Conflict-free coloring on open neighborhoods of claw-free graphs
The `Conflict-Free Open (Closed) Neighborhood coloring', abbreviated CFON (CFCN) coloring, of a graph $G$ using $r$ colors is a coloring of the vertices of $G$ such that every vertex sees some color exactly once in its open (closed) neighborhood. The minimum $r$ such that $G$ has a CFON (CFCN) coloring using $r$ colors is called the `CFON chromatic number' (`CFCN chromatic number') of $G$. This is denoted by $χ_{CF}^{ON}(G)$ ($χ_{CF}^{CN}(G)$). D\k ebski and Przybyło in [J. Graph Theory, 2021] showed that if $G$ is a line graph with maximum degree $Δ$, then $χ_{CF}^{CN}(G) = O(\ln Δ)$. As an open question, they asked if the result could be extended to claw-free ($K_{1,3}$-free) graphs, which are a superclass of line graphs. For $k\geq 3$, we show that if $G$ is $K_{1,k}$-free, then $χ_{CF}^{ON}(G) = O(k^2\ln Δ)$. Since it is known that the CFCN chromatic number of a graph is at most twice its CFON chromatic number, this answers the question posed by Dębski and Przybyło.
Functional relations for higher-order free cumulants
We establish the functional relations between generating series of higher-order free cumulants and moments in higher-order free probability, solving an open problem posed fifteen years ago by Collins, Mingo, Śniady and Speicher. We propose an extension of free probability theory, which governs the all-order topological expansion in unitarily invariant matrix ensembles, with a corresponding notion of free cumulants and give as well their relation to moments via functional relations. Our approach is based on the study of a master transformation involving double monotone Hurwitz numbers via semi-infinite wedge techniques, building on the recent advances of the last-named author with Bychkov, Dunin-Barkowski and Kazarian. We illustrate our formulas by computing the first few decaying terms of the correlation functions of an ensemble of spiked GUE matrices, going beyond the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem.

Covering three-tori with cubes
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $μ(\varepsilon)$ be the minimum number of cubes of side $\varepsilon$ needed to cover the unit three-torus $[\mathbb{R}/\mathbb{Z}]^3$. We prove new lower and upper bounds for $μ(\varepsilon)$ and find the exact value for all $\varepsilon\geq\frac{7}{15}$ and all $\varepsilon\in\left[\frac{1}{r+1/(r^2+r+1)},\frac{1}{r-1/(r^2-1)}\right)$ for any integer $r\geq 2$.

On the role of the Fibonacci matrix as key in modified ECC
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, we have proposed a modified cryptographic scheme based on the application of recursive matrices as key in ECC and ElGamal. For encryption, we consider mapping analogous to affine Hill cipher in which a plaintext matrix has been constructed by points corresponding to letters on elliptic curves. In the formation of key-space, the generalized Fibonacci matrices have been taken into account, which is the sequence of matrices. The beauty of considering Fibonacci matrices is their construction where we need only two parameters(integers) in place of $n^2$ elements. The use of a recursive matrix makes a large keyspace for our proposed scheme and increases its efficiency. Thus, it reduces time as well space complexity, and its security \& strength is based on EC-DLP which is a hard problem in number theory.

Empirically Improved Tokuda Gap Sequence in Shellsort
Experiments are conducted to improve Tokuda (1992) gap sequence in Shellsort into $γ$-sequences, and the best result is the gap sequence in which the $k$-th increment $h_k$ is given by \begin{align} h_k=\left\lceil \frac{γ^k-1}{γ-1} \right\rceil \end{align} , where $γ=2.243609061420001...$ and $k\in\mathbb{N}_1$. The first few increments of the gap sequence are \begin{align} 1,\, 4,\, 9,\, 20,\, 45,\, 102,\, 230,\, 516,\,1158,\,2599,\,5831,\,13082,\,29351,\,65853,\, 147748,\,331490,\,743735,\, ...\end{align}It empirically yields less numbers of comparison on average than Tokuda (1992) gap sequence. In the procedure of search, it reveals the potential existence of a new type of fractal.

Optimal Gap Sequences in Shellsort for $n\leq16$ Elements
Optimal gap sequences in Shellsort, defined as gap sequences having the minimised maximum number of comparisons for a fixed number of pairwise distinct elements, are found by minimax search in reduced permutational spaces, namely Bad $(s,1)$-sorted permutations. Exact optimal gap sequences in Shellsort for $n\leq16$ pairwise distinct elements are established, and the best known gap sequences for $17\leq n\leq 30$ are listed with conjectures made. It notably discovers some optimal gap sequences consist of increments larger than the half of the total number of the elements to sort.

