We give a new formula for the branching rule from ${\rm GL}_n$ to ${\rm O}_n$ generalizing the Littlewood's restriction formula. The formula is given in terms of Littlewood-Richardson tableaux with certain flag conditions which vanish in a stable range. As an application, we give a combinatorial formula for the Lusztig $t$-weight multiplicity $K_{μ0}(t)$ of type $B_n$ and $D_n$ with highest weight $μ$ and weight $0$.
Partial linear spaces with a rank 3 affine primitive group of automorphisms

A partial linear space is a pair $(\mathcal{P},\mathcal{L})$ where $\mathcal{P}$ is a non-empty set of points and $\mathcal{L}$ is a collection of subsets of $\mathcal{P}$ called lines such that any two distinct points are contained in at most one line, and every line contains at least two points. A partial linear space is proper when it is not a linear space or a graph. A group of automorphisms $G$ of a proper partial linear space acts transitively on ordered pairs of distinct collinear points and ordered pairs of distinct non-collinear points precisely when $G$ is transitive of rank 3 on points. In this paper, we classify the finite proper partial linear spaces that admit rank 3 affine primitive automorphism groups, except for certain families of small groups, including subgroups of $AΓL_1(q)$. Up to these exceptions, this completes the classification of the finite proper partial linear spaces admitting rank 3 primitive automorphism groups. We also provide a more detailed version of the classification of the rank 3 affine primitive permutation groups, which may be of independent interest.
Maximizing the Edelman-Greene statistic

The $\textit{Edelman-Greene statistic}$ of S. Billey-B. Pawlowski measures the "shortness" of the Schur expansion of a Stanley symmetric function. We show that the maximum value of this statistic on permutations of Coxeter length $n$ is the number of involutions in the symmetric group $S_n$, and explicitly describe the permutations that attain this maximum. Our proof confirms a recent conjecture of C. Monical, B. Pankow, and A. Yong: we give an explicit combinatorial injection between a certain collections of Edelman-Greene tableaux and standard Young tableaux.

We provide the foundation of the spectral analysis of the Laplacian on the orbital Schreier graphs of the Basilica group, the iterated monodromy group of the quadratic polynomial $z^2-1$. This group is an important example in the class of self-similar amenable but not elementary amenable finite automata groups studied by Grigorchuk, Żuk, \v Sunić, Bartholdi, Virág, Nekrashevych, Kaimanovich, Nagnibeda et al. We prove that the spectrum of the Laplacian has infinitely many gaps and that the support of the KNS Spectral Measure is a Cantor set. Moreover, on a generic blowup, the spectrum coincides with this Cantor set, and is pure point with localized eigenfunctions and eigenvalues located at the endpoints of the gaps.

In this paper, we completely determine the point regular automorphism groups of the Payne derived quadrangle of the symplectic quadrangle $W(q)$, $q$ odd. As a corollary, we show that the finite groups that act regularly on the points of a finite generalized quadrangle can have unbounded nilpotency class.
Groups, graphs, and hypergraphs: average sizes of kernels of generic matrices with support constraints

We develop a theory of average sizes of kernels of generic matrices with support constraints defined in terms of graphs and hypergraphs. We apply this theory to study unipotent groups associated with graphs. In particular, we establish strong uniformity results pertaining to zeta functions enumerating conjugacy classes of these groups. We deduce that the numbers of conjugacy classes of $\mathbf{F}_q$-points of the groups under consideration depend polynomially on $q$. Our approach combines group theory, graph theory, toric geometry, and $p$-adic integration.
Our uniformity results are in line with a conjecture of Higman on the numbers of conjugacy classes of unitriangular matrix groups. Our findings are, however, in stark contrast to related results by Belkale and Brosnan on the numbers of generic symmetric matrices of given rank associated with graphs.
Jordan-Hölder with uniqueness for semimodular semilattices
We present a short proof of the Jordan-Hölder theorem with uniqueness for semimodular semilattice: Given two maximal chains in a semimodular semilattice of finite height, they both have the same length. Moreover there is a unique bijection that takes the prime intervals of the first chain to the prime intervals of the second chain such that the interval and its image are up-and-down projective.
The theorem generalizes the classical result that all composition series of a finite group have the same length and isomorphic factors. Moreover, it shows that the isomorphism is in some sense unique.
Cayley posets

We introduce Cayley posets as posets arising naturally from pairs $S<T$ of semigroups, much in the same way that Cayley graph arises from a (semi)group and a subset. We show that Cayley posets are a common generalization of several known classes of posets, e.g. posets of numerical semigroups (with torsion) and more generally affine semigroups. Furthermore, we give Sabidussi-type characterizations for Cayley posets and for several subclasses in terms of their endomorphism monoid. We show that large classes of posets are Cayley posets, e.g., series-parallel posets and (generalizations of) join-semilattices, but also provide examples of posets which cannot be represented this way. Finally, we characterize (locally finite, with a finite number of atoms) auto-equivalent posets - a class that generalizes a recently introduced notion for numerical semigroups - as those posets coming from a finitely generated submonoid of an abelian group.

