We determine the asymptotics of the largest cardinality of a set of Hamilton paths in the complete graph with vertex set [n] under the condition that for any two of the paths in the family there is a subpath of length k entirely contained in only one of them and edge{disjoint from the other one.
A note on sub-total domination in graphs
Let $G$ be a simple and finite graph without isolated vertices. In this paper we introduce and study a new degree sequence derived invariant called the \emph{sub-total domination number}, denoted $\sub_t(G)$. In particular, we show that $\sub_t(G)$ serves as a lower bound on $γ_t(G)$, where $γ_t(G)$ denotes the heavily studied \emph{total domination number} of $G$.

Inspired by the study of random graphs and simplicial complexes, and motivated by the need to understand average behavior of ideals, we propose and study probabilistic models of random monomial ideals. We prove theorems about the probability distributions, expectations and thresholds for events involving monomial ideals with given Hilbert function, Krull dimension, first graded Betti numbers, and present several experimentally-backed conjectures about regularity, projective dimension, strong genericity, and Cohen-Macaulayness of random monomial ideals.

Bollobás and Scott [5] conjectured that every graph $G$ has a balanced bipartite spanning subgraph $H$ such that for each $v\in V(G)$, $d_H(v)\ge (d_G(v)-1)/2$. In this paper, we show that every graphic sequence has a realization for which this Bollobás-Scott conjecture holds, confirming a conjecture of Hartke and Seacrest [10]. On the other hand, we give an infinite family of counterexamples to this Bollobás-Scott conjecture, which indicates that $\lfloor (d_G(v)-1)/2\rfloor$ (rather than $(d_G(v)-1)/2$) is probably the correct lower bound. We also study bipartitions $V_1, V_2$ of graphs with a fixed number of edges. We provide a (best possible) upper bound on $e(V_1)^λ+e(V_2)^λ$ for any real $λ\geq 1$ (the case $λ=2$ is a question of Scott [13]) and answer a question of Scott [13] on $\max\{e(V_1),e(V_2)\}$.

Enumeration of Graphs and the Characteristic Polynomial of the Hyperplane Arrangements $\mathcal{J}_n$
We give a complete formula for the characteristic polynomial of hyperplane arrangements $\mathcal J_n$ consisting of the hyperplanes $x_i+x_j=1$, $x_k=0$, $x_l=1$, $ 1\leq i, j, k, l\leq n$. The formula is obtained by associating hyperplane arrangements with graphs, and then enumerating central graphs via generating functions for the number of bipartite graphs of given order, size and number of connected components.
Graph homomorphisms on rectangular matrices over division rings I
Let $\mathbb{D}$ be a division ring, and let ${\mathbb{D}}^{m\times n}$ be the set of $m\times n$ matrices over $\mathbb{D}$. Two matrices $A,B\in {\mathbb{D}}^{m\times n}$ are adjacent if ${\rm rank}(A-B)=1$. By the adjacency, ${\mathbb{D}}^{m\times n}$ is a connected graph. Suppose that $m,n,m',n'\geq2$ are integers and $\mathbb{D}'$ is a division ring. Using the weighted semi-affine map and algebraic method, we characterize graph homomorphisms from ${\mathbb{D}}^{m\times n}$ to ${\mathbb{D}'}^{m'\times n'}$ (where $|\mathbb{D}|\geq 4$) under some weaker conditions.
Characteristic Polynomial of Certain Hyperplane Arrangements through Graph Theory
We give a formula for computing the characteristic polynomial for certain hyperplane arrangements in terms of the number of bipartite graphs of given rank and cardinality.

For given graphs $G_1,\ldots,G_k$, the size-Ramsey number $\hat{R}(G_1,\ldots,G_k)$ is the smallest integer $m$ for which there exists a graph $H$ on $m$ edges such that in every $k$-edge coloring of $H$ with colors $1,\ldots,k$, $ H $ contains a monochromatic copy of $G_i$ of color $i$ for some $1\leq i\leq k$. We denote $\hat{R}(G_1,\ldots,G_k)$ by $\hat{R}_{k}(G)$ when $G_1=\cdots=G_k=G$. Haxell, Kohayakawa and Łuczak showed that the size Ramsey number of a cycle $C_n$ is linear in $n$ i.e. $\hat{R}_{k}(C_{n})\leq c_k n$ for some constant $c_k$. Their proof, is based on the regularity lemma of Szemerédi and so no specific constant $c_k$ is known. In this paper, we give various upper bounds for the size-Ramsey numbers of cycles. We give an alternative proof of $\hat{R}_{k}(C_{n})\leq c_k n$, avoiding the use of the regularity lemma. For two colours, we show that for sufficiently large $n$ we have $\hat{R}(C_{n},C_{n}) \leq 10^6\times cn,$ where $c=843$ if $n$ is even and $c=113482$ otherwise.
A note on counting flows in signed graphs

Tutte initiated the study of nowhere-zero flows and proved the following fundamental theorem: For every graph $G$ there is a polynomial $f$ so that for every abelian group $Γ$ of order $n$, the number of nowhere-zero $Γ$-flows in $G$ is $f(n)$. For signed graphs (which have bidirected orientations), the situation is more subtle. For a finite group $Γ$, let $ε_2(Γ)$ be the largest integer $d$ so that $Γ$ has a subgroup isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$. We prove that for every signed graph $G$ and $d \ge 0$ there is a polynomial $f_d$ so that $f_d(n)$ is the number of nowhere-zero $Γ$-flows in $G$ for every abelian group $Γ$ with $ε_2(Γ) = d$ and $|Γ| = 2^d n$. Beck and Zaslavsky had previously established the special case of this result when $d=0$ (i.e., when $Γ$ has odd order).

