Conical zeta values associated with rational convex polyhedral cones generalise multiple zeta values. We renormalise conical zeta values at poles by means of a generalisation of Connes and Kreimer's Algebraic Birkhoff Factorisation. This paper serves as a motivation for and an application of this generalised renormalisation scheme. The latter also yields an Euler-Maclaurin formula on rational convex polyhedral lattice cones which relates exponential sums to exponential integrals. When restricted to Chen cones, it reduces to Connes and Kreimer's Algebraic Birkhoff Decomposition for maps with values in the algebra of ordinary meromorphic functions in one variable.
Rota--Baxter algebras and left weak composition quasi-symmetric functions

Motivated by a question of Rota, this paper studies the relationship between Rota--Baxter algebras and symmetric related functions. The starting point is the fact that the space of quasi-symmetric functions is spanned by monomial quasi-symmetric functions which are indexed by compositions. When composition is replaced by left weak composition (LWC), we obtain the concept of LWC monomial quasi-symmetric functions and the resulting space of LWC quasi-symmetric functions. In line with the question of Rota, the latter is shown to be isomorphic to the free commutative nonunitary Rota--Baxter algebra on one generator. The combinatorial interpretation of quasi-symmetric functions by $P$-partitions from compositions is extended to the context of left weak compositions, leading to the concept of LWC fundamental quasi-symmetric functions. The transformation formulas for LWC monomial and LWC fundamental quasi-symmetric functions are obtained, generalizing the corresponding results for quasi-symmetric functions. Extending the close relationship between quasi-symmetric functions and multiple zeta values, weighted multiple zeta values and a $q$-analog of multiple zeta values are investigated and a decomposition formula is established.
A conical approach to Laurent expansions for multivariate meromorphic germs with linear poles

We use convex polyhedral cones to study a large class of multivariate meromorphic germs, namely those with linear poles, which naturally arise in various contexts in mathematics and physics. We express such a germ as a sum of a holomorphic germ and a linear combination of special non-holomorphic germs called polar germs. In analyzing the supporting cones -- cones that reflect the pole structure of the polar germs -- we obtain a geometric criterion for the non-holomorphicity of linear combinations of polar germs. This yields the uniqueness of the above sum when required to be supported on a suitable family of cones and assigns a Laurent expansion to the germ. Laurent expansions provide various decompositions of such germs and thereby a uniformized proof of known results on decompositions of rational fractions. These Laurent expansions also yield new concepts on the space of such germs, all of which are independent of the choice of the specific Laurent expansion. These include a generalization of Jeffrey-Kirwan's residue, a filtered residue and a coproduct in the space of such germs. When applied to exponential sums on rational convex polyhedral cones, the filtered residue yields back exponential integrals.

This is a leisurely introductory account addressed to non-experts and based on previous work by the authors, on how methods borrowed from physics can be used to "count" an infinite number of points. We begin with the classical case of counting integer points on the non-negative real axis and the classical Euler-Maclaurin formula. As an intermediate stage, we count integer points on product cones where the roles played by the coalgebra and the algebraic Birkhoff factorization can be appreciated in a relatively simple setting. We then consider the general case of (lattice) cones for which we introduce a conilpotent coalgebra of cones, with applications to renormalization of conical zeta values. When evaluated at zero arguments conical zeta functions indeed "count" integer points on cones.

In this paper we apply the methods of rewriting systems and Gröbner-Shirshov bases to give a unified approach to a class of linear operators on associative algebras. These operators resemble the classic Rota-Baxter operator, and they are called {\it Rota-Baxter type operators}. We characterize a Rota-Baxter type operator by the convergency of a rewriting system associated to the operator. By associating such an operator to a Gröbner-Shirshov basis, we obtain a canonical basis for the free algebras in the category of associative algebras with that operator. This construction include as special cases several previous ones for free objects in similar categories, such as those of Rota-Baxter algebras and Nijenhuis algebras.

