A connected symmetric graph of prime valency is {\em basic} if its automorphism group contains no nontrivial normal subgroup having more than two orbits. Let $p$ be a prime and $n$ a positive integer. In this paper, we investigate properties of connected pentavalent symmetric graphs of order $2p^n$, and it is shown that a connected pentavalent symmetric graph of order $2p^n$ is basic if and only if it is either a graph of order $6$, $16$, $250$, or a graph of three infinite families of Cayley graphs on generalized dihedral groups -- one family has order $2p$ with $p=5$ or $5 \mid (p-1)$, one family has order $2p^2$ with $5 \mid (p\pm 1)$, and the other family has order $2p^4$. Furthermore, the automorphism groups of these basic graphs are computed. Similar works on cubic and tetravalent symmetric graphs of order $2p^n$ have been done.
It is shown that basic graphs of connected pentavalent symmetric graphs of order $2p^n$ are symmetric elementary abelian covers of the dipole $\Dip_5$, and with covering techniques, uniqueness and automorphism groups of these basic graphs are determined. Moreover, symmetric $\mz_p^n$-covers of the dipole $\Dip_5$ are classified. As a byproduct, connected pentavalent symmetric graphs of order $2p^2$ are classified.

Given a graph $G=(V,E)$ and a positive integer $t\geq2$, the task in the vertex cover $P_t$ ($VCP_t$) problem is to find a minimum subset of vertices $F\subseteq V$ such that every path of order $t$ in $G$ contains at least one vertex from $F$. The $VCP_t$ problem is NP-complete for any integer $t\geq2$ and has many applications in real world. Recently, the authors presented a dynamic programming algorithm running in time $4^p\cdot n^{O(1)}$ for the $VCP_3$ problem on $n$-vertex graphs with treewidth $p$. In this paper, we propose an improvement of it and improved the time-complexity to $3^p\cdot n^{O(1)}$.
The connected vertex cover $P_3$ ($CVCP_3$) problem is the connected variation of the $VCP_3$ problem where $G[F]$ is required to be connected. Using the Cut\&Count technique, we give a randomized algorithm with runtime $4^p\cdot n^{O(1)}$ for the $CVCP_3$ problem on $n$-vertex graphs with treewidth $p$.

A formula for computing the metric dimension of a simple graph, having no singleton twin, is given. A sufficient condition for a simple graph to have the exchange property, for resolving sets, is found. Some families of power graphs of finite groups, having this exchange property, are identified. The metric dimension of the power graph of a dihedral group is also computed.
Characterising Bounded Expansion by Neighbourhood Complexity

We show that a graph class $\cal G$ has bounded expansion if and only if it has bounded $r$-neighbourhood complexity, i.e. for any vertex set $X$ of any subgraph $H$ of $G\in\cal G$, the number of subsets of $X$ which are exact $r$-neighbourhoods of vertices of $H$ on $X$ is linear to the size of $X$. This is established by bounding the $r$-neighbourhood complexity of a graph in terms of both its $r$-centred colouring number and its weak $r$-colouring number, which provide known characterisations to the property of bounded expansion.
Chromatic number of signed graphs with bounded maximum degree
A signed graph $ (G, Σ)$ is a graph positive and negative ($Σ$ denotes the set of negative edges). To re-sign a vertex $v$ of a signed graph $ (G, Σ)$ is to switch the signs of the edges incident to $v$. If one can obtain $ (G, Σ')$ by re-signing some vertices of $ (G, Σ)$, then
$ (G, Σ) \equiv (G, Σ')$.
A signed graphs $ (G, Σ)$ admits an homomorphism to $ (H, Λ)$ if there is a sign preserving vertex mapping from $(G,Σ')$ to $(H, Λ)$ for some $ (G, Σ) \equiv (G, Σ')$.
The signed chromatic number $χ_{s}( (G, Σ))$ of the signed graph $(G, Σ)$ is the minimum order (number of vertices) of a signed graph $(H, Λ)$ such that $ (G, Σ)$ admits a homomorphism to $(H, Λ)$. For a family $ \mathcal{F}$ of signed graphs $χ_{s}(\mathcal{F}) = \text{max}_{(G,Σ) \in \mathcal{F}} χ_{s}( (G, Σ))$.
We prove $2^{Δ/2-1} \leq χ_s(\mathcal{G}_Δ) \leq (Δ-1)^2. 2^{(Δ-1)} +2$ for all $Δ\geq 3$ where $\mathcal{G}_Δ$ is the family of connected signed graphs with maximum degree $Δ$. \end{abstract}

A 2-stab unit interval graph (2SUIG) is an axes-parallel unit square intersection graph where the unit squares intersect either of the two fixed lines parallel to the $X$-axis, distance $1 + ε$ ($0 < ε< 1$) apart. This family of graphs allow us to study local structures of unit square intersection graphs, that is, graphs with cubicity 2. The complexity of determining whether a tree has cubicity 2 is unknown while the graph recognition problem for unit square intersection graph is known to be NP-hard. We present a polynomial time algorithm for recognizing trees that admit a 2SUIG representation.

