Bipartite Biregular Cages and Block Designs
A bipartite biregular $(n,m;g)$-graph $G$ is a bipartite graph of even girth $g$ having the degree set $\{n,m\}$ and satisfying the additional property that the vertices in the same partite set have the same degree. An $(n,m;g)$-bipartite biregular cage is a bipartite biregular $(n,m;g)$-graph of minimum order. In their 2019 paper, Filipovski, Ramos-Rivera and Jajcay present lower bounds on the orders of bipartite biregular $(n,m;g)$-graphs, and call the graphs that attain these bounds {\em bipartite biregular Moore cages}.
In parallel with the well-known classical results relating the existence of $k$-regular Moore graphs of even girths $g = 6,8 $ and $12$ to the existence of projective planes, generalized quadrangles, and generalized hexagons, we prove that the existence of $S(2,k,v)$-Steiner systems yields the existence of bipartite biregular $(k,\frac{v-1}{k-1};6)$-Moore cages. Moreover, in the special case of Steiner triple systems (i.e., in the case $k=3$), we completely solve the problem of the existence of $(3,m;6)$-bipartite biregular cages for all integers $m\geq 4$.
Considering girths higher than $6$ and prime powers $s$, we relate the existence of generalized polygons (quadrangles, hexagons and octagons) with the existence of $(n+1,n^2+1;8)$, $(n+1,n^3+1;12)$, and $(n+1,n^2+1;16)$-bipartite biregular Moore cages, respectively. Using this connection, we derive improved upper bounds for the orders of bipartite biregular cages of girths $8$, $12$ and $14$.
On Total Domination and Minimum Maximal Matchings in Graphs
A subset $M$ of the edges of a graph $G$ is a matching if no two edges in $M$ are incident. A maximal matching is a matching that is not contained in a larger matching. A subset $S$ of vertices of a graph $G$ with no isolated vertices is a total dominating set of $G$ if every vertex of $G$ is adjacent to at least one vertex in $S$. Let $μ^*(G)$ and $γ_t(G)$ be the minimum cardinalities of a maximal matching and a total dominating set in $G$, respectively. Let $δ(G)$ denote the minimum degree in graph $G$. We observe that $γ_t(G)\leq 2μ^*(G)$ when $1\leq δ(G)\leq 2$ and $γ_t(G)\leq 2μ^*(G)-δ(G)+2$ when $δ(G)\geq 3$. We show that the upper bound for the total domination number is tight for every fixed $δ(G)$. We provide a constructive characterization of graphs $G$ satisfying $γ_t(G)= 2μ^*(G)$ and a polynomial time procedure to determine whether $γ_t(G) = 2μ^*(G)$ for a graph $G$ with minimum degree two.
Edge-partitioning 3-edge-connected graphs into paths
We show that for every l, there exists d_l such that every 3-edge-connected graph with minimum degree d_l can be edge-partitioned into paths of length l (provided that its number of edges is divisible by l). This improves a result asserting that 24-edge-connectivity and high minimum degree provides such a partition. This is best possible as 3-edge-connectivity cannot be replaced by 2-edge connectivity.

