We study the weighted partition function for lozenge tilings, with weights given by multivariate rational functions originally defined by Morales, Pak and Panova (2019) in the context of the factorial Schur functions. We prove that this partition function is symmetric for large families of regions. We employ both combinatorial and algebraic proofs.

We give a formula for the number of lozenge tilings of a hexagon on the triangular lattice with unit triangles removed from arbitrary positions along two non-adjacent, non-opposite sides. Our formula implies that for certain families of such regions, the ratios of their numbers of tilings are given by simple product formulas.
Enumeration of symmetric Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns by linear algebra
We shall present a ``linear algebraic'' proof (involving some calculations in the algebra of linear operators on a vector space of polynomials and some manipulations of determinants) of the formula for the enumeration of symmetric Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns with fixed bottom row, which was proved by Tri Lai in the context of enumerating symmetric lozenge tilings of a ``halved'' hexagon with ``dents''.

In a recent paper, Lai and Rohatgi proved a "shuffling theorem" for lozenge tilings of a hexagon with "dents" (i.e., missing triangles). Here, we shall point out that this follows immediately from the enumeration of Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns with given bottom row. This observation is also contained in a recent preprint of Byun.

We explore some probabilistic applications arising in connections with $K$-theoretic symmetric functions. For instance, we determine certain corner distributions of random lozenge tilings and plane partitions. We also introduce some distributions that are naturally related to the corner growth model. Our main tools are dual symmetric Grothendieck polynomials and normalized Schur functions.

We consider regions obtained from 120 degree rotationally invariant hexagons by removing a core and three equal satellites (all equilateral triangles) so that the resulting region is both vertically symmetric and 120 degree rotationally invariant, and give simple product formulas for the number of their lozenge tilings. We describe a new method of approach for proving these formulas, and give the full details for an illustrative special case. As a byproduct, we are also able to generalize this special case in a different direction, by finding a natural counterpart of a twenty year old formula due to Ciucu, Eisenkölbl, Krattenthaler and Zare, which went unnoticed until now. The general case of the original problem will be treated in a subsequent paper. We then work out consequences for the correlation of holes, which were the original motivation for this study.
Lozenge Tilings Of the Equilateral Triangle
We consider incomplete tilings of the equilateral triangle of edge length n that is subdivided into n^2 regular equilateral smaller unit triangles. Pairs of the unit triangles that share a side may be converted into lozenges, leaving some subset of the unit triangles untouched. We count numerically these coverings by lozenges and unit triangles for edge lengths n <= 6: the total and the detailed refinement as a function of the number of lozenges.
Tilings of hexagons with a removed triad of bowties

In this paper we consider arbitrary hexagons on the triangular lattice with three arbitrary bowtie-shaped holes, whose centers form an equilateral triangle. The number of lozenge tilings of such general regions is not expected --- and indeed is not --- given by a simple product formula. However, when considering a certain natural normalized counterpart of any such region, we prove that the ratio between the number of tilings of the original and the number of tilings of the normalized region is given by a simple, conceptual product formula. Several seemingly unrelated previous results from the literature --- including Lai's formula for hexagons with three dents and Ciucu and Krattenthaler's formula for hexagons with a removed shamrock --- follow as immediate consequences of our result.
Universality for Lozenge Tiling Local Statistics

