For a simple graph $G=(V,E)$ and for a pair of vertices $u,v \in V$, we say that a vertex $w \in V$ resolves $u$ and $v$ if the shortest path from $w$ to $u$ is of a different length than the shortest path from $w$ to $v$. A set of vertices ${R \subseteq V}$ is a resolving set if for every pair of vertices $u$ and $v$ in $G$, there exists a vertex $w \in R$ that resolves $u$ and $v$. The minimum weight resolving set problem is to find a resolving set $M$ for a weighted graph $G$ such that$\sum_{v \in M} w(v)$ is minimum, where $w(v)$ is the weight of vertex $v$. In this paper, we explore the possible solutions of this problem for grid graphs $P_n \square P_m$ where $3\leq n \leq m$. We give a complete characterisation of solutions whose cardinalities are 2 or 3, and show that the maximum cardinality of a solution is $2n-2$. We also provide a characterisation of a class of minimals whose cardinalities range from $4$ to $2n-2$.

Let ${\cal G}=(G,w)$ be a weighted simple finite connected graph, that is, let $G$ be a simple finite connected graph endowed with a function $w$ from the set of the edges of $G$ to the set of real numbers. For any subgraph $G'$ of $G$, we define $w(G')$ to be the sum of the weights of the edges of $G'$. For any $i,j $ vertices of $G$, we define $D_{\{i,j\}} ({\cal G})$ to be the minimum of the weights of the simple paths of $G$ joining $i$ and $j$. The $D_{\{i,j\}} ({\cal G})$ are called $2$-weights of ${\cal G}$.
Let $\{m_I\}_{I \in {\{1,...,n\} \choose 2}}$ and $\{M_I\}_{I \in {\{1,...,n\} \choose 2}}$ be two families of positive real numbers parametrized by the $2$-subsets of $ \{1,..., n\}$ with $m_I \leq M_I$ for any $I$; we study when there exist a positive-weighted graph ${\cal G}$ and an $n$-subset $\{1,..., n\}$ of the set of its vertices such that $D_I ({\cal G}) \in [m_I, M_I] $ for any $I \in {\{1,...,n\} \choose 2}$. Then we study the analogous problem for trees, both in the case of positive weights and in the case of general weights.
Thin Tree Position
We introduce a method for creating a special type of tree, called a tree position, from a weighted graph. Leaves of the tree correspond to vertices of the original graph, and the tree edges contain information which can be used to partition these vertices. By repeatedly applying reducing operations to the tree position we arrive at a special type of tree position we call thin, and we show that partitions arising from thin tree positions have especially nice properties. The algorithm is based the topological notion of thin position for knots and 3-manifolds and builds on the previously defined idea of a Topological Intrinsic Lexicographic Order (TILO).

We introduce and study the weighted $r$-path ideal of a weighted graph $G_ω$, which is a common generalization of Conca and De Negri's $r$-path ideal for unweighted graphs and Paulsen and Sather-Wagstaff's edge ideal of the weighted graph. Over a field, we explicitly describe primary decompositions of these ideals, and we characterize Cohen-Macaulayness of these ideals for trees (with arbitrary $r$) and complete graphs (for $r=2$).
On the distance preserving trees in graphs
For a vertex $v$ of a graph $G$, a spanning tree $T$ of $G$ is distance-preserving from $v$ if, for any vertex $w$, the distance from $v$ to $w$ on $T$ is the same as the distance from $v$ to $w$ on $G$. If two vertices $u$ and $v$ are distinct, then two distance-preserving spanning trees $T_{u}$ from $u$ and $T_{v}$ from $v$ are distinct in general. A purpose of this paper is to give a characterization for a given weighted graph $G$ to have a spanning tree $T$ such that $T$ is a distance-preserving spanning tree from distinct two vertices.

We derive an optimal eigenvalue ratio estimate for finite weighted graphs satisfying the curvature-dimension inequality $CD(0,\infty)$. This estimate is independent of the size of the graph and provides a general method to obtain higher order spectral estimates. The operation of taking Cartesian products is shown to be an efficient way for constructing new weighted graphs satisfying $CD(0,\infty)$. We also discuss a higher order Cheeger constant ratio estimate and related topics about expanders.

Let G be a finite connected simple graph. We define the moduli space of conformal structures on G. We propose a definition of conformally covariant operators on graphs, motivated by [25]. We provide examples of conformally covariant operators, which include the edge Laplacian and the adjacency matrix on graphs. In the case where such an operator has a nontrivial kernel, we construct conformal invariants, providing discrete counterparts of several results in [11,12] established for Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we show that the nodal sets and nodal domains of null eigenvectors are conformal invariants.
A Polyhedral Proof of the Matrix Tree Theorem
The classical matrix tree theorem relates the number of spanning trees of a connected graph with the product of the nonzero eigenvalues of its Laplacian matrix. The class of regular matroids generalizes that of graphical matroids, and a generalization of the matrix tree theorem holds for this wider class.
We give a new, geometric proof of this fact by showing via a dissect-and-rearrange argument that two combinatorially distinct zonotopes associated to a regular matroid have the same volume. Along the way we prove that for a regular oriented matroid represented by a unimodular matrix, the lattice spanned by its cocircuits coincides with the lattice spanned by the rows of the representation matrix.
Finally, by extending our setup to the weighted case we give new proofs of recent results of An et al. on weighted graphs, and extend them to cover regular matroids.
No use is made of the Cauchy-Binet Theorem nor divisor theory on graphs.

