This paper is motivated by the interplay between the Tamari lattice, J.-L. Loday's realization of the associahedron, and J.-L. Loday and M. Ronco's Hopf algebra on binary trees. We show that these constructions extend in the world of acyclic $k$-triangulations, which were already considered as the vertices of V. Pilaud and F. Santos' brick polytopes. We describe combinatorially a natural surjection from the permutations to the acyclic $k$-triangulations. We show that the fibers of this surjection are the classes of the congruence $\equiv^k$ on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ defined as the transitive closure of the rewriting rule $U ac V_1 b_1 \cdots V_k b_k W \equiv^k U ca V_1 b_1 \cdots V_k b_k W$ for letters $a < b_1, \dots, b_k < c$ and words $U, V_1, \dots, V_k, W$ on $[n]$. We then show that the increasing flip order on $k$-triangulations is the lattice quotient of the weak order by this congruence. Moreover, we use this surjection to define a Hopf subalgebra of C. Malvenuto and C. Reutenauer's Hopf algebra on permutations, indexed by acyclic $k$-triangulations, and to describe the product and coproduct in this algebra and its dual in term of combinatorial operations on acyclic $k$-triangulations. Finally, we extend our results in three directions, describing a Cambrian, a tuple, and a Schröder version of these constructions.

We introduce a new combinatorial structure: the metasylvester lattice on decreasing trees. It appears in the context of the $m$-Tamari lattices and other related $m$-generalizations. The metasylvester congruence has been recently introduced by Novelli and Thibon. We show that it defines a sublattice of the $m$-permutations where elements can be represented by decreasing labelled trees: the metasylvester lattice. We study the combinatorial properties of this new structure. In particular, we give different realizations of the lattice. The $m$-Tamari lattice is by definition a sublattice of our newly defined metasylvester lattice. It leads us to a new realization of the $m$-Tamari lattice, using certain chains of the classical Tamari lattice.

In this paper we consider the characteristic polynomial of not necessarily ranked posets. We do so by allowing the rank to be an arbitrary function from the poset to the nonnegative integers. We will prove two results showing that the characteristic polynomial of a poset has nonnegative integral roots. Our factorization theorems will then be used to show that any interval of the Tamari lattice has a characteristic polynomial which factors in this way. Blass and Sagan's result about LL lattices will also be shown to be a consequence of our factorization theorems. Finally we will use quotient posets to give unified proofs of some classic Möbius function results.

We call a lattice crosscut-simplicial if the crosscut complex of every atomic interval is equal to the boundary of a simplex. Every interval of such a lattice is either contractible or homotopy equivalent to a sphere. Recently, Hersh and Meszaros introduced SB-labellings and proved that if a lattice has an SB-labelling then it is crosscut-simplicial. Some known examples of lattices with a natural SB-labelling include the join-distributive lattices, the weak order of a Coxeter group, and the Tamari lattice. Generalizing these three examples, we prove that every meet-semidistributive lattice is crosscut-simplicial, though we do not know whether all such lattices admit an SB-labelling. While not every crosscut-simplicial lattice is meet-semidistributive, we prove that these properties are equivalent for chamber posets of real hyperplane arrangements.

We introduce a new class of poset edge labelings for locally finite lattices which we call $SB$-labelings. We prove for finite lattices which admit an $SB$-labeling that each open interval has the homotopy type of a ball or of a sphere of some dimension. Natural examples include the weak order, the Tamari lattice, and the finite distributive lattices.