Generalized Turán problems for double stars
Published • View Publication • BIB
We study the generalized Turán function $ex(n,H,F)$, when $H$ or $F$ is a double star $S_{a,b}$, which is a tree with a central edge $uv$, $a$ leaves connected to $u$ and $b$ leaves connected to $v$. We determine $ex(n,K_k,S_{a,b})$ and $ex(n,S_{a,b},F)$ for sufficiently large $n$, where $F$ is either a 3-chromatic graph with an edge whose deletion results in a bipartite graph, or the 2-fan, i.e. two triangles sharing a vertex. We also give bounds on $ex(n,S_{a,b},S_{c,d})$.
On the palindromic Hosoya polynomial of trees
Published • View Publication • BIB
A graph $G$ on $n$ vertices of diameter $D$ is called $H$-palindromic if $α(G,k) = α(G,D-k)$ for all $k=0, 1, \dots, \left \lfloor{\frac{D}{2}}\right \rfloor$, where $α(G,k)$ is the number of unordered pairs of vertices at distance $k$. Quantities $α(G,k)$ form coefficients of the Hosoya polynomial. In 1999, Caporossi, Dobrynin, Gutman and Hansen showed that there are exactly five $H$-palindromic trees of even diameter and conjectured that there are no such trees of odd diameter. We prove this conjecture for bipartite graphs. An infinite family of $H$-palindromic trees of diameter $6$ is also constructed.

Exponential decay of intersection volume with applications on list-decodability and Gilbert-Varshamov type bound
Published • View Publication • BIB
We give some natural sufficient conditions for balls in a metric space to have small intersection. Roughly speaking, this happens when the metric space is (i) expanding and (ii) well-spread, and (iii) a certain random variable on the boundary of a ball has a small tail. As applications, we show that the volume of intersection of balls in Hamming, Johnson spaces and symmetric groups decay exponentially as their centers drift apart. To verify condition (iii), we prove some large deviation inequalities `on a slice' for functions with Lipschitz conditions. We then use these estimates on intersection volumes to $\bullet$ obtain a sharp lower bound on list-decodability of random $q$-ary codes, confirming a conjecture of Li and Wootters; and $\bullet$ improve the classical bound of Levenshtein from 1971 on constant weight codes by a factor linear in dimension, resolving a problem raised by Jiang and Vardy. Our probabilistic point of view also offers a unified framework to obtain improvements on other Gilbert--Varshamov type bounds, giving conceptually simple and calculation-free proofs for $q$-ary codes, permutation codes, and spherical codes. Another consequence is a counting result on the number of codes, showing ampleness of large codes.

Regular semigroups weakly generated by idempotents
Published • View Publication • BIB
A regular semigroup is weakly generated by a set X if it has no proper regular subsemigroups containing X. In this paper, we study the regular semigroups weakly generated by idempotents. We show there exists a regular semigroup FI(X) weakly generated by |X| idempotents such that all other regular semigroups weakly generated by |X| idempotents are homomorphic images of FI(X). The semigroup FI(X) is defined by a presentation $\langle G(X),ρ_e\cupρ_s\rangle$ and its structure is studied. Although each of the sets $G(X)$, $ρ_e$, and $ρ_s$ is infinite for $|X|\geq 2$, we show that the word problem is decidable as each congruence class has a canonical form. If $FI_n$ denotes FI(X) for $|X|=n$, we prove also that $FI_2$ contains copies of all $FI_n$ as subsemigroups. As a consequence, we conclude that (i) all regular semigroups weakly generated by a finite set of idempotents, which include all finitely idempotent generated regular semigroups, strongly divide $FI_2$; and (ii) all finite semigroups divide $FI_2$.
Lower bounds for Ramsey numbers as a statistical physics problem
Published in J. Stat. Mech. (2022) 033211 • View Publication • BIB
Ramsey's theorem, concerning the guarantee of certain monochromatic patterns in large enough edge-coloured complete graphs, is a fundamental result in combinatorial mathematics. In this work, we highlight the connection between this abstract setting and a statistical physics problem. Specifically, we design a classical Hamiltonian that favours configurations in a way to establish lower bounds on Ramsey numbers. As a proof of principle we then use Monte Carlo methods to obtain such lower bounds, finding rough agreement with known literature values in a few cases we investigated. We discuss numerical limitations of our approach and indicate a path towards the treatment of larger graph sizes.

Prime Factorization of Meanders
In this paper, we introduce a prime factorization of open meanders, articulated through the framework of 2-colored operads. We demonstrate that each open meander can be canonically constructed from building blocks of two types: iterated snakes and irreducible meanders. We find out that iterated snakes allow efficient enumeration, and thus the problem of enumerating meanders reduces to the problem of enumerating irreducible meanders. Additionally, we present some results concerning the asymptotic of meanders of both classes.

On Multiplayer Chomp Theory
Decades after David Gale presented the concept of Chomp and S.-Y.R. Li produced his very first multiplayer model to investigate Multiplayer Nim, we hereby establish another Multiplayer Model to specifically analyze Chomp. Under such model, we will re-define 'positions', 'rules' and other basic concepts and try our best to analyze the relationship between different rules and corresponding positions.