Recently, the theory of dense graph limits has received attention from multiple disciplines including graph theory, computer science, statistical physics, probability, statistics, and group theory. In this paper we initiate the study of the general structure of differentiable graphon parameters $F$. We derive consistency conditions among the higher Gâteaux derivatives of $F$ when restricted to the subspace of edge weighted graphs $\mathcal{W}_{\bf p}$. Surprisingly, these constraints are rigid enough to imply that the multilinear functionals $Λ: \mathcal{W}_{\bf p}^n \to \mathbb{R}$ satisfying the constraints are determined by a finite set of constants indexed by isomorphism classes of multigraphs with $n$ edges and no isolated vertices. Using this structure theory, we explain the central role that homomorphism densities play in the analysis of graphons, by way of a new combinatorial interpretation of their derivatives. In particular, homomorphism densities serve as the monomials in a polynomial algebra that can be used to approximate differential graphon parameters as Taylor polynomials. These ideas are summarized by our main theorem, which asserts that homomorphism densities $t(H,-)$ where $H$ has at most $N$ edges form a basis for the space of smooth graphon parameters whose $(N+1)$st derivatives vanish. As a consequence of this theory, we also extend and derive new proofs of linear independence of multigraph homomorphism densities, and characterize homomorphism densities. In addition, we develop a theory of series expansions, including Taylor's theorem for graph parameters and a uniqueness principle for series. We use this theory to analyze questions raised by Lovász, including studying infinite quantum algebras and the connection between right- and left-homomorphism densities.

What is the probability that the number of triangles in $\mathcal{G}_{n,p}$, the Erdős-Rényi random graph with edge density $p$, is at least twice its mean? Writing it as $\exp[- r(n,p)]$, already the order of the rate function $r(n,p)$ was a longstanding open problem when $p=o(1)$, finally settled in 2012 by Chatterjee and by DeMarco and Kahn, who independently showed that $r(n,p)\asymp n^2p^2 \log (1/p)$ for $p \gtrsim \frac{\log n}n$; the exact asymptotics of $r(n,p)$ remained unknown.
The following variational problem can be related to this large deviation question at $p\gtrsim \frac{\log n}n$: for $δ>0$ fixed, what is the minimum asymptotic $p$-relative entropy of a weighted graph on $n$ vertices with triangle density at least $(1+δ)p^3$? A beautiful large deviation framework of Chatterjee and Varadhan (2011) reduces upper tails for triangles to a limiting version of this problem for fixed $p$. A very recent breakthrough of Chatterjee and Dembo extended its validity to $n^{-α}\ll p \ll 1$ for an explicit $α>0$, and plausibly it holds in all of the above sparse regime.
In this note we show that the solution to the variational problem is $\min\{\frac12 δ^{2/3}\,,\, \frac13 δ\}$ when $n^{-1/2}\ll p \ll 1$ vs. $\frac12 δ^{2/3}$ when $n^{-1} \ll p\ll n^{-1/2}$ (the transition between these regimes is expressed in the count of triangles minus an edge in the minimizer). From the results of Chatterjee and Dembo, this shows for instance that the probability that $\mathcal{G}_{n,p}$ for $ n^{-α} \leq p \ll 1$ has twice as many triangles as its expectation is $\exp[-r(n,p)]$ where $r(n,p)\sim \frac13 n^2 p^2\log(1/p)$. Our results further extend to $k$-cliques for any fixed $k$, as well as give the order of the upper tail rate function for an arbitrary fixed subgraph when $p\geq n^{-α}$.

The theory of Ihara zeta functions is extended to infinite graphs which are weighted and of finite total weight. In this case one gets meromorphic instead of rational functions and the classical determinant formulas of Bass and Ihara hold true with Fredholm determinants.
From the Ising and Potts models to the general graph homomorphism polynomial
In this note we study some of the properties of the generating polynomial for homomorphisms from a graph to at complete weighted graph on $q$ vertices. We discuss how this polynomial relates to a long list of other well known graph polynomials and the partition functions for different spin models, many of which are specialisations of the homomorphism polynomial.
We also identify the smallest graphs which are not determined by their homomorphism polynomials for $q=2$ and $q=3$ and compare this with the corresponding minimal examples for the $U$-polynomial, which generalizes the well known Tutte-polynomal.