In this paper we consider uniformly random lozenge tilings of arbitrary domains approximating (after suitable normalization) a closed, simply-connected subset of $\mathbb{R}^2$ with piecewise smooth, simple boundary. We show that the local statistics of this model around any point in the liquid region of its limit shape are given by the infinite-volume, translation-invariant, extremal Gibbs measure of the appropriate slope, thereby confirming a prediction of Cohn-Kenyon-Propp from 2001 in the case of lozenge tilings. Our proofs proceed by locally coupling a uniformly random lozenge tiling with a model of Bernoulli random walks conditioned to never intersect, whose convergence of local statistics has been recently understood by the work of Gorin-Petrov. Central to implementing this procedure is to establish a local law for the random tiling, which states that the associated height function is approximately linear on any mesoscopic scale.
Three product formulas for ratios of tiling counts of hexagons with collinear holes
Rosengren found an explicit formula for a certain weighted enumeration of lozenge tilings of a hexagon with an arbitrary triangular hole. He pointed out that a certain ratio corresponding to two such regions has a nice product formula. In this paper, we generalize this to hexagons with arbitrary collinear holes. It turns out that, by using same approach, we can also generalize Ciucu's work on the number and the number of centrally symmetric tilings of a hexagon with a fern removed from its center. This proves a recent conjecture of Ciucu.
A short proof of two shuffling theorems for tilings and a weighted generalization

Recently, Lai and Rohatgi discovered a shuffling theorem for lozenge tilings of doubly-dented hexagons, which generalized the earlier work of Ciucu. Later, Lai proved an analogous theorem for centrally symmetric tilings, which generalized some other previous work of Ciucu. In this paper, we give a unified proof of these two shuffling theorems, which also covers the weighted case. Unlike the original proofs, our arguments do not use the graphical condensation method but instead rely on a well-known tiling enumeration formula due to Cohn, Larsen, and Propp. Fulmek independently found a similar proof of Lai and Rohatgi's original shuffling theorem. Our proof also gives a combinatorial explanation for Ciucu's recent conjecture relating the total number and the number of centrally symmetric lozenge tilings.
A Shuffling Theorem for Centrally Symmetric Tilings

Rohatgi and the author recently proved a shuffling theorem for lozenge tilings of `doubly-dented hexagons' (arXiv:1905.08311). The theorem can be considered as a hybrid between two classical theorems in the enumeration of tilings: MacMahon's theorem about centrally symmetric hexagons and Cohn-Larsen-Prop's theorem about semihexagons with dents. In this paper, we consider a similar shuffling theorem for the centrally symmetric tilings of the doubly-dented hexagons. Our theorem also implies a conjecture posed by the author in arXiv:1803.02792 about the enumeration of centrally symmetric tilings of hexagons with three arrays of triangular holes. This enumeration, in turn, can be considered as a common generalization of (a tiling-equivalent version of) Stanley's enumeration of self-complementary plane partitions and Ciucu's work on symmetries of the shamrock structure. Moreover, our enumeration also confirms a recent conjecture posed by Ciucu in arXiv:1906.02951.
Centrally symmetric tilings of fern-cored hexagons
In this paper we enumerate the centrally symmetric lozenge tilings of a hexagon with a fern removed from its center. The proof is based on a variant of Kuo's graphical condensation method. An unexpected connection with the total number of tilings is established~---~when suitably normalized, the number of centrally symmetric tilings is equal to the square root of the total number of tilings. The results we present can be regarded as a new extension of the enumeration of self-complementary plane partitions that fit in a box.
Correlation of a macroscopic dent in a wedge with mixed boundary conditions
As part of our ongoing work on the enumeration of symmetry classes of lozenge tilings of hexagons with certain four-lobed structures removed from their center, we consider the case of the tilings which are both vertically and horizontally symmetric. In order to handle this, we need an extension of Kuo's graphical condensation method, which works in the presence of free boundary. Our results allow us to compute exactly the correlation in a sea of dimers of a macroscopic dent in a 90 degree wedge with mixed boundary conditions. We use previous results to compute the correlation of the corresponding symmetrized system with no boundary, and show that its fourth root has the same log-asymptotics as the correlation of the dent in the 90 degree wedge. This is the first result of this kind involving a macroscopic defect. It suggests that the connections between dimer systems with gaps and 2D electrostatics may be deeper that previously thought.
Symmetries of shamrocks IV: The self-complementary case
In this paper we enumerate the centrally symmetric lozenge tilings of a hexagon with a shamrock removed from its center. Our proof is based on a variant of Kuo's graphical condensation method in which only three of the four involved vertices are on the same face. As a special case, we obtain a new proof of the enumeration of the self-complementary plane partitions.
A shuffling theorem for lozenge tilings of doubly-dented hexagons
MacMahon's theorem on plane partitions yields a simple product formula for tiling number of a hexagon, and Cohn, Larsen and Propp's theorem provides an explicit enumeration for tilings of a dented semihexagon via semi-strict Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns. In this paper, we prove a natural hybrid of the two theorems for hexagons with an arbitrary set of unit triangles removed along a horizontal axis. In particular, we show that the `shuffling' of removed unit triangles only changes the tiling number of the region by a simple multiplicative factor. Our main result generalizes a number of known enumerations and asymptotic enumerations of tilings. We also reveal connections of the main result to the study of symmetric functions and $q$-series.
A new determinant for the $Q$-enumeration of alternating sign matrices

