A Tropical Count of Binodal Cubic Surfaces
There are 280 binodal cubic surfaces passing through 17 general points. For the typically used tropical point conditions, we show that 214 of these give tropicalizations such that the nodes are separated on the tropical cubic surface.

In the special case of braid fans, we give a combinatorial formula for the Berline-Vergne's construction for an Euler-Maclaurin type formula that computes number of lattice points in polytopes. Our formula is obtained by computing a symmetric expression for the Todd class of the permutohedral variety. By showing that this formula does not always have positive values, we prove that the Todd class of the permutohedral variety $X_d$ is not effective for $d\geq 24$.
Additionally, we prove that the linear coefficient in the Ehrhart polynomial of any lattice generalized permutohedron is positive.

For every $n\in\mathbb{N}$ and $k\geq2$, it is known that every $k$-edge-colouring of the complete graph on $n$ vertices contains a monochromatic connected component of order at least $\frac{n}{k-1}$. For $k\geq3$, it is known that the complete graph can be replaced by a graph $G$ with $δ(G)\geq(1-\varepsilon_k)n$ for some constant $\varepsilon_k$. In this paper, we show that the maximum possible value of $\varepsilon_3$ is $\frac16$. This disproves a conjecture of Gyárfas and Sárközy.

Given a finite group $G$, the character graph, denoted by $Δ(G)$, for its irreducible character degrees is a graph with vertex set $ρ(G)$ which is the set of prime numbers that divide the irreducible character degrees of $G$, and with $\{p,q\}$ being an edge if there exist a non-linear $χ\in {\rm Irr}(G)$ whose degree is divisible by $pq$. In this paper, we discuss the influences of cut vertices and eigenvalues of $Δ(G)$ on the group structure of $G$. Recently, Lewis and Meng proved the character graph of each solvable group has at most one cut vertex. Now, we determine the structure of character graphs of solvable groups with a cut vertex and diameter $3$. Furthermore, we study solvable groups whose character graphs have at most two distinct eigenvalues. Moreover, we investigate the solvable groups whose character graphs are regular with three distinct eigenvalues. In addition, we give some lower bounds for the number of edges of $Δ(G)$.

Very recently, Tu et al. presented a sufficient condition about $(a_1,a_2,a_3)$, see Theorem 1.1, such that $f(x) = x^{3\cdot 2^m} + a_1 x^{2^{m+1}+1}+ a_2 x^{2^m+2} + a_3 x^3$ is a class of permutation polynomials over $\gf_{2^{n}}$ with $n=2m$ and $m$ odd. In this present paper, we prove that the sufficient condition is also necessary.

For a nondecreasing sequence of integers $S=(s_1, s_2, \ldots)$ an $S$-packing $k$-coloring of a graph $G$ is a mapping from $V(G)$ to $\{1, 2,\ldots,k\}$ such that vertices with color $i$ have pairwise distance greater than $s_i$. By setting $s_i = d + \lfloor \frac{i-1}{n} \rfloor$ we obtain a $(d,n)$-packing coloring of a graph $G$. The smallest integer $k$ for which there exists a $(d,n)$-packing coloring of $G$ is called the $(d,n)$-packing chromatic number of $G$. In the special case when $d$ and $n$ are both equal to one we speak of the packing chromatic number of $G$. We determine the packing chromatic number of the base-3 Sierpiński graphs $S_k$ and provide new results on $(d,n)$-packing chromatic colorings, $d \le 2$, for this class of graphs. By using a dynamic algorithm, we establish the packing chromatic number for $H$-graphs $H(r)$.

A dicut in a directed graph is a cut for which all of its edges are directed to a common side of the cut. A famous theorem of Lucchesi and Younger states that in every finite digraph the least size of an edge set meeting every dicut equals the maximum number of disjoint dicuts in that digraph.
In this first paper out of a series of two papers, we conjecture a version of this theorem using a more structural description of this min-max property for finite dicuts in infinite digraphs. We show that this conjecture can be reduced to countable digraphs where the underlying undirected graph is $2$-connected, and we prove several special cases of the conjecture.