For any finite path $v$ on the square grid consisting of north and east unit steps, starting at (0,0), we construct a poset Tam$(v)$ that consists of all the paths weakly above $v$ with the same number of north and east steps as $v$. For particular choices of $v$, we recover the traditional Tamari lattice and the $m$-Tamari lattice.
Let $\overleftarrow{v}$ be the path obtained from $v$ by reading the unit steps of $v$ in reverse order, replacing the east steps by north steps and vice versa. We show that the poset Tam$(v)$ is isomorphic to the dual of the poset Tam$(\overleftarrow{v})$. We do so by showing bijectively that the poset Tam$(v)$ is isomorphic to the poset based on rotation of full binary trees with the fixed canopy $v$, from which the duality follows easily. This also shows that Tam$(v)$ is a lattice for any path $v$. We also obtain as a corollary of this bijection that the usual Tamari lattice, based on Dyck paths of height $n$, is a partition of the (smaller) lattices Tam$(v)$, where the $v$ are all the paths on the square grid that consist of $n-1$ unit steps.
We explain possible connections between the poset Tam$(v)$ and (the combinatorics of) the generalized diagonal coinvariant spaces of the symmetric group.
Structural Properties of the Cambrian Semilattices -- Consequences of Semidistributivity
The $γ$-Cambrian semilattices $\mathcal{C}_γ$ defined by Reading and Speyer are a family of meet-semilattices associated with a Coxeter group $W$ and a Coxeter element $γ\in W$, and they are lattices if and only if $W$ is finite. In the case where $W$ is the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_{n}$ and $γ$ is the long cycle $(1\;2\;\ldots\;n)$ the corresponding $γ$-Cambrian lattice is isomorphic to the well-known Tamari lattice $\mathcal{T}_{n}$. Recently, Kallipoliti and the author have investigated $\mathcal{C}_γ$ from a topological viewpoint, and showed that many properties of the Tamari lattices can be generalized nicely. In the present article this investigation is continued on a structural level using the observation of Reading and Speyer that $\mathcal{C}_γ$ is semidistributive. First we prove that every closed interval of $\mathcal{C}_γ$ is a bounded-homomorphic image of a free lattice (in fact it is a so-called $\mathcal{H\!H}$-lattice). Subsequently we prove that each closed interval of $\mathcal{C}_γ$ is trim, we determine its breadth, and we characterize the closed intervals that are dismantlable.
The $m$-Cover Posets and Their Applications

In this article we introduce the $m$-cover poset of an arbitrary bounded poset $\mathcal{P}$, which is a certain subposet of the $m$-fold direct product of $\mathcal{P}$ with itself. Its ground set consists of multichains of $\mathcal{P}$ that contain at most three different elements, one of which has to be the least element of $\mathcal{P}$, and the other two elements have to form a cover relation in $\mathcal{P}$. We study the $m$-cover poset from a structural and topological point of view. In particular, we characterize the posets whose $m$-cover poset is a lattice for all $m>0$, and we characterize the special cases, where these lattices are EL-shellable, left-modular, or trim. Subsequently, we investigate the $m$-cover poset of the Tamari lattice $\mathcal{T}_{n}$, and we show that the smallest lattice that contains the $m$-cover poset of $\mathcal{T}_{n}$ is isomorphic to the $m$-Tamari lattice $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$ introduced by Bergeron and Préville-Ratelle. We conclude this article with a conjectural desription of an explicit realization of $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$ in terms of $m$-tuples of Dyck paths.

We use a recently introduced combinatorial object, the interval-poset, to describe two bijections on intervals of the Tamari lattice. Both bijections give a combinatorial proof of some previously known results. The first one is an inner bijection between Tamari intervals that exchanges the initial rise and lower contacts statistics. Those were introduced by Bousquet-Mélou, Fusy, and Préville-Ratelle who proved they were symmetrically distributed but had no combinatorial explanation. The second bijection sends a Tamari interval to a closed flow of an ordered forest. These combinatorial objects were studied by Chapoton in the context of the Pre-Lie operad and the connection with the Tamari order was still unclear.