Half-arc-transitive graphs are a fascinating topic which connects graph theory, Riemann surfaces and group theory. Although fruitful results have been obtained over the last half a century, it is still challenging to construct half-arc-transitive graphs with prescribed vertex stabilizers. Until recently, there have been only six known connected tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs with nonabelian vertex stabilizers, and the question whether there exists a connected tetravalent half-arc-transitive graph with nonabelian vertex stabilizer of order $2^s$ for every $s\geqslant3$ has been wide open. This question is answered in the affirmative in this paper via the construction of a connected tetravalent half-arc-transitive graph with vertex stabilizer $\mathrm{D}_8^2\times\mathrm{C}_2^m$ for each integer $m\geqslant1$, where $\mathrm{D}_8^2$ is the direct product of two copies of the dihedral group of order $8$ and $\mathrm{C}_2^m$ is the direct product of $m$ copies of the cyclic group of order $2$. The graphs constructed have surprisingly many significant properties in various contexts.
The NNN-Property of Cyclic Groups
A Cayley graph is said to be an NNN-graph if it is both normal and non-normal for isomorphic regular groups, and a group has the NNN-property if there exists an NNN-graph for it. In this paper we investigate the NNN-property of cyclic groups, and show that cyclic groups do not have the NNN-property.

We prove several relations on the $f$-vectors and Betti numbers of flag complexes. For every flag complex $Δ$, we show that there exists a balanced complex with the same $f$-vector as $Δ$, and whose top-dimensional Betti number is at least that of $Δ$, thereby extending a theorem of Frohmader by additionally taking homology into consideration. We obtain upper bounds on the top-dimensional Betti number of $Δ$ in terms of its face numbers. We also give a quantitative refinement of a theorem of Meshulam by establishing lower bounds on the $f$-vector of $Δ$, in terms of the top-dimensional Betti number of $Δ$. This result has a continuous analog: If $Δ$ is a $(d-1)$-dimensional flag complex whose $(d-1)$-th reduced homology group has dimension $a\geq 0$ (over some field), then the $f$-polynomial of $Δ$ satisfies the coefficient-wise inequality $f_Δ(x) \geq (1 + (\sqrt[d]{a}+1)x)^d$.

A finite Coxeter group $W$ has a natural metric $d$ and if $\mathcal{M}$ is a subset of $W$, then for each $u\in W$, there is $q\in \mathcal{M}$ such that $d(u,q)=d(u,\mathcal{M})$. Such $q$ is not unique in general but if $\mathcal{M}$ is a Coxeter matroid, then it is unique, and we define a retraction $\mathcal{R}^m_{\mathcal{M}}\colon W\to \mathcal{M}\subset W$ so that $\mathcal{R}^m_{\mathcal{M}}(u)=q$.
The $T$-fixed point set $Y^T$ of a $T$-orbit closure $Y$ in a flag variety $G/B$ is a Coxeter matroid, where $G$ is a semisimple algebraic group, $B$ is a Borel subgroup, and $T$ is a maximal torus of $G$ contained in $B$. We define a retraction $\mathcal{R}^g_{Y}\colon W\to Y^T\subset W$ geometrically, where $W$ is the Weyl group of $G$, and show that $\mathcal{R}^g_{Y}=\mathcal{R}^m_{Y^T}$. We introduce another retraction $\mathcal{R}^a_{\mathcal{M}}\colon W\to \mathcal{M}\subset W$ algebraically for an arbitrary subset $\mathcal{M}$ of $W$ when $W$ is a Weyl group of classical Lie type, and show that $\mathcal{R}^a_{\mathcal{M}}=\mathcal{R}^m_{\mathcal{M}}$ when $\mathcal{M}$ is a Coxeter matroid.

The multiplicity of a weight in a finite-dimensional irreducible representation of a simple Lie algebra g can be computed via Kostant's weight multiplicity formula. This formula consists of an alternating sum over the Weyl group (a finite group) and involves a partition function known as Kostant's partition function. Motivated by the observation that, in practice, most terms in the sum are zero, our main results describe the elements of the Weyl alternation sets. The Weyl alternation sets are subsets of the Weyl group which contributes nontrivially to the multiplicity of a weight in a highest weight representation of the Lie algebras so_4(C), so_5(C), sp_4(C), and the exceptional Lie algebra g_2. By taking a geometric approach, we extend the work of Harris, Lescinsky, and Mabie on sl_3(C), to provide visualizations of these Weyl alternation sets for all pairs of integral weights λand μof the Lie algebras considered.