The singularity degree of a semidefinite programming problem is the smallest number of facial reduction steps to make the problem strictly feasible. We introduce two new graph parameters, called the singularity degree and the nondegenerate singularity degree, based on the singularity degree of the positive semidefinite matrix completion problem. We give a characterization of the class of graphs whose parameter value is equal to one for each parameter. Specifically, we show that the singularity degree of a graph is equal to one if and only if the graph is chordal, and the nondegenerate singularity degree of a graph is equal to one if and only if the graph is the clique sum of chordal graphs and $K_4$-minor free graphs. We also show that the singularity degree is bounded by two if the treewidth is bounded by two, and exhibit a family of graphs with treewidth three, whose singularity degree grows linearly in the number of vertices.

The fractional stable set polytope ${\rm FRAC}(G)$ of a simple graph $G$ with $d$ vertices is a rational polytope that is the set of nonnegative vectors $(x_1,\ldots,x_d)$ satisfying $x_i+x_j\le 1$ for every edge $(i,j)$ of $G$. In this paper we show that (i) The $δ$-vector of a lattice polytope $2 {\rm FRAC}(G)$ is alternatingly increasing; (ii) The Ehrhart ring of ${\rm FRAC}(G)$ is Gorenstein; (iii) The coefficients of the numerator of the Ehrhart series of ${\rm FRAC}(G)$ are symmetric, unimodal and computed by the $δ$-vector of $2 {\rm FRAC}(G)$.

In this note we present some abstract ideas how one can construct spaces from building blocks according to a graph. The coupling is expressed via boundary pairs, and can be applied to very different spaces such as discrete graphs, quantum graphs or graph-like manifolds. We show a spectral analysis of graph-like spaces, and consider as a special case vector-valued quantum graphs. Moreover, we provide a prototype of a convergence theorem for shrinking graph-like spaces with Dirichlet boundary conditions. (Dedicated to Pavel Exner's 70th birthday)

We say that a $2$-dimensional CW complex is a multibranched surface if we remove all points whose open neighborhoods are homeomorphic to the $2$-dimensional Euclidean space, then we obtain a $1$-dimensional complex which is homeomorphic to a disjoint union of some $S^1$'s. We define the genus of a multibranched surface $X$ as the minimum number of genera of $3$-dimensional manifold into which $X$ can be embedded. We prove some inequalities which give upper bounds for the genus of a multibranched surface. A multibranched surface is a generalization of graphs. Therefore, we can define "minors" of multibranched surfaces analogously. We study various properties of the minors of multibranched surfaces.
Complexity of equitable tree-coloring problems
A $(q,t)$\emph{-tree-coloring} of a graph $G$ is a $q$-coloring of vertices of $G$ such that the subgraph induced by each color class is a forest of maximum degree at most $t.$ A $(q,\infty)$\emph{-tree-coloring} of a graph $G$ is a $q$-coloring of vertices of $G$ such that the subgraph induced by each color class is a forest.
Wu, Zhang, and Li introduced the concept of \emph{equitable $(q, t)$-tree-coloring} (respectively, \emph{equitable $(q, \infty)$-tree-coloring}) which is a $(q,t)$-tree-coloring (respectively, $(q, \infty)$-tree-coloring) such that the sizes of any two color classes differ by at most one. Among other results, they obtained a sharp upper bound on the minimum $p$ such that $K_{n,n}$ has an equitable $(q, 1)$-tree-coloring for every $q\geq p.$
In this paper, we obtain a polynomial time criterion to decide if a complete bipartite graph has an equitable $(q,t)$-tree-coloring or an equitable $(q,\infty)$-tree-coloring. Nevertheless, deciding if a graph $G$ in general has an equitable $(q,t)$-tree-coloring or an equitable $(q,\infty)$-tree-coloring is NP-complete.

For a graph $G$, let $\cn(G)$ and $\la(G)$ denote the chromatic number of $G$ and the maximum local edge connectivity of $G$, respectively. A result of Dirac \cite{Dirac53} implies that every graph $G$ satisfies $\cn(G)\leq \la(G)+1$. In this paper we characterize the graphs $G$ for which $\cn(G)=\la(G)+1$. The case $\la(G)=3$ was already solved by Alboulker {\em et al.\,} \cite{AlboukerV2016}. We show that a graph $G$ with $\la(G)=k\geq 4$ satisfies $\cn(G)=k+1$ if and only if $G$ contains a block which can be obtained from copies of $K_{k+1}$ by repeated applications of the Hajós join.
The Matching Process and Independent Process in Random Regular Graphs and Hypergraphs

