We describe the simplicial complex $Δ$ such that the initial ideal of $J_G$ is the Stanley-Reisner ideal of $Δ$. By $Δ$ we show that if $J_G$ is $(S_2)$ then $G$ is accessible. We also characterize all accessible blocks with whiskers of cycle rank 3 and we define a new infinite class of accessible blocks with whiskers for any cycle rank. Finally, by using a computational approach, we show that the graphs with at most 12 vertices whose binomial edge ideal is Cohen-Macaulay are all and only the accessible ones.
Cross-ratio degrees and perfect matchings

Cross-ratio degrees count configurations of points $z_1,\ldots, z_n \in \mathbb{P}^1$ satisfying $n - 3$ cross-ratio constraints, up to isomorphism. These numbers arise in multiple contexts in algebraic and tropical geometry, and may be viewed as combinatorial invariants of certain hypergraphs. We prove an upper bound on cross-ratio degrees in terms of the theory of perfect matchings on bipartite graphs. We also discuss several of the many perspectives on cross-ratio degrees -- including a connection to Gromov-Witten theory -- and give many example computations.

We give $\mathbb{Z}$-bases for the homology and cohomology of the configuration space $\operatorname{config}(n,w)$ of $n$ unit disks in an infinite strip of width $w$, first studied by Alpert, Kahle and MacPherson. We also study the way these spaces evolve both as $n$ increases (using the framework of representation stability) and as $w$ increases (using the framework of persistent homology). Finally, we include some results about the cup product in the cohomology and about the configuration space of unordered disks.
Representation of Dyck words in tensors that zipper merge contiguous integer compositions
Let $0<k\in\mathbb{Z}$. We zipper-merge integer compositions with sums $k$ and $k+1$, equal number of parts and initial entries equal at least to 1 and 2, respectively. This yields bitstrings with two initial zeros, $k-1$ remaining zeros and $k$ ones. Tensors whose entries are such bitstrings contain unique representations of all Dyck words of length $2k$. If rows and columns of such tensors are disposed in descending lexicographic order, then their entries not representing Dyck words form disjoint unions of descending staircases corresponding to strict lower triangular submatrices.

Given a collection of graphs $\mathbf{G}=(G_1, \ldots, G_m)$ with the same vertex set, an $m$-edge graph $H\subset \cup_{i\in [m]}G_i$ is a transversal if there is a bijection $φ:E(H)\to [m]$ such that $e\in E(G_{φ(e)})$ for each $e\in E(H)$. We give asymptotically-tight minimum degree conditions for a graph collection on an $n$-vertex set to have a transversal which is a copy of a graph $H$, when $H$ is an $n$-vertex graph which is an $F$-factor or a tree with maximum degree $o(n/\log n)$.
Unrefinable partitions into distinct parts in a normalizer chain

In a recent paper on a study of the Sylow 2-subgroups of the symmetric group with 2^n elements it has been show that the growth of the first (n-2) consecutive indices of a certain normalizer chain is linked to the sequence of partitions of integers into distinct parts. Unrefinable partitions into distinct parts are those in which no part x can be replaced with integers whose sum is x obtaining a new partition into distinct parts. We prove here that the (n-1)-th index of the previously mentioned chain is related to the number of unrefinable partitions into distinct parts satisfying a condition on the minimal excludant.
Consecutive patterns in circular permutations
In their study of cyclic pattern containment, Domagalski et al. conjecture differential equations for the generating functions of circular permutations avoiding consecutive patterns of length 3. In this note, we prove and significantly generalize these conjectures. We show that, for every consecutive pattern $σ$ beginning with 1, the bivariate generating function counting occurrences of $σ$ in circular permutations can be obtained from the generating function counting occurrences of $σ$ in (linear) permutations. This includes all the patterns for which the latter generating function is known.
A Method for Uniformly Proving a Family of Identities

