New mechanism for repeated posted price auction with a strategic buyer without discounting
On ad exchange platforms the place for advertisement is sold through different kinds of auctions. However, it is not uncommon the situation where the seller repeatedly encounters only one buyer, thus the posted price auction degenerates into a monopoly-monopsony game with asymmetric information and nearly an infinite number of rounds; on each round the seller proposes the price and the buyer accepts or rejects it.
I learned this problem from a discussion with members of Yandex research team and my main motivation was to find an incentive-compatible seller's strategy. In this short paper such a strategy is proposed and a corresponding distortion at the top type lower bound (Spence-Mirrlees property, actually) for the surplus of the buyer is established; this shows that the proposed strategy is the best possible.
The key ingredients are the following. The main leash that the buyer has is the frequency of accepted deals. Once this frequency (as a function on the buyer's type) is fixed, the strategy randomly chooses between the {\it rewarding} price which incentivises the buyer to reveal his type (the higher the type, the more average surplus the buyer has), the {\it adaptation} price which allows the buyer to communicate that his type is higher then the current guess of the cook, and the {\it type confirmation} price which disincentivises the buyer to pretend that his type is higher than it is.
A study on prefixes of $c_2$ invariants

This document begins by reviewing recent progress that has been made by taking a combinatorial perspective on the $c_2$ invariant, an arithmetic graph invariant with connections to Feynman integrals. Then it proceeds to report on some recent calculations of $c_2$ invariants for two families of circulant graphs at small primes. These calculations support the idea that all possible finite sequences appear as initial segments of $c_2$ invariants, in contrast to their apparent sparsity on small graphs.
On the sizes of $(k,l)$-edge-maximal $r$-uniform hypergraphs
Let $H=(V,E)$ be a hypergraph, where $V$ is a set of vertices and $E$ is a set of non-empty subsets of $V$ called edges. If all edges of $H$ have the same cardinality $r$, then $H$ is a $r$-uniform hypergraph; if $E$ consists of all $r$-subsets of $V$, then $H$ is a complete $r$-uniform hypergraph, denoted by $K_n^r$, where $n=|V|$. A $r$-uniform hypergraph $H=(V,E)$ is $(k,l)$-edge-maximal if every subhypergraph $H'$ of $H$ with $|V(H')|\geq l$ has edge-connectivity at most $k$, but for any edge $e\in E(K_n^r)\setminus E(H)$, $H+e$ contains at least one subhypergraph $H''$ with $|V(H'')|\geq l$ and edge-connectivity at least $k+1$. In this paper, we obtain the lower bounds and the upper bounds of the sizes of $(k,l)$-edge-maximal hypergraphs. Furthermore, we show that these bounds are best possible. Thus prior results in [Y.Z. Tian, L.Q. Xu, H.-J. Lai, J.X. Meng, On the sizes of $k$-edge-maximal $r$-uniform hypergraphs, arXiv:1802.08843v3] are extended.

Set partitions closed under certain operations form a tensor category. They give rise to certain subgroups of the free orthogonal quantum group $O_n^+$, the so called easy quantum groups, introduced by Banica and Speicher in 2009. This correspondence was generalized to two-colored set partitions, which, in addition, assign a black or white color to each point of a set. Globally colorized categories of partitions are those categories that are invariant with respect to arbitrary permutations of colors. This article presents a classification of globally colorized categories. In addition, we show that the corresponding unitary quantum groups can be constructed from the orthogonal ones using tensor complexification.

A partial matrix over a field $\mathbb{F}$ is a matrix whose entries are either an element of $\mathbb{F}$ or an indeterminate and with each indeterminate only appearing once. A completion is an assignment of values in $\mathbb{F}$ to all indeterminates. Given a partial matrix, through elementary row operations and column permutation it can be decomposed into a block matrix of the form $\left[\begin{smallmatrix}{\bf W} & * & * \\ 0 & {\bf S} & * \\ 0 & 0 & {\bf T} \end{smallmatrix}\right]$ where ${\bf W}$ is wide (has more columns than rows), ${\bf S}$ is square, ${\bf T}$ is tall (has more rows than columns), and these three blocks have at least one completion with full rank. And importantly, each one of the blocks ${\bf W}$, ${\bf S}$ and ${\bf T}$ is unique up to elementary row operations and column permutation whenever ${\bf S}$ is required to be as large as possible. When this is the case $\left[\begin{smallmatrix}{\bf W} & * & * \\ 0 & {\bf S} & * \\ 0 & 0 & {\bf T} \end{smallmatrix}\right]$ will be called a WST-decomposition. With this decomposition it is trivial to compute maximum rank of a completion of the original partial matrix: $\#\mbox{rows}({\bf W})+\#\mbox{rows}({\bf S})+\#\mbox{cols}({\bf T})$. In fact we introduce the WST-decomposition for a broader class of matrices: the ACI-matrices.