We introduce new combinatorial objects, the interval- posets, that encode intervals of the Tamari lattice. We then find a combinatorial interpretation of the bilinear operator that appears in the functional equation of Tamari intervals described by Chapoton. Thus, we retrieve this functional equation and prove that the polynomial recursively computed from the bilinear operator on each tree T counts the number of trees smaller than T in the Tamari order. Then we show that a similar m + 1-linear operator is also used in the functionnal equation of m-Tamari intervals. We explain how the m-Tamari lattices can be interpreted in terms of m+1-ary trees or a certain class of binary trees. We then use the interval-posets to recover the functional equation of m-Tamari intervals and to prove a generalized formula that counts the number of elements smaller than or equal to a given tree in the m-Tamari lattice.
Combinatoire algébrique liée aux ordres sur les permutations
This thesis comes within the scope of algebraic combinatorics and studies problems related to three orders on permutations: the two said weak orders (right and left) and the strong order or Bruhat order. The first part deals with bases of multivariate polynomials. Most specifically, we study a product of Grothendieck polynomials and prove that it can interpreted as a sum over the Bruhat order. We also present our implementation of Grothendieck polynomials and other bases in Sage. In a second part, we study the Tamari order binary trees. We obtain a new enumeration formula on the Tamari lattice and a new combinatorial prove of Chapoton's functional equation of the generating functions of Tamari intervals. We extend our results to the m-Tamari case and thus retrieve a formula given by Bousquet-Mélou, Préville-Ratelle and Fusy.
The Strip-Decomposition of m-Dyck Paths
The $m$-Tamari lattices $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$, introduced by Bergeron and Pr{é}ville-Ratelle, are defined as a poset of $m$-Dyck paths equipped with the generalized rotation order, and constitute a Fuss-Catalan generalization of the classical Tamari lattices $\mathcal{T}_{n}$. While for $\mathcal{T}_{n}$ many combinatorial realizations are known, to present there is no further combinatorial realization of $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$. In this article, we introduce a certain decomposition of $m$-Dyck paths into $m$-tuples of Dyck paths, and after a certain modification of these $m$-tuples, we conjecture that the resulting $m$-tuples of Dyck paths realize $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$ as an induced subposet of the $m$-fold direct product of $\mathcal{T}_{n}$ with itself. We are able to prove this conjecture for $n\leq 3$, and provide necessary conditions for $m$-tuples of Dyck paths to belong to this realization. However, for $n\geq 5$, no sufficient condition is known.
Towards m-Cambrian Lattices
For positive integers $m$ and $k$, we introduce a family of lattices $\mathcal{C}_{k}^{(m)}$ associated to the Cambrian lattice $\mathcal{C}_{k}$ of the dihedral group $I_{2}(k)$. We show that $\mathcal{C}_{k}^{(m)}$ satisfies some basic properties of a Fuss-Catalan generalization of $\mathcal{C}_{k}$, namely that $\mathcal{C}_{k}^{(1)}=\mathcal{C}_{k}$ and $\bigl\lvert\mathcal{C}_{k}^{(m)}\bigr\rvert=\mbox{Cat}^{(m)}\bigl(I_{2}(k)\bigr)$. Subsequently, we prove some structural and topological properties of these lattices---namely that they are trim and EL-shellable---which were known for $\mathcal{C}_{k}$ before. Remarkably, our construction coincides in the case $k=3$ with the $m$-Tamari lattice of parameter 3 due to Bergeron and Pr{é}ville-Ratelle. Eventually, we investigate this construction in the context of other Coxeter groups, in particular we conjecture that the lattice completion of the analogous construction for the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_{n}$ and the long cycle $(1\;2\;\ldots\;n)$ is isomorphic to the $m$-Tamari lattice of parameter $n$.
Symmetries of statistics on lattice paths between two boundaries

We prove that on the set of lattice paths with steps N=(0,1) and E=(1,0) that lie between two fixed boundaries T and B (which are themselves lattice paths), the statistics `number of E steps shared with B' and `number of E steps shared with T' have a symmetric joint distribution. To do so, we give an involution that switches these statistics, preserves additional parameters, and generalizes to paths that contain steps S=(0,-1) at prescribed x-coordinates. We also show that a similar equidistribution result for path statistics follows from the fact that the Tutte polynomial of a matroid is independent of the order of its ground set. We extend the two theorems to k-tuples of paths between two boundaries, and we give some applications to Dyck paths, generalizing a result of Deutsch, to watermelon configurations, to pattern-avoiding permutations, and to the generalized Tamari lattice. Finally, we prove a conjecture of Nicolás about the distribution of degrees of k consecutive vertices in k-triangulations of a convex n-gon. To achieve this goal, we provide a new statistic-preserving bijection between certain k-tuples of non-crossing paths and k-flagged semistandard Young tableaux, which is based on local moves reminiscent of jeu de taquin.
Triangulations, orientals, and skew monoidal categories

