Metric properties of incomparability graphs with an emphasis on paths

We describe some metric properties of incomparability graphs. We consider the problem of the existence of infinite paths, either induced or isometric, in the incomparability graph of a poset. Among other things, we show that if the incomparability graph of a poset is connected and has infinite diameter, then it contains an infinite induced path. Furthermore, if the diameter of the set of vertices of degree at least $3$ is infinite, then the graph contains as an induced subgraph either a comb or a kite.
Double scaling limit for the $O(N)^3$-invariant tensor model

We study the double scaling limit of the $O(N)^3$-invariant tensor model, initially introduced in Carrozza and Tanasa, Lett. Math. Phys. (2016). This model has an interacting part containing two types of quartic invariants, the tetrahedric and the pillow one. For the 2-point function, we rewrite the sum over Feynman graphs at each order in the $1/N$ expansion as a \emph{finite} sum, where the summand is a function of the generating series of melons and chains (a.k.a. ladders). The graphs which are the most singular in the continuum limit are characterized at each order in the $1/N$ expansion. This leads to a double scaling limit which picks up contributions from all orders in the $1/N$ expansion. In contrast with matrix models, but similarly to previous double scaling limits in tensor models, this double scaling limit is summable. The tools used in order to prove our results are combinatorial, namely a thorough diagrammatic analysis of Feynman graphs, as well as an analysis of the singularities of the relevant generating series.
A tight $Q$-index condition for a graph to be $k$-path-coverable involving minimum degree
A graph $G$ is $k$-path-coverable if its vertex set $V(G)$ can be covered by $k$ or fewer vertex disjoint paths. In this paper, using the $Q$-index of a connected graph $G$, we present a tight sufficient condition for $G$ with fixed minimum degree and large order to be $k$-path-coverable.

We prove an upper bound on the number of pairwise strongly cospectral vertices in a normal Cayley graph, in terms of the multiplicities of its eigenvalues. We use this to determine an explicit bound in Cayley graphs of $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$ and $\mathbb{Z}_4^d$. We also provide some infinite families of Cayley graphs of $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$ with a set of four pairwise strongly cospectral vertices and show that such graphs exist in every dimension.
A note on Goldberg's conjecture on total chromatic numbers

Let $G=(V(G), E(G))$ be a multigraph with maximum degree $Δ(G)$, chromatic index $χ'(G)$ and total chromatic number $χ''(G)$. The Total Coloring conjecture proposed by Behzad and Vizing, independently, states that $χ''(G)\leq Δ(G)+μ(G) +1$ for a multigraph $G$, where $μ(G)$ is the multiplicity of $G$. Moreover,
Goldberg conjectured that $χ''(G)=χ'(G)$ if $χ'(G)\geq Δ(G)+3$ and noticed the conjecture holds when $G$ is an edge-chromatic critical graph. By assuming the Goldberg-Seymour conjecture, we show that $χ''(G)=χ'(G)$ if $χ'(G)\geq \max\{ Δ(G)+2, |V(G)|+1\}$ in this note. Consequently, $χ''(G) = χ'(G)$ if $χ'(G) \ge Δ(G) +2$ and $G$ has a spanning edge-chromatic critical subgraph.
Perfect state transfer in Grover walks between states associated to vertices of a graph

We study perfect state transfer in Grover walks, which are typical discrete-time quantum walk models. In particular, we focus on states associated to vertices of a graph. We call such states vertex type states. Perfect state transfer between vertex type states can be studied via Chebyshev polynomials. We derive a necessary condition on eigenvalues of a graph for perfect state transfer between vertex type states to occur. In addition, we perfectly determine the complete multipartite graphs whose partite sets are the same size on which perfect state transfer occurs between vertex type states, together with the time.
Non-Abelian Flows in Networks
In this work we consider a generalization of graph flows. A graph flow is, in its simplest formulation, a labeling of the directed edges with real numbers subject to various constraints. A common constraint is conservation in a vertex, meaning that the sum of the labels on the incoming edges of this vertex equals the sum of those on the outgoing edges. One easy fact is that if a flow is conserving in all but one vertex, then it is also conserving in the remaining one. In our generalization we do not label the edges with real numbers, but with elements from an arbitrary group, where this fact becomes false in general. As we will show, graphs with the property that conservation of a flow in all but one vertex implies conservation in all vertices are precisely the planar graphs.
Minimal graphs for contractible and dismantlable properties

