The concept of balancedly splittable orthogonal designs is introduced along with a recursive construction. As an application, equiangular tight frames over the real, complex, and quaternions meeting the Delsarte-Goethals-Seidel upper bound is obtained.

Balanced weighing matrices with parameters $$ \left(1+18\cdot\frac{9^{m+1}-1}{8},9^{m+1},4\cdot 9^m\right), $$ for each nonzero integer $m$ is constructed. This is the first infinite class not belonging to those with classical parameters. It is shown that any balanced weighing matrix is equivalent to a five-class association scheme.
Paths are generically realisable
We show that every $0$-$1$ multiplicity matrix for a simple graph $G$ is generically realisable for $G$. In particular, every multiplicity matrix for a path is generically realisable. We use this result to provide several families of joins of graphs that are realisable by a matrix with only two distinct eigenvalues.
Investigating the exceptionality of scattered polynomials

Scattered polynomials over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ have been introduced by Sheekey in 2016, and a central open problem regards the classification of those that are exceptional. So far, only two families of exceptional scattered polynomials are known. Very recently, Longobardi and Zanella weakened the property of being scattered by introducing the notion of L-$q^t$-partially scattered and R-$q^t$-partially scattered polynomials, for $t$ a divisor of $n$. Indeed, a polynomial is scattered if and only if it is both L-$q^t$-partially scattered and R-$q^t$-partially scattered. In this paper, by using techniques from algebraic geometry over finite fields and function fields theory, we show that the property which is is the hardest to be preserved is the L-$q^t$-partially scattered one. On the one hand, we are able to extend the classification results of exceptional scattered polynomials to exceptional L-$q^t$-partially scattered polynomials. On the other hand, the R-$q^t$-partially scattered property seems more stable. We present a large family of R-$q^t$-partially scattered polynomials, containing examples of exceptional R-$q^t$-partially scattered polynomials, which turn out to be connected with linear sets of so-called pseudoregulus type. In order to detect new examples of polynomials which are R-$q^t$-partially scattered, we introduce two different notions of equivalence preserving this property and concerning natural actions of the groups ${\rm ΓL}(2,q^n)$ and ${\rm ΓL}(2n/t,q^t)$. In particular, our family contains many examples of inequivalent polynomials, and geometric arguments are used to determine the equivalence classes under the action of ${\rm ΓL}(2n/t,q^t)$.
Implicit Linear Algebra and Basic Circuit Theory II: port behaviour of rigid multiports
In this paper, we define the notion of rigidity for linear electrical multiports and for matroid pairs. We show the parallel between the two and study the consequences of this parallel. We present applications to testing, using purely matroidal methods, whether a connection of rigid multiports yields a linear network with unique solution. We also indicate that rigidity can be regarded as the closest notion to duality that can be hoped for, when the spaces correspond to different physical constraints, such as topological and device characteristic.
A multiport is an ordered pair $(\V^1_{AB},\A^2_{B}),$ where $\V^1_{AB}$ is the solution space on $A\uplus B$ of the Kirchhoff current and voltage equations of the graph of the multiport and $\A^2_{B}\equivd α_B+\V^2_B$ is the device characteristic of the multiport, with $A$ corresponding to port voltages and currents and $B$ corresponding to internal voltages and currents.
The pair $\{\V^1_{AB},α_B+\V^2_{B}\}$ is said to be rigid iff it has a solution $(x_A,x_B)$ for every vector $α_B$ and given a restriction $x_A$ of the solution, $x_B$ is unique.
A matroid $\M_S$ on $S,$ is a family of `independent' sets with the property that maximal independent sets contained in any given subset of $S$ have the same cardinality.
The pair $\{\M^1_{AB},\M^2_{B}\}$ is said to be rigid iff the two matroids have disjoint bases which cover $B.$ We show that the properties of rigid pairs of matroids closely parallel those of rigid multiports.
We use the methods developed in the paper to show that a multiport with independent and controlled sources and positive or negative resistors, whose parameters can be taken to be algebraically independent over $\Q,$ is rigid, if certain simple topological conditions are satisfied by the device edges.
A decomposition of ballot permutations, pattern avoidance and Gessel walks

