Critical Independent Sets of a Graph
Let $G$ be a simple graph with vertex set $V\left( G\right) $. A set $S\subseteq V\left( G\right) $ is independent if no two vertices from $S$ are adjacent, and by $\mathrm{Ind}(G)$ we mean the family of all independent sets of $G$.
The number $d\left( X\right) =$ $\left\vert X\right\vert -\left\vert N(X)\right\vert $ is the difference of $X\subseteq V\left( G\right) $, and a set $A\in\mathrm{Ind}(G)$ is critical if $d(A)=\max \{d\left( I\right) :I\in\mathrm{Ind}(G)\}$ (Zhang, 1990).
Let us recall the following definitions:
$\mathrm{core}\left( G\right) $ = $\bigcap$ {S : S is a maximum independent set}.
$\mathrm{corona}\left( G\right)$ = $\bigcup$ {S :S is a maximum independent set}.
$\mathrm{\ker}(G)$ = $\bigcap$ {S : S is a critical independent set}.
$\mathrm{diadem}(G)$ = $\bigcup$ {S : S is a critical independent set}.
In this paper we present various structural properties of $\mathrm{\ker}(G)$, in relation with $\mathrm{core}\left( G\right) $, $\mathrm{corona}\left( G\right) $, and $\mathrm{diadem}(G)$.

Let $G$ be a simple graph of order $n$. The domination polynomial of $G$ is the polynomial $D(G, x)=\sum_{i=γ(G)}^{n} d(G,i) x^{i}$, where $d(G,i)$ is the number of dominating sets of $G$ of size $i$ and $γ(G)$ is the domination number of $G$. In this paper we study the domination polynomials of several classes of $k$-tree related graphs. Also, we present families of these kind of graphs, whose domination polynomial have no nonzero real roots.

Let $Γ$ be a compact metric graph, and denote by $Δ$ the Laplace operator on $Γ$ with the first non-trivial eigenvalue $λ_1$. We prove the following Yang-Li-Yau type inequality on divisorial gonality $γ_{div}$ of $Γ$. There is a universal constant $C$ such that \[γ_{div}(Γ) \geq C \frac{μ(Γ) . \ell_{\min}^{\mathrm{geo}}(Γ). λ_1(Γ)}{d_{\max}},\] where the volume $μ(Γ)$ is the total length of the edges in $Γ$, $\ell_{\min}^{\mathrm{geo}}$ is the minimum length of all the geodesic paths between points of $Γ$ of valence different from two, and $d_{\max}$ is the largest valence of points of $Γ$. Along the way, we also establish discrete versions of the above inequality concerning finite simple graph models of $Γ$ and their spectral gaps.

Hadwiger's conjecture asserts that if a simple graph $G$ has no $K_{t+1}$ minor, then its vertex set $V(G)$ can be partitioned into $t$ stable sets. This is still open, but we prove under the same hypotheses that $V(G)$ can be partitioned into $t$ sets $X_1,\ldots, X_t$, such that for $1\le i\le t$, the subgraph induced on $X_i$ has maximum degree at most a function of $t$. This is sharp, in that the conclusion becomes false if we ask for a partition into $t-1$ sets with the same property.
Estimating the distance Estrada index
Suppose $G$ is a simple graph on $n$ vertices. The $D$-eigenvalues $μ_1,μ_2,\cdots,μ_n$ of $G$ are the eigenvalues of its distance matrix. The distance Estrada index of $G$ is defined as $DEE(G)=\sum_{i=1}^ne^{μ_i}$. In this paper, we establish new lower and upper bounds for $DEE(G)$ in terms of the Wiener index $W(G)$. We also compute the distance Estrada index for some concrete graphs including the buckminsterfullerene $C_{60}$.

An integer-valued sequence $π=(d_1, \ldots, d_n)$ is {\em graphic} if there is a simple graph $G$ with degree sequence of $π$. We say the $π$ has a realization $G$. Let $Z_3$ be a cyclic group of order three. A graph $G$ is {\em $Z_3$-connected} if for every mapping $b:V(G)\to Z_3$ such that $\sum_{v\in V(G)}b(v)=0$, there is an orientation of $G$ and a mapping $f: E(G)\to Z_3-\{0\}$ such that for each vertex $v\in V(G)$, the sum of the values of $f$ on all the edges leaving from $v$ minus the sum of the values of $f$ on the all edges coming to $v$ is equal to $b(v)$. If an integer-valued sequence $π$ has a realization $G$ which is $Z_3$-connected, then $π$ has a {\em $Z_3$-connected realization} $G$. Let $π=(d_1, \ldots, d_n)$ be a graphic sequence with $d_1\ge \ldots \ge d_n\ge 3$. We prove in this paper that if $d_1\ge n-3$, then either $π$ has a $Z_3$-connected realization unless the sequence is $(n-3, 3^{n-1})$ or is $(k, 3^k)$ or $(k^2, 3^{k-1})$ where $k=n-1$ and $n$ is even; if $d_{n-5}\ge 4$, then either $π$ has a $Z_3$-connected realization unless the sequence is
$(5^2, 3^4)$ or $(5, 3^5)$.
Synchronization of finite-state pulse-coupled oscillators

