Clustering of consecutive numbers in permutations avoiding a pattern and in separable permutations
Let $S_n$ denote the set of permutations of $[n]:=\{1,\cdots, n\}$, and denote a permutation $σ\in S_n$ by $σ=σ_1σ_2\cdots σ_n$. For $l\ge2$ an integer, let $A^{(n)}_{l;k}\subset S_n$ denote the event that the set of $l$ consecutive numbers $\{k, k+1,\cdots, k+l-1\}$ appears in a set of consecutive positions: $\{k,k+1,\cdots, k+l-1\}=\{σ_a,σ_{a+1},\cdots, σ_{a+l-1}\}$, for some $a$. For $τ\in S_m$, let $S_n(τ)$ denote the set of $τ$-avoiding permutations in $S_n$, and let $P_n^{\text{av}(τ)}$ denote the uniform probability measure on $S_n(τ)$. Also, let $S_n^{\text{sep}}$ denote the set of separable permutations in $S_n$, and let $P_n^{\text{sep}}$ denote the uniform probability measure on $S_n^{\text{sep}}$. We investigate the quantities $P_n^{\text{av}(τ)}(A^{(n)}_{l;k})$ and $P_n^{\text{sep}}(A^{(n)}_{l;k})$ for fixed $n$, and the limiting behavior as $n\to\infty$. We also consider the asymptotic properties of this limiting behavior as $l\to\infty$.

A set S of vertices of a graph G is a geodesic transversal of G if every maximal geodesic of G contains at least one vertex of S. We determine a smallest geodesic transversal in certain interconnection networks such as mesh of trees, and some well-known chemical structures such as silicate networks and carbon nanosheets. Some useful general bounds for the corresponding graph invariant are obtained along the way.

The so-called "einstein problem" (a pun playing with the famous scientist's name and the German term "ein Stein" for "one stone") asks for a simply connected prototile only allowing nonperiodic tilings without need of any matching rule. So far, researchers come only close to this demand by defining decorated prototiles forcing nonperiodicity of any generated tiling using matching rules. In this paper a class of spiral tilings (and one non-spiral example) is linked to a weaker form of the einstein problem where one or several seed tiles are used. Furthermore, the classical types of matching rules are listed and some new types are discussed.
About posets for which no lower cover or no upper cover has the fixed point property
For a finite non-empty set $X$, let $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ denote the set of all posets with carrier $X$, ordered by inclusion of their partial order relations. We investigate properties of posets $P \in \mathfrak{P}(X)$ for which no lower cover or no upper cover in $\mathfrak{P}(X)$ has the fixed point property. We derive two conditions, one of them sufficient for that no lower cover of $P$ has the fixed point property, the other one sufficient for that no upper cover of $P$ has the fixed point property. If $P$ itself has the fixed point property, the conditions are even equivalent to the respective total lack of lower or upper covers with the fixed point property. We use the results to confirm a conjecture of Schröder.
Positive integer solutions to $(x+y)^2+(y+z)^2+(z+x)^2=12xyz$
In this paper, we give a specific way of describing positive integer solutions of a Diophantine equation $(x+y)^2+(y+z)^2+(z+x)^2=12xyz$ and introduce a generalized cluster pattern behind it.
Tiling with monochromatic bipartite graphs of bounded maximum degree
We prove that for any $r\in \mathbb{N}$, there exists a constant $C_r$ such that the following is true. Let $\mathcal{F}=\{F_1,F_2,\dots\}$ be an infinite sequence of bipartite graphs such that $|V(F_i)|=i$ and $Δ(F_i)\leq Δ$ hold for all $i$. Then in any $r$-edge coloured complete graph $K_n$, there is a collection of at most $\exp(C_rΔ)$ monochromatic subgraphs, each of which is isomorphic to an element of $\mathcal{F}$, whose vertex sets partition $V(K_n)$. This proves a conjecture of Corsten and Mendonça in a strong form and generalizes results on the multicolour Ramsey numbers of bounded-degree bipartite graphs.