A permutation whose any prefix has no more descents than ascents is called a ballot permutation. In this paper, we present a decomposition of ballot permutations that enables us to construct a bijection between ballot permutations and odd order permutations, which proves a set-valued extension of a conjecture due to Spiro using the statistic of peak values. This bijection also preserves the neighbors of the largest letter in permutations and thus resolves a refinement of Spiro' s conjecture proposed by Wang and Zhang. Our decomposition can be extended to well-labelled positive paths, a class of generalized ballot permutations arising from polytope theory, that were enumerated by Bernardi, Duplantier and Nadeau. We will also investigate the enumerative aspect of ballot permutations avoiding a single pattern of length 3 and establish a connection between 213-avoiding ballot permutations and Gessel walks.
Global hypercontractivity and its applications
The hypercontractive inequality on the discrete cube plays a crucial role in many fundamental results in the Analysis of Boolean functions, such as the KKL theorem, Friedgut's junta theorem and the invariance principle. In these results the cube is equipped with the uniform measure, but it is desirable, particularly for applications to the theory of sharp thresholds, to also obtain such results for general $p$-biased measures. However, simple examples show that when $p = o(1)$, there is no hypercontractive inequality that is strong enough.
In this paper, we establish an effective hypercontractive inequality for general $p$ that applies to `global functions', i.e. functions that are not significantly affected by a restriction of a small set of coordinates. This class of functions appears naturally, e.g. in Bourgain's sharp threshold theorem, which states that such functions exhibit a sharp threshold. We demonstrate the power of our tool by strengthening Bourgain's theorem, thereby making progress on a conjecture of Kahn and Kalai and by establishing a $p$-biased analog of the invariance principle.
Our results have significant applications in Extremal Combinatorics. Here we obtain new results on the Turán number of any bounded degree uniform hypergraph obtained as the expansion of a hypergraph of bounded uniformity. These are asymptotically sharp over an essentially optimal regime for both the uniformity and the number of edges and solve a number of open problems in the area. In particular, we give general conditions under which the crosscut parameter asymptotically determines the Turán number, answering a question of Mubayi and Verstraëte. We also apply the Junta Method to refine our asymptotic results and obtain several exact results, including proofs of the Huang--Loh--Sudakov conjecture on cross matchings and the Füredi--Jiang--Seiver conjecture on path expansions.
The Sombor index of trees and unicyclic graphs with given matching number

In 2021, the Sombor index was introduced by Gutman, which is a new degree-based topological molecular descriptors. The Sombor index of a graph $G$ is defined as $SO(G) =\sum_{uv\in E(G)}\sqrt{d^2_G(u)+d^2_G(v)}$, where $d_G(v)$ is the degree of the vertex $v$ in $G$. Let $\mathscr{T}_{n,m}$ and $\mathscr{U}_{n,m}$ be the set of trees and unicyclic graphs on $n$ vertices with fixed matching number $m$, respectively. In this paper, the tree and the unicyclic graph with the maximum Sombor index are determined among $\mathscr{T}_{n,m}$ and $\mathscr{U}_{n,m}$, respectively.
Queue layouts and nonrepetitive colouring of planar graphs and powers of trees
Dujmović, Joret, Micek, Morin, Ueckerdt and Wood recently in [Planar graphs have bounded queue-number, Journal of the ACM, Volume 67, Issue 4, Article No.: 22, August 2020] showed some attractive graph product structure theorems for planar graphs. By using the product structure, they proved that planar graphs have bounded queue-number $48$; in [Planar graphs have bounded nonrepetitive chromatic number, Advances in Combinatorics, 5, 11 pp, 2020], the authors proved that planar graphs have bounded nonrepetitive chromatic number $768$.
In this paper, still by using some product structure theorem, we improve the upper bound of queue-number of planar graphs to $27$ and the non-repetitive chromatic number to $320$. We also study powers of trees. We show a graph product structure theorem of the $k$-th power $T^k$ of tree $T$, then use it giving an upper bound of the nonrepetitive~chromatic~number of $T^k$. We also give an asymptotically tight upper bound of the queue-number of $T^k$.

For a graph $G$, and two distinct vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$, let $n_G(u,v)$ be the number of vertices of $G$ that are closer in $G$ to $u$ than to $v$. Miklavič and Šparl (arXiv:2011.01635v1) define the distance-unbalancedness ${\rm uB}(G)$ of $G$ as the sum of $|n_G(u,v)-n_G(v,u)|$ over all unordered pairs of distinct vertices $u$ and $v$ of $G$. For positive integers $n$ up to $15$, they determine the trees $T$ of fixed order $n$ with the smallest and the largest values of ${\rm uB}(T)$, respectively. While the smallest value is achieved by the star $K_{1,n-1}$ for these $n$, which we then proved for general $n$ (Minimum distance-unbalancedness of trees, Journal of Mathematical Chemistry, DOI 10.1007/s10910-021-01228-4), the structure of the trees maximizing the distance-unbalancedness remained unclear. For $n$ up to $15$ at least, all these trees were subdivided stars. Contributing to problems posed by Miklavič and Šparl, we show $$\max\Big\{{\rm uB}(T):T\mbox{ is a tree of order }n\Big\} =\frac{n^3}{2}+o(n^3)$$ and $$\max\Big\{{\rm uB}(S(n_1,\ldots,n_k)):1+n_1+\cdots+n_k=n\Big\} =\left(\frac{1}{2}-\frac{5}{6k}+\frac{1}{3k^2}\right)n^3+O(kn^2),$$ where $S(n_1,\ldots,n_k)$ is the subdivided star such that removing its center vertex leaves paths of orders $n_1,\ldots,n_k$.

