Expanded-clique graphs and the domination problem

Given a graph $G$ such that each vertex $v_i$ has a value $f(v_i)$, the expanded-clique graph $H$ is the graph where each vertex $v_i$ of $G$ becomes a clique $V_i$ of size $f(v_i)$ and for each edge $v_iv_j \in E(G)$, there is a vertex of $V_i$ adjacent to an exclusive vertex of $V_j$. In this work, among the results, we present two characterizations of the expanded-clique graphs, one of them leads to a linear-time recognition algorithm. Regarding the domination number, we show that this problem is \NP-complete for planar bipartite $3$-expanded-clique graphs and for cubic line graphs of bipartite graphs.
Computation of twin-width of graphs
Twin-width is a recently introduced graph parameter. In this article, we compute twin-width of various finite graphs. In particular, we prove that the twin-widths of finite graphs with 4 and 5 vertices are less than equal to 1 and 2, respectively. We show that the constructions of dual graph and line graph do not preserve twin-width. Also, we give upper bounds for the twin-width of King's graph and Rook's graph.
A Short Proof that the List Packing Number of any Graph is Well Defined

List packing is a notion that was introduced in 2021 (by Cambie et al.). The list packing number of a graph $G$, denoted $χ_{\ell}^*(G)$, is the least $k$ such that for any list assignment $L$ that assigns $k$ colors to each vertex of $G$, there is a set of $k$ proper $L$-colorings of $G$, $\{f_1, \ldots, f_k \}$, with the property $f_i(v) \neq f_j(v)$ whenever $1 \leq i < j \leq k$ and $v \in V(G)$. We present a short proof that for any graph $G$, $χ_{\ell}^*(G) \leq |V(G)|$. Interestingly, our proof makes use of Galvin's celebrated result that the list chromatic number of the line graph of any bipartite multigraph equals its chromatic number.

For $d \ge 2$, we show that all graphs of $d$-polytopes have a Hamiltonian line graph if and only if $d \ne 3$: We exhibit a graph of a $3$-polytope on $252$ vertices whose line graph does not even have Hamiltonian paths. Adapting a construction by Grünbaum and Motzkin, for large $n$ we also construct simple $3$-polytopes on $3n$ vertices in whose line graph any simple path is shorter than $10 n^α$, for some constant $α<1$. Moreover, we give four elementary counterexamples of plausible extensions to simplicial complexes of four famous results in Hamiltonian graph theory.

This paper continues a series of papers investigating the following question: which hereditary graph classes have bounded treewidth? We call a graph $t$-clean if it does not contain as an induced subgraph the complete graph $K_t$, the complete bipartite graph $K_{t, t}$, subdivisions of a $(t \times t)$-wall, and line graphs of subdivisions of a $(t \times t)$-wall. It is known that graphs with bounded treewidth must be $t$-clean for some $t$; however, it is not true that every $t$-clean graph has bounded treewidth. In this paper, we show that three types of cutsets, namely clique cutsets, 2-cutsets, and 1-joins, interact well with treewidth and with each other, so graphs that are decomposable by these cutsets into basic classes of bounded treewidth have bounded treewidth. We apply this result to two hereditary graph classes, the class of ($ISK_4$, wheel)-free graphs and the class of graphs with no cycle with a unique chord. These classes were previously studied and decomposition theorems were obtained for both classes. Our main results are that $t$-clean ($ISK_4$, wheel)-free graphs have bounded treewidth and that $t$-clean graphs with no cycle with a unique chord have bounded treewidth.
Sharp bounds on the symmetric division deg index of graphs and line graphs

For a graph $G$ with vertex set $V_{G}$ and edge set $E_{G}$, the symmetric division deg index is defined as $SDD(G)=\sum\limits_{uv\in E_{G}}(\frac{d_{u}}{d_{v}}+\frac{d_{v}}{d_{u}})$, where $d_{u}$ denotes the degree of vertex $u$ in $G$. In 2018, Furtula et al. confirmed the quality of SDD index exceeds that of some more popular VDB indices, in particular that of the GA index. They shown a close connection between the SDD index and the earlier well-established GA index. Thus it is meaningful and important to consider the chemical and mathematical properties of the SDD index. In this paper, we determine some sharp bounds on the symmetric division deg index of graphs and line graphs and characterize the corresponding extremal graphs.