We compare two constructions of exact Lagrangian fillings of Legendrian positive braid closures, the Legendrian weaves of Casals-Zaslow, and the decomposable Lagrangian fillings, of Ekholm-Honda-Kálmán and show that they coincide for large families of Lagrangian fillings. As a corollary, we obtain an explicit correspondence between Hamiltonian isotopy classes of decomposable Lagrangian fillings of Legendrian $(2,n)$ torus links described by Ekholm-Honda-Kálmán and the weave fillings constructed by Treumann and Zaslow. We apply this result to describe the orbital structure of the Kálmán loop and give a combinatorial criteria to determine the orbit size of a filling. We follow our geometric discussion with a Floer-theoretic proof of the orbital structure, where an identity studied by Euler in the context of continued fractions makes a surprise appearance. We conclude by giving a purely combinatorial description of the Kálmán loop action on the fillings discussed above in terms of edge flips of triangulations.

We propose a quantization algebra of the Loday-Ronco Hopf algebra $k[Y^\infty]$, based on the Topological Recursion formula of Eynard and Orantin. We have shown in previous works that the Loday-Ronco Hopf algebra of planar binary trees is a space of solutions for the genus 0 version of Topological Recursion, and that an extension of the Loday Ronco Hopf algebra as to include some new graphs with loops is the correct setting to find a solution space for arbitrary genus. Here we show that this new algebra $k[Y^\infty]_h$ is still a Hopf algebra that can be seen in some sense to be made precise in the text as a quantization of the Hopf algebra of planar binary trees, and that the solution space of Topological Recursion $\mathcal{A}^h_{\text{TopRec}}$ is a subalgebra of a quotient algebra $\mathcal{A}_{\text{Reg}}^h$ obtained from $k[Y^\infty]_h$ that nevertheless doesn't inherit the Hopf algebra structure. We end the paper with a discussion on the cohomology of $\mathcal{A}^h_{\text{TopRec}}$ in low degree.
The least Euclidean distortion constant of a distance-regular graph
In 2008, Vallentin made a conjecture involving the least distortion of an embedding of a distance-regular graph into Euclidean space. Vallentin's conjecture implies that for a least distortion Euclidean embedding of a distance-regular graph of diameter $d$, the most contracted pairs of vertices are those at distance $d$. In this paper, we confirm Vallentin's conjecture for several families of distance-regular graphs. We also provide counterexamples to this conjecture, where the largest contraction occurs between pairs of vertices at distance $d{-}1$. We suggest three alternative conjectures and prove them for several families of distance-regular graphs.
A note on fully commutative elements in complex reflection groups

Fully commutative elements in types $B$ and $D$ are completely characterized and counted by Stembridge. Recently, Feinberg-Kim-Lee-Oh have extended the study of fully commutative elements from Coxeter groups to the complex setting, giving an enumeration of such elements in $G(m,1,n)$. In this note, we prove a connection between fully commutative elements in $B_n$ and in $G(m,1,n)$, which allows us to characterize fully commutative elements in $G(m,1,n )$ by pattern avoidance. Further, we present a counting formula for such elements in $G(m,1,n)$.

A Coxeter group is said to be \emph{$\mathbf{a}(2)$-finite} if it has finitely many elements of $\mathbf{a}$-value 2 in the sense of Lusztig. In this paper, we give explicit combinatorial descriptions of the left, right, and two-sided Kazhdan--Lusztig cells of $\mathbf{a}$-value 2 in an irreducible $\mathbf{a}(2)$-finite Coxeter group. In particular, we introduce elements we call \emph{stubs} to parameterize the one-sided cells and we characterize the one-sided cells via both star operations and weak Bruhat orders. We also compute the cardinalities of all the one-sided and two-sided cells.

We describe various path homology theories constructed for a directed hypergraph. We introduce the category of directed hypergraphs and the notion of a homotopy in this category. Also, we investigate the functoriality and the homotopy invariance of the introduced path homology groups. We provide examples of computation of these homology groups.
Coprime Mappings and Lonely Runners