In this note, we analyze two random greedy processes on sparse random graphs and hypergraphs with a given degree sequence. First we analyze the matching process, which builds a set of disjoint edges one edge at a time; then we analyze the independent process, which builds an independent set of vertices one vertex at a time. We use the differential equations method and apply a general theorem of Warnke. Our main contribution is to significantly reduce the associated systems of differential equations and simplify the expression for the final size of the matching or independent set.
A Tight Bound for Minimal Connectivity
For minimally $k$-connected graphs on $n$ vertices, Mader proved a tight lower bound for the number $|V_k|$ of vertices of degree $k$ in dependence on $n$ and $k$. Oxley observed 1981 that in many cases a considerably better bound can be given if $m := |E|$ is used as additional parameter, i.e. in dependence on $m$, $n$ and $k$. It was left open to determine whether Oxley's bound is best possible.
We show that this is not the case, but propose a closely related bound that deviates from Oxley's long-standing one only for small values of $m$. We prove that this new bound is best possible. The bound contains Mader's bound as special case.

An $(r-1,1)$-coloring of an $r$-regular graph $G$ is an edge coloring such that each vertex is incident to $r-1$ edges of one color and $1$ edge of a different color. In this paper, we completely characterize all $4$-regular pseudographs (graphs that may contain parallel edges and loops) which do not have a $(3,1)$-coloring. An $\{r-1,1\}$-factor of an $r$-regular graph is a spanning subgraph in which each vertex has degree either $r-1$ or $1$. We prove various conditions that that must hold for any vertex-minimal $5$-regular pseudographs without $(4,1)$-colorings or without $\{4,1\}$-factors. Finally, for each $r\geq 6$ we construct graphs that are not $(r-1,1)$-colorable and, more generally, are not $(r-t,t)$-colorable for small $t$.

In this paper, for a graph G and a family of partitions P of vertex neighborhoods of G, we define the general corona G \circ P of G. Among several properties of this new operation, we focus on application general coronas to a new kind of characterization of trees with the domination subdivision number equal to 3.

We consider a simple Preferential Attachment graph process, which begins with a finite graph, and in which a new $(t+1)$st vertex is added at each subsequent time step $t$, and connected to each previous vertex $u \leq t$ with probability $\frac{d_u(t)}{t}$ where $d_u(t)$ is the degree of $u$ at time $t$. We analyse the graph obtained as the infinite limit of this process, and show that so long as the initial finite graph is neither edgeless nor complete, with probability 1 the outcome will be a copy of the Rado graph augmented with a finite number of either isolated or universal vertices.

We analyse properties of geometric intersection graphs to show the strict containment between some natural classes of geometric intersection graphs. In particular, we show the following properties:
- A graph $G$ is outerplanar if and only if the 1-subdivision of $G$ is outer-segment.
- For each integer $k\ge 1$, the class of intersection graphs of segments with $k$ different lengths is a strict subclass of the class of intersection graphs of segments with $k+1$ different lengths.
- For each integer $k\ge 1$, the class of intersection graphs of disks with $k$ different sizes is a strict subclass of the class of intersection graphs of disks with $k+1$ different sizes.
- The class of outer-segment graphs is a strict subclass of the class of outer-string graphs.
On chromatic functors and stable partitions of graphs

The chromatic functor of a simple graph is a functorization of the chromatic polynomial. M. Yoshinaga showed in \cite{Yoshinaga2015} that two finite graphs have isomorphic chromatic functors if and only if they have the same chromatic polynomial. The key ingredient in the proof is the use of stable partitions of graphs. The latter is shown to be closely related to chromatic functors. In this note, we further investigate some interesting properties of chromatic functors associated to simple graphs using stable partitions. Our first result is the determination of the group of natural automorphisms of the chromatic functor, which is in general a larger group than the automorphism group of the graph. The second result is that the composition of the chromatic functor associated to a finite graph restricted to the category $\mathrm{FI}$ of finite sets and injections with the free functor into the category of complex vector spaces yields a consistent sequence of representations of symmetric groups which is representation stable in the sense of Church-Farb \cite{Church2013}.
The Signed Positive Semidefinite Matrix Completion Problem for Odd-$K_4$ Minor Free Signed Graphs
We give a signed generalization of Laurent's theorem that characterizes feasible positive semidefinite matrix completion problems in terms of metric polytopes. Based on this result, we give a characterization of the maximum rank completions of the signed positive semidefinite matrix completion problem for odd-$K_4$ minor free signed graphs. The analysis can also be used to bound the minimum rank over the completions and to characterize uniquely solvable completion problems for odd-$K_4$ minor free signed graphs. As a corollary we derive a characterization of the universal rigidity of odd-$K_4$ minor free spherical tensegrities, and also a characterization of signed graphs whose signed Colin de Verdière parameter $ν$ is bounded by two, recently shown by Arav et al.