Let $F_{p,q}$ be the generalized friendship graph $K_1\bigvee (pK_q)$ on $pq+1$ vertices obtained by joining a vertex to all vertices of $p$ disjoint copies of the complete graph $K_q$ on $q$ vertices. In this paper, we prove that $F_{p,q}$ is determined by its normalized Laplacian spectrum if and only if $q\ge 2$, or $q=1$ and $p\le 2$.

Akbari and Alipour conjectured that any Latin array of order $n$ with at least $n^2/2$ symbols contains a transversal. We confirm this conjecture for large $n$, and moreover, we show that $n^{399/200}$ symbols suffice.

We study the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the vanishing ideal over a bipartite graph endowed with a decomposition of its edge set. We prove that, under certain conditions, the regularity of the vanishing ideal over a bipartite graph obtained from a graph by attaching a path of length $\ell$ increases by $\lfloor \frac{\ell}{2}\rfloor (q-2)$, where $q$ is the order of the field of coefficients. We use this result to show that the regularity of the vanishing ideal over a bipartite graph, $G$, endowed with a weak nested ear decomposition is equal to $$\textstyle \frac{|V_G|+ ε-3}{2}(q-2),$$ where $ε$ is the number of even length ears and pendant edges of the decomposition. As a corollary, we show that for bipartite graph, the number of even length ears in a nested ear decomposition starting from a vertex is constant.

It is known that cyclic arrangements are the only {\em unavoidable} simple arrangements of pseudolines: for each fixed $m\ge 1$, every sufficiently large simple arrangement of pseudolines has a cyclic subarrangement of size $m$. In the same spirit, we show that there are three unavoidable arrangements of pseudocircles.
The de Bruijn-Erdős theorem from a Hausdorff measure point of view
Motivated by a well-known result in extremal set theory, due to Nicolaas Govert de Bruijn and Paul Erdős, we consider curves in the unit $n$-cube $[0,1]^n$ of the form \[ A=\{(x,f_1(x),\ldots,f_{n-2}(x),α): x\in [0,1]\}, \] where $α$ is a fixed real number in $[0,1]$ and $f_1,\ldots,f_{n-2}$ are injective measurable functions from $[0,1]$ to $[0,1]$. We refer to such a curve $A$ as an $n$-\emph{de~Bruijn-Erdős-set}. Under the additional assumption that all functions $f_i,i=1,\ldots,n-2,$ are piecewise monotone, we show that the Hausdorff dimension of $A$ is at most $1$ as well as that its $1$-dimensional Hausdorff measure is at most $n-1$. Moreover, via a walk along devil's staircases, we construct a piecewise monotone $n$-de~Bruijn-Erdős-set whose $1$-dimensional Hausdorff measure equals $n-1$.
Power domination polynomials of graphs
A power dominating set of a graph is a set of vertices that observes every vertex in the graph by combining classical domination with an iterative propagation process arising from electrical circuit theory. In this paper, we study the power domination polynomial of a graph $G$ of order $n$, defined as $\mathcal{P}(G;x)=\sum_{i=1}^n p(G;i) x^i$, where $p(G;i)$ is the number of power dominating sets of $G$ of size $i$. We relate the power domination polynomial to other graph polynomials, present structural and extremal results about its roots and coefficients, and identify some graph parameters it contains. We also derive decomposition formulas for the power domination polynomial, compute it explicitly for several families of graphs, and explore graphs which can be uniquely identified by their power domination polynomials.

The Legendre-Stirling numbers of the second kind were introduced by Everitt et al. in the spectral theory of powers of the Legendre differential expressions. In this paper, we provide a combinatorial code for Legendre-Stirling set partitions. As an application, we obtain combinatorial expansions of the Legendre-Stirling numbers of both kinds. Moreover, we present grammatical descriptions of the Jacobi-Stirling numbers of both kinds.
A short proof of Brooks' theorem
We give a simple short proof of Brooks' theorem using only induction and greedy coloring, while avoiding issues of graph connectivity. The argument generalizes easily to some extensions of Brooks' theorem, including its variants for list coloring, signed graphs coloring and correspondence coloring.