Bracketed words are basic structures both in mathematics (such as Rota-Baxter algebras) and mathematical physics (such as rooted trees) where the locations of the substructures are important. In this paper we give the classification of the relative locations of two bracketed subwords of a bracketed word in an operated semigroup into the separated, nested and intersecting cases. We achieve this by establishing a correspondence between relative locations of bracketed words and those of words by applying the concept of Motzkin words which are the algebraic forms of Motzkin paths.

In this paper, we study averaging operators from an algebraic and combinatorial point of view. We first construct free averaging algebras in terms of a class of bracketed words called averaging words. We next apply this construction to obtain one and two variable generating functions for subsets of averaging words when the averaging operator is taken to be idempotent. When the averaging algebra has an idempotent generator, the generating function in one variable is twice the generating function for large Schröder numbers, leading us to give interpretations of large Schröder numbers in terms of bracketed words and rooted trees, as well as a recursive formula for these numbers. We also give a representation of free averaging algebras by unreduced trees and apply it to give a combinatorial description of the operad of averaging algebras.

In this paper we obtain a recursive formula for the shuffle product and apply it to derive two restricted decomposition formulas for multiple zeta values (MZVs). The first formula generalizes the decomposition formula of Euler and is similar to the restricted formula of Eie and Wei for MZVs with one strings of 1's. The second formula generalizes the previous results to the product of two MZVs with one and two strings of 1's respectively.

We equip the space of lattice cones with a coproduct which makes it a connected cograded colagebra. The exponential sum and exponential integral on lattice cones can be viewed as linear maps on this space with values in the space of meromorphic germs with linear poles at zero. We investigate the subdivision properties-- reminiscent of the inclusion-exclusion principle for the cardinal on finite sets-- of such linear maps and establish a compatibility of these properties with respect to the convolution quotient of the coalgebra. Implementing the Algebraic Birkhoff Factorization procedure on the linear maps under consideration, we factorize the exponential sum as a convolution quotient of two maps, with each of the maps in the factorization satisfying a subdivision property. Consequently, the Algebraic Birkhoff Factorization specializes to the Euler-Maclaurin formula on lattice cones and provides a simple formula for the interpolating factor by means of a projection map.

This paper establishes a uniform procedure to split the operations in any algebraic operad, generalizing previous known notions of splitting algebraic structures from the dendriform algebra of Loday that splits the associative operation to the successors that split any binary operad. Examples are provided for various $n$-associative algebras, $n$-Lie algebras, $A_\infty$ algebras and $L_\infty$ algebras. Further, the concept of a Rota-Baxter operator, first showing its importance in the associative and Lie algebra context and then generalized to any binary operads, is generalized to arbitrary operads. The classical links from the Rota-Baxter associative algebra to the dendriform algebra and its numerous generalizations are further generalized and unified as the link from the Rota-Baxter operator on an operad to the splitting of the operad. Finally, the remarkable fact that any dendriform algebra can be recovered from a relative Rota-Baxter operator is generalized to the context of operads with the generalized notion of a relative Rota-Baxter operator for any operad.

Partial fraction methods play an important role in the study of multiple zeta values. One class of such fractions is related to the integral representations of MZVs. We show that this class of fractions has a natural structure of shuffle algebra. This finding conceptualizes the connections among the various methods of stuffle, shuffle and partial fractions in the study of MZVs. This approach also gives an explicit product formula of the fractions.

We introduce the concept of a conical zeta value as a geometric generalization of a multiple zeta value in the context of convex cones. The quasi-shuffle and shuffle relations of multiple zeta values are generalized to open cone subdivision and closed cone subdivision relations respectively for conical zeta values. In order to achieve the closed cone subdivision relation, we also interpret linear relations among fractions as subdivisions of decorated closed cones. As a generalization of the double shuffle relation of multiple zeta values, we give the double subdivision relation of conical zeta values and formulate the extended double subdivision relation conjecture for conical zeta values.

We study generating functions in the context of Rota-Baxter algebras. We show that exponential generating functions can be naturally viewed in a very special case of complete free commutative Rota-Baxter algebras. This allows us to use free Rota-Baxter algebras to give a broad class of algebraic structures in which generalizations of generating functions can be studied. We generalize the product formula and composition formula for exponential power series. We also give generating functions both for known number families such as Stirling numbers of the second kind and partition numbers, and for new number families such as those from not necessarily disjoint partitions and partitions of multisets.

