Let $R$ be a finite commutative ring. The unitary Cayley graph of $R$, denoted $G_R$, is the graph with vertex set $R$ and edge set ${{a,b}:a,b\in R, a-b\in R^\times}$, where $R^\times$ is the set of units of $R$. An $r$-regular graph is Ramanujan if the absolute value of every eigenvalue of it other than $\pm r$ is at most $2\sqrt{r-1}$. In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $G_R$ to be Ramanujan, and a necessary and sufficient condition for the complement of $G_R$ to be Ramanujan. We also determine the energy of the line graph of $G_R$, and compute the spectral moments of $G_R$ and its line graph.
Lower Bound For The Rank Of 2-Dimensional Generic Rigidity Matroid For Regular Graphs Of Degree Four And Five
In this note we prove a lower bound for the rank of 2-dimensional generic rigidity matroid for regular graphs of degree four and five. Also, we give examples to show the order of the bound we give is sharp.

A graph $G$ is said to be a $k$-degenerate graph if any subgraph of $G$ contains a vertex of degree at most $k$. Let $κ$ be any non-negative function on the vertex set of $G$. We first define a $κ$-degenerate graph. Next we give an efficient algorithm to determine whether a graph is $κ$-degenerate. We revisit the concept of dynamic monopolies in graphs. The latter notion is used in formulation and analysis of spread of influence such as disease or opinion in social networks. We consider dynamic monopolies with (not necessarily positive) but integral threshold assignments. We obtain a sufficient and necessary relationship between dynamic monopolies and generalized degeneracy. As applications of the previous results we consider the problem of determining the maximum size of $κ$-degenerate (or $k$-degenerate) induced subgraphs in any graph. We obtain some upper and lower bounds for the maximum size of any $κ$-degenerate induced subgraph in general and regular graphs. All of our bounds are constructive.
Counting colorings of a regular graph

At most how many (proper) q-colorings does a regular graph admit? Galvin and Tetali conjectured that among all n-vertex, d-regular graphs with 2d|n, none admits more q-colorings than the disjoint union of n/2d copies of the complete bipartite graph K_{d,d}. In this note we give asymptotic evidence for this conjecture, giving an upper bound on the number of proper q-colorings admitted by an n-vertex, d-regular graph of the form a^n b^{n(1+o(1))/d} (where a and b depend on q and where o(1) goes to 0 as d goes to infinity) that agrees up to the o(1) term with the count of q-colorings of n/2d copies of K_{d,d}.
An auxiliary result is an upper bound on the number of colorings of a regular graph in terms of its independence number. For example, we show that for all even q and fixed ε> 0 there is δ=δ(ε,q) such that the number of proper q-colorings admitted by an n-vertex, d-regular graph with no independent set of size n(1-ε)/2 is at most (a-δ)^n.
Eigenvalues of a H-generalized join graph operation constrained by vertex subsets

Considering a graph $H$ of order $p$, a generalized $H$-join operation of a family of graphs $G_1,..., G_p$, constrained by a family of vertex subsets $S_i \subseteq V(G_i)$, $i=1,..., p,$ is introduced. When each vertex subset $S_i$ is $(k_i,τ_i)$-regular, it is deduced that all non-main adjacency eigenvalues of $G_i$, different from $k_i-τ_i$, for $i=1,..., p,$ remain as eigenvalues of the graph $G$ obtained by the above mentioned operation. Furthermore, if each graph $G_i$ of the family is $k_i$-regular, for $i=1,..., p$, and all the vertex subsets are such that $S_i=V(G_i)$, the $H$-generalized join operation constrained by these vertex subsets coincides with the $H$-generalized join operation. Some applications on the spread of graphs are presented. Namely, new lower and upper bounds are deduced and a infinity family of non regular graphs of order $n$ with spread equals $n$ is introduced.

In 1980, Jackson proved that every 2-connected $k$-regular graph with at most $3k$ vertices is Hamiltonian. This result has been extended in several papers. In this note, we determine the minimum number of vertices in a connected $k$-regular graph that is not Hamiltonian, and we also solve the analogous problem for Hamiltonian paths. Further, we characterize the smallest connected $k$-regular graphs without a Hamiltonian cycle.

In a coalescing random walk, a set of particles make independent random walks on a graph. Whenever one or more particles meet at a vertex, they unite to form a single particle, which then continues the random walk through the graph. Coalescing random walks can be used to achieve consensus in distributed networks, and is the basis of the self-stabilizing mutual exclusion algorithm of Israeli and Jalfon.
Let G=(V,E), be an undirected, connected n vertex graph with m edges. Let C(n) be the expected time for all particles to coalesce, when initially one particle is located at each vertex of an n vertex graph.
We study the problem of bounding the coalescence time C(n) for general classes of graphs. Our main result is that C(n)= O(1/(1-lambda_2))*((log n)^4 +n/A)), where lambda_2 is the absolute value of the second largest eigenvalue of the transition matrix of the random walk, A= (sum d^2(v))/(d^2 n), d(v) is the degree of vertex v, and d is the average node degree. The parameter A is an indicator of the variability of node degrees. Thus 1 <= A =O(n), with A=1 for regular graphs.

We show that, if P\not=NP, there is a constant c > 1 such that there is no c-approximation algorithm for the crossing number, even when restricted to 3-regular graphs.