This paper presents both a proof method and a result. The proof method presented is particularly suitable for uniformly proving families of identities satisfied by a family of recursive sequences. To illustrate the method, we study the family of recursive sequences $F^{(k)}_n = \sum_{i=1}^k F^{(k)}_{n-i}, n \ge 0, k \ge 2,$ with $n$ a parameter varying over integers, and $k$ a parameter indexing members of the family. The main theorem states $ F^{(k)}_n = \sum_{j=1}^k P_{k,j} F^{(k)}_{n-jk},$ with $P$ a recursive triangle satisfying the triangle recursion $P_{i,j}=2P_{i-1,j}- P_{i-1,j-1},$ with appropriate initial conditions. The proof of the theorem exploits the fact that characteristic polynomials of identities are divisible by the characteristic polynomial of the recursion generating the underlying sequence.
An Improved Lower Bound for $S(7)$ and Some Interesting Templates
In this simple paper, we exhibit a Schur partition giving rise to a triangle-free linear colouring of $K_{1697}$ in 7 colours. Thus we show that the Schur number $S(7) \ge 1696$ and the multicolour Ramsey number $R_{7}(3) \ge 1698$.
We also demonstrate a specific partition of the closed integer interval $[1, 376]$ which, through repeated use of a specific construction, allows us to conclude that $S(k+5) \ge 376.S(k)+160$ for any positive integer $k$. The existence of this partition, with its specific properties, implies that $\lim_{\substack{r \rightarrow \infty}} R{_r}(3)^{1/r} > 3.273$.

We prove the first $χ$-bounding function for circle graphs that is optimal up to a constant factor. To be more precise, we prove that every circle graph with clique number at most $ω$ has chromatic number at most $2ω\log_2 (ω) +2ω\log_2(\log_2 (ω)) + 10ω$.

In our previous work, we investigated the relation between zeta functions and discrete-time models including random and quantum walks. In this paper, we introduce a zeta function for the continuous-time model (CTM) and consider CTMs including the corresponding random and quantum walks on the d-dimensional torus.
On the homology theory for the chromatic polynomials
In \cite{10.2140/agt.2005.5.1365}, Rong and Helme-Guizon defined a categorification for the chromatic polynomial $P_G(x)$ of graphs $G$, i.e. a homology theory $H^*(G)$ whose Euler characteristic equals $P_G(x)$. In this paper, we showed that the rational homoology $H^*(G;\mathbb{Q})$ is supported in two lines, and develop an analogy of Lee's theory for Khovanov homology. In particular, we develop a new homology theory $H_{Lee}(G)$, and showed that there is a spectral sequence whose $E_2$ -term is isomorphic to $H^*(G)$ converges to $H_{Lee}(G)$.
Stable graphs of bounded twin-width
We prove that every class of graphs $\mathscr C$ that is monadically stable and has bounded twin-width can be transduced from some class with bounded sparse twin-width. This generalizes analogous results for classes of bounded linear cliquewidth and of bounded cliquewidth. It also implies that monadically stable classes of bounded twin-widthare linearly $χ$-bounded.

This paper discusses the complete structure of the (bull, diamond)-free graphs. As an application of that, we give the characterization of the partitionable (bull, diamond)-free graphs. Moreover, we show that such a partition for a partitionable (bull, diamond)-free graph can be found in polynomial time. Additionally, we show that the cop number of a (bull, diamond)-free graph containing a triangle is at most two less than its diameter. Furthermore, the cop number of a connected ($P_n$, bull, diamond)-free graph with a triangle, is at most $n-3$, for any natural number $n>3$. We also discuss a couple of applications of the structural theorem of the (bull, diamond)-free graphs in the conclusions.
Using edge contractions to reduce the semitotal domination number

In this paper, we consider the problem of reducing the semitotal domination number of a given graph by contracting $k$ edges, for some fixed $k \geq 1$. We show that this can always be done with at most 3 edge contractions and further characterise those graphs requiring 1, 2 or 3 edge contractions, respectively, to decrease their semitotal domination number. We then study the complexity of the problem for $k=1$ and obtain in particular a complete complexity dichotomy for monogenic classes.
Some sum-product estimates in matrix rings over finite fields