Fischer provided a new type of binomial determinant for the number of alternating sign matrices involving the third root of unity. In this paper we prove that her formula, when replacing the third root of unity by an indeterminate $q$, is actually the $(2+q+q^{-1})$-enumeration of alternating sign matrices. By evaluating a generalisation of this determinant we are able to reprove a conjecture of Mills, Robbins and Rumsey stating that the $Q$-enumeration is a product of two polynomials in $Q$. Further we provide a closed product formula for the generalised determinant in the 0-,1- 2- and 3-enumeration case, leading to a new proof of the $1$-,$2$- and $3$-enumeration of alternating sign matrices, and a factorisation in the $4$-enumeration case. Finally we relate the $1$-enumeration of our generalised determinant to the determinant evaluations of Ciucu, Eisenkölbl, Krattenthaler and Zare, which counts weighted cyclically symmetric lozenge tilings of a hexagon with a triangular hole and is a generalisation of a famous result by Andrews.
Asymptotics for the number of standard tableaux of skew shape and for weighted lozenge tilings

We prove and generalize a conjecture in arXiv:1610.0474(4) about the asymptotics of $\frac{1}{\sqrt{n!}} f^{λ/μ}$, where $f^{λ/μ}$ is the number of standard Young tableaux of skew shape $λ/μ$ which have stable limit shape under the $1/\sqrt{n}$ scaling. The proof is based on the variational principle on the partition function of certain weighted lozenge tilings.
Alternating sign trapezoids and a constant term approach

We show that there is the same number of (n,l)-alternating sign trapezoids as there is of column strict shifted plane partitions of class l-1 with at most n parts in the top row, thereby proving a result that was conjectured independently by Behrend and Aigner. The first objects generalize alternating sign triangles, which have recently been introduced by Ayyer, Behrend and the author who showed that they are counted by the same formula as alternating sign matrices. Column strict shifted plane partitions of a fixed class were introduced in a slightly different form by Andrews, and they essentially generalize descending plane partitions. They also correspond to cyclically symmetric lozenge tilings of a hexagon with a triangular hole in the center. In addition, we also provide three statistics on each class of objects and show that their joint distribution is the same. We prove our result by employing a constant term approach that is based on the author's operator formula for monotone triangles. This paper complements a forthcoming paper of Behrend and the author, where the six-vertex model approach is used to show equinumeracy as well as generalizations involving statistics that are different from those considered in the present paper.
Lozenge tilings of hexagons with central holes and dents

Ciucu showed that the number of lozenge tilings of a hexagon in which a chain of equilateral triangles of alternating orientations, called a `\emph{fern}', has been removed in the center is given by a simple product formula (Adv. Math. 2017). In this paper, we present a multi-parameter generalization of this work by giving an explicit tiling enumeration for a hexagon with three ferns removed, besides the middle fern located in the center as in Ciucu's region, we remove two additional ferns from two sides of the hexagon. Our result also implies a counterpart of MacMahon's classical formula of boxed plane partitions, corresponding the \emph{exterior} of the union of three disjoint concave polygons obtained by turning 120 degrees after drawing each side.