We characterize all signed Minkowski sums that define generalized permutahedra, extending results of Ardila-Benedetti-Doker (2010). We use this characterization to give a complete classification of all positive, translation-invariant, symmetric Minkowski linear functionals on generalized permutahedra. We show that they form a simplicial cone and explicitly describe their generators. We apply our results to prove that the linear coefficients of Ehrhart polynomials of generalized permutahedra, which include matroid polytopes, are non-negative, verifying conjectures of De Loera-Haws-Koeppe (2009) and Castillo-Liu (2018) in this case. We also apply this technique to give an example of a solid-angle polynomial of a generalized permutahedron that has negative linear term and obtain inequalities for beta invariants of contractions of matroids.
A sharper Ramsey theorem for constrained drawings
Given a graph $G$ and a collection $\mathcal C$ of subsets of $\mathbb{R}^d$ indexed by the subsets of vertices of $G$, a constrained drawing of $G$ is a drawing, where each edge is drawn inside some set from $\mathcal C$, in such a way that non-adjacent edges are drawn in sets with disjoint indices. In this paper we prove a Ramsey type result for such drawings. Furthermore we show how the result can be used to obtain Helly type theorems.
More precisely, we prove the following. For each $n$ and $b$, there is $N=O(b^{2n-3})$ with the following properties: If $G$ is a drawing of a graph on $N$ vertices and $\mathcal C$ is a collection of sets of $\mathbb{R}^d$ such that each $(b+1)$-tuple $T$ of vertices lies in a set indexed by $T$ and contains at least one edge in $T$, then in $G$, we can find a constrained copy of the complete graph $K_n$.
As a direct consequence we obtain the following Helly type result: For each $d$, there is a polynomial $h(b)$ of degree at most $2d+3$ such that the following holds. For every family $\mathcal F$ of sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$, its Helly number is at most $h(b)$, provided that the intersection of any non-empty subfamily has at most $b$ path-connected components, and trivial homology groups $H_1$, $H_2$, .... $H_{\lceil d/2\rceil-1}$. This dramatically improves the original theorem by Matoušek which had stronger assumption and a tower-like bound on $h(b)$. Under the same assumptions, our technique can also be used to bound Radon numbers.
Near Coverings and Cosystolic Expansion -- an example of topological property testing

We study the stability of covers of simplicial complexes. Given a map $f:Y\to X$ that satisfies almost all of the local conditions of being a cover, is it close to being a genuine cover of $X$? Complexes $X$ for which this holds are called cover-stable. We show that this is equivalent to $X$ being a cosystolic expander with respect to non-abelian coefficients. This gives a new combinatorial-topological interpretation to cosystolic expansion which is a well studied notion of high dimensional expansion. As an example, we show that the $2$-dimensional spherical building $A_{3}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ is cover-stable. We view this work as a possibly first example of "topological property testing", where one is interested in studying stability of a topological notion that is naturally defined by local conditions.
Regular matroids have polynomial extension complexity

We prove that the extension complexity of the independence polytope of every regular matroid on $n$ elements is $O(n^6)$. Past results of Wong and Martin on extended formulations of the spanning tree polytope of a graph imply a $O(n^2)$ bound for the special case of (co)graphic matroids. However, the case of a general regular matroid was open, despite recent attempts. We also consider the extension complexity of circuit dominants of regular matroids, for which we give a $O(n^2)$ bound.
From Farey fractions to the Klein quartic and beyond

In his 1878/79 paper "Ueber die transformation siebenter ordnung der elliptischen functionen", Klein produced his famous 14-sided polygon representing the Klein quartic, his Riemann surface of genus 3 which has PSL(2,7) as its automorphism group. The construction and method of side pairings are fairly complicated. By considering the Farey map modulo 7 we show how to obtain a fundamental polygon for Klein's surface using arithmetic. Now the side pairings are immediate and essentially the same as in Klein's paper. We also extend this idea from 7 to 11 as Klein attempted to do in his follow up paper "Ueber die transformation elfter ordnung der elliptischen functionen", in 1879.
Dynamical systems on chain complexes and canonical minimal resolutions
We introduce notions of vector field and its (discrete time) flow on a chain complex. The resulting dynamical systems theory provides a set of tools with a broad range of applicability that allow, among others, to replace in a canonical way a chain complex with a "smaller" one of the same homotopy type. As applications we construct in an explicit, canonical, and symmetry-preserving fashion a minimal free resolution for every toric ring and every monomial ideal. Our constructions work in all characteristics and over any base field. A key subtle new point is that in certain finitely many positive characteristics (which depend on the object that is being resolved) a transcendental extension of the base field is produced before a resolution is obtained, while in all other characteristics the base field is kept unchanged. In the monomial case we show that such a transcendental base field extension cannot in general be avoided, and we conjecture that the same holds in the toric case.

A subposet $Q'$ of a poset $Q$ is a \textit{copy of a poset} $P$ if there is a bijection $f$ between elements of $P$ and $Q'$ such that $x \le y$ in $P$ iff $f(x) \le f(y)$ in $Q'$. For posets $P, P'$, let the \textit{poset Ramsey number} $R(P,P')$ be the smallest $N$ such that no matter how the elements of the Boolean lattice $Q_N$ are colored red and blue, there is a copy of $P$ with all red elements or a copy of $P'$ with all blue elements. Axenovich and Walzer introduced this concept in \textit{Order} (2017), where they proved $R(Q_2, Q_n) \le 2n + 2$ and $R(Q_n, Q_m) \le mn + n + m$, where $Q_n$ is the Boolean lattice of dimension $n$. They later proved $2n \le R(Q_n, Q_n) \le n^2 + 2n$. Walzer later proved $R(Q_n, Q_n) \le n^2 + 1$. We provide some improved bounds for $R(Q_n, Q_m)$ for various $n,m \in \mathbb{N}$. In particular, we prove that $R(Q_n, Q_n) \le n^2 - n + 2$, $R(Q_2, Q_n) \le \frac{5}{3}n + 2$, and $R(Q_3, Q_n) \le \frac{37}{16}n + \frac{39}{16}$. We also prove that $R(Q_2,Q_3) = 5$, and $R(Q_m, Q_n) \le (m - 2 + \frac{9m - 9}{(2m - 3)(m + 1)})n + m + 3$ for all $n \ge m \ge 4$.