Graphs with three distinct distance eigenvalues
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, some special distance spectral properties of graphs are considered. Concretely, we recursively construct an infinite family of trees with distance eigenvalue $-1$, and determine all $\{C_3,C_4\}$-free connected graphs with three distinct distance eigenvalues of which the smallest one is equal to $-3$, which partially answers a problem posed by Koolen, Hayat and Iqbal [Linear Algebra Appl. 505 (2016) 97--108]. Furthermore, we characterize all trees with three distinct distance eigenvalues.

On the metric subgraphs of a graph
Published • View Publication • BIB
The three subgraphs of a connected graph induced by the center, annulus and periphery are called its metric subgraphs. The main results are as follows. (1) There exists a graph of order $n$ whose metric subgraphs are all paths if and only if $n\ge 13$ and the smallest size of such a graph of order $13$ is $22;$ (2) there exists a graph of order $n$ whose metric subgraphs are all cycles if and only if $n\ge 15,$ and there are exactly three such graphs of order $15;$ (3) for every integer $k\ge 3,$ we determine the possible orders for the existence of a graph whose metric subgraphs are all connected $k$-regular graphs; (4) there exists a graph of order $n$ whose metric subgraphs are connected and pairwise isomorphic if and only if $n\ge 24$ and $n$ is divisible by $3.$ An unsolved problem is posed.

Entiers monomialement irr{é}ductibles
In this article we study the combinatorics of congruence subgroups of the modular group. We consider the notion of minimal monomial solutions. These are the solutions of a matrix equation (also appearing in the study of Coxeter friezes), modulo an integer $N$, whose components are identical and minimal for this property. Our objective is to study the integers $N$ for which all these solutions have a certain irreducibility property.
On the domination number of $t$-constrained de Bruijn graphs
Published in Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 24, no 2, Graph Theory (August 22, 2022) dmtcs:8879 • View Publication • BIB
Motivated by the work on the domination number of directed de Bruijn graphs and some of its generalizations, in this paper we introduce a natural generalization of de Bruijn graphs (directed and undirected), namely $t$-constrained de Bruijn graphs, where $t$ is a positive integer, and then study the domination number of these graphs. Within the definition of $t$-constrained de Bruijn graphs, de Bruijn and Kautz graphs correspond to 1-constrained and 2-constrained de Bruijn graphs, respectively. This generalization inherits many structural properties of de Bruijn graphs and may have similar applications in interconnection networks or bioinformatics. We establish upper and lower bounds for the domination number on $t$-constrained de Bruijn graphs both in the directed and in the undirected case. These bounds are often very close and in some cases we are able to find the exact value.

Coincident-point rigidity in normed planes
Published • View Publication • BIB
A bar-joint framework $(G,p)$ is the combination of a graph $G$ and a map $p$ assigning positions, in some space, to the vertices of $G$. The framework is rigid if every edge-length-preserving continuous motion of the vertices arises from an isometry of the space. We will analyse rigidity when the space is a (non-Euclidean) normed plane and two designated vertices are mapped to the same position. This non-genericity assumption leads us to a count matroid first introduced by Jackson, Kaszanitsky and the third author. We show that independence in this matroid is equivalent to independence as a suitably regular bar-joint framework in a normed plane with two coincident points; this characterises when a regular normed plane coincident-point framework is rigid and allows us to deduce a delete-contract characterisation. We then apply this result to show that an important construction operation (generalised vertex splitting) preserves the stronger property of global rigidity in normed planes and use this to construct rich families of globally rigid graphs when the normed plane is analytic.

Stratifying the space of barcodes using Coxeter complexes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We use tools from geometric group theory to produce a stratification of the space $\mathcal{B}_n$ of barcodes with $n$ bars. The top-dimensional strata are indexed by permutations associated to barcodes as defined by Kanari, Garin and Hess. More generally, the strata correspond to marked double cosets of parabolic subgroups of the symmetric group $Sym_n$. This subdivides $\mathcal{B}_n$ into regions that consist of barcodes with the same averages and standard deviations of birth and death times and the same permutation type. We obtain coordinates that form a new invariant of barcodes, extending the one of Kanari-Garin-Hess. This description also gives rise to metrics on $\mathcal{B}_n$ that coincide with modified versions of the bottleneck and Wasserstein metrics.

Wreath Macdonald polynomials at q=t as characters of rational Cherednik algebras
Published in Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 375 (2022), 8945-8968 • View Publication • BIB
Using the theory of Macdonald, Gordon showed that the graded characters of the simple modules for the restricted rational Cherednik algebra by Etingof and Ginzburg associated to the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ are given by plethystically transformed Macdonald polynomials specialized at q=t. We generalize this to restricted rational Cherednik algebras of wreath product groups $C_\ell \wr \mathfrak{S}_n$ and prove that the corresponding characters are given by a specialization of the wreath Macdonald polynomials defined by Haiman.
