K-Circular Matroids of Graphs
In 30's Hassler Whitney considered and completely solved the problem $(WP)$ of describing the classes of graphs $G$ having the same cycle matroid $M(G)$. A natural analog $(WP)'$ of Whitney's problem $(WP)$ is to describe the classes of graphs $G$ having the same matroid $M'(G)$, where $M'(G)$ is a matroid (on the edge set of $G$) distinct from $M(G)$. For example, the corresponding problem $(WP)'= (WP)_{θ}$ for the so-called bicircular matroid $M_{θ}(G)$ of graph $G$ was solved by Coulard, Del Greco and Wagner. We define the so-called {\em $k$-circular matroid} $M_k(G)$ on the edge set of graph $G$ for any non-negative integer $k$ so that $M(G) = M_0(G)$ and $M_{θ}(G) = M_1(G)$. It is natural to consider the corresponding analog $(WP)_k$ of Whitney's problem $(WP)$ not only for $k=0$ and $k=1$ but also for any integer $k \ge 2$. In this paper we give a characterization of the $k$-circular matroid $M_k(G)$ by describing the main constituents (circuits, bases, and cocircuits) in terms of graph $G$ and establish some important properties of the $k$-circular matroid. The results of this paper will be used in our further research on the problem $(WP)_k$. In our next paper we use these results to study a particular problem of $(WP)_k$ on graphs uniquely defined by their $k$-circular matroids.
A Note On Immersion Intertwines Of Infinite Graphs

We present a construction of two infinite graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$, and of an infinite set $\mathscr{F}$ of graphs such that $\mathscr{F}$ is an antichain with respect to the immersion relation and, for each graph $G$ in $\mathscr{F}$, both $G_1$ and $G_2$ are subgraphs of $G$, but no graph properly immersed in $G$ admits an immersion of $G_1$ and of $G_2$. This shows that the class of infinite graphs ordered by the immersion relation does not have the finite intertwine property.
Critical Groups of Graphs with Dihedral Actions II

In this paper we consider the critical group of finite connected graphs which admit harmonic actions by the dihedral group $D_n$, extending earlier work by the author and Criel Merino. In particular, we show that the critical group of such a graph can be decomposed in terms of the critical groups of the quotients of the graph by certain subgroups of the automorphism group. This is analogous to a theorem of Kani and Rosen which decomposes the Jacobians of algebraic curves with a $D_n$-action.
The Cohomology of Quaternionic Hyperplane Complements
Over the complex numbers, the complement of a collection of hyperplanes is a widely-studied object; the cohomology ring, in particular, is known to have a structure depending only on the combinatorial properties of the intersection of hyperplanes. The fundamental group, on the other hand, requires specific knowledge about the particular embedding in complex space, though the tower of nilpotent quotients can still be determined (see arXiv:math/9805056).
Over the quaternions, however, since hyperplane complements are simply connected, the topological properties of hyperplane complements are simultaneously more and less complicated. In this article, we show not only that the cohomology ring of the complement is the same algebra as in the complex case, up to a multiplication of indices by $3$, but that the rational homotopy type can be determined entirely by the cohomology ring.

Let $X$ be a finite set, $\mathcal N$ be a reticulation-visible network on $X$, and $\mathcal T$ be a rooted binary phylogenetic tree. We show that there is a polynomial-time algorithm for deciding whether or not $\mathcal N$ displays $\mathcal T$. Furthermore, for all $|X|\ge 1$, we show that $\mathcal N$ has at most $8|X|-7$ vertices in total and at most $3|X|-3$ reticulation vertices, and that these upper bounds are sharp.

Complementary Families of the Fibonacci-Lucas Relations
In this paper we present two families of Fibonacci-Lucas identities, with the Sury's identity being the best known representative of one of the families. While these results can be proved by means of the basic identity relating Fibonacci and Lucas sequences we also provide a bijective proof. Both families are then treated by generating functions.

