Total Edge Irregularity Strength for Graphs
An edge irregular total $k$-labelling $f : V(G)\cup E(G)\rightarrow \{1,2,\dots,k\}$ of a graph $G$ is a labelling of the vertices and the edges of $G$ in such a way that any two different edges have distinct weights. The weight of an edge $e$, denoted by $wt(e)$, is defined as the sum of the label of $e$ and the labels of two vertices which incident with $e$, i.e. if $e=vw$, then $wt(e)=f(e)+f(v)+f(w)$. The minimum $k$ for which $G$ has an edge irregular total $k$-labelling is called the total edge irregularity strength of $G.$ In this paper, we determine total edge irregularity of connected and disconnected graphs.

Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- I. A Kuratowski-type characterisation
We characterise the embeddability of simply connected locally 3-connected 2-dimensional simplicial complexes in 3-space in a way analogous to Kuratowski's characterisation of graph planarity, by excluded minors. This answers questions of Lovász, Pardon and Wagner.

Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- II. Rotation systems
We prove that 2-dimensional simplicial complexes whose first homology group is trivial have topological embeddings in 3-space if and only if there are embeddings of their link graphs in the plane that are compatible at the edges and they are simply connected.

Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- III. Constraint minors
We characterise the following property by six obstructions: given a graphic matroid $M$ and a set $X$ of its elements, when is $M$ the cycle matroid of a graph $G$ such that $X$ is a connected edge set in $G$?

Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- IV. Dual matroids
We introduce dual matroids of 2-dimensional simplicial complexes. Under certain necessary conditions, duals matroids are used to characterise embeddability in 3-space in a way analogous to Whitney's planarity criterion. We further use dual matroids to extend a 3-dimensional analogue of Kuratowski's theorem to the class of 2-dimensional simplicial complexes obtained from simply connected ones by identifying vertices or edges.

Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- V. A refined Kuratowski-type characterisation
This paper is the last paper in a series of five papers. Building on earlier papers in this series, we prove an analogue of Kuratowski's characterisation of graph planarity for three dimensions. More precisely, a simply connected 2-dimensional simplicial complex embeds in 3-space if and only if it has no obstruction from an explicit list of obstructions. This list of obstructions is finite except for one infinite family.

Enumeration of labelled 4-regular planar graphs
Published in Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume119, Issue2 August 2019 Pages 358-378 • View Publication • BIB
We present the first combinatorial scheme for counting labelled 4-regular planar graphs through a complete recursive decomposition. More precisely, we show that the exponential generating function of labelled 4-regular planar graphs can be computed effectively as the solution of a system of equations, from which the coefficients can be extracted. As a byproduct, we also enumerate labelled 3-connected 4-regular planar graphs, and simple 4-regular rooted maps.

Szemerédi's theorem in the primes
Published • View Publication • BIB
Green and Tao famously proved in 2005 that any subset of the primes of fixed positive density contains arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. Green had previously shown that in fact any subset of the primes of relative density tending to zero sufficiently slowly contains a 3-term term progression. This was followed by work of Helfgott and de Roton, and Naslund, who improved the bounds on the relative density in the case of 3-term progressions. The aim of this note is to present an analogous result for longer progressions by combining a quantified version of the relative Szemerédi theorem given by Conlon, Fox and Zhao with Henriot's estimates of the enveloping sieve weights.
An improvement on the maximum number of $k$-Dominating Independent Sets
Published • View Publication • BIB
Erdős and Moser raised the question of determining the maximum number of maximal cliques or equivalently, the maximum number of maximal independent sets in a graph on $n$ vertices. Since then there has been a lot of research along these lines. A $k$-dominating independent set is an independent set $D$ such that every vertex not contained in $D$ has at least $k$ neighbours in $D$. Let $mi_k(n)$ denote the maximum number of $k$-dominating independent sets in a graph on $n$ vertices, and let $ζ_k:=\lim_{n \rightarrow \infty} \sqrt[n]{mi_k(n)}$. Nagy initiated the study of $mi_k(n)$. In this article we disprove a conjecture of Nagy and prove that for any even $k$ we have $$1.489 \approx \sqrt[9]{36} \le ζ^k_k.$$ We also prove that for any $k \ge 3$ we have $$ζ_k^{k} \le 2.053^{\frac{1}{1.053+1/k}}< 1.98,$$ improving the upper bound of Nagy.