We prove that every 3-edge-connected graph $G$ has a 3-flow $φ$ with the property that $|\mathop{supp}(φ)| \ge \frac{5}{6} |E(G)|$. The graph $K_4$ demonstrates that this $\frac{5}{6}$ ratio is best possible; there is an infinite family where $\frac 56$ is tight.
Sorting by Reversals and the Theory of 4-Regular Graphs

We show that the theory of sorting by reversals fits into the well-established theory of circuit partitions of 4-regular multigraphs (which also involves the combinatorial structures of circle graphs and delta-matroids). In this way, we expose strong connections between the two theories that have not been fully appreciated before. We also discuss a generalization of sorting by reversals involving the double-cut-and-join (DCJ) operation. Finally, we also show that the theory of sorting by reversals is closely related to that of gene assembly in ciliates.

The Erdős--Gallai Theorem states that for $k\geq 3$ every graph on $n$ vertices with more than $\frac{1}{2}(k-1)(n-1)$ edges contains a cycle of length at least $k$. Kopylov proved a strengthening of this result for 2-connected graphs with extremal examples $H_{n,k,t}$ and $H_{n,k,2}$. In this note, we generalize the result of Kopylov to bound the number of $s$-cliques in a graph with circumference less than $k$. Furthermore, we show that the same extremal examples that maximize the number of edges also maximize the number of cliques of any fixed size. Finally, we obtain the extremal number of $s$-cliques in a graph with no path on $k$-vertices.

Letting $\mathcal{M}$ denote the space of finite measures on $\mathbb{N}$, and $μ_λ\in\mathcal{M}$ denote the Poisson distribution with parameter $λ$, the function $W:[0,1]^2\to\mathcal{M}$ given by \[ W(x,y)=μ_{c\log x\log y} \] is called the PAG graphon with density $c$. It is known that this is the limit, in the multigraph homomorphism sense, of the dense Preferential Attachment Graph (PAG) model with edge density $c$. This graphon can then in turn be used to generate the so-called W-random graphs in a natural way. The aim of this paper is to compare the dense PAG model with the W-random graph model obtained from the corresponding graphon. Motivated by the multigraph limit theory, we investigate the expected jumble norm distance of the two models in terms on the number of vertices $n$. We present a coupling for which the expectation can be bounded from above by $O(\log^2 n\cdot n^{-1/3})$, and provide a universal lower bound that is coupling independent, but with a worse exponent.
Proof of Komlós's conjecture on Hamiltonian subsets

Komlós conjectured in 1981 that among all graphs with minimum degree at least $d$, the complete graph $K_{d+1}$ minimises the number of Hamiltonian subsets, where a subset of vertices is Hamiltonian if it contains a spanning cycle. We prove this conjecture when $d$ is sufficiently large. In fact we prove a stronger result: for large $d$, any graph $G$ with average degree at least $d$ contains almost twice as many Hamiltonian subsets as $K_{d+1}$, unless $G$ is isomorphic to $K_{d+1}$ or a certain other graph which we specify.

We prove that graphs excluding a fixed immersion have bounded nonrepetitive chromatic number. More generally, we prove that if $H$ is a fixed planar graph that has a planar embedding with all the vertices with degree at least 4 on a single face, then graphs excluding $H$ as a topological minor have bounded nonrepetitive chromatic number. This is the largest class of graphs known to have bounded nonrepetitive chromatic number.

Carmesin, Federici, and Georgakopoulos [arXiv:1603.06712] constructed a transient hyperbolic graph that has no transient subtrees and that has the Liouville property for harmonic functions. We modify their construction to get a unimodular random graph with the same properties.

In previous papers, threshold probabilities for the properties of a random distance graph to contain strictly balanced graphs were found. We extend this result to arbitrary graphs and prove that the number of copies of a strictly balanced graph has asymptotically Poisson distribution at the threshold.
The cycle polynomial of a permutation group

The cycle polynomial of a finite permutation group $G$ is the generating function for the number of elements of $G$ with a given number of cycles: \[F_G(x) = \sum_{g\in G}x^{c(g)},\] where $c(g)$ is the number of cycles of $g$ on $Ω$. In the first part of the paper, we develop basic properties of this polynomial, and give a number of examples.
In the 1970s, Richard Stanley introduced the notion of reciprocity for pairs of combinatorial polynomials. We show that, in a considerable number of cases, there is a polynomial in the reciprocal relation to the cycle polynomial of $G$; this is the orbital chromatic polynomial of $Γ$ and $G$, where $Γ$ is a $G$-invariant graph, introduced by the first author, Jackson and Rudd. We pose the general problem of finding all such reciprocal pairs, and give a number of examples and characterisations: the latter include the cases where $Γ$ is a complete or null graph or a tree.
The paper concludes with some comments on other polynomials associated with a permutation group.