For $x$ real, let $ \{ x \}$ be the fractional part of $x$ (i.e. $\{x\} = x - \lfloor x \rfloor $). The lonely runner conjecture can be stated as follows: for any $n$ positive integers $ v_1 < v_2 < \dots < v_n $ there exists a real number $t$ such that $ 1/(n+1) \le \{ v_i t\} \le n/(n+1) $ for $ i = 1, \dots, n$. In this paper we prove that if $ ε>0 $ and $n$ is sufficiently large (relative to $ε$) then such a $t$ exists for any collection of positive integers $ v_1 < v_2 < \dots < v_n$ such that $ v_n < (2-ε)n$. This is an approximate version of a natural next step for the study of the lonely runner conjecture suggested by Tao.
The key ingredient in our proof is a result on coprime mappings. Let $A$ and $B$ be sets of integers. A bijection $ f:A \to B$ is a coprime mapping if $ a $ and $f(a)$ are coprime for every $ a \in A$. We show that if $A,B \subset [n]$ are intervals of length $2m$ where $ m = e^{ Ω({(\log\log n)}^2)}$ then there exists a coprime mapping from $A$ to $B$. We do not believe that this result is sharp.

Moments of permutation statistics and central limit theorems

We show that if a permutation statistic can be written as a linear combination of bivincular patterns, then its moments can be expressed as a linear combination of factorials with constant coefficients. This generalizes a result of Zeilberger. We use an approach of Chern, Diaconis, Kane and Rhoades, previously applied on set partitions and matchings. In addition, we give a new proof of the central limit theorem (CLT) for the number of occurrences of classical patterns, which uses a lemma of Burstein and Hasto. We give a simple interpretation of this lemma and an analogous lemma that would imply the CLT for the number of occurrences of any vincular pattern. Furthermore, we obtain explicit formulas for the moments of the descents and the minimal descents statistics. The latter is used to give a new direct proof of the fact that we do not necessarily have asymptotic normality of the number of pattern occurrences in the case of bivincular patterns. Closed forms for some of the higher moments of several popular statistics on permutations are also obtained.

We give the facet description of the deformation cones of graph associahedra and nestohedra, generalizing the classical parametrization of the family of deformed permutahedra by the cone of submodular functions. When the underlying building set is made of intervals, this leads in particular to the construction of kinematic nestohedra generalizing the kinematic associahedra that recently appeared in the theory of scattering amplitudes.
Ramsey goodness of books revisited

The Ramsey number $r(G,H)$ is the minimum $N$ such that every graph on $N$ vertices contains $G$ as a subgraph or its complement contains $H$ as a subgraph. For integers $n \geq k \geq 1$, the $k$-book $B_{k,n}$ is the graph on $n$ vertices consisting of a copy of $K_k$, called the spine, as well as $n-k$ additional vertices each adjacent to every vertex of the spine and non-adjacent to each other. A connected graph $H$ on $n$ vertices is called $p$-good if $r(K_p,H)=(p-1)(n-1)+1$. Nikiforov and Rousseau proved that if $n$ is sufficiently large in terms of $p$ and $k$, then $B_{k,n}$ is $p$-good. Their proof uses Szemerédi's regularity lemma and gives a tower-type bound on $n$. We give a short new proof that avoids using the regularity method and shows that every $B_{k,n}$ with $n \geq 2^{k^{10p}}$ is $p$-good.
Using Szemerédi's regularity lemma, Nikiforov and Rousseau also proved much more general goodness-type results, proving a tight bound on $r(G,H)$ for several families of sparse graphs $G$ and $H$ as long as $|V(G)| < δ|V(H)|$ for a small constant $δ> 0$. Using our techniques, we prove a new result of this type, showing that $r(G,H) = (p-1)(n-1)+1$ when $H =B_{k,n}$ and $G$ is a complete $p$-partite graph whose first $p-1$ parts have constant size and whose last part has size $δn$, for some small constant $δ>0$. Again, our proof does not use the regularity method, and thus yields double-exponential bounds on $δ$.
On average hitting time and Kemeny's constant for weighted trees
For a connected graph $G$, the average hitting time $α(G)$ and the Kemeny's constant $κ(G)$ are two similar quantities, both measuring the time for the random walk on $G$ to travel between two randomly chosen vertices. We prove that, among all weighted trees whose edge-weights form a fixed multiset, $α$ is maximized by a special type of "polarized" paths and is minimized by a unique weighted star graph. We also give a short proof of the fact that, among all simple trees of a fixed size, $κ$ is maximized by the path and is minimized by the star graph. Our proofs are based on the forest formulas for the average hitting time and the Kemeny's constant.