For a graph $H$, let $c(H)=\inf\{c\,:\,e(G)\geq c|G| \mbox{ implies } G\succ H\,\}$, where $G\succ H$ means that $H$ is a minor of $G$. We show that if $H$ has average degree $d$, then $$ c(H)\le (0.319\ldots+o_d(1))|H|\sqrt{\log d} $$ where $0.319\ldots$ is an explicitly defined constant. This bound matches a corresponding lower bound shown to hold for almost all such $H$ by Norin, Reed, Wood and the first author.
On maximal isolation sets in the uniform intersection matrix
Let $A_{k,t}$ be the matrix that represents the adjacency matrix of the intersection bipartite graph of all subsets of size $t$ of $\{1,2,...,k\}$. We give constructions of large isolation sets in $A_{k,t}$, where, for a large enough $k$, our constructions are the best possible.
We first prove that the largest identity submatrix in $A_{k,t}$ is of size $k-2t+2$. Then we provide constructions of isolations sets in $A_{k,t}$ for any $t\geq 2$, as follows: \begin{itemize} \item If $k = 2t+r$ and $0 \leq r \leq 2t-3$, there exists an isolation set of size $2r+3 = 2k-4t+3$. \item If $k \geq 4t-3$, there exists an isolation set of size $k$. \end{itemize} The construction is maximal for $k\geq 4t-3$, since the Boolean rank of $A_{k,t}$ is $k$ in this case. As we prove, the construction is maximal also for $k = 2t, 2t+1$.
Finally, we consider the problem of the maximal triangular isolation submatrix of $A_{k,t}$ that has ones in every entry on the main diagonal and below it, and zeros elsewhere. We give an optimal construction of such a submatrix of size $({2t \choose t}-1) \times ({2t \choose t}-1)$, for any $t \geq 1$ and a large enough $k$. This construction is tight, as there is a matching upper bound, which can be derived from a theorem of Frankl about skew matrices.
Partition of a Subset into Two Directed Cycles with Partial Degrees
Let $D=(V,A)$ be a directed graph of order $n\geq 6$. Let $W$ be a subset of $V$ with $|W|\geq 6$. Suppose that every vertex of $W$ has degree at least $(3n-3)/2$ in $D$. Then for any integer partition $|W|=n_1+n_2$ with $n_1\geq 3$ and $n_2\geq 3$, $D$ contains two disjoint directed cycles $C_1$ and $C_2$ such that $|V(C_1)\cap W|=n_1$ and $|V(C_2)\cap W|=n_2$. We conjecture that for any integer partition $|W|=n_1+n_2+\cdots +n_k$ with $k\geq 3$ and $n_i\geq 3(1\leq i\leq k)$, $D$ contains $k$ disjoint directed cycles $C_1,C_2,\ldots , C_k$ such that $|V(C_i)\cap W|=n_i$ for all $1\leq i\leq k$. The degree condition is sharp in general.

This is a survey on the combinatorics and geometry of integrable representations of quantum affine Lie algebras with a particular focus on level 0. Pictures and examples are included to illustrate the affine Weyl group orbits, crystal graphs and Macdonald polynomials that provide detailed understanding of the structure of the extremal weight modules and their characters. The final section surveys the alcove walk method of working with the positive level, negative level and level zero affine flag varieties and describes the corresponding actions of the affine Hecke algebra.
Construction of double coset system of a Coxeter group and its applications to Bruhat graphs
We develop combinatorics of parabolic double cosets in finite Coxeter groups as a follow-up of recent articles by Billey-Konvalinka-Petersen-Slofstra-Tenner and Petersen. (1) We construct a double coset system as a generalization of a two-sided analogue of a Coxeter complex and present its order structure with its local dimension function on certain connected components. As applications of double cosets to Bruhat graphs, we also prove: (2) every parabolic double coset is regular, (3) invariance of degree on Bruhat graph on lower intervals as an analogy of the one for Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, (4) every noncritical Bruhat interval satisfies out-Eulerian property.

By establishing relations between operators on compositions, we show that the posets of compositions arising from the right and left Pieri rules for noncommutative Schur functions can each be endowed with both the structure of dual graded graphs and dual filtered graphs when paired with the poset of compositions arising from the Pieri rules for quasisymmetric Schur functions and its deformation.
Polylogarithmic-Time Deterministic Network Decomposition and Distributed Derandomization
We present a simple polylogarithmic-time deterministic distributed algorithm for network decomposition. This improves on a celebrated $2^{O(\sqrt{\log n})}$-time algorithm of Panconesi and Srinivasan [STOC'92] and settles a central and long-standing question in distributed graph algorithms. It also leads to the first polylogarithmic-time deterministic distributed algorithms for numerous other problems, hence resolving several well-known and decades-old open problems, including Linial's question about the deterministic complexity of maximal independent set [FOCS'87; SICOMP'92]---which had been called the most outstanding problem in the area.
The main implication is a more general distributed derandomization theorem: Put together with the results of Ghaffari, Kuhn, and Maus [STOC'17] and Ghaffari, Harris, and Kuhn [FOCS'18], our network decomposition implies that $$\mathsf{P}\textit{-}\mathsf{RLOCAL} = \mathsf{P}\textit{-}\mathsf{LOCAL}.$$ That is, for any problem whose solution can be checked deterministically in polylogarithmic-time, any polylogarithmic-time randomized algorithm can be derandomized to a polylogarithmic-time deterministic algorithm. Informally, for the standard first-order interpretation of efficiency as polylogarithmic-time, distributed algorithms do not need randomness for efficiency.
By known connections, our result leads also to substantially faster randomized distributed algorithms for a number of well-studied problems including $(Δ+1)$-coloring, maximal independent set, and Lovász Local Lemma, as well as massively parallel algorithms for $(Δ+1)$-coloring.