We solve multiple conjectures by Byszewski and Ulas about the sum of base $b$ digits function. In order to do this, we develop general results about summations over the sum of digits function. As a corollary, we describe an unexpected new result about the Prouhet-Tarry-Escott problem. In some cases, this allows us to partition fewer than $b^N$ values into $b$ sets $\{S_1,\ldots,S_b\}$, such that $$\sum_{s\in S_1}s^k = \sum_{s\in S_2}s^k = \cdots = \sum_{s\in S_b}s^k $$ for $0\leq k \leq N-1$. The classical construction can only partition $b^N$ values such that the first $N$ powers agree. Our results are amenable to a computational search, which may discover new, smaller, solutions to this classical problem.
Erdős-Lovász Tihany Conjecture for graphs with forbidden holes

A hole in a graph is an induced cycle of length at least $4$. Let $s\ge2$ and $t\ge2$ be integers. A graph $G$ is $(s,t)$-splittable if $V(G)$ can be partitioned into two sets $S$ and $T$ such that $χ(G[S ]) \ge s$ and $χ(G[T ]) \ge t$. The well-known Erdős-Lovász Tihany Conjecture from 1968 states that every graph $G$ with $ω(G) < χ(G) = s + t - 1$ is $(s,t)$-splittable. This conjecture is hard, and few related results are known. However, it has been verified to be true for line graphs, quasi-line graphs, and graphs with independence number $2$. In this paper, we establish more evidence for the Erdős-Lovász Tihany Conjecture by showing that every graph $G$ with $α(G)\ge3$, $ω(G) < χ(G) = s + t - 1$, and no hole of length between $4$ and $2α(G)-1$ is $(s,t)$-splittable, where $α(G)$ denotes the independence number of a graph $G$.
Palindromes in starlike trees
In this note, we obtain an upper bound on the maximum number of distinct non-empty palindromes in starlike trees. This bound implies, in particular, that there are at most $4n$ distinct non-empty palindromes in a starlike tree with three branches each of length $n$. For such starlike trees labelled with a binary alphabet, we sharpen the upper bound to $4n-1$ and conjecture that the actual maximum is $4n-2$. It is intriguing that this simple conjecture seems difficult to prove, in contrast to the straightforward proof of the bound.

We study an urn process with two urns, initialized with a ball each. Balls are added sequentially, the urn being chosen independently with probability proportional to the $α^{th}$ power $(α>1)$ of the existing number of balls. We study the (rare) event that the urn compositions are balanced after the addition of $2n-2$ new balls. We derive precise asymptotics of the probability of this event by embedding the process in continuous time. Quite surprisingly, a fine control on this probability may be leveraged to derive a lower tail Large Deviation Principle (LDP) for $L = \sum_{i=1}^{n} \frac{S_i^2}{i^2}$, where $\{S_n : n \geq 0\}$ is a simple symmetric random walk started at zero. We provide an alternate proof of the LDP via coupling to Brownian motion, and subsequent derivation of the LDP for a continuous time analogue of $L$. Finally, we turn our attention back to the urn process conditioned to be balanced, and provide a functional limit law describing the trajectory of the urn process.

We study the existence of powers of Hamiltonian cycles in graphs with large minimum degree to which some additional edges have been added in a random manner. It follows from the theorems of Dirac and of Komlós, Sarközy, and Szemerédi that for every $k\geq 1$ and sufficiently large $n$ already the minimum degree $δ(G)\ge\tfrac{k}{k+1}n$ for an $n$-vertex graph $G$ alone suffices to ensure the existence of a $k$-th power of a Hamiltonian cycle. Here we show that under essentially the same degree assumption the addition of just $O(n)$ random edges ensures the presence of the $(k+1)$-st power of a Hamiltonian cycle with probability close to one.
A generating polynomial for the pretzel knot

The GraftalLace Cellular Automaton
We introduce our GraftalLace Cellular Automaton in short GLCA which is a new one-dimensional cellular automaton on the regular square lattice. It makes a monochromatic infinite directed graph otherwise an octal number triangle or number trapezoid by partly influences the states of the neighbour cells with bit operations. We show new ways to make symmetric fractals like Sierpinski triangle and Pascal triangle modulo 3 and unknown complex patterns. We find reversible rules and show possibilities to represent and extend our automaton in different ways. 2D version of GLCA can be represented as a 3D digraph or a 2D animated tessellation which could be a closer relative of Conway's Game of Life.