We study a process of generating random positive integer weight sequences $\{ W_n \}$ where the gaps between the weights $\{ X_n = W_n - W_{n-1} \}$ are i.i.d. positive integer-valued random variables. We show that as long as the gap distribution has finite $\frac{1}{2}$-moment, almost surely, the resulting weight sequence is asymptotically complete, i.e., all large enough multiples of the gcd of the possible gap values can be written as a sum of distinct weights. We then show a much stronger result that if the gap distribution has a moment generating function with large enough radius of convergence, then every large enough multiple of the gcd of gap values can be written as a sum of $m$ distinct weights for any fixed $m \geq 2$.
A characterization of 2-neighborhood degree list of diameter 2 graphs
Let $N_2DL(v)$ denote the set of degrees of vertices at distance 2 from $v$. The $2$-neighborhood degree list of a graph is a listing of $N_2DL(v)$ for every vertex $v$. A degree restricted $2$-switch on edges $v_1v_2$ and $w_1w_2$, where $deg(v_1)=deg(w_1)$ and $deg(v_2)=deg(w_2)$, is the replacement of a pair of edges $v_1v_2$ and $w_1w_2$ by the edges $v_1w_2$ and $v_2w_1$ given that $v_1w_2$ and $v_2w_1$ did not appear in the graph originally. Let $G$ and $H$ be two graphs of diameter 2 on the same vertex set. We prove that $G$ and $H$ have the same $2$-neighborhood degree list if and only if $G$ can be transformed into $H$ by a sequence of degree restricted $2$-switches.
Constructing Infinite Sets of Orthogonal Exponentials for Convex Polytopes
The aim of this article is to show the existence, and also give an explicit construction, of infinite sets of orthogonal exponentials for certain families of convex polytopes which include simple-rational polytopes and also non simple polytopes which satisfy other nontrivial conditions. We also show that by considering weight functions one can construct infinite sets of orthogonal exponentials with a positive density by considering orthogonal projections of affine transformations of hypercubes (i.e., zonotopes).

A complex unit gain graph (or $\mathbb{T}$-gain graph) is a triple $Φ=(G, \mathbb{T}, \varphi)$ ($(G, \varphi)$ for short) consisting of a graph $G$ as the underlying graph of $(G, \varphi)$, $\mathbb{T}= \{ z \in C:|z|=1 \} $ is a subgroup of the multiplicative group of all nonzero complex numbers $\mathbb{C}^{\times}$ and a gain function $\varphi: \overrightarrow{E} \rightarrow \mathbb{T}$ such that $\varphi(e_{ij})=\varphi(e_{ji})^{-1}=\overline{\varphi(e_{ji})}$. In this paper, we investigate the relation among the rank, the independence number and the cyclomatic number of a complex unit gain graph $(G, \varphi)$ with order $n$, and prove that $2n-2c(G) \leq r(G, \varphi)+2α(G) \leq 2n$. Where $r(G, \varphi)$, $α(G)$ and $c(G)$ are the rank of the Hermitian adjacency matrix $A(G, \varphi)$, the independence number and the cyclomatic number of $G$, respectively. Furthermore, the properties of the complex unit gain graph that reaching the lower bound are characterized.

A complex unit gain graph (or ${\mathbb T}$-gain graph) is a triple $Φ=(G, {\mathbb T}, \varphi)$ (or $(G, \varphi)$ for short) consisting of a simple graph $G$, as the underlying graph of $(G, \varphi)$, the set of unit complex numbers $\mathbb{T}= \{ z \in C:|z|=1 \}$ and a gain function $\varphi: \overrightarrow{E} \rightarrow \mathbb{T}$ with the property that $\varphi(e_{i,j})=\varphi(e_{j,i})^{-1}$. In this paper, we prove that $2m(G)-2c(G) \leq r(G, \varphi) \leq 2m(G)+c(G)$, where $r(G, \varphi)$, $m(G)$ and $c(G)$ are the rank of the Hermitian adjacency matrix $H(G, \varphi)$, the matching number and the cyclomatic number of $G$, respectively. Furthermore, the complex unit gain graphs $(G, \mathbb{T}, \varphi)$ with $r(G, \varphi)=2m(G)-2c(G)$ and $r(G, \varphi)=2m(G)+c(G)$ are characterized. These results generalize the corresponding known results about undirected graphs, mixed graphs and signed graphs. Moreover, we show that $2m(G-V_{0}) \leq r(G, \varphi) \leq 2m(G)+b(G)$ holds for any subset $V_0$ of $V(G)$ such that $G-V_0$ is acyclic and $b(G)$ is the minimum integer $|S|$ such that $G-S$ is bipartite for $S \subset V(G)$.