We study some sum-product problems over matrix rings. Firstly, for $A, B, C\subseteq M_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$, we have $$ |A+BC|\gtrsim q^{n^2}, $$ whenever $|A||B||C|\gtrsim q^{3n^2-\frac{n+1}{2}}$. Secondly, if a set $A$ in $M_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ satisfies $|A|\geq C(n)q^{n^2-1}$ for some sufficiently large $C(n)$, then we have $$ \max\{|A+A|, |AA|\}\gtrsim \min\left\{\frac{|A|^2}{q^{n^2-\frac{n+1}{4}}}, q^{n^2/3}|A|^{2/3}\right\}. $$ These improve the results due to The and Vinh (2020), and generalize the results due to Mohammadi, Pham, and Wang (2021). We also give a new proof for a recent result due to The and Vinh (2020). Our method is based on spectral graph theory and linear algebra.
Algorithmic aspects of quasi-kernels

In a digraph, a quasi-kernel is a subset of vertices that is independent and such that every vertex can reach some vertex in that set via a directed path of length at most two. Whereas Chvátal and Lovász proved in 1974 that every digraph has a quasi-kernel, very little is known so far about the complexity of finding small quasi-kernels. In 1976 Erdős and Székely conjectured that every sink-free digraph $D = (V, A)$ has a quasi-kernel of size at most $|V|/2$. Obviously, if $D$ has two disjoint quasi-kernels then it has a quasi-kernel of size at most $|V|/2$, and in 2001 Gutin, Koh, Tay and Yeo conjectured that every sink-free digraph has two disjoint quasi-kernels. Yet, they constructed in 2004 a counterexample, thereby disproving this stronger conjecture. We shall show that, not only sink-free digraphs occasionally fail to contain two disjoint quasi-kernels, but it is computationally hard to distinguish those that do from those that do not. We also prove that the problem of computing a small quasi-kernel is polynomial time solvable for orientations of trees but is computationally hard in most other cases (and in particular for restricted acyclic digraphs).
An Efficient Reduction of a Gammoid to a Partition Matroid
Our main contribution is a polynomial-time algorithm to reduce a $k$-colorable gammoid to a $(2k-2)$-colorable partition matroid. It is known that there are gammoids that can not be reduced to any $(2k-3)$-colorable partition matroid, so this result is tight. We then discuss how such a reduction can be used to obtain polynomial-time algorithms with better approximation ratios for various natural problems related to coloring and list coloring the intersection of matroids.
Graphs with large palette index

Given an edge-coloring of a graph, the palette of a vertex is defined as the set of colors of the edges which are incident with it. We define the palette index of a graph as the minimum number of distinct palettes, taken over all edge-colorings, occurring among the vertices of the graph. Several results about the palette index of some specific classes of graphs are known. In this paper we propose a different approach that leads to new and more general results on the palette index. Our main theorem gives a sufficient condition for a graph to have palette index larger than its minimum degree. In the second part of the paper, by using such a result, we answer to two open problems on this topic. First, for every $r$ odd, we construct a family of $r$-regular graphs with palette index reaching the maximum admissible value. After that, we construct the first known family of simple graphs whose palette index grows quadratically with respect to their maximum degree.
Braced triangulations and rigidity

We consider the problem of finding an inductive construction, based on vertex splitting, of triangulated spheres with a fixed number of additional edges (braces). We show that for any positive integer $b$ there is such an inductive construction of triangulations with $b$ braces, having finitely many base graphs. In particular we establish a bound for the maximum size of a base graph with $b$ braces that is linear in $b$. In the case that $b=1$ or $2$ we determine the list of base graphs explicitly. Using these results we show that doubly braced triangulations are (generically) minimally rigid in two distinct geometric contexts arising from a hypercylinder in $\mathbb{R}^4$ and a class of mixed norms on $\mathbb{R}^3$.
