Neighborly Murai spheres and the Simplicial Steinitz Problem
We provide a classification of neighborly Murai spheres, which implies that all of them are polytopal. Furthermore, we show that each neighborly $d$-sphere with no more than $d+4$ vertices is combinatorially equivalent to a Murai sphere for any $d\geq 1$.

Characteristic numbers of canonical toric manifolds and their applications
We compute all the Chern, Milnor and Pontryagin numbers for canonical toric manifolds associated with abstract simplicial complexes and the Stiefel-Whitney numbers for their real counterparts. Applications include combinatorial characterizations of the unitary, oriented and unoriented bordism classes, new geometrical representatives of the unitary bordism ring generators, a combinatorial criterion for a canonical toric manifold to bound, as well as the dimension estimates for their immersions into euclidean spaces.

On the combinatorics of Murai spheres and its applications
We classify the combinatorial types of Murai spheres in dimensions $1$ and $2$, thereby showing that the corresponding convex simple polytopes have Delzant realizations. Then we describe all chordal Murai spheres $\mathrm{Bier}_c(M)$ with $c\in\mathbb N^m$ and $m\leq 2$. Finally, we find all possible values for the Buchstaber and chromatic numbers of arbitrary Murai spheres.
On a class of toric manifolds arising from simplicial complexes
Given an arbitrary abstract simplicial complex $K$ on $[m]:=\{1,2,\ldots,m\}$, different from the simplex $Δ_{[m]}$ with $m$ vertices, we introduce and study a canonical $(2m-2)$-dimensional toric manifold $X_K$, associated to the canonical $(m-1)$-dimensional complete regular fan $Σ_K$. This construction yields an infinite family of toric manifolds that are not quasitoric and provides a topological proof of the Dehn-Sommerville relations for the associated Bier sphere $\mathrm{Bier}(K)$. Finally, we prove a criterion for orientability of canonical real toric manifolds.

Chromatic numbers, Buchstaber numbers and chordality of Bier spheres
We describe all the Bier spheres of dimension $d$ with chromatic number equal to $d+1$ and prove that all other $d$-dimensional Bier spheres have chromatic number equal to $d+2$, for any integer $d\geq 0$. Then we prove a general formula for complex and mod $p$ Buchstaber numbers of a Bier sphere $\mathrm{Bier}(K)$, for each prime $p\in\mathbb N$ in terms of the $f$-vector of the underlying simplicial complex $K$. Finally, we classify all chordal Bier spheres and obtain their canonical realizations as boundaries of stacked polytopes.

Simplicial vs. cubical spheres, polyhedral products and the Nevo-Petersen conjecture
We prove that a Murai sphere is flag if and only if it is a nerve complex of a flag nestohedron and classify all the polytopes arising in this way. Our classification implies that flag Murai spheres satisfy the Nevo-Petersen conjecture on $γ$-vectors of flag homology spheres. We continue by showing that a Bier sphere is minimally non-Golod if and only if it is a nerve complex of a truncation polytope different from a simplex and classify all the polytopes arising in this way. Finally, the notion of a cubical Bier sphere is introduced based on the polyhedral product construction, and we study combinatorial and geometrical properties of these cubical complexes.

Bier spheres and toric topology
Published in Proc. Steklov Inst. Math., 326 (2024), 252-268 • Search Publication
We compute the real and complex Buchstaber numbers of an arbitrary Bier sphere. In dimension two, we identify all the 13 different combinatorial types of Bier spheres and show that 12 of them are nerve complexes of nestohedra, while the remaining one is a nerve complex of a generalized permutohedron. As an application of our results, we construct a regular normal fan for each of those 13 Delzant polytopes, compute the cohomology rings of the corresponding nonsingular projective toric varieties, and examine the orientability of the corresponding small covers.
A stability theorem for bigraded persistence barcodes
We define bigraded persistent homology modules and bigraded barcodes of a finite pseudo-metric space X using the ordinary and double homology of the moment-angle complex associated with the Vietoris-Rips filtration of X. We prove a stability theorem for the bigraded persistent double homology modules and barcodes.
Generalized virtual polytopes and quasitoric manifolds

In this paper we develop a theory of volume polynomials of generalized virtual polytopes based on the study of topology of affine subspace arrangements in a real Euclidean space. We apply this theory to obtain a topological version of the BKK Theorem, the Stanley-Reisner and Pukhlikov-Khovanskii type descriptions for cohomology rings of generalized quasitoric manifolds.

