On the number of inequivalent linearized Reed-Solomon codes
Linearized Reed-Solomon (LRS) codes form an important family of maximum sum-rank distance (MSRD) codes that generalize both Reed--Solomon codes and Gabidulin codes. In this paper we study the equivalence problem for LRS codes and determine the number of inequivalent codes within this family. Using the correspondence between sum-rank metric codes and systems of $\mathbb{F}_q$-subspaces, we analyze the stabilizer of the Gabidulin system and derive a characterization of equivalence between LRS codes. In particular, we prove that two LRS codes are equivalent if and only if the sets of norms that define the codes coincide up to multiplication by an element of $\mathbb{F}_q^\ast$. This description allows us to reduce the classification problem to the action of $\mathbb{F}_q^\ast$ on subsets of $\mathbb{F}_q^\ast$. As a consequence, we derive formulas for the number of inequivalent linearized Reed-Solomon codes and illustrate the results with explicit examples.
The paired construction for Boolean functions on the slice
Let $V$ be a finite set of size $n$. We consider real functions on the "slice" $\binom{V}{k}$, which are also known as functions in the Johnson scheme. For $I \subseteq J \subseteq V$, the characteristic function of the set of all $K\in\binom{V}{k}$ with $I \subseteq K \subseteq J$ is called "basic". In this article, we investigate a construction arising as the sum of two "opposite" basic functions. In essentially all cases, these "paired" functions are Boolean. Our main result is the determination of the exact degree -- regarding a representation by an $n$-variable polynomial -- of all paired functions. The proof is elementary and does not involve any spectral methods. First, we settle the middle layer case $n=2k$ by identifying and combining various relations among the degrees involved. Then the general case is reduced to the middle layer situation by means of derived, reduced, and dual functions. Remarkably, in certain situations, the degree is strictly smaller than what is guaranteed by the elementary upper bound for the sum of functions. This makes paired functions good candidates for fixed-degree Boolean functions of small support size. As it turns out, for $n = 2k$ and even degree $t \notin \{0,k\}$, paired functions provide the smallest known non-zero Boolean functions, surpassing the $t$-pencils, which is the smallest known construction in all other cases.
Clubs in projective spaces and three-weight rank-metric codes
Linear sets over finite fields are central objects in finite geometry and coding theory, with deep connections to structures such as semifields, blocking sets, KM-arcs, and rank-metric codes. Among them, $i$-clubs, a class of linear sets where all but one point (which has weight $i$) have weight one, have been extensively studied in the projective line but remain poorly understood in higher-dimensional projective spaces. In this paper, we investigate the geometry and algebraic structure of $i$-clubs in projective spaces. We establish upper bounds on their rank by associating them with rank-metric codes and analyzing their parameters via MacWilliams identities. We also provide explicit constructions of $i$-clubs that attain the maximum rank for $i \geq m/2$, and we demonstrate the existence of non-equivalent constructions when $i \leq m-2$. The special case $i = m-1$ is fully classified. Furthermore, we explore the rich geometry of three-weight rank-metric codes, offering new constructions from clubs and partial classification results.
Cameron-Liebler sets of generators in the Klein quadric $Q^+(5,q)$
We investigate Cameron-Liebler sets of planes in the Klein quadric $Q^+(5,q)$ in PG$(5,q)$. We prove that there are many examples of such Cameron-Liebler sets of planes in the Klein quadric. More specifically, we provide an incomplete list of examples of such Cameron-Liebler sets of planes. By doing so, we also provide some characteristic results regarding these sets in connection with the Klein quadric. These results contribute to an open conjecture posed in [21].
The degree of functions in the Johnson and q-Johnson schemes

In 1982, Cameron and Liebler investigated certain "special sets of lines" in PG(3,q), and gave several equivalent characterizations. Due to their interesting geometric and algebraic properties, these "Cameron-Liebler line classes" got much attention. Several generalizations and variants have been considered in the literature, the main directions being a variation of the dimensions of the involved spaces, and studying the analogous situation in the subset lattice. An important tool is the interpretation of the objects as Boolean functions in the "Johnson" and "q-Johnson schemes". In this article, we develop a unified theory covering all these variations. Generalized versions of algebraic and geometric properties will be investigated, having a parallel in the notion of "designs" and "antidesigns" in association schemes, which is connected to Delsarte's concept of "design-orthogonality". This leads to a natural definition of the "degree" and the "weights" of functions in the ambient scheme, refining the existing definitions. We will study the effect of dualization and of elementary modifications of the ambient space on the degree and the weights. Moreover, a divisibility property of the sizes of Boolean functions of degree t will be proven.