Let $G_w$ be a weighted graph. The number of the positive, negative and zero eigenvalues in the spectrum of $G_w$ are called positive inertia index, negative inertia index and nullity of $G_w$, and denoted by $i_{+}(G_w)$, $i_{-}(G_w)$, $i_{0}(G_w)$, respectively. In this paper, sharp lower bound on the positive (resp. negative) inertia index of weighted bicyclic graphs of order $n$ with pendant vertices is obtained. Moreover, all the weighted bicyclic graphs of order $n$ with at most two positive, two negative and at least $n-4$ zero eigenvalues are identified, respectively.
Beyond Log-Supermodularity: Lower Bounds and the Bethe Partition Function
A recent result has demonstrated that the Bethe partition function always lower bounds the true partition function of binary, log-supermodular graphical models. We demonstrate that these results can be extended to other interesting classes of graphical models that are not necessarily binary or log-supermodular: the ferromagnetic Potts model with a uniform external field and its generalizations and special classes of weighted graph homomorphism problems.
On the determinant of hexagonal grids $H_{k,n}$
We analyse the problem of singularity of graphs for hexagonal grid graphs. We introduce methods for transforming weighted graph, which do not change the determinant of adjacency matrix. We use these methods to calculate the determinant of all hexagonal grid graphs which describe certain hexagon-shaped benzenoid systems. The final result is the explicit formula for the determinant of graphs $H_{k,n}$. From the theorem we draw the conclusion, that all graphs of this kind are non-singular.
On the positive and negative inertia of weighted graphs
The number of the positive, negative and zero eigenvalues in the spectrum of the (edge)-weighted graph $G$ are called positive inertia index, negative inertia index and nullity of the weighted graph $G$, and denoted by $i_+(G)$, $i_-(G)$, $i_0(G)$, respectively. In this paper, the positive and negative inertia index of weighted trees, weighted unicyclic graphs and weighted bicyclic graphs are discussed, the methods of calculating them are obtained.

Let $G_w$ be a weighted graph. The \textit{inertia} of $G_w$ is the triple $In(G_w)=\big(i_+(G_w),i_-(G_w), $ $ i_0(G_w)\big)$, where $i_+(G_w),i_-(G_w),i_0(G_w)$ are the number of the positive, negative and zero eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix $A(G_w)$ of $G_w$ including their multiplicities, respectively. $i_+(G_w)$, $i_-(G_w)$ is called the \textit{positive, negative index of inertia} of $G_w$, respectively. In this paper we present a lower bound for the positive, negative index of weighted unicyclic graphs of order $n$ with fixed girth and characterize all weighted unicyclic graphs attaining this lower bound. Moreover, we characterize the weighted unicyclic graphs of order $n$ with two positive, two negative and at least $n-6$ zero eigenvalues, respectively.
On the spectral distribution of large weighted random regular graphs

McKay proved that the limiting spectral measures of the ensembles of $d$-regular graphs with $N$ vertices converge to Kesten's measure as $N\to\infty$. In this paper we explore the case of weighted graphs. More precisely, given a large $d$-regular graph we assign random weights, drawn from some distribution $\mathcal{W}$, to its edges. We study the relationship between $\mathcal{W}$ and the associated limiting spectral distribution obtained by averaging over the weighted graphs. Among other results, we establish the existence of a unique `eigendistribution', i.e., a weight distribution $\mathcal{W}$ such that the associated limiting spectral distribution is a rescaling of $\mathcal{W}$. Initial investigations suggested that the eigendistribution was the semi-circle distribution, which by Wigner's Law is the limiting spectral measure for real symmetric matrices. We prove this is not the case, though the deviation between the eigendistribution and the semi-circular density is small (the first seven moments agree, and the difference in each higher moment is $O(1/d^2)$). Our analysis uses combinatorial results about closed acyclic walks in large trees, which may be of independent interest.

We generalize the matroid-theoretic approach to greedy algorithms to the setting of poset matroids, in the sense of Barnabei, Nicoletti and Pezzoli (1998) [BNP]. We illustrate our result by providing a generalization of Kruskal algorithm (which finds a minimum spanning subtree of a weighted graph) to abstract simplicial complexes.

Let $Γ$ be a compact tropical curve (or metric graph) of genus $g$. Using the theory of tropical theta functions, Mikhalkin and Zharkov proved that there is a canonical effective representative (called a break divisor) for each linear equivalence class of divisors of degree $g$ on $Γ$. We present a new combinatorial proof of the fact that there is a unique break divisor in each equivalence class, establishing in the process an "integral" version of this result which is of independent interest. As an application, we provide a "geometric proof" of (a dual version of) Kirchhoff's celebrated Matrix-Tree Theorem. Indeed, we show that each weighted graph model $G$ for $Γ$ gives rise to a canonical polyhedral decomposition of the $g$-dimensional real torus ${\rm Pic}^g(Γ)$ into parallelotopes $C_T$, one for each spanning tree $T$ of $G$, and the dual Kirchhoff theorem becomes the statement that the volume of ${\rm Pic}^g(Γ)$ is the sum of the volumes of the cells in the decomposition.