A graph $H$ is an induced subgraph of a graph $G$ if a graph isomorphic to $H$ can be obtained from $G$ by deleting vertices. Recently, there has been significant interest in understanding the unavoidable induced subgraphs for graphs of large treewidth. Motivated by this work, we consider the analogous problem for pathwidth: what are the unavoidable induced subgraphs for graphs of large pathwidth? While resolving this question in the general setting looks challenging, we prove various results for sparse graphs. In particular, we show that every graph with bounded maximum degree and sufficiently large pathwidth contains a subdivision of a large complete binary tree or the line graph of a subdivision of a large complete binary tree as an induced subgraph. Similarly, we show that every graph excluding a fixed minor and with sufficiently large pathwidth contains a subdivision of a large complete binary tree or the line graph of a subdivision of a large complete binary tree as an induced subgraph. Finally, we present a characterisation for when a hereditary class defined by a finite set of forbidden induced subgraphs has bounded pathwidth.
Line graphs of simplicial complexes
We consider the line graph of a pure simplicial complex. We prove that, as in the case of line graphs of simple graphs, one can compute the second graded Betti number of the facet ideal of a pure simplicial complex in terms of the combinatorial structure of its line graph. We characterize those pure simplicial complexes whose line graph is a complete (bipartite) graph. We give conditions that line graphs of simplicial complexes should fulfill.
The $γ$-Signless Laplacian Adjacency Matrix of Mixed Graphs

The $α$-Hermitian adjacency matrix $H_α$ of a mixed graph $X$ has been recently introduced. It is a generalization of the adjacency matrix of unoriented graphs. In this paper, we consider a special case of the complex number $α$. This enables us to define an incidence matrix of mixed graphs. Consequently, we define a generalization of line graphs as well as a generalization of the signless Laplacian adjacency matrix of graphs. We then study the spectral properties of the signless Laplacian adjacency matrix of a mixed graph. Lastly, we characterize when the signless Laplacian adjacency matrix of a mixed graph is singular and give lower and upper bounds of number of arcs and digons in terms of largest and lowest eigenvalue of the signless Laplacian adjacency matrix.

This paper deals with graph automaton groups associated with trees and some generalizations. We start by showing some algebraic properties of tree automaton groups. Then we characterize the associated semigroup, proving that it is isomorphic to the partially commutative monoid associated with the complement of the line graph of the defining tree. After that, we generalize these groups by introducing the quite broad class of reducible automaton groups, which lies in the class of contracting automaton groups without singular points. We give a general structure theorem that shows that all reducible automaton groups are direct limit of poly-context-free groups which are virtually subgroups of the direct product of free groups; notice that this result partially supports a conjecture by T. Brough. Moreover, we prove that tree automaton groups with at least two generators are not finitely presented and they are amenable groups, which are direct limit of non-amenable groups.

In the theory of line graphs of undirected graphs there exists an important theorem linking the incidence matrix of the root graph to the adjacency matrix of its line graph. For directed or mixed graphs, however, the exists no analogous result. The goal of this article is to present aligned definitions of the adjacency matrix, the incidence matrix and line graph of a mixed graph such that the mentioned theorem is valid for mixed graphs.
Induced subgraphs and tree decompositions V. One neighbor in a hole

What are the unavoidable induced subgraphs of graphs with large treewidth? It is well-known that the answer must include a complete graph, a complete bipartite graph, all subdivisions of a wall and line graphs of all subdivisions of a wall (we refer to these graphs as the "basic treewidth obstructions"). So it is natural to ask whether graphs excluding the basic treewidth obstructions as induced subgraphs have bounded treewidth. Sintiari and Trotignon answered this question in the negative. Their counterexamples, the so-called "layered wheels," contain wheels, where a wheel consists of a hole (i.e., an induced cycle of length at least four) along with a vertex with at least three neighbors in the hole. This leads one to ask whether graphs excluding wheels and the basic treewidth obstructions as induced subgraphs have bounded treewidth. This also turns out to be false due to Davies' recent example of graphs with large treewidth, no wheels and and no basic treewidth obstructions as induced subgraphs. However, in Davies' example there exist holes and vertices (outside of the hole) with two neighbors in them. Here we prove that a hole with a vertex with at least two neighbors in it is inevitable in graphs with large treewidth and no basic obstruction. Our main result is that graphs in which every vertex has at most one neighbor in every hole (that does not contain it) and with the basic treewidth obstructions excluded as induced subgraphs have bounded treewidth.
Iterated line graphs with only negative eigenvalues $-2$, their complements and energy

The graphs with all equal negative or positive eigenvalues are special kind in the spectral graph theory. In this article, several iterated line graphs $\mathcal{L}^k(G)$ with all equal negative eigenvalues $-2$ are characterized for $k\ge 1$ and their energy consequences are presented. Also, the spectra and the energy of complement of these graphs are obtained, interestingly they have exactly two positive eigenvalues with different multiplicities. Moreover, we characterize a large class of equienergetic graphs which generalize some of the existing results. There are two different quotient matrices defined for an equitable partition of $H$-join (generalized composition) of regular graphs to find the spectrum (partial) of adjacency matrix, Laplacian matrix and signless Laplacian matrix, it has been proved that these two quotient matrices give the same respective spectrum of graphs.
A $C_{4}$-decomposition of the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{m,n}$
The small cycle decompositions of line graph ($λ$-fold line graph) of complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs are studied by many papers. In particular, Colby and Rodger obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a $C_{4}$-decomposition of the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{n}$, and Ganesamurthy and Paulraja completely determined the values of $n$ and $λ$ for which the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{n}$ has a $C_{5}$-decomposition. In this paper, we obtain the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a $C_{4}$-decomposition of the $λ$-fold line graph of $K_{m,n}$.