On two non-existence results for Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$
This paper focuses on non-existence results for Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets. A Cameron-Liebler $k$-set is a collection of $k$-spaces in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ or $\mathrm{AG}(n,q)$ admitting a certain parameter $x$, which is dependent on the size of this collection. One of the main research questions remains the (non-)existence of Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets with parameter $x$. This paper improves two non-existence results. First we show that the parameter of a non-trivial Cameron-Liebler $k$-set in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ should be larger than $q^{n-\frac{5k}{2}-1}$, which is an improvement of an earlier known lower bound. Secondly, we prove a modular equality on the parameter $x$ of Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ with $x<\frac{q^{n-k}-1}{q^{k+1}-1}$, $n\geq 2k+1$, $n-k+1\geq 7$ and $n-k$ even. In the affine case we show a similar result for $n-k+1\geq 3$ and $n-k$ even. This is a generalization of earlier known modular equalities in the projective and affine case.
On $m$-ovoids of $Q^+(7,q)$ with $q$ odd

In this paper, we provide a construction of $(q+1)$-ovoids of the hyperbolic quadric $Q^+(7,q)$, $q$ an odd prime power, by glueing $(q+1)/2$-ovoids of the elliptic quadric $Q^-(5,q)$. This is possible by controlling some intersection properties of (putative) $m$-ovoids of elliptic quadrics. It yields eventually $(q+1)$-ovoids of $Q^+(7,q)$ not coming from a $1$-system. Secondly, we also construct $m$-ovoids for $m \in \{ 2,4,6,8,10\}$ in $Q^+(7,3)$. Therefore we first investigate how to construct spreads of $\pg(3,q)$ that have as many secants to an elliptic quadric as possible.
Some non-existence results on $m$-ovoids in classical polar spaces

In this paper we develop non-existence results for $m$-ovoids in the classical polar spaces $Q^-(2r+1,q), W(2r-1,q)$ and $H(2r,q^2)$ for $r>2$. In [4] a lower bound on $m$ for the existence of $m$-ovoids of $H(4,q^2)$ is found by using the connection between $m$-ovoids, two-character sets, and strongly regular graphs. This approach is generalized in [3] for the polar spaces $Q^-(2r+1,q), W(2r-1,q)$ and $H(2r,q^2)$, $r>2$. In [1] an improvement for the particular case $H(4,q^2)$ is obtained by exploiting the algebraic structure of the collinearity graph, and using the characterization of an $m$-ovoid as an intruiging set. In this paper, we use an approach based on geometrical and combinatorial arguments, inspired by the results from [10], to improve the bounds from [3].
Cones from maximum $h$-scattered linear sets and a stability result

This paper mainly focuses on cones whose basis is a maximum $h$-scattered linear set. We start by investigating the intersection sizes of such cones with the hyperplanes. Then we analyze two constructions of point sets with few intersection sizes with the hyperplanes. In particular, the second one extends the construction of translation KM-arcs in projective spaces, having as part at infinity a cone with basis a maximum $h$-scattered linear set. As an instance of the second construction we obtain cylinders with a hyperoval as basis, which we call hypercylinders, for which we are able to provide a stability result. The main motivation for these problems is related to the connections with both Hamming and rank distance codes. Indeed, we are able to construct codes with few weights and to provide a stability result for the codes associated with hypercylinders.
Degree 2 Boolean Functions on Grassmann Graphs

We investigate the existence of Boolean degree $d$ functions on the Grassmann graph of $k$-spaces in the vector space $\mathbb{F}_q^n$. For $d=1$ several non-existence and classification results are known, and no non-trivial examples are known for $n \geq 5$. This paper focusses on providing a list of examples on the case $d=2$ in general dimension and in particular for $(n, k)=(6,3)$ and $(n,k) = (8, 4)$. We also discuss connections to the analysis of Boolean functions, regular sets/equitable bipartitions/perfect 2-colorings in graphs, $q$-analogs of designs, and permutation groups. In particular, this represents a natural generalization of Cameron-Liebler line classes.