A concrete model of the free skew-monoidal category Fsk on a single generating object is obtained. The situation is clubbable in the sense of G.M. Kelly, so this allows a description of the free skew-monoidal category on any category. As the objects of Fsk are meaningfully bracketed words in the skew unit I and the generating object X, it is necessary to examine bracketings and to find the appropriate kinds of morphisms between them. This leads us to relationships between triangulations of polygons, the Tamari lattice, left and right bracketing functions, and the orientals. A consequence of our description of Fsk is a coherence theorem asserting the existence of a strictly structure-preserving faithful functor from Fsk to the skew-monoidal category of finite non-empty ordinals and first-element-and-order-preserving functions. This in turn provides a complete solution to the word problem for skew monoidal categories.

We introduce new objects, the interval-posets, that encode intervals of the Tamari lattice. We then find a combinatorial interpretation of the bilinear form that appears in the functional equation of Tamari intervals described by Chapoton. An m-ballot path of size n is a path on the square grid consisting of north and east unit steps, starting at (0,0), ending at (mn,n), and never going below the line {x=my}. The set of these paths can be equipped with a lattice structure, called the m-Tamari lattice and denoted by T_n^{m}, which generalizes the usual Tamari lattice T_n obtained when m=1. This lattice was introduced by F. Bergeron in connection with the study of diagonal coinvariant spaces in three sets of n variables. The representation of the symmetric group S_n on these spaces is conjectured to be closely related to the natural representation of S_n on (labelled) intervals of the m-Tamari lattice, which we study in this paper. An interval [P,Q] of T_n^{m} is labelled if the north steps of Q are labelled from 1 to n in such a way the labels increase along any sequence of consecutive north steps. The symmetric group S_n acts on labelled intervals of T_n^{m} by permutation of the labels. We prove an explicit formula, conjectured by F. Bergeron and the third author, for the character of the associated representation of S_n. In particular, the dimension of the representation, that is, the number of labelled m-Tamari intervals of size n, is found to be (m+1)^n(mn+1)^{n-2}. These results are new, even when m=1. The form of these numbers suggests a connection with parking functions, but our proof is not bijective. The starting point is a recursive description of m-Tamari intervals. It yields an equation for an associated generating function, which is a refined version of the Frobenius series of the representation. This equation involves two additional variables x and y, a derivative with respect to y and iterated divided differences with respect to x. The hardest part of the proof consists in solving it, and we develop original techniques to do so, partly inspired by previous work on polynomial equations with "catalytic" variables.
The Topology of the $m$-Tamari Lattices
The $m$-Tamari lattices $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$ were recently introduced by Bergeron and Préville-Ratelle as posets on $m$-Dyck paths, and it was shown by Bousquet-Mélou, Fusy and Préville-Ratelle that these lattices form intervals in the classical Tamari lattice $\mathcal{T}_{nm}$. It follows from a theorem by Björner and Wachs and a basic property of EL-shellable posets, that the $m$-Tamari lattices are EL-shellable. In this article, we define a new EL-labeling of the $m$-Tamari lattices completely in terms of $m$-Dyck paths. With the help of this labeling, we compute the values of the Möbius function of $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$, and we characterize the intervals of $\mathcal{T}_{n}^{(m)}$ according to their topological properties.

In a tropical approximation, any tree-shaped line soliton solution, a member of the simplest class of soliton solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP-II) equation, determines a chain of planar rooted binary trees, connected by right rotation. More precisely, it determines a maximal chain of a Tamari lattice. We show that an analysis of these solutions naturally involves higher Bruhat and higher Tamari orders.