The notion of a contractible transformation on a graph was introduced by Ivashchenko as a means to study molecular spaces arising from digital topology and computer image analysis, and more recently has been applied to topological data analysis. Contractible transformations involve a list of four elementary moves that can be performed on the vertices and edges of a graph, and it has been shown by Chen, Yau, and Yeh that these moves preserve the simple homotopy type of the underlying clique complex. A graph is said to be ${\mathcal I}$-contractible if one can reduce it to a single isolated vertex via a sequence of contractible transformations. Inspired by the notions of collapsible and non-evasive simplicial complexes, in this paper we study certain subclasses of ${\mathcal I}$-contractible graphs where one can collapse to a vertex using only a subset of these moves. Our main results involve constructions of minimal examples of graphs for which the resulting classes differ. We also relate these classes of graphs to the notion of $k$-dismantlable graphs and $k$-collapsible complexes, which also leads to a minimal counterexample to an erroneous claim of Ivashchenko from the literature. We end with some open questions.
Construction of $k$-matchings and $k$-regular subgraphs in graph products

A $k$-matching $M$ of a graph $G=(V,E)$ is a subset $M\subseteq E$ such that each connected component in the subgraph $F = (V,M)$ of $G$ is either a single-vertex graph or $k$-regular, i.e., each vertex has degree $k$. In this contribution, we are interested in $k$-matchings within the four standard graph products: the Cartesian, strong, direct and lexicographic product.
As we shall see, the problem of finding non-empty $k$-matchings ($k\geq 3$) in graph products is NP-complete. Due to the general intractability of this problem, we focus on distinct polynomial-time constructions of $k$-matchings in a graph product $G\star H$ that are based on $k_G$-matchings $M_G$ and $k_H$-matchings $M_H$ of its factors $G$ and $H$, respectively. In particular, we are interested in properties of the factors that have to be satisfied such that these constructions yield a maximum $k$-matching in the respective products. Such constructions are also called "well-behaved" and we provide several characterizations for this type of $k$-matchings.
Our specific constructions of $k$-matchings in graph products satisfy the property of being weak-homomorphism preserving, i.e., constructed matched edges in the product are never "projected" to unmatched edges in the factors. This leads to the concept of weak-homomorphism preserving $k$-matchings. Although the specific $k$-matchings constructed here are not always maximum $k$-matchings of the products, they have always maximum size among all weak-homomorphism preserving $k$-matchings. Not all weak-homomorphism preserving $k$-matchings, however, can be constructed in our manner. We will, therefore, determine the size of maximum-sized elements among all weak-homomorphims preserving $k$-matching within the respective graph products, provided that the matchings in the factors satisfy some general assumptions.
Autonomous Domination
The well-known notion of domination in a graph abstracts the idea of protecting locations with guards. This paper introduces a new graph invariant, the autonomous domination number, which abstracts the idea of defending a collection of locations with autonomous agents following a simple protocol to coordinate their defense using only local information.
On non-normal subgroup perfect codes
Let $X = (V,E)$ be a graph. A subset $C \subseteq V(X)$ is a \emph{perfect code} of $X$ if $C$ is a coclique of $X$ with the property that any vertex in $V(X)\setminus C$ is adjacent to exactly one vertex in $C$. Given a finite group $G$ with identity element $e$ and $H\leq G$, $H$ is a \emph{subgroup perfect code} of $G$ if there exists an inverse-closed subset $S \subseteq G\setminus \{e\}$ such that $H$ is a perfect code of the Cayley graph $\operatorname{Cay}(G,S)$ of $G$ with connection set $S$. In this short note, we give an infinite family of finite groups $G$ admitting a non-normal subgroup perfect code $H$ such that there exists $ g\in G$ with $g^2\in H$ but $(gh)^2 \neq e$, for all $h \in H$; thus, answering a question raised by Wang, Xia, and Zhou in [Perfect sets in Cayley graphs. {\it arXiv preprint} arXiv:2006.05100, 2020].