We propose a novel generalized cellular automaton(GCA) model for discrete-time pulse-coupled oscillators and study the emergence of synchrony. Given a finite simple graph and an integer $n\ge 3$, each vertex is an identical oscillator of period $n$ with the following weak coupling along the edges: each oscillator inhibits its phase update if it has at least one neighboring oscillator at a particular "blinking" state and if its state is ahead of this blinking state. We obtain conditions on initial configurations and on network topologies for which states of all vertices eventually synchronize. We show that our GCA model synchronizes arbitrary initial configurations on paths, trees, and with random perturbation, any connected graph. In particular, our main result is the following local-global principle for tree networks: for $n\in \{3,4,5,6\}$, any $n$-periodic network on a tree synchronizes arbitrary initial configuration if and only if the maximum degree of the tree is less than the period $n$.
A list analog of Vizing's Theorem for simple graphs with triangles but no other odd cycles

In 1963, Corrádi and Hajnal proved that for all $k \ge 1$ and $n \ge 3k$, every (simple) graph on n vertices with minimum degree at least 2k contains k disjoint cycles. The same year, Dirac described the 3-connected multigraphs not containing two disjoint cycles and asked the more general question: Which (2k-1)-connected multigraphs do not contain k disjoint cycles? Recently, the authors characterized the simple graphs G with minimum degree $δ(G) \ge 2k-1$ that do not contain k disjoint cycles. We use this result to answer Dirac's question in full.
Indeterminate Strings, Prefix Arrays & Undirected Graphs

An integer array y = y[1..n] is said to be feasible if and only if y[1] = n and, for every i \in 2..n, i \le i+y[i] \le n+1. A string is said to be indeterminate if and only if at least one of its elements is a subset of cardinality greater than one of a given alphabet Sigma; otherwise it is said to be regular. A feasible array y is said to be regular if and only if it is the prefix array of some regular string. We show using a graph model that every feasible array of integers is a prefix array of some (indeterminate or regular) string, and for regular strings corresponding to y, we use the model to provide a lower bound on the alphabet size. We show further that there is a 1-1 correspondence between labelled simple graphs and indeterminate strings, and we show how to determine the minimum alphabet size |Sigma| of an indeterminate string x based on its associated graph Gx. Thus, in this sense, indeterminate strings are a more natural object of combinatorial interest than the strings on elements of Sigma that have traditionally been studied.

The independence polynomial of a hypergraph is the generating function for its independent (vertex) sets with respect to their cardinality. This article aims to discuss several recurrence relations for the independence polynomial using some vertex and edge operations. Further, an extension of the well-known recurrence relation for simple graphs to hypergraphs is proven and other novel recurrence relations are also discussed.
Skew Randić Matrix and Skew Randić Energy
Let $G$ be a simple graph with an orientation $σ$, which assigns to each edge a direction so that $G^σ$ becomes a directed graph. $G$ is said to be the underlying graph of the directed graph $G^σ$. In this paper, we define a weighted skew adjacency matrix with Randć weight, the skew Randić matrix ${\bf R_S}(G^σ)$, of $G^σ$ as the real skew symmetric matrix $[(r_s)_{ij}]$ where $(r_s)_{ij} = (d_id_j)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ and $(r_s)_{ji} = -(d_id_j)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ if $v_i \rightarrow v_j$ is an arc of $G^σ$, otherwise $(r_s)_{ij} = (r_s)_{ji} = 0$. We derive some properties of the skew Randić energy of an oriented graph. Most properties are similar to those for the skew energy of oriented graphs. But, surprisingly, the extremal oriented graphs with maximum or minimum skew Randić energy are completely different.
Randić Incidence Energy of Graphs
Let $G$ be a simple graph with vertex set $V(G) = \{v_1, v_2,\ldots, v_n\}$ and edge set $E(G) = \{e_1, e_2,\ldots, e_m\}$. Similar to the Randić matrix, here we introduce the Randić incidence matrix of a graph $G$, denoted by $I_R(G)$, which is defined as the $n\times m$ matrix whose $(i, j)$-entry is $(d_i)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ if $v_i$ is incident to $e_j$ and $0$ otherwise. Naturally, the Randić incidence energy $I_RE$ of $G$ is the sum of the singular values of $I_R(G)$. We establish lower and upper bounds for the Randić incidence energy. Graphs for which these bounds are best possible are characterized. Moreover, we investigate the relation between the Randić incidence energy of a graph and that of its subgraphs. Also we give a sharp upper bound for the Randić incidence energy of a bipartite graph and determine the trees with the maximum Randić incidence energy among all $n$-vertex trees. As a result, some results are very different from those for incidence energy.