In this paper we extend the notion of Melham sum to the Pell and Pell-Lucas sequences. While the proofs of general statements rely on the binomial theorem, we prove some spacial cases by the known Pell identities. We also give extensions of obtained expressions to the other recursive sequences.
On the Erdős-Hajnal conjecture for six-vertex tournaments

A celebrated unresolved conjecture of Erdős and Hajnal states that for every undirected graph $H$ there exists $ε(H)>0$ such that every undirected graph on $n$ vertices that does not contain $H$ as an induced subgraph contains a clique or stable set of size at least $n^{ε(H)}$. The conjecture has a directed equivalent version stating that for every tournament $H$ there exists $ε(H)>0$ such that every $H$-free $n$-vertex tournament $T$ contains a transitive subtournament of order at least $n^{ε(H)}$. We say that a tournament is \textit{prime} if it does not have nontrivial homogeneous sets. So far the conjecture was proved only for some specific families of prime tournaments (\cite{chorochudber, choromanski2}) and tournaments constructed according to the so-called \textit{substitution procedure}(\cite{alon}). In particular, recently the conjecture was proved for all five-vertex tournaments (\cite{chorochudber}), but the question about the correctness of the conjecture for all six-vertex tournaments remained open. In this paper we prove that all but at most one six-vertex tournament satisfy the Erdős-Hajnal conjecture. That reduces the six-vertex case to a single tournament.
Distant set distinguishing edge colourings of graphs

We consider the following extension of the concept of adjacent strong edge colourings of graphs without isolated edges. Two distinct vertices which are at distant at most $r$ in a graph are called $r$-adjacent. The least number of colours in a proper edge colouring of a graph $G$ such that the sets of colours met by any $r$-adjacent vertices in $G$ are distinct is called the $r$-adjacent strong chromatic index of $G$ and denoted by $χ'_{a,r}(G)$. It has been conjectured that $χ'_{a,1}(G)\leqΔ+2$ if $G$ is connected of maximum degree $Δ$ and non-isomorphic to $C_5$, while Hatami proved that there is a constant $C$, $C\leq 300$, such that $χ'_{a,1}(G)\leqΔ+C$ if $Δ>10^{20}$ [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 95 (2005) 246--256]. We conjecture that a similar statement should hold for any $r$, i.e., that for each positive integer $r$ there exist constants $δ_0$ and $C$ such that $χ'_{a,r}(G) \leq Δ+C$ for every graph without an isolated edge and with minimum degree $δ\geq δ_0$, and argue that a lower bound on $δ$ is unavoidable in such a case (for $r>2$). Using the probabilistic method we prove such upper bound to hold for graphs with $δ\geq εΔ$, for every $r$ and any fixed $\varepsilon\in(0,1]$, i.e., in particular for regular graphs. We also support the conjecture by proving an upper bound $χ'_{a,r}(G) \leq (1+o(1))Δ$ for graphs with $δ\geq r+2$.
A branching rule for partition complexes
Let $S_n$ be the symmetric group, and let $Y$ be a Young subgroup of $S_n$. Let $Π_n$ be the complex of partitions of $\{1, \ldots, n\}$. Our main result is a $Y$-equivariant decomposition of $Π_n$. As an application, we obtain new information about the quotient space of $|Π_n|$ by a Young subgroup.
On distinct cross-ratios in positive characteristic
We prove that a finite subset $A$ of the projective line $FP^1$ over a field $F$ of positive characteristic $p$ determines $Ω(|A|^2)$ distinct cross-ratios, as long as $|A|<\sqrt{p}.$
Nilpotent dessins: Decomposition theorem and classification of the abelian dessins
A map is a 2-cell decomposition of an orientable closed surface. A dessin is a bipartite map with a fixed colouring of vertices. A dessin is regular if its group of colour- and orientation-preserving automorphisms acts transitively on the edges, and a regular dessin is symmetric if it admits an additional external symmetry transposing the vertex colours. Regular dessins with nilpotent automorphism groups are investigated. We show that each such dessin is a parallel product of regular dessins whose automorphism groups are the Sylow subgroups. Regular and symmetric dessins with abelian automorphism groups are classified and enumerated.

We prove that every graph with $n$ vertices and at least $5n-8$ edges contains the Petersen graph as a minor, and this bound is best possible. Moreover we characterise all Petersen-minor-free graphs with at least $5n-11$ edges. It follows that every graph containing no Petersen minor is 9-colourable and has vertex arboricity at most 5. These results are also best possible.

