We give a completely constructive solution to Tarski's circle squaring problem. More generally, we prove a Borel version of an equidecomposition theorem due to Laczkovich. If $k \geq 1$ and $A, B \subseteq \mathbb{R}^k$ are bounded Borel sets with the same positive Lebesgue measure whose boundaries have upper Minkowski dimension less than $k$, then $A$ and $B$ are equidecomposable by translations using Borel pieces. This answers a question of Wagon. Our proof uses ideas from the study of flows in graphs, and a recent result of Gao, Jackson, Krohne, and Seward on special types of witnesses to the hyperfiniteness of free Borel actions of $\mathbb{Z}^d$.
Enumeration of chord diagrams via topological recursion and quantum curve techniques

In this paper we consider the enumeration of orientable and non-orientable chord diagrams. We show that this enumeration is encoded in appropriate expectation values of the $β$-deformed Gaussian and RNA matrix models. We evaluate these expectation values by means of the $β$-deformed topological recursion, and - independently - using properties of quantum curves. We show that both these methods provide efficient and systematic algorithms for counting of chord diagrams with a given genus, number of backbones and number of chords.
Partial chord diagrams and matrix models

In this article, the enumeration of partial chord diagrams is discussed via matrix model techniques. In addition to the basic data such as the number of backbones and chords, we also consider the Euler characteristic, the backbone spectrum, the boundary point spectrum, and the boundary length spectrum. Furthermore, we consider the boundary length and point spectrum that unifies the last two types of spectra. We introduce matrix models that encode generating functions of partial chord diagrams filtered by each of these spectra. Using these matrix models, we derive partial differential equations - obtained independently by cut-and-join arguments in an earlier work - for the corresponding generating functions.

In this paper, we present a uniform formula for the integration of polynomials over the unitary, orthogonal, and symplectic groups using Weingarten calculus. From this description, we further simplify the integration formulas and give several optimizations for various cases. We implemented the optimized Weingarten calculus in Maple in a package called IntHaar for all three compact groups. Here we will discuss its functions, provide instructions for the package, and produce some examples of computed integrals.

This is a review/announcement of results concerning the connection between certain exactly solvable two-dimensional models of statistical mechanics, namely loop models, and the equivariant $K$-theory of the cotangent bundle of the Grassmannian. We interpret various concepts from integrable systems ($R$-matrix, partition function on a finite domain) in geometric terms. As a byproduct, we provide explicit formulae for $K$-classes of various coherent sheaves, including structure and (conjecturally) square roots of canonical sheaves and canonical sheaves of conormal varieties of Schubert varieties.

We consider the problem of existence and enumeration of primitive TSRs of order n over any finite field. Here we prove the existence of primitive TSRs of order two over finite fields of characteristic two and establish an equivalence between primitive TSRs and primitive polynomials of special form. A conjecture regarding the existence of these special type of primitive polynomials is submitted by us along with some experimental verification. Further we have attempted to enumerate primitive TSRs of order two over finite fields of characteristic two. Finally we give a general search algorithm for primitive TSRs of odd order over any finite field and in particular of order two over fields of characteristic two.

As a strengthening of Hadwiger's conjecture, Gerards and Seymour conjectured that every graph with no odd $K_t$ minor is $(t-1)$-colorable. We prove two weaker variants of this conjecture. Firstly, we show that for each $t \geq 2$, every graph with no odd $K_t$ minor has a partition of its vertex set into $6t-9$ sets $V_1, \dots, V_{6t-9}$ such that each $V_i$ induces a subgraph of bounded maximum degree. Secondly, we prove that for each $t \geq 2$, every graph with no odd $K_t$ minor has a partition of its vertex set into $10t-13$ sets $V_1, \dots, V_{10t-13}$ such that each $V_i$ induces a subgraph with components of bounded size. The second theorem improves a result of Kawarabayashi (2008), which states that the vertex set can be partitioned into $496t$ such sets.
Mutation of friezes

We study mutations of Conway-Coxeter friezes which are compatible with mutations of cluster-tilting objects in the associated cluster category of Dynkin type $A$. More precisely, we provide a formula, relying solely on the shape of the frieze, describing how each individual entry in the frieze changes under cluster mutation. We observe how the frieze can be divided into four distinct regions, relative to the entry at which we want to mutate, where any two entries in the same region obey the same mutation rule. Moreover, we provide a combinatorial formula for the number of submodules of a string module, and with that a simple way to compute the frieze associated to a fixed cluster-tilting object in a cluster category of Dynkin type $A$ in the sense of Caldero and Chapoton.

A graph is said to be {\it total-colored} if all the edges and the vertices of the graph are colored. A total-coloring of a graph is a {\it total monochromatically-connecting coloring} ({\it TMC-coloring}, for short) if any two vertices of the graph are connected by a path whose edges and internal vertices have the same color. For a connected graph $G$, the {\it total monochromatic connection number}, denoted by $tmc(G)$, is defined as the maximum number of colors used in a TMC-coloring of $G$. In this paper, we study two kinds of Erdős-Gallai-type problems for $tmc(G)$ and completely solve them.

