The aim of this paper is to give analogs of the cluster expansion formula of Musiker and Schiffler for cluster algebras of type A with coefficients arising from boundary arcs of the corresponding triangulated polygon. Indeed, we give three cluster expansion formulas by perfect matchings of angles in triangulated polygon, by discrete subsets of arrows of the corresponding ice quiver and by minimal cuts of the corresponding quiver with potential.

We present new lower bounds for the size of perfect and separating hash families ensuring their existence. Such new bounds are based on the algorithmic Cluster expansion improved version of the Lovász Local Lemma, which also implies that the Moser-Tardos algorithm finds such hash families in polynomial time.
A local lemma via entropy compression
In the framework of the probabilistic method in combinatorics, we revisit the entropy compression method clarifying the setting in which it can be applied and providing a theorem yielding a general constructive criterion. We finally elucidate, through topical examples, the effectiveness of the entropy-compression criterion in comparison with the Lovasz Local Lemma criterion and, in particular, with the improved criterion based on cluster expansion.

We consider a mixture of non-overlapping rods of different lengths $\ell_k$ moving in $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{Z}$. Our main result are necessary and sufficient convergence criteria for the expansion of the pressure in terms of the activities $z_k$ and the densities $ρ_k$. This provides an explicit example against which to test known cluster expansion criteria, and illustrates that for non-negative interactions, the virial expansion can converge in a domain much larger than the activity expansion. In addition, we give explicit formulas that generalize the well-known relation between non-overlapping rods and labelled rooted trees. We also prove that for certain choices of the activities, the system can undergo a condensation transition akin to that of the zero-range process. The key tool is a fixed point equation for the pressure.
Tridiagonalized GUE matrices are a matrix model for labeled mobiles
It is well-known that the number of planar maps with prescribed vertex degree distribution and suitable labeling can be represented as the leading coefficient of the $\frac{1}{N}$-expansion of a joint cumulant of traces of powers of an $N$-by-$N$ GUE matrix. Here we undertake the calculation of this leading coefficient in a different way. Firstly, we tridiagonalize the GUE matrix in the manner of Trotter and Dumitriu-Edelman and then alter it by conjugation to make the subdiagonal identically equal to $1$. Secondly, we apply the cluster expansion technique (specifically, the Brydges-Kennedy-Abdesselam-Rivasseau formula) from rigorous statistical mechanics. Thirdly, by sorting through the terms of the expansion thus generated we arrive at an alternate interpretation for the leading coefficient related to factorizations of the long cycle $(12\cdots n)\in S_n$. Finally, we reconcile the group-theoretical objects emerging from our calculation with the labeled mobiles of Bouttier-Di Francesco-Guitter.

The Loop Vertex Expansion (LVE) is a quantum field theory (QFT) method which explicitly computes the Borel sum of Feynman perturbation series. This LVE relies in a crucial way on symmetric tree weights which define a measure on the set of spanning trees of any connected graph. In this paper we generalize this method by defining new tree weights. They depend on the choice of a partition of a set of vertices of the graph, and when the partition is non-trivial, they are no longer symmetric under permutation of vertices. Nevertheless we prove they have the required positivity property to lead to a convergent LVE; in fact, we formulate this positivity property precisely for the first time. Our generalized tree weights are inspired by the Brydges-Battle-Federbush work on cluster expansions and could be particularly suited to the computation of connected functions in QFT. Several concrete examples are explicitly given.

A recent theorem of Bissacot, et al. proved using results about the cluster expansion in statistical mechanics extends the Lovász Local Lemma by weakening the conditions under which its conclusions holds. In this note, we prove an algorithmic analog of this result, extending Moser and Tardos's recent algorithmic Local Lemma, and providing an alternative proof of the theorem of Bissacot, et al. applicable in the Moser-Tardos algorithmic framework.
Left and right convergence of graphs with bounded degree

The theory of convergent graph sequences has been worked out in two extreme cases, dense graphs and bounded degree graphs. One can define convergence in terms of counting homomorphisms from fixed graphs into members of the sequence (left-convergence), or counting homomorphisms into fixed graphs (right-convergence). Under appropriate conditions, these two ways of defining convergence was proved to be equivalent in the dense case by Borgs, Chayes, Lovász, Sós and Vesztergombi. In this paper a similar equivalence is established in the bounded degree case.
In terms of statistical physics, the implication that left convergence implies right convergence means that for a left-convergent sequence, partition functions of a large class of statistical physics models converge. The proof relies on techniques from statistical physics, like cluster expansion and Dobrushin Uniqueness.

An old result by Shearer relates the Lovász Local Lemma with the independent set polynomial on graphs, and consequently, as observed by Scott and Sokal, with the partition function of the hard core lattice gas on graphs. We use this connection and a recent result on the analyticity of the logarithm of the partition function of the abstract polymer gas to get an improved version of the Lovász Local Lemma. As applications we obtain tighter bounds on conditions for the existence of latin transversal matrices and the satisfiability of k-SAT forms.

We study cluster algebras with principal coefficient systems that are associated to unpunctured surfaces. We give a direct formula for the Laurent polynomial expansion of cluster variables in these cluster algebras in terms of perfect matchings of a certain graph $G_{T,γ}$ that is constructed from the surface by recursive glueing of elementary pieces that we call tiles. We also give a second formula for these Laurent polynomial expansions in terms of subgraphs of the graph $G_{T,γ}$.

In this paper we give a graph theoretic combinatorial interpretation for the cluster variables that arise in most cluster algebras of finite type. In particular, we provide a family of graphs such that a weighted enumeration of their perfect matchings encodes the numerator of the associated Laurent polynomial while decompositions of the graphs correspond to the denominator. This complements recent work by Schiffler and Carroll-Price for a cluster expansion formula for the A_n case while providing a novel interpretation for the B_n, C_n, and D_n cases.

A convergence criterion of cluster expansion is presented in the case of an abstract polymer system with general pair interactions (i.e. not necessarily hard core or repulsive). As a concrete example, the low temperature disordered phase of the BEG model with infinite range interactions, decaying polynomially as $1/r^{d+λ}$ with $λ>0$, is studied.

We develop a systematic cluster expansion for dilute systems in the highly dilute phase. We first apply it to the calculation of the entropy of the K-satisfiability problem in the satisfiable phase. We derive a series expansion in the control parameter, the average connectivity, that is identical to the one obtained by using the replica approach with a replica symmetric ({\sc rs}) {\it Ansatz}, when the order parameter is calculated via a perturbative expansion in the control parameter. As a second application we compute the free-energy of the Viana-Bray model in the paramagnetic phase. The cluster expansion allows one to compute finite-size corrections in a simple manner and these are particularly important in optimization problems. Importantly enough, these calculations prove the exactness of the {\sc rs} {\it Ansatz} below the percolation threshold and might require its revision between this and the easy-to-hard transition.