For a non-negative integer $s\le |V(G)|-3$, a graph $G$ is $s$-Hamiltonian if the removal of any $k\le s$ vertices results in a Hamiltonian graph. Given a connected simple graph $G$ that is not isomorphic to a path, a cycle, or a $K_{1,3}$, let $δ(G)$ denote the minimum degree of $G$, let $h_s(G)$ denote the smallest integer $i$ such that the iterated line graph $L^{i}(G)$ is $s$-Hamiltonian, and let $\ell(G)$ denote the length of the longest non-closed path $P$ in which all internal vertices have degree 2 such that $P$ is not both of length 2 and in a $K_3$. For a simple graph $G$, we establish better upper bounds for $h_s(G)$ as follows. \begin{equation*} h_s(G)\le \left\{ \begin{aligned} & \ell(G)+1, &&\mbox{ if }δ(G)\le 2 \mbox{ and }s=0;\\ & \widetilde d(G)+2+\lceil \lg (s+1)\rceil, &&\mbox{ if }δ(G)\le 2 \mbox{ and }s\ge 1;\\ & 2+\left\lceil\lg\frac{s+1}{δ(G)-2}\right\rceil, && \mbox{ if } 3\leδ(G)\le s+2;\\ & 2, &&{\rm otherwise}, \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} where $\widetilde d(G)$ is the smallest integer $i$ such that $δ(L^i(G))\ge 3$. Consequently, when $s \ge 6$, this new upper bound for the $s$-hamiltonian index implies that $h_s(G) = o(\ell(G)+s+1)$ as $s \to \infty$. This sharpens the result, $h_s(G)\le\ell(G)+s+1$, obtained by Zhang et al. in [Discrete Math., 308 (2008) 4779-4785].

For a fixed graph $F,$ the minimum number of edges in an edge-maximal $F$-free subgraph of $G$ is called the $F$-saturation number. The asymptotics of the $F$-saturation number of the binomial random graph $G(n,p)$ for constant $p\in(0,1)$ is known for complete graphs $F=K_m$ and stars $F=K_{1,m}.$ This paper is devoted to the case when the pattern graph $F$ is a simple cycle $C_m.$ We prove that, for $m\geqslant 5,$ whp $\mathrm{sat}\left(G\left(n,p\right),C_m\right) = n+Θ\left(\frac{n}{\ln n}\right).$ Also we find $c=c(p)$ such that whp $\frac{3}{2}n(1+o(1))\leqslant\mathrm{sat}\left(G\left(n,p\right),C_4\right)\leqslant cn(1+o(1)).$ In particular, whp $\mathrm{sat}\left(G\left(n,\frac{1}{2}\right),C_4\right)\leqslant\frac{27}{14}n(1+o(1)).$
Partition models, Permutations of infinite sets without fixed points, and weak forms of AC
We study new relations of the following statements with weak choice principles in ZF and ZFA. 1. There does not exist an infinite Hausdorff space X such that every infinite subset of X contains an infinite compact subset. 2. If a field has an algebraic closure then it is unique up to isomorphism. 3. For every infinite set X, there exists a permutation of X without fixed points. Moreover, we prove that the principle ``Any infinite locally finite connected graph has a spanning m-bush for any even integer m greater than or equal to 4'' is equivalent to Kőnig's Lemma in ZF. We also study the new status of different weak choice principles in the finite partition model (a type of permutation model) introduced by B.B. Bruce in 2016. Further, we prove that Van Douwen's Choice Principle holds in two recently constructed known permutation models.

Among subgraphs with a fixed number of vertices of the regular square lattice, we prove inequalities that essentially say that those with smaller boundaries have larger numbers of spanning trees and vice-versa. As an application, we relate two commonly used measurements of the compactness of district maps.

