Concerning Some Properties of Signed Graphs Associated With Specific Graphs
Two signed graphs are called switching isomorphic if one of them is isomorphic to a switching equivalent of the other. To determine the number of switching non-isomorphic signed graphs on a specific graph, we will establish a method based on the action of its automorphism group. As an application and computational results, we classify all the switching non-isomorphic signed graphs arising from the complete graph K5 and the generalized Petersen graph GP(7; 2). Moreover, some results on the automorphism groups of the target signed graphs are obtained.

We define a class of amenable Weyl group elements in the Lie types B, C, and D, which we propose as the analogues of vexillary permutations in these Lie types. Our amenable signed permutations index flagged theta and eta polynomials, which generalize the double theta and eta polynomials of Wilson and the author. In geometry, we obtain corresponding formulas for the cohomology classes of symplectic and orthogonal degeneracy loci.

The magnetic Laplacian (also called the line bundle Laplacian) on a connected weighted graph is a self-adjoint operator wherein the real-valued adjacency weights are replaced by unit complex-valued weights $\{ω_{xy}\}_{xy\in E}$, satisfying the condition that $ω_{xy}=\overline{ω_{yx}}$ for every directed edge $xy$. When properly interpreted, these complex weights give rise to magnetic fluxes through cycles in the graph.
In this paper we establish the spectrum of the magnetic Laplacian, as a set of real numbers with multiplicities, on the Sierpinski gasket graph ($SG$) where the magnetic fluxes equal $α$ through the upright triangles, and $β$ through the downright triangles. This is achieved upon showing the spectral self-similarity of the magnetic Laplacian via a 3-parameter map $\mathcal{U}$ involving non-rational functions, which takes into account $α$, $β$, and the spectral parameter $λ$. In doing so we provide a quantitative answer to a question of Bellissard [Renormalization Group Analysis and Quasicrystals (1992)] on the relationship between the dynamical spectrum and the actual magnetic spectrum.
Our main theorems lead to two applications. In the case $α=β$, we demonstrate the approximation of the magnetic spectrum by the filled Julia set of $\mathcal{U}$, the Sierpinski gasket counterpart to Hofstadter's butterfly. Meanwhile, in the case $α,β\in \{0,\frac{1}{2}\}$, we can compute the determinant of the magnetic Laplacian determinant and the corresponding asymptotic complexity.

We show that the cop number of directed and undirected Cayley graphs on abelian groups has an upper bound of the form of $O(\sqrt{n})$, where $n$ is the number of vertices, by introducing a refined inductive method. With our method, we improve the previous upper bound on cop number for undirected Cayley graphs on abelian groups, and we establish an upper bound on the cop number of directed Cayley graphs on abelian groups. We also use Cayley graphs on abelian groups to construct new \emph{Meyniel extremal families}, which contain graphs of every order $n$ with cop number $Θ(\sqrt{n})$.
Regularity of S_n-invariant monomial ideals
For a polynomial ring S in n variables, we consider the natural action of the symmetric group S_n on S by permuting the variables. For an S_n-invariant monomial ideal I in S and j >= 0, we give an explicit recipe for computing the modules Ext^j(S/I,S), and use this to describe the projective dimension and regularity of I. We classify the S_n-invariant monomial ideals that have a linear free resolution, and also characterize those which are Cohen-Macaulay. We then consider two settings for analyzing the asymptotic behavior of regularity: one where we look at powers of a fixed ideal I, and another where we vary the dimension of the ambient polynomial ring and examine the invariant monomial ideals induced by I. In the first case we determine the asymptotic regularity for those ideals I that are generated by the S_n-orbit of a single monomial by solving an integer linear optimization problem. In the second case we describe the behavior of regularity for any I, recovering a recent result of Murai.

We study Wronskians of Hermite polynomials labelled by partitions and use the combinatorial concepts of cores and quotients to derive explicit expressions for their coefficients. These coefficients can be expressed in terms of the characters of irreducible representations of the symmetric group, and also in terms of hook lengths. Further, we derive the asymptotic behaviour of the Wronskian Hermite polynomials when the length of the core tends to infinity, while fixing the quotient. Via this combinatorial setting, we obtain in a natural way the generalization of the correspondence between Hermite and Laguerre polynomials to Wronskian Hermite polynomials and Wronskians involving Laguerre polynomials. Lastly, we generalize most of our results to polynomials that have zeros on the $p$-star.