We consider the notions of the replicators, including the duplicator and triplicator, of a binary operad. As in the closely related notions of di-Var-algebra and tri-Var-algebra in [14], they provide a general operadic definition for the recent constructions of replicating the operations of algebraic structures. We show that taking replicators is in Koszul dual to taking successors in [3] for binary quadratic operads and is equivalent to taking the white product with certain operads such as Perm. We also relate the replicators to the actions of average operators.

In this paper we study (associative) Nijenhuis algebras, with emphasis on the relationship between the category of Nijenhuis algebras and the categories of NS algebras. This is in analogy to the well-known theory of the adjoint functor from the category of Lie algebras to that of associative algebras, and the more recent results on the adjoint functor from the categories of dendriform and tridendriform algebras to that of Rota-Baxter algebras. We first give an explicit construction of free Nijenhuis algebras and then apply it to obtain the universal enveloping Nijenhuis algebra of an NS algebra. We further apply the construction to determine the binary quadratic nonsymmetric algebra, called the N-dendriform algebra, that is compatible with the Nijenhuis algebra. As it turns out, the N-dendriform algebra has more relations than the NS algebra.

This paper provides a general operadic definition for the notion of splitting the operations of algebraic structures. This construction is proved to be equivalent to some Manin products of operads and it is shown to be closely related to Rota-Baxter operators. Hence, it gives a new effective way to compute Manin black products. The present construction is shown to have symmetry properties. Finally, this allows us to describe the algebraic structure of square matrices with coefficients in algebras of certain types. Many examples illustrate this text, including the case of Jordan algebras.

This article studies the Lie algebra $Diff(KΓ)$ of derivations on the path algebra $KΓ$ of a quiver $Γ$ and the Lie algebra on the first Hochschild cohomology group $H^1(KΓ)$. We relate these Lie algebras to the algebraic and combinatorial properties of the path algebra. Characterizations of derivations on a path algebra are obtained, leading to a canonical basis of $Diff(KΓ)$ and its Lie algebra properties. Special derivations are associated to the vertices, arrows and faces of a quiver, and the concepts of a connected matrix and boundary matrix are introduced to study the relations among these derivations, concluding that the space of edge derivations is the direct sum of the spaces of the vertex derivations and the face derivations, while the dimensions of the latter spaces are the largest possible. By taking dimensions, this relation among spaces of derivations recovers Euler's polyhedron formula. This relation also leads a combinatorial construction of a canonical basis of the Lie algebra $H^1(KΓ)$, together with a semidirect sum decomposition of $H^1(KΓ)$.

We give an explicit formula for the shuffle relation in a general double shuffle framework that specializes to double shuffle relations of multiple zeta values and multiple polylogarithms. As an application, we generalize the well-known decomposition formula of Euler that expresses the product of two Riemann zeta values as a sum of double zeta values to a formula that expresses the product of two multiple polylogarithm values as a sum of other multiple polylogarithm values.

Central in the Hopf algebra approach to the renormalization of perturbative quantum field theory of Connes and Kreimer is their Algebraic Birkhoff Decomposition. In this tutorial article, we introduce their decomposition and prove it by the Atkinson Factorization in Rota-Baxter algebra. We then give some applications of this decomposition in the study of divergent integrals and multiple zeta values.
Structure theorems of mixable shuffle algebras and free commutative Rota-Baxter algebras
We study the ring theoretical structures of mixable shuffle algebras and their associated free commutative Rota-Baxter algebras. For this study we utilize the connection of the mixable shuffle algebras with the overlapping shuffle algebra of Hazewinkel, quasi-shuffle algebras of Hoffman and quasi-symmetric functions. This connection allows us to apply methods and results on shuffle products and Lyndon words on ordered sets. As a result, we obtain structure theorems for a large class of mixable shuffle algebras and free commutative Rota-Baxter algebras with various coefficient rings.