The weak $r$-coloring numbers $wcol_r(G)$ of a graph $G$ were introduced by the first two authors as a generalization of the usual coloring number $col(G)$, and have since found interesting theoretical and algorithmic applications. This has motivated researchers to establish strong bounds on these parameters for various classes of graphs.
Let $G^p$ denote the $p$-th power of $G$. We show that, all integers $p >0$ and $Δ\ge 3$ and graphs $G$ with $Δ(G) \leq Δ$ satisfy $col(G^p) \in O(p \cdot wcol_{\lceil p/2\rceil}(G)(Δ-1)^{\lfloor p/2\rfloor})$; for fixed tree width or fixed genus the ratio between this upper bound and worst case lower bounds is polynomial in $p$. For the square of graphs $G$, we also show that, if the maximum average degree $2k-2 < mad(G) \leq 2k$, then $ col(G^2) \leq (2k-1)Δ(G)+2k+1$.
First and Second Maximum of Randić Index Among all $k-$Cyclic Graphs of a Given Order
Suppose $G$ is a simple graph with edge set $E(G)$. The Randić index $R(G)$ is defined as $R(G)=\sum_{uv\in E(G)}\frac{1}{\sqrt{deg_{G}(u)deg_{G}(v)}}$, where $deg_G(u)$ denotes the vertex degree of $u$ in $G$. In this paper, the first and second maximum of Randić index among all $n-$vertex $k-$cyclic graphs were computed.

In a graph $G$, a vertex dominates itself and its neighbors. A subset $D \subseteq V(G)$ is a double dominating set of $G$ if $D$ dominates every vertex of $G$ at least twice. A signed graph $Σ= (G,σ)$ is a graph $G$ together with an assignment $σ$ of positive or negative signs to all its edges. A cycle in a signed graph is positive if the product of its edge signs is positive. A signed graph is balanced if all its cycles are positive. A subset $D \subseteq V(Σ)$ is a double dominating set of $Σ$ if it satisfies the following conditions: (i) $D$ is a double dominating set of $G$, and (ii) $Σ[D:V \setminus D]$ is balanced, where $Σ[D:V \setminus D]$ is the subgraph of $Σ$ induced by the edges of $Σ$ with one end point in $D$ and the other end point in $V \setminus D$. The cardinality of a minimum double dominating set of $Σ$ is the double domination number $γ_{\times 2}(Σ)$. In this paper, we give bounds for the double domination number of signed cubic graphs. We also obtain some bounds on the double domination number of signed generalized Petersen graphs and signed I-graphs.
Good sequencings for small directed triple systems
A directed triple system of order $v$ (or, DTS$(v)$) is a decomposition of the complete directed graph $\vec{K_v}$ into transitive triples. An $\ell$-good sequencing of a DTS$(v)$ is a permutation of the points of the design, say $[x_1 \; \cdots \; x_v]$, such that, for every triple $(x,y,z)$ in the design, it is $not$ the case that $x = x_i$, $y = x_j$ and $z = x_k$ with $i < j < k$ and $k-i+1 \leq \ell$. In this report we provide a maximum $\ell$-good sequencing for each DTS$(v)$, $v \leq 7$.
Huang's theorem and the exterior algebra
In this note we give a version of Hao Huang's proof of the sensitivity conjecture, shedding some light on the origin of the magical matrix $A$ in that proof. For the history of the subject and the importance of this conjecture to the study of boolean functions, we refer to the original paper. Here we only state the main result: Consider the boolean cube $Q_n=\{0,1\}^n$ as a graph, whose edges connect pairs of vertices differing in one coordinate. Then any its induced subgraph on greater than $2^{n-1}$ (the half) vertices has degree of some vertex at least $\sqrt{n}$.