For an incidence geometry $\mathcal{G} = (\mathcal{P}, \mathcal{L}, \text{I})$ with a linear representation $\mathcal{T}_n^*(\mathcal{K})$, we apply WQH switching to construct a non-geometric graph $Γ'$ cospectral with the line graph $Γ$ of $\mathcal{G}$.
As an application, we show that for $h \geq 2$ and $0 < m < h$, there are strongly regular graphs with parameters $(v, k, λ, μ) = (2^{2h} (2^{m+h}+2^m-2^h), 2^h (2^h+1)(2^m-1), 2^h (2^{m+1}-3), 2^h (2^m-1))$ which are not point graphs of partial geometries of order $(s,t,α) = ((2^h+1)(2^m-1), 2^h-1, 2^m-1)$.
Induced subgraphs and tree decompositions V. Small components of big vertices
Aboulker, Adler, Kim, Sintiari, and Trotignon conjectured that every graph with bounded maximum degree and large treewidth must contain, as an induced subgraph, a large subdivided wall, or the line graph of a large subdivided wall. This conjecture was recently proved by Korhonen, but the problem of identifying the obstacles to bounded treewidth in the general case (that is, without the bounded maximum degree condition) remains wide open. Examples of structures of large treewidth which avoid the "usual suspects" have been constructed by Sintiari and Trotignon, and by Davies. In this note, we aim to better isolate the features of these examples that lead to large treewidth. To this end, we prove the following result. Let $G$ be a graph, and write $γ(G)$ for the size of a largest connected component in the graph induced by $G$ on the set of vertices of degree at least 3. If $γ(G)$ is small and the treewidth of $G$ is large, then $G$ must contain a large subdivided wall or the line graph of a large subdivided wall. This result is the best possible, in the sense that the conclusion fails if we replace 3 by any larger number in the definition of $γ(G)$, as evidenced by Davies' example.
Hochschild homology, and a persistent approach via connectivity digraphs

We introduce a persistent Hochschild homology framework for directed graphs. Hochschild homology groups of (path algebras of) directed graphs vanish in degree $i\geq 2$. To extend them to higher degrees, we introduce the notion of connectivity digraphs and analyse two main examples; the first, arising from Atkin's $q$-connectivity, and the second, here called $n$-path digraphs, generalising the classical notion of line graphs. Based on a categorical setting for persistent homology, we propose a stable pipeline for computing persistent Hochschild homology groups. This pipeline is also amenable to other homology theories; for this reason, we complement our work with a survey on homology theories of digraphs.

A graph $H$ is an induced minor of a graph $G$ if $H$ can be obtained from $G$ by vertex deletions and edge contractions. We show that there is a function $f(k, d) = O(k^{10} + 2^{d^5})$ so that if a graph has treewidth at least $f(k, d)$ and maximum degree at most $d$, then it contains a $k \times k$-grid as an induced minor. This proves the conjecture of Aboulker, Adler, Kim, Sintiari, and Trotignon [Eur. J. Comb., 98, 2021] that any graph with large treewidth and bounded maximum degree contains a large wall or the line graph of a large wall as an induced subgraph. It also implies that for any fixed planar graph $H$, there is a subexponential time algorithm for maximum weight independent set on $H$-induced-minor-free graphs.

A connected graph $G$ is called strongly Menger edge connected if $G$ has min\{deg$_G(x)$, deg$_G(y)$\} edge-disjoint paths between any two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ in $G$. In this paper, we consider two types of strongly Menger edge connectivity of the line graphs of $n$-dimensional hypercube-like networks with faulty edges, namely the $m$-edge-fault-tolerant and $m$-conditional edge-fault-tolerant strongly Menger edge connectivity. We show that the line graph of any $n$-dimensional hypercube-like network is $(2n-4)$-edge-fault-tolerant strongly Menger edge connected for $n\geq 3$ and $(4n-10)$-conditional edge-fault-tolerant strongly Menger edge connected for $n\geq 4$. The two bounds for the maximum number of faulty edges are best possible.

Let $L(X)$ be the line graph of graph $X$. Let $X^{\prime\prime}$ be the Kronecker product of $X$ by $K_2$. In this paper, we see that $L(X^{\prime\prime})$ is a double cover of $L(X)$. We define the symmetric edge graph of $X$, denoted as $γ(X)$ which is also a double cover of $L(X)$. We study various properties of $γ(X)$ in relation to $X$ and the relationship amongst the three double covers of $L(X)$ that are $L(X^{\prime\prime}),γ(X)$ and $L(X)^{\prime\prime}$. With the help of these double covers, we show that for any integer $k\geq 5$, there exist two equienergetic graphs of order $2k$ that are not cospectral.