Following the proof of the purity conjecture for weakly separated collections, recent years have revealed a variety of wider examples of purity in different settings. In this paper we consider the collection $\mathcal A_{I,J}$ of sets that are weakly separated from two fixed sets $I$ and $J$. We show that all maximal by inclusion weakly separated collections $\mathcal W\subset\mathcal A_{I,J}$ are also maximal by size, provided that $I$ and $J$ are sufficiently "generic". We also give a simple formula for the cardinality of $\mathcal W$ in terms of $I$ and $J$. We apply our result to calculate the cluster distance and to give lower bounds on the mutation distance between cluster variables in the cluster algebra structure on the coordinate ring of the Grassmannian. Using a linear projection that relates weak separation to the octahedron recurrence, we also find the exact mutation distances and cluster distances for a family of cluster variables.

We study the problem of classifying deep holes of Reed-Solomon codes. We show that this problem is equivalent to the problem of classifying MDS extensions of Reed-Solomon codes by one digit. This equivalence allows us to improve recent results on the former problem. In particular, we classify deep holes of Reed-Solomon codes of dimension greater than half the alphabet size.
We also give a complete classification of deep holes of Reed Solomon codes with redundancy three in all dimensions.

The study of the $h$-vectors of graded Gorenstein algebras is an important topic in combinatorial commutative algebra, which despite the large amount of literature produced during the last several years, still presents many interesting open questions. In this note, we commence a study of those unimodal Gorenstein $h$-vectors that do \emph{not} satisfy the Stanley-Iarrobino property. Our main results, which are characteristic free, show that such $h$-vectors exist: 1) In socle degree $e$ if and only if $e\ge 6$; and 2) In every codimension five or greater. The main case that remains open is that of codimension four, where no Gorenstein $h$-vector is known without the Stanley-Iarrobino property. We conclude by proposing the following very general conjecture: The existence of any arbitrary level $h$-vector is \emph{independent} of the characteristic of the base field.
Approximation of the Partition Number After Hardy and Ramanujan: An Application of Data Fitting Method in Combinatorics
Sometimes we need the approximate value of the partition number in a simple and efficient way. There are already several formulae to calculate the partition number p(n). But they are either inconvenient for most people (not majored in math) who do not want do write programs, or unsatisfying in accuracy. By bringing in two parameters in the Hardy-Ramanujan's Asymptotic formula and fitting the data of the two parameters by least square method, iteration method and some other special designed methods, several revised elementary estimation formulae with high accuracy for p(n) are obtained. With these estimation formulae, the approximate value of p(n) can be calculated by a pocket calculator without programming function. The main difficulty is that the usual methods to fit the data of the two parameters by an elementary function is defective here. These method could be used in finding the fitting functions of some other complex data.
A general purpose algorithm for counting simple cycles and simple paths of any length

We describe a general purpose algorithm for counting simple cycles and simple paths of any length $\ell$ on a (weighted di)graph on $N$ vertices and $M$ edges, achieving a time complexity of $O\left(N+M+\big(\ell^ω+\ellΔ\big) |S_\ell|\right)$. In this expression, $|S_\ell|$ is the number of (weakly) connected induced subgraphs of $G$ on at most $\ell$ vertices, $Δ$ is the maximum degree of any vertex and $ω$ is the exponent of matrix multiplication. We compare the algorithm complexity both theoretically and experimentally with most of the existing algorithms for the same task. These comparisons show that the algorithm described here is the best general purpose algorithm for the class of graphs where $(\ell^{ω-1}Δ^{-1}+1) |S_\ell|\leq |\text{Cycle}_\ell|$, with $|\text{Cycle}_\ell|$ the total number of simple cycles of length at most $\ell$, including backtracks and self-loops. On Erdős-Rényi random graphs, we find empirically that this happens when the edge probability is larger than circa $4/N$. In addition, we show that some real-world networks also belong to this class. Finally, the algorithm permits the enumeration of simple cycles and simple paths on networks where vertices are labeled from an alphabet on $n$ letters with a time complexity of $O\left(N+M+\big(n^\ell\ell^ω+\ellΔ\big) |S_\ell|\right)$. A Matlab implementation of the algorithm proposed here is available for download.

We tackle the problem of a combinatorial classification of finite metric spaces via their fundamental polytopes, as suggested by Vershik in 2010. In this paper we consider a hyperplane arrangement associated to every split pseudometric and, for tree-like metrics, we study the combinatorics of its underlying matroid. We give explicit formulas for the face numbers of fundamental polytopes and Lipschitz polytopes of all tree-like metrics, and we characterize the metric trees for which the fundamental polytope is simplicial.

We give a complete characterization of pretty good state transfer on paths between any pair of vertices with respect to the quantum walk model determined by the XY-Hamiltonian. If $n$ is the length of the path, and the vertices are indexed by the positive integers from 1 to $n$, with adjacent vertices having consecutive indices, then the necessary and sufficient conditions for pretty good state transfer between vertices $a$ and $b$ are that (a) $a + b = n + 1$, (b) $n + 1$ has at most one odd non-trivial divisor, and (c) if $n = 2^t r - 1$, for $r$ odd and $r \neq 1$, then $a$ is a multiple of $2^{t - 1}$.

We prove that every graph with circumference at most $k$ is $O(\log k)$-colourable such that every monochromatic component has size at most $O(k)$. The $O(\log k)$ bound on the number of colours is best possible, even in the setting of colourings with bounded monochromatic degree.
Generating functions for descents over words which avoid a consecutive pattern