On the homotopy decomposition for the quotient of a moment-angle complex and its applications
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we prove that the quotient of any real or complex moment-angle complex by any closed subgroup in the naturally acting compact torus on it is equivariantly homotopy equivalent to the homotopy colimit of a certain toric diagram. For any quotient we prove an equivariant homeomorphism generalizing the well-known Davis-Januszkiewicz construction for quasitoric manifolds and small covers. We deduce formality of the corresponding Borel construction space under the natural assumption on the group action in the complex case leading to the new description of the equivariant cohomology for the quotients by any coordinate subgroups. We prove the weak Toral Rank Conjecture for any partial quotient by the diagonal circle action. We give an explicit construction of partial quotients by circle actions having arbitrary torsion in integral cohomology.

Minimally non-Golod face rings and Massey products
Published in Uspekhi Mat. Nauk 77 (2022), no. 4, 203-204 • View PublicationBIB
We give a correct statement and a complete proof of the criterion obtained by Grbić, Panov, Theriault and Wu for the face ring $\Bbbk[K]$ of a simplicial complex $K$ to be Golod over a field $\Bbbk$. (The original argument depended on the main result of a paper by Berglund and Jöllenbeck, which was shown to be false by Katthän.) We also construct an example of a minimally non-Golod complex $K$ such that the cohomology of the corresponding moment-angle complex $\mathcal Z_K$ has trivial cup product and a non-trivial triple Massey product.
Cohomology rings of quasitoric bundles

The classical BKK theorem computes the intersection number of divisors on toric variety in terms of volumes of corresponding polytopes. It was observed by Pukhlikov and the first author that the BKK theorem leads to a presentation of the cohomology ring of toric variety as a quotient of the ring of differential operators with constant coefficients by the annihilator of an explicit polynomial. In this paper we generalize this construction to the case of quasitoric bundles. These are fiber bundles with generalized quasitoric manifolds as fibers. First we obtain a generalization of the BKK theorem to this case. Then we use recently obtained descriptions of the graded-commutative algebras which satisfy Poincaré duality to give a description of cohomology rings of quasitoric bundles.
Double cohomology of moment-angle complexes
Published in Advances in Math. 432 (2023), Paper no. 109274, 34 pp • View PublicationBIB
We put a cochain complex structure ${CH}^*(\mathcal Z_K)$ on the cohomology of a moment-angle complex $\mathcal Z_K$ and call the resulting cohomology the double cohomology, ${HH}^*(\mathcal Z_K)$. We give three equivalent definitions for the differential, and compute ${HH}^*(\mathcal Z_K)$ for a family of simplicial complexes containing clique complexes of chordal graphs.

Massey products, toric topology and combinatorics of polytopes
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper we introduce a direct family of simple polytopes $P^{0}\subset P^{1}\subset\ldots$ such that for any $k$, $2\leq k\leq n$ there are non-trivial strictly defined Massey products of order $k$ in the cohomology rings of their moment-angle manifolds $\mathcal Z_{P^n}$. We prove that the direct sequence of manifolds $\ast\subset S^{3}\hookrightarrow\ldots\hookrightarrow\mathcal Z_{P^n}\hookrightarrow\mathcal Z_{P^{n+1}}\hookrightarrow\ldots$ has the following properties: every manifold $\mathcal Z_{P^n}$ is a retract of $\mathcal Z_{P^{n+1}}$, and one has inverse sequences in cohomology (over $n$ and $k$, where $k\to\infty$ as $n\to\infty$) of the Massey products constructed. As an application we get that there are non-trivial differentials $d_k$, for arbitrarily large $k$ as $n\to\infty$ in the Eilenberg--Moore spectral sequence connecting the rings $H^*(ΩX)$ and $H^*(X)$ with coefficients in a field, where $X=\mathcal Z_{P^n}$.

Direct families of polytopes with nontrivial Massey products
The problem of existence of nontrivial Massey products in cohomology of a space is well-known in algebraic topology and homological algebra. A number of problems in complex geometry, symplectic geometry, and algebraic topology can be stated in terms of Massey products. One of such problems is to establish formality of smooth manifolds in rational homotopy theory. There have already been constructed a few classes of spaces with nontrivial triple Massey products in cohomology. Until now, very few examples of manifolds $M$ with nontrivial higher Massey products in $H^*(M)$ were known. In this work we introduce a sequence of smooth closed manifolds $\{M_{k}\}^{\infty}_{k=1}$ such that $M_{k}\hookrightarrow M_{k+1}$ is a submanifold and a retract of $M_{k+1}$ for any $k\geq 1$ and there exists a nontrivial Massey product $\langleα_{1},\ldots,α_{n}\rangle$ in $H^*(M_{k})$ for each $2\leq n\leq k$. The sequence $\{M_k\}^{\infty}_{k=1}$ is determined by a new family of flag nestohedra $\mathcal P_{Mas}$. We give P.D.E. for the two-parametric generating series of $\mathcal P_{Mas}$.