A directed triple system of order $v$ (or, DTS$(v)$) is decomposition of the complete directed graph $\vec{K_v}$ into transitive triples. A $v$-good sequencing of a DTS$(v)$ is a permutation of the points of the design, say $[x_1 \; \cdots \; x_v]$, such that, for every triple $(x,y,z)$ in the design, it is not the case that $x = x_i$, $y = x_j$ and $z = x_k$ with $i < j < k$. We prove that there exists a DTS$(v)$ having a $v$-good sequencing for all positive integers $v \equiv 0,1 \bmod {3}$. Further, for all positive integers $v \equiv 0,1 \bmod {3}$, $v \geq 7$, we prove that there is a DTS$(v)$ that does not have a $v$-good sequencing. We also derive some computational results concerning $v$-good sequencings of all the nonisomorphic DTS$(v)$ for $v \leq 7$.
The contraction category of graphs

We study the category whose objects are graphs of fixed genus and whose morphisms are contractions. We show that the corresponding contravariant module categories are Noetherian and we study two families of modules over these categories. The first takes a graph to a graded piece of the homology of its unordered configuration space and the second takes a graph to an intersection homology group whose dimension is given by a Kazhdan-Lusztig coefficient; in both cases we prove that the module is finitely generated. This allows us to draw conclusions about torsion in the homology groups of graph configuration spaces, and about the growth of Betti numbers of graph configuration spaces and Kazhdan-Lusztig coefficients of graphical matroids. We also explore the relationship between our category and outer space, which is used in the study of outer automorphisms of free groups.
Strongly Chordal Graph Generation using Intersection Graph Characterisation
Strongly chordal graphs are a subclass of chordal graphs. Farber also established a number of different characterisations for this class of graphs. These include an intersection graph characterisation that is analogous to a similar characterisation for chordal graphs. Seker et al. exploited this characterisation of chordal graphs to obtain an algorithm for generating them. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to show that strongly chordal graphs can also be generated using their intersection graph characterisation.

Associated to a graph $G$ is a set $\mathcal{S}(G)$ of all real-valued symmetric matrices whose off-diagonal entries are nonzero precisely when the corresponding vertices of the graph are adjacent, and the diagonal entries are free to be chosen. If $G$ has $n$ vertices, then the multiplicities of the eigenvalues of any matrix in $\mathcal{S}(G)$ partition $n$; this is called a multiplicity partition.
We study graphs for which a multiplicity partition with only two integers is possible. The graphs $G$ for which there is a matrix in $\mathcal{S}(G)$ with partitions $[n-2,2]$ have been characterized. We find families of graphs $G$ for which there is a matrix in $\mathcal{S}(G)$ with multiplicity partition $[n-k,k]$ for $k\geq 2$. We focus on generalizations of the complete multipartite graphs. We provide some methods to construct families of graphs with given multiplicity partitions starting from smaller such graphs. We also give constructions for graphs with matrix in $\mathcal{S}(G)$ with multiplicity partition $[n-k,k]$ to show the complexities of characterizing these graphs.

The Aldous--Broder algorithm provides a way of sampling a uniformly random spanning tree for finite connected graphs using simple random walk. Namely, start a simple random walk on a connected graph and stop at the cover time. The tree formed by all the first-entrance edges has the law of a uniform spanning tree. Here we show that the tree formed by all the last-exit edges also has the law of a uniform spanning tree. This answers a question of Tom Hayes and Cris Moore from 2010. The proof relies on a bijection that is related to the BEST theorem in graph theory. We also give other applications of our results, including new proofs of the reversibility of loop-erased random walk, of the Aldous--Broder algorithm itself, and of Wilson's algorithm.