We establish the following splitter theorem for graphs and its generalization for matroids: Let $G$ and $H$ be $3$-connected simple graphs such that $G$ has an $H$-minor and $k:=|V(G)|-|V(H)|\ge 2$. Let $n:=\left\lceil k/2\right\rceil+1$. Then there are pairwise disjoint sets $X_1,\dots,X_n\subseteq E(G)$ such that each $G/X_i$ is a $3$-connected graph with an $H$-minor, each $X_i$ is a singleton set or the edge set of a triangle of $G$ with $3$ degree-$3$ vertices and $X_1\cup\cdots\cup X_n$ contains no edge sets of circuits of $G$ other than the $X_i$'s. This result extends previous ones of Whittle (for $k=1,2$) and Costalonga (for $k=3$).

Graph Orientations and Linear Extensions

Given an underlying undirected simple graph, we consider the set of all acyclic orientations of its edges. Each of these orientations induces a partial order on the vertices of our graph and, therefore, we can count the number of linear extensions of these posets. We want to know which choice of orientation maximizes the number of linear extensions of the corresponding poset, and this problem will be solved essentially for comparability graphs and odd cycles, presenting several proofs. The corresponding enumeration problem for arbitrary simple graphs will be studied, including the case of random graphs; this will culminate in 1) new bounds for the volume of the stable polytope and 2) strong concentration results for our main statistic and for the graph entropy, which hold true $a.s.$ for random graphs. We will then argue that our problem springs up naturally in the theory of graphical arrangements and graphical zonotopes.
G-graphs Characterisation and Incidence Graphs
Graphs derived from groups are a widely studied class of graphs, motivated by their highly symmetric structure. In particular, G-graphs offer an easy and interesting alternative construction of semi-symmetric graphs. After recalling the main properties of these graphs, this papers gives an extended characterisation of G-graphs and develops the link between bipartite G-graphs and incidence graphs. It appears that these two classes of graphs have a wide overlapping despite having completely different constructions. We give partial answers to the problem of finding which complete simple graphs have a G-graph as their incidence graph.

In majority dynamics, agents located at the vertices of an undirected simple graph update their binary opinions synchronously by adopting those of the majority of their neighbors.
On infinite unimodular transitive graphs (e.g., Cayley graphs), when initial opinions are chosen from a distribution that is invariant with respect to the graph automorphism group, we show that the opinion of each agent almost surely either converges, or else eventually oscillates with period two; this is known to hold for finite graphs, but not for all infinite graphs.
On Erdős-Rényi random graphs with degrees $Ω(\sqrt{n})$, we show that when initial opinions are chosen i.i.d. then agents all converge to the initial majority opinion, with constant probability. Conversely, on random 4-regular finite graphs, we show that with high probability different agents converge to different opinions.

Let G be a simple graph of order $n$ and $μ_1,μ_2,\ldots,μ_n$ the roots of its matching polynomial. The matching energy of $G$ is defined as the sum $\sum_{i=1}^n|μ_i|$. Let $K_{n-1,1}^k$ be the graph obtained from $K_1\cup K_{n-1}$ by adding $k$ edges between $V(K_1)$ and $V(K_{n-1})$. In this paper, we show that $K_{n-1,1}^k$ has maximum matching energy among all connected graph with order $n$ and edge connectivity $k$.

An acyclic edge coloring of a graph $G$ is a proper edge coloring such that every cycle is colored with at least three colors. The acyclic chromatic index $\chiup_{a}'(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the least number of colors in an acyclic edge coloring of $G$. It was conjectured that $\chiup'_{a}(G)\leq Δ(G) + 2$ for any simple graph $G$ with maximum degree $Δ(G)$. In this paper, we prove that every planar graph $G$ admits an acyclic edge coloring with $Δ(G) + 6$ colors.