In this paper, we consider spaces whose Higson coronae are indecomposable continua. We show that for a non-compact proper metric space $X$ which is coarsely geodesic and has coarse bounded geometry, the Higson corona of $X$ is an indecomposable continuum if and only if $X$ is coarsely equivalent to the space of natural numbers. Then we give characterizations of finitely generated groups that have one or two ends by decomposability/indecomposability of the components of their Higson coronae. we characterize it as a group whose Higson corona is a topological sum of two indecomposable continua.

This note will give an enumeration of $n$-cycles in the symmetric group ${\mathcal S}_n$ by their degree (also known as their cyclic descent number) and studies similar counting problems for the conjugacy classes of $n$-cycles under the action of the rotation subgroup of ${\mathcal S}_n$. This is achieved by relating such cycles to periodic orbits of an associated dynamical system acting on the circle. We also compute the mean and variance of the degree of a random $n$-cycle and show that its distribution is asymptotically normal as $n \to \infty$.
Lucas atoms

Given two variables $s$ and $t$, the associated sequence of Lucas polynomials is defined inductively by $\{0\}=0$, $\{1\}=1$, and $\{n\}=s\{n-1\}+t\{n-2\}$ for $n\ge2$. An integer (e.g., a Catalan number) defined by an expression of the form $\prod_i n_i/\prod_j k_j$ has a Lucas analogue obtained by replacing each factor with the corresponding Lucas polynomial. There has been interest in deciding when such expressions, which are a priori only rational functions, are actually polynomials in $s,t$. The approaches so far have been combinatorial. We introduce a powerful algebraic method for answering this question by factoring $\{n\}=\prod_{d|n} P_d(s,t)$, where we call the polynomials $P_d(s,t)$ Lucas atoms. This permits us to show that the Lucas analogues of the Fuss-Catalan and Fuss-Narayana numbers for all irreducible Coxeter groups are polynomials in $s,t$. Using gamma expansions, a technique which has recently become popular in combinatorics and geometry, one can show that the Lucas atoms have a close relationship with cyclotomic polynomials $Φ_d(q)$. Certain results about the $Φ_d(q)$ can then be lifted to Lucas atoms. In particular, one can prove analogues of theorems of Gauss and Lucas, deduce reduction formulas, and evaluate the $P_d(s,t)$ at various specific values of the variables.

An ordering of colours in an Adinkra leads to an embedding of this Adinkra into a Riemann surface $X$, and a branched covering map $β_X:X\to\mathbb{CP}^1$. This paper shows how the dashing of edges in an Adinkra determines a signed permutation version of the monodromy group, and shows that it is isomorphic to a Salingaros Vee group.
Zeta functions of graphs, their symmetries and extended Catalan numbers
In this paper we study spectral zeta functions associated to finite and infinite graphs. First we establish a meromorphic continuation of these functions under some general conditions. Then we study special values in the case of standard lattice graphs associated to free abelian groups. In particular we connect it to Catalan numbers in several ways, and obtain some non-trivial special values and functional symmetries. Furthermore we relate the values at the negative integers with the more studied Ihara zeta functions, and prove a few minor results that seem not to have been recorded before. Finally we consider the characteristic polynomial of the graph Laplacians, and in particular completely determine its coefficients for cyclic graphs using new analytical methods.