Parallel Enumeration of Triangulations
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 25/3 (2018), Paper 3.6, 27; http://www.combinatorics.org/ojs/index.php/eljc/article/view/v25i3p6 • View Publication • BIB
We report on the implementation of an algorithm for computing the set of all regular triangulations of finitely many points in Euclidean space. This algorithm, which we call down-flip reverse search, can be restricted, e.g., to computing full triangulations only; this case is particularly relevant for tropical geometry. Most importantly, down-flip reverse search allows for massive parallelization, i.e., it scales well even for many cores. Our implementation allows to compute the triangulations of much larger point sets than before.
Edge-Transitive Graphs
Published in Involve 12 (2019) 1329-1341 • View Publication • BIB
A graph is said to be edge-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on its edges. It is known that edge-transitive graphs are either vertex-transitive or bipartite. In this paper we present a complete classification of all connected edge-transitive graphs on less than or equal to $20$ vertices. We then present a construction for an infinite family of edge-transitive bipartite graphs, and use this construction to show that there exists a non-trivial bipartite subgraph of $K_{m,n}$ that is connected and edge-transitive whenever $gcd(m,n)>2$. Additionally, we investigate necessary and sufficient conditions for edge transitivity of connected $(r,2)$ biregular subgraphs of $K_{m,n}$, as well as for uniqueness, and use these results to address the case of $gcd(m,n)=2$. We then present infinite families of edge-transitive graphs among vertex-transitive graphs, including several classes of circulant graphs. In particular, we present necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for edge-transitivity of certain circulant graphs.
Uniform Edge Betweenness Centrality
Published • View Publication • BIB
The edge betweenness centrality of an edge is loosely defined as the fraction of shortest paths between all pairs of vertices passing through that edge. In this paper, we investigate graphs where the edge betweenness centrality of edges is uniform. It is clear that if a graph G is edge-transitive (its automorphism group acts transitively on its edges) then G has uniform edge betweenness centrality. However this sufficient condition is not necessary. Graphs that are not edge-transitive but have uniform edge betweenness centrality appear to be very rare. Of the over 11.9 million connected graphs on up to ten vertices, there are only four graphs that are not edge-transitive but have uniform edge betweenness centrality. Despite this rarity among small graphs, we present methods for creating infinite classes of graphs with this unusual combination of properties.

Framework of two-dimensional functional walks
This paper gives a general introduction to two-dimensional functional walks with particular attention to notation and definition. We also give applications of functional walks and a visual overview of some walks generated by $f(n)=n^2$ and $f(n)=n^3$.

p-Divisibility of the number of linear representations of an Abelian p-group
Published • View Publication • BIB
We establish lower bounds for the $p$-divisibility of the quantity $\#\operatorname{Hom}(G,GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q))$, the number of homomorphisms from $G$ to a general linear group, where $G$ is an Abelian $p$-group. This is in analogy to the result of Krattenthaler and Müller \cite{MR3383810} on homomorphisms to symmetric groups.

Neighborhood Complexes of Some Exponential Graphs
Published in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 23(2) (2016), #P2.26 • View Publication • BIB
In this article, we consider the bipartite graphs $K_2 \times K_n$. We first show that the connectedness of $\mathcal{N}(K_{n+1}^{K_n}) =0$. Further, we show that $\text{Hom}(K_2 \times K_{n}, K_{m})$ is homotopic to $S^{m-2}$, if $2\leq m <n$.
Long cycles in Hamiltonian graphs
We prove that if an $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree at least $3$ contains a Hamiltonian cycle, then it contains another cycle of length $n-o(n)$; this implies, in particular, that a well-known conjecture of Sheehan from 1975 holds asymptotically. Our methods, which combine constructive, poset-based techniques and non-constructive, parity-based arguments, may be of independent interest.

Spanning trees with few branch vertices
Published • View Publication • BIB
A branch vertex in a tree is a vertex of degree at least three. We prove that, for all $s\geq 1$, every connected graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $(\frac{1}{s+3}+o(1))n$ contains a spanning tree having at most $s$ branch vertices. Asymptotically, this is best possible and solves, in less general form, a problem of Flandrin, Kaiser, Kuuzel, Li and Ryjáucek, which was originally motivated by an optimization problem in the design of optical networks.

Pseudo-edge unfoldings of convex polyhedra
Published • View Publication • BIB
A pseudo-edge graph of a convex polyhedron K is a 3-connected embedded graph in K whose vertices coincide with those of K, whose edges are distance minimizing geodesics, and whose faces are convex. We construct a convex polyhedron K in Euclidean 3-space with a pseudo-edge graph with respect to which K is not unfoldable. The proof is based on a result of Pogorelov on convex caps with prescribed curvature, and an unfoldability obstruction for almost flat convex caps due to Tarasov. Our example, which has 340 vertices, significantly simplifies an earlier construction by Tarasov, and confirms that Durer's conjecture does not hold for pseudo-edge unfoldings.

A general asymptotic formula for distinct partitions
Published • View Publication • BIB
Many asymptotic formulas exist for unrestricted integer partitions as well as for distinct partitions of integers into a finite number of parts. Szekeres and Canfield have derived an asymptotic formula for the number of partitions that is valid for any value of the number of parts. We obtain general asymptotic formulas for distinct partitions that are valid in a wider range of parameters than the existing asymptotic formulas, and we recover the known asymptotic results as special cases of our general formulas.