Let $G$ be the group scheme $\operatorname{SL}_{d+1}$ over $\mathbb{Z}$ and let $Q$ be the parabolic subgroup scheme corresponding to the simple roots $α_{2},\cdots,α_{d-1}$. Then $G/Q$ is the $\mathbb{Z} $-scheme of partial flags $\{D_{1}\subset H_{d}\subset V\}$. We will calculate the cohomology modules of line bundles over this flag scheme. We will prove that the only non-trivial ones are isomorphic to the kernel or the cokernel of certain matrices with multinomial coefficients.
A Pieri rule for Demazure characters of the general linear group

The Pieri rule is a nonnegative, multiplicity-free formula for the Schur function expansion of the product of an arbitrary Schur function with a single row Schur function. Key polynomials are characters of Demazure modules for the general linear group that generalize the Schur function basis of symmetric functions to a basis of the full polynomial ring. We prove a nonsymmetric generalization of the Pieri rule by giving a cancellation-free, multiplicity-free formula for the key polynomial expansion of the product of an arbitrary key polynomial with a single part key polynomial. Our proof is combinatorial, generalizing the Robinson--Schensted--Knuth insertion algorithm on tableaux to an insertion algorithm on Kohnert diagrams.

A finite simple graph $Γ$ determines a quotient $P_Γ$ of the pure braid group, called a graphic arrangement group. We analyze homomorphisms of these groups defined by deletion of sets of vertices, using methods developed in prior joint work with R. Randell. We show that, for a $K_4$-free graph $Γ$, a product of deletion maps is injective, embedding $P_Γ$ in a product of free groups. Then $P_Γ$ is residually free, torsion-free, residually torsion-free nilpotent, and acts properly on a CAT(0) cube complex. We also show $P_Γ$ is of homological finiteness type $F_{m-1}$, but not $F_m$, where $m$ is the number of copies of $K_3$ in $Γ$, except in trivial cases. The embedding result is extended to graphs whose 4-cliques share at most one edge, giving an injection of $P_Γ$ into the product of pure braid groups corresponding to maximal cliques of $Γ$. We give examples showing that this map may inject in more general circumstances. We define the graphic braid group $B_Γ$ as a natural extension of $P_Γ$ by the automorphism group of $Γ$, and extend our homological finiteness result to these groups.

In the late 80s, V.~Arnold and V.~Vassiliev initiated the topological study of the space of real univariate polynomials of a given degree d and with no real roots of multiplicity exceeding a given positive integer. Expanding their studies, we consider the spaces of real monic univariate polynomials of degree d whose real divisors avoid sequences of root multiplicities taken from a given poset of compositions which is closed under certain natural combinatorial operations. In this paper, we concentrate on the fundamental group of such spaces. We find explicit presentations for the fundamental groups in terms of generators and relations and show that in a number of cases they are free with rank bounded from above by a quadratic function in d. We also show that the fundamental group stabilizes for d large. We further show that the fundamental groups admit an interpretation as special bordisms of immersions of 1-manifolds into the cylinder S^1 \times R, whose images avoid the tangency patterns from the poset with respect to the generators of the cylinder.

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the statistic (des+ides) which assigns to an element w of a finite Coxeter group W the number of descents of w plus the number of descents of its inverse. Our main result is a central limit theorem for the probability distributions associated to this statistic. This answers a question of Kahle-Stump and generalises work of Chatterjee-Diaconis, Özdemir and Röttger.

We study tensor models based on $O(N)^r$ symmetry groups constructed out of rank-$r$ tensors with order-$q$ interaction vertices. We refer to those tensor models for which $r<q-1$ as \textit{subchromatic}. We focus most of our attention on sextic ($q=6$) models with maximally-single-trace interactions. We show that only three subchromatic sextic maximally-single-trace interaction vertices exist: these are the $r=3$ prism, the $r=3$ wheel (or $K_{3,3}$) and the $r=4$ octahedron. For theories based on these interactions we demonstrate that the set of Feynman diagrams that contribute to the free energy in the large $N$ limit are melonic (or closely related to melonic diagrams, in the case of the prism) and thus can be explicitly summed.
The index of Lie poset algebras

We provide general closed-form formulas for the index of type-A Lie poset algebras corresponding to posets of restricted height. Furthermore, we provide a combinatorial recipe for constructing all posets corresponding to type-A Frobenius Lie poset algebras of heights zero, one, and two. A finite Morse theory argument establishes that the simplicial realization of such posets is contractible. It then follows, from a recent theorem of Coll and Gerstenhaber, that the second Lie cohomology group of the corresponding Lie poset algebra with coefficients in itself is zero. Consequently, the Lie poset algebra is absolutely rigid and cannot be deformed. We also provide matrix representations for Lie poset algebras in the other classical types. By so doing, we are able to give examples of deformable Lie algebras which are both solvable and Frobenius. This resolves a question of Gerstenhaber and Giaquinto about the existence of such algebras.