We develop a framework to analyse invariant decompositions of elements of tensor product spaces. Namely, we define an invariant decomposition with indices arranged on a simplicial complex, and which is explicitly invariant under a group action. We prove that this decomposition exists for all invariant tensors after possibly enriching the simplicial complex. As a special case we recover tensor networks with translational invariance and the symmetric tensor decomposition. We also define an invariant separable decomposition and purification form, and prove similar existence results. Associated to every decomposition there is a rank, and we prove several inequalities between them. For example, we show by how much the rank increases when imposing invariance in the decomposition, and that the tensor rank is the largest of all ranks. Finally, we apply our framework to nonnegative tensors, where we define a nonnegative and a positive semidefinite decomposition on arbitrary simplicial complexes with group action. We show a correspondence to the previous ranks, and as a very special case recover the nonnegative, the positive semidefinite, the completely positive and the completely positive semidefinite transposed decomposition.
On PM-mapping class monoids
In this paper, we introduce PM-mapping class monoids. Braid groups and mapping class groups have many features in common. Similarly to the notion of braid PM-monoid, PM-mapping class monoid is defined. This construction is an analogy of inverse mapping class monoid defined by R. Karoui and V. V. Vershinin. As the main result, we give the analog of the Dehn-Nilsen-Baer theorem.
The lemmas of Alexander and Sperner
Alexander's lemma is a version of Sperner's lemma published by Alexander two years earlier than Sperner's paper. The present paper is devoted to a modern but elementary exposition of lemmas of Alexander and Sperner and their main topological applications: Brouwer's theorems about the topological invariance of dimension and of domains (here we follow Lebesgue ideas in the form given to them by Sperner), Brouwer's fixed-point theorem, and Alexander's theorem about the topological invariance of homology groups. Along the way we relate the Knaster-Kuratowski-Mazurkiewich argument with the notion of simplicial approximations, provide a cohomological interpretation of Sperner's lemma and of its combinatorial proof, and explain how classical proofs of Sperner's and Alexander's lemma lead to path-following algorithms. The exposition does not assume any knowledge of algebraic topology.

In this paper we further describe the features of the topological space $K(R)$ obtained from the loop nerve of $R$, for $R=(S,T)$ a bi-secondary structure. We will first identify certain distinct combinatorial structures in the arc diagram of $R$ which we will call crossing components. The main theorem of this paper shows that the total number of these crossing components equals the rank of $H_2(R)$, the second homology group of the loop nerve.
A categorification of the Malvenuto--Reutenauer algebra via a tower of groups

There is a long tradition of categorifying combinatorial Hopf algebras by the modules of a tower of algebras (or even better via the representation theory of a tower of groups). From the point of view of combinatorics, such a categorification supplies canonical bases, inner products, and a natural avenue to prove positivity results. Recent ideas in supercharacter theory have made fashioning the representation theory of a tower of groups into a Hopf structure more tractable. This paper applies such a program to the Malvenuto--Reutenauer Hopf algebra. In particular, we design functors on the representation theory of a tower of $p$-groups that realize the Hopf structure of the Malvenuto--Reutenauer algebra in such a way that its well-known fundamental basis corresponds to a supercharacter basis.
On the number of roots of some linearized polynomials

Linearized polynomials appear in many different contexts, such as rank metric codes, cryptography and linear sets, and the main issue regards the characterization of the number of roots from their coefficients. Results of this type have been already proved in [7,10,24]. In this paper we provide bounds and characterizations on the number of roots of linearized polynomials of this form \[ ax+b_0x^σ+b_1x^{σq^n}+b_2x^{σq^{2n}}+\ldots+b_{t-1}x^{σq^{n(t-1)}} \in \mathbb{F}_{q^{nt}}[x], \] with $σ$ a generator of the Galois group $\mathrm{Gal}(\mathbb{F}_{q^n}\colon\mathbb{F}_q)$. Also, we characterize the number of roots of such polynomials directly from their coefficients, dealing with matrices which are much smaller than the relative Dickson matrices and the companion matrices used in the previous papers. Furthermore, we develop a method to find explicitly the roots of a such polynomial by finding the roots of a $q^n$-polynomial. Finally, as an applications of the above results, we present a family of linear sets of the projective line whose points have a small spectrum of possible weights, containing most of the known families of scattered linear sets. In particular, we carefully study the linear sets in $\mathrm{PG}(1,q^6)$ presented in [9].

In their study of the equivariant K-theory of the generalized flag varieties $G/P$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group, and $P$ is a parabolic subgroup of $G$, Lenart and Postnikov introduced a combinatorial tool, called the alcove paths model. It provides a model for the highest weight crystals with dominant integral highest weights, generalizing the model by semistandard Young tableaux. In this paper, we prove a simple and explicit formula describing the crystal isomorphism between the alcove paths model and the Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns model for type $A$.

Let $\mathrm{PG}(3,q)$ be the projective space of dimension three over the finite field with $q$ elements. Consider a twisted cubic in $\mathrm{PG}(3,q)$. The structure of the point-plane incidence matrix in $\mathrm{PG}(3,q)$ with respect to the orbits of points and planes under the action of the stabilizer group of the twisted cubic is described. This information is used to view generalized doubly-extended Reed-Solomon codes of codimension four as asymptotically optimal multiple covering codes.