A modular equality for Cameron-Liebler line classes in projective and affine spaces of odd dimension
Published in Finite Fields and Their Applications, Volume 82, 102047 (2022) • View PublicationBIB
In this article we study Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG$(n,q)$ and AG$(n,q)$, objects also known as boolean degree one functions. A Cameron-Liebler line class $\mathcal{L}$ is known to have a parameter $x$ that depends on the size of $\mathcal{L}$. One of the main questions on Cameron-Liebler line classes is the (non)-existence of these sets for certain parameters $x$. In particularly it is proven in [12] for $n=3$, that the parameter $x$ should satisfy a modular equality. This equality excludes about half of the possible parameters. We generalize this result to a modular equality for Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG$(n,q)$, and AG$(n,q)$ respectively. Since it is known that a Cameron-Liebler line class in AG$(n,q)$ is also a Cameron-Liebler line class in its projective closure, we end this paper with proving that the modular equality in AG$(n,q)$ is a stronger condition than the condition for the projective case.

Cameron-Liebler k-sets in subspaces and non-existence conditions
Published in Designs, Codes and Cryptography, 2022 • View PublicationBIB
In this article we generalize the concepts that were used in the PhD thesis of Drudge to classify Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG$(n,q), n\geq 3$, to Cameron-Liebler sets of $k$-spaces in PG$(n,q)$ and AG$(n,q)$. In his PhD thesis, Drudge proved that every Cameron-Liebler line class in PG$(n,q)$ intersects every $3$-dimensional subspace in a Cameron-Liebler line class in that subspace. We are using the generalization of this result for sets of $k$-spaces in PG$(n,q)$ and AG$(n,q)$. Together with a basic counting argument this gives a very strong non-existence condition, $n\geq 3k+3$. This condition can also be improved for $k$-sets in AG$(n,q)$, with $n\geq 2k+2$.
Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in $\text{AG}(n,q)$

We study Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in the affine geometry, so sets of $k$-spaces in $\text{AG}(n, q)$. This generalizes research on Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in the projective geometry $\text{PG}(n, q)$. Note that in algebraic combinatorics, Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets of $\text{AG}(n, q)$ correspond to certain equitable bipartitions of the Association scheme of $k$-spaces in $\text{AG}(n, q)$, while in the analysis of Boolean functions, they correspond to Boolean degree $1$ functions of $\text{AG}(n, q)$. We define Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in $\text{AG}(n, q)$ by intersection properties with $k$-spreads and show the equivalence of several definitions. In particular, we investigate the relationship between Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in $\text{AG}(n, q)$ and $\text{PG}(n, q)$. As a by-product, we calculate the character table of the association scheme of affine lines. Furthermore, we characterize the smallest examples of Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets. This paper focuses on $\text{AG}(n, q)$ for $n > 3$, while the case for Cameron-Liebler line classes in $\text{AG}(3, q)$ was already treated separately.
Cameron-Liebler line classes in AG(3,q)

The study of Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG($3,q$) arose from classifying specific collineation subgroups of PG($3,q$). Recently, these line classes were considered in new settings. In this point of view, we will generalize the concept of Cameron-Liebler line classes to AG($3,q$). In this article we define Cameron-Liebler line classes using the constant intersection property towards line spreads. The interesting fact about this generalization is the link these line classes have with Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG($3,q$). Next to giving this link, we will also give some equivalent ways to consider Cameron-Liebler line classes in AG($3,q$), some classification results and an example based on the example found in [3] and [6].