In 1981, Erdős and Simonovits conjectured that for any bipartite graph $H$ we have $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)=O(n^{3/2})$ if and only if $H$ is $2$-degenerate. Later, Erdős offered 250 dollars for a proof and 500 dollars for a counterexample. In this paper, we disprove the conjecture by finding, for any $\varepsilon>0$, a $3$-regular bipartite graph $H$ with $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)=O(n^{4/3+\varepsilon})$.
Enumerating independent sets in Abelian Cayley graphs
We show that any connected Cayley graph $Γ$ on an Abelian group of order $2n$ and degree $\tildeΩ(\log n)$ has at most $2^{n+1}(1 + o(1))$ independent sets. This bound is tight up to to the $o(1)$ term when $Γ$ is bipartite. Our proof is based on Sapozhenko's graph container method and uses the Plünnecke-Rusza-Petridis inequality from additive combinatorics.
Upper tail of the spectral radius of sparse Erdős-Rényi graphs

We consider an Erdős-Rényi graph $\mathbb{G}(n,p)$ on $n$ vertices with edge probability $p$ such that \[ \sqrt{\frac{\log n}{\log \log n}} \ll np \le n^{1/2-o(1)}, \label{eq:abs} \tag{$\dagger$} \] and derive the upper tail large deviations of $λ(\mathbb{G}(n,p))$, the largest eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix. Within this regime we show that, for $p \gg n^{-2/3}$ the $\log$-probability of the upper tail event of $λ(\mathbb{G}(n,p))$ equals to that of planting a clique of an appropriate size (upon ignoring smaller order terms), while for $p \ll n^{-2/3}$ the same is given by that of the existence of a high degree vertex. This, in particular, shows an emergence of {\em non-planted localized structure} in the latter regime. We also confirm that in the entire regime \eqref{eq:abs} the large deviation probability is asymptotically approximated by the solution of the mean-field variational problem, and further identify the typical structure of $\mathbb{G}(n,p)$ conditioned on the upper tail event of $λ(\mathbb{G}(n,p))$ in a certain sub-regime of $p$.
For $p$ such that $\log(np) \gtrsim \log n$ the large deviations of $λ(\mathbb{G}(n,p))$ is deduced from those of ${\rm Hom}(C_{2t}, \mathbb{G}(n,p))$, the homomorphism counts of cycle of length $2t$, for $t \ge 3$ and $p$ such that $n^{1/2-o(1)} \ge np \gg n^{1/t}$. In this latter regime the typical structure of $\mathbb{G}(n,p)$ conditioned on the upper tail of ${\rm Hom}(C_{2t}, \mathbb{G}(n,p))$ is identified and asymptotic tightness of the mean-field approximation is also established.
A bound for the $p$-domination number of a graph in terms of its eigenvalue multiplicities

Let $G$ be a connected graph of order $n$ with domination number $γ(G)$. Wang, Yan, Fang, Geng and Tian [Linear Algebra Appl. 607 (2020), 307-318] showed that for any Laplacian eigenvalue $λ$ of $G$ with multiplicity $m_G(λ)$, it holds that $γ(G)\leq n-m_G(λ)$. Using techniques from the theory of star sets, in this work we prove that the same bound holds when $λ$ is an arbitrary adjacency eigenvalue of a non-regular graph, and we characterize the cases of equality. Moreover, we show a result that gives a relationship between start sets and the $p$-domination number, and we apply it to extend the aforementioned spectral bound to the $p$-domination number using the adjacency and Laplacian eigenvalue multiplicities.

We define two symmetric $q,t$-Catalan polynomials in terms of the area and depth statistic and in terms of the dinv and dinv of depth statistics. We prove symmetry using an involution on plane trees. The same involution proves symmetry of the Tutte polynomials. We also provide a combinatorial proof of a remark by Garsia et al. regarding parking functions and the number of connected graphs on a fixed number of vertices.
