluster algebra structures for Grassmannians and their (open) positroid strata are controlled by a Postnikov diagram D or, equivalently, a dimer model on the disc, as encoded by either a bipartite graph or the dual quiver (with faces). The associated dimer algebra A, determined directly by the quiver with a certain potential, can also be realised as the endomorphism algebra of a cluster-tilting object in an associated Frobenius cluster category. In this paper, we introduce a class of A-modules corresponding to perfect matchings of the dimer model of D and show that, when D is connected, the indecomposable projective A-modules are in this class. Surprisingly, this allows us to deduce that the cluster category associated to D embeds into the cluster category for the appropriate Grassmannian. We show that the indecomposable projectives correspond to certain matchings which have appeared previously in work of Muller-Speyer. This allows us to identify the cluster-tilting object associated to D, by showing that it is determined by one of the standard labelling rules constructing a cluster of Plücker coordinates from D. By computing a projective resolution of every perfect matching module, we show that Marsh-Scott's formula for twisted Plücker coordinates, expressed as a dimer partition function, is a special case of the general cluster character formula, and thus observe that the Marsh-Scott twist can be categorified by a particular syzygy operation in the Grassmannian cluster category.

Graph associahedra are generalized permutohedra arising as special cases of nestohedra and hypergraphic polytopes. The graph associahedron of a graph $G$ encodes the combinatorics of search trees on $G$, defined recursively by a root $r$ together with search trees on each of the connected components of $G-r$. In particular, the skeleton of the graph associahedron is the rotation graph of those search trees. We investigate the diameter of graph associahedra as a function of some graph parameters. We give a tight bound of $Θ(m)$ on the diameter of trivially perfect graph associahedra on $m$ edges. We consider the maximum diameter of associahedra of graphs on $n$ vertices and of given tree-depth, treewidth, or pathwidth, and give lower and upper bounds as a function of these parameters. We also prove that the maximum diameter of associahedra of graphs of pathwidth two is $Θ(n\log n)$. Finally, we give the exact diameter of the associahedra of complete split and of unbalanced complete bipartite graphs.
The feasible region of induced graphs

The feasible region $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ of a graph $F$ is the collection of points $(x,y)$ in the unit square such that there exists a sequence of graphs whose edge densities approach $x$ and whose induced $F$-densities approach $y$. A complete description of $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ is not known for any $F$ with at least four vertices that is not a clique or an independent set. The feasible region provides a lot of combinatorial information about $F$. For example, the supremum of $y$ over all $(x,y)\in Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ is the inducibility of $F$ and $Ω_{\rm ind}(K_r)$ yields the Kruskal-Katona and clique density theorems.
We begin a systematic study of $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ by proving some general statements about the shape of $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ and giving results for some specific graphs $F$. Many of our theorems apply to the more general setting of quantum graphs. For example, we prove a bound for quantum graphs that generalizes an old result of Bollobás for the number of cliques in a graph with given edge density. We also consider the problems of determining $Ω_{\rm ind}(F)$ when $F=K_r^-$, $F$ is a star, or $F$ is a complete bipartite graph. In the case of $K_r^-$ our results sharpen those predicted by the edge-statistics conjecture of Alon et. al. while also extending a theorem of Hirst for $K_4^-$ that was proved using computer aided techniques and flag algebras. The case of the 4-cycle seems particularly interesting and we conjecture that $Ω_{\rm ind}(C_4)$ is determined by the solution to the triangle density problem, which has been solved by Razborov.

For a bipartite graph $G$ with parts $X$ and $Y$, an $X$-interval coloring is a proper edge coloring of $G$ by integers such that the colors on the edges incident to any vertex in $X$ form an interval. Denote by $χ'_{int}(G,X)$ the minimum $k$ such that $G$ has an $X$-interval coloring with $k$ colors. The author and Toft conjectured [Discrete Mathematics 339 (2016), 2628--2639] that there is a polynomial $P(x)$ such that if $G$ has maximum degree at most $Δ$, then $χ'_{int}(G,X) \leq P(Δ)$. In this short note, we prove this conjecture; in fact, we prove that a cubic polynomial suffices. We also deduce some improved upper bounds on $χ'_{int}(G,X)$ for bipartite graphs with small maximum degree.

Let $G = (X, Y; E)$ be a bipartite graph with two vertex partition subsets $X$ and $Y$. $G$ is said to be balanced if $|X| = |Y|$. $G$ is said to be bipancyclic if it contains cycles of every even length from $4$ to $|V(G)|$. In this note, we present spectral conditions for the bipancyclic bipartite graphs.

Let $b(k,\ell,θ)$ be the maximum number of vertices of valency $k$ in a $(k,\ell)$-semiregular bipartite graph with second largest eigenvalue $θ$. We obtain an upper bound for $b(k,\ell,θ)$ for $0 < θ< \sqrt{k-1} + \sqrt{\ell-1}$. This bound is tight when there exists a distance-biregular graph with particular parameters, and we develop the necessary properties of distance-biregular graphs to prove this.
Some tight bounds on the minimum and maximum forcing numbers of graphs

Let $G$ be a simple graph with $2n$ vertices and a perfect matching. We denote by $f(G)$ and $F(G)$ the minimum and maximum forcing number of $G$, respectively.
Hetyei obtained that the maximum number of edges of graphs $G$ with a unique perfect matching is $n^2$. We know that $G$ has a unique perfect matching if and only if $f(G)=0$. Along this line, we generalize the classical result to all graphs $G$ with $f(G)=k$ for $0\leq k\leq n-1$, and characterize corresponding extremal graphs as well. Hence we get a non-trivial lower bound of $f(G)$ in terms of the order and size. For bipartite graphs, we gain corresponding stronger results. Further, we obtain a new upper bound of $F(G)$. For bipartite graphs $G$, Che and Chen (2013) obtained that $f(G)=n-1$ if and only if $G$ is complete bipartite graph $K_{n,n}$. We completely characterize all bipartite graphs $G$ with $f(G)= n-2$.
Bar-and-joint rigidity on the moment curve coincides with cofactor rigidity on a conic

We show that, for points along the moment curve, the bar-and-joint rigidity matroid and the hyperconnectivity matroid coincide, and that both coincide with the $C^{d-2}_{d-1}$-cofactor rigidity of points along any (non-degenerate) conic in the plane. For hyperconnectivity in dimension two, having the points in the moment curve is no loss of generality.
We also show that, restricted to bipartite graphs, the bar-and-joint rigidity matroid is freer than the hyperconnectivity matroid.