Let F be a 4-regular graph with an Euler system C. We introduce a simple way to modify the interlacement matrix of C so that every circuit partition P of F has an associated modified interlacement matrix M(C,P). If C and C' are Euler systems of F then M(C,C') and M(C',C) are inverses, and for any circuit partition P, M(C',P)=M(C',C)M(C,P). This machinery allows for short proofs of several results regarding the linear algebra of interlacement.

Using a relation between domination number and incidence chromatic number, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for $r$-regular graphs to be $(r+1)$-incidence colorable. Also, we determine the optimal Nordhaus-Gaddum inequality for the incidence chromatic number.
Corrigendum: Sampling regular graphs and a peer-to-peer network
In [Combinatorics, Probability and Computing 16 (2007), 557 - 593, Theorem 1] we proved a polynomial-time bound on the mixing rate of the switch chain for sampling d-regular graphs. This corrigendum corrects a technical error in the proof. In order to fix the error, we must multiply the bound on the mixing time by a factor of d^8 .
Traffic Analysis in Random Delaunay Tessellations and Other Graphs
In this work we study the degree distribution, the maximum vertex and edge flow in non-uniform random Delaunay triangulations when geodesic routing is used. We also investigate the vertex and edge flow in Erdös-Renyi random graphs, geometric random graphs, expanders and random $k$-regular graphs. Moreover we show that adding a random matching to the original graph can considerably reduced the maximum vertex flow.
Random Regular Graphs are not Asymptotically Gromov Hyperbolic
In this paper we prove that random $d$--regular graphs with $d\geq 3$ have traffic congestion of the order $O(n\log_{d-1}^{3}(n))$ where $n$ is the number of nodes and geodesic routing is used. We also show that these graphs are not asymptotically $δ$--hyperbolic for any non--negative $δ$ almost surely as $n\to\infty$.

We give an excess theorem for spherical 2-designs. This theorem is a dual version of the spectral excess theorem for graphs, which gives a characterization of distance-regular graphs, among regular graphs in terms of the eigenvalues and the excess. Here we give a characterization of Q-polynomial association schemes among spherical 2-designs.
Geodesic growth in right-angled and even Coxeter groups
The objective of this paper is to detect which combinatorial properties of a regular graph can completely determine the geodesic growth of the right-angled Coxeter or Artin group this graph defines, and to provide the first examples of right-angled and even Coxeter groups with the same geodesic growth series.

Consider the sum of $d$ many i.i.d. random permutation matrices on $n$ labels along with their transposes. The resulting matrix is the adjacency matrix of a random regular (multi)-graph of degree $2d$ on $n$ vertices. It is known that the distribution of smooth linear eigenvalue statistics of this matrix is given asymptotically by sums of Poisson random variables. This is in contrast with Gaussian fluctuation of similar quantities in the case of Wigner matrices. It is also known that for Wigner matrices the joint fluctuation of linear eigenvalue statistics across minors of growing sizes can be expressed in terms of the Gaussian Free Field (GFF). In this article, we explore joint asymptotic (in $n$) fluctuation for a coupling of all random regular graphs of various degrees obtained by growing each component permutation according to the Chinese Restaurant Process. Our primary result is that the corresponding eigenvalue statistics can be expressed in terms of a family of independent Yule processes with immigration. These processes track the evolution of short cycles in the graph. If we now take $d$ to infinity, certain GFF-like properties emerge.

In a recent paper, we showed that every sufficiently large regular digraph G on n vertices whose degree is linear in n and which is a robust outexpander has a decomposition into edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles. The main consequence of this theorem is that every regular tournament on n vertices can be decomposed into (n-1)/2 edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles, whenever n is sufficiently large. This verified a conjecture of Kelly from 1968. In this paper, we derive a number of further consequences of our result on robust outexpanders, the main ones are the following: (i) an undirected analogue of our result on robust outexpanders; (ii) best possible bounds on the size of an optimal packing of edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles in a graph of minimum degree d for a large range of values for d. (iii) a similar result for digraphs of given minimum semidegree; (iv) an approximate version of a conjecture of Nash-Williams on Hamilton decompositions of dense regular graphs; (v) the observation that dense quasi-random graphs are robust outexpanders; (vi) a verification of the `very dense' case of a conjecture of Frieze and Krivelevich on packing edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles in random graphs; (vii) a proof of a conjecture of Erdos on the size of an optimal packing of edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles in a random tournament.

In this paper, we give constructions of strongly regular Cayley graphs and skew Hadamard difference sets. Both constructions are based on choosing cyclotomic classes in finite fields, and our results generalize ten of the eleven sporadic examples of cyclotomic strongly regular graphs given by Schmidt and White [24] and several of subfield examples into infinite families. These infinite families of strongly regular graphs have new parameters. The main tools that we employed are relative Gauss sums instead of explicit evaluations of Gauss sums.
Edge growth in graph powers
For a graph G, its rth power G^r has the same vertex set as G, and has an edge between any two vertices within distance r of each other in G. We give a lower bound for the number of edges in the rth power of G in terms of the order of G and the minimal degree of G. As a corollary we determine how small the ratio e(G^r)/e(G) can be for regular graphs of diameter at least r.

We give a combinatorial characterization of graphs whose normalized Laplacian has three distinct eigenvalues. Strongly regular graphs and complete bipartite graphs are examples of such graphs, but we also construct more exotic families of examples from conference graphs, projective planes, and certain quasi-symmetric designs.