In this paper we give a recursive formula for the conjugacy growth series of a graph product in terms of the conjugacy growth and standard growth series of subgraph products. We also show that the conjugacy and standard growth rates in a graph product are equal provided that this property holds for each vertex group. All results are obtained for the standard generating set consisting of the union of generating sets of the vertex groups.
Iterating the RSK Bijection

We investigate the dynamics of the well-known RSK bijection on permutations when iterated on various reading words of the recording tableau. In the setting of the ordinary (row) reading word, we show that there is exactly one fixed point per partition shape, and that it is always reached within two steps from any starting permutation.
We also consider the modified dynamical systems formed by iterating RSK on the column reading word and the reversed reading word of the recording tableau. We show that the column reading word gives similar dynamics to the row reading word. On the other hand, for the reversed reading word, we always reach either a 2-cycle or fixed point after two steps. In fact, we reach a fixed point if and only if the shape of the initial tableau is self-conjugate.

For any positive integer $n$, we determine all pairs $(\operatorname{pd}(I(G)),\, \operatorname{reg}(I(G)))$ as $G$ ranges over all connected bipartite graphs on $n$ vertices.

For any northeast path $ν$, we define two bivariate polynomials associated with the $ν$-associahedron: the $F$- and the $H$-triangle. We prove combinatorially that we can obtain one from the other by an invertible transformation of variables. These polynomials generalize the classical $F$- and $H$-triangles of F.~Chapoton in type $A$. Our proof is completely new and has the advantage of providing a combinatorial explanation of the relation between the $F$- and $H$-triangle.

We identify a class of "semi-modular" forms invariant on special subgroups of $GL_2(\mathbb Z)$, which includes classical modular forms together with complementary classes of functions that are also nice in a specific sense. We define an Eisenstein-like series summed over integer partitions, and use it to construct families of semi-modular forms.

The Strict Avalanche Criterion (SAC) is a property of vectorial Boolean functions that is used in the construction of strong S-boxes. We show in this paper how to generalize the concept of SAC to address possible c-differential attacks, in the realm of finite fields. We define the concepts of c-Strict Avalanche Criterion (c-SAC) and c-Strict Avalanche Criterion of order m (c-SAC(m)), and generalize results of (Li and Cusick, 2005). We also show computationally how the new definition is not equivalent to the existing concepts of c-bent1-ness (Stanica et al., 2020), nor (for n = m) PcN-ness (Ellingsen et al., 2020)

We introduce a new generalisation of partitions, multi-grounded partitions, related to ground state paths indexed by dominant weights of Lie algebras. We use these to express characters of irreducible highest weight modules of Kac-Moody algebras of affine type as generating functions for multi-grounded partitions. This generalises the approach of our previous paper, where only irreducible highest weight modules with constant ground state paths were considered, to all ground state paths. As an application, we compute the characters of the level $1$ modules of the affine Lie algebras $A_{2n}^{(2)}(n\geq 2)$, $D_{n+1}^{(2)}(n\geq 2)$, $A_{2n-1}^{(1)}(n\geq 3)$, $B_{n}^{(1)}(n\geq 3)$, and $D_{n}^{(1)}(n\geq 4)$.

Random 2-cell embeddings of a given graph $G$ are obtained by choosing a random local rotation around every vertex. We analyze the expected number of faces, $\mathbb{E}[F_G]$, of such an embedding which is equivalent to studying its average genus. So far, tight results are known for two families called monopoles and dipoles. We extend the dipole result to a more general family called multistars, i.e., loopless multigraphs in which there is a vertex incident with all the edges. In particular, we show that the expected number of faces of every multistar with $n$ nonleaf edges lies in an interval of length $2/(n + 1)$ centered at the expected number of faces of an $n$-edge dipole. This allows us to derive bounds on $\mathbb{E}[F_G]$ for any given graph $G$ in terms of vertex degrees. We conjecture that $\mathbb{E}[F_G ] \le O(n)$ for any simple $n$-vertex graph $G$.
Forbidden intersections for codes

Determining the maximum size of a $t$-intersecting code in $[m]^n$ was a longstanding open problem of Frankl and Füredi, solved independently by Ahlswede and Khachatrian and by Frankl and Tokushige. We extend their result to the setting of forbidden intersections, by showing that for any $m>2$ and $n$ large compared with $t$ (but not necessarily $m$) that the same bound holds for codes with the weaker property of being $(t-1)$-avoiding, i.e.\ having no two vectors that agree on exactly $t-1$ coordinates. Our proof proceeds via a junta approximation result of independent interest, which we prove via a development of our recent theory of global hypercontractivity: we show that any $(t-1)$-avoiding code is approximately contained in a $t$-intersecting junta (a code where membership is determined by a constant number of co-ordinates). In particular, when $t=1$ this gives an alternative proof of a recent result of Eberhard, Kahn, Narayanan and Spirkl that symmetric intersecting codes in $[m]^n$ have size $o(m^n)$.