We investigate the arithmetic-geometric structure of the lecture hall cone \[ L_n \ := \ \left\{λ\in \mathbb{R}^n: \, 0\leq \frac{λ_1}{1}\leq \frac{λ_2}{2}\leq \frac{λ_3}{3}\leq \cdots \leq \frac{λ_n}{n}\right\} . \] We show that $L_n$ is isomorphic to the cone over the lattice pyramid of a reflexive simplex whose Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomial is given by the $(n-1)$st Eulerian polynomial, and prove that lecture hall cones admit regular, flag, unimodular triangulations. After explicitly describing the Hilbert basis for $L_n$, we conclude with observations and a conjecture regarding the structure of unimodular triangulations of $L_n$, including connections between enumerative and algebraic properties of $L_n$ and cones over unit cubes.
Nowhere-zero 9-flows in 3-edge-connected signed graphs
A signed graph is a graph with a positive or negative sign on each edge. Regarding each edge as two half edges, an orientation of a signed graph is an assignment of a direction to each of its half edges such that the two half edges of a positive edge receive the same direction and that of a negative edge receive opposite directions. A signed graph with such an orientation is called a bidirected graph. A nowhere-zero $k$-flow of a bidirected graph is an assignment of an integer from $\{-(k-1), \ldots, -1, 1, \ldots, (k-1)\}$ to each of its half edges such that Kirchhoff's law is respected, that is, the total incoming flow is equal to the total outgoing flow at each vertex. A signed graph is said to admit a nowhere-zero $k$-flow if it has an orientation such that the corresponding bidirected graph admits a nowhere-zero $k$-flow. It was conjectured by Bouchet that every signed graph admitting a nowhere-zero $k$-flow for some integer $k \ge 2$ admits a nowhere-zero 6-flow. In this paper we prove that every $3$-edge-connected signed graph admitting a nowhere-zero $k$-flow for some $k$ admits a nowhere-zero $9$-flow.
Automorphism Groups of Generic Structures: Extreme Amenability and Amenability

We investigate correspondences between extreme amenability and amenability of automorphism groups of Fraïssé-Hrushovski generic structures that are obtained from smooth classes, and their Ramsey type properties of their smooth classes, similar to Kechris, Pestov and Todorcevic, and Tatch Moore. In particular, we focus on some Fraïssé-Hrushovski generic structures that are obtained from pre-dimension functions. Using these correspondences, we prove that automorphism groups of ordered Hrushovski generic graphs are not extremely amenable in both cases of collapsed and uncollapsed. Moreover, we prove that automorphism groups of Fraïssé-Hrushovski generic structures that are obtained from pre-dimension functions with rational coefficients are not amenable.
Quantum Max-flow/Min-cut

The classical max-flow min-cut theorem describes transport through certain idealized classical networks. We consider the quantum analog for tensor networks. By associating an integral capacity to each edge and a tensor to each vertex in a flow network, we can also interpret it as a tensor network, and more specifically, as a linear map from the input space to the output space. The quantum max flow is defined to be the maximal rank of this linear map over all choices of tensors. The quantum min cut is defined to be the minimum product of the capacities of edges over all cuts of the tensor network. We show that unlike the classical case, the quantum max-flow=min-cut conjecture is not true in general. Under certain conditions, e.g., when the capacity on each edge is some power of a fixed integer, the quantum max-flow is proved to equal the quantum min-cut. However, concrete examples are also provided where the equality does not hold.
We also found connections of quantum max-flow/min-cut with entropy of entanglement and the quantum satisfiability problem. We speculate that the phenomena revealed may be of interest both in spin systems in condensed matter and in quantum gravity.
The multiplicative coalescent, inhomogeneous continuum random trees, and new universality classes for critical random graphs

One major open conjecture in the area of critical random graphs, formulated by statistical physicists, and supported by a large amount of numerical evidence over the last decade [23, 24, 28, 63] is as follows: for a wide array of random graph models with degree exponent $τ\in (3,4)$, distances between typical points both within maximal components in the critical regime as well as on the minimal spanning tree on the giant component in the supercritical regime scale like $n^{(τ-3)/(τ-1)}$.
In this paper we study the metric space structure of maximal components of the multiplicative coalescent, in the regime where the sizes converge to excursions of Lévy processes "without replacement" [10], yielding a completely new class of limiting random metric spaces. A by-product of the analysis yields the continuum scaling limit of one fundamental class of random graph models with degree exponent $τ\in (3,4)$ where edges are rescaled by $n^{-(τ-3)/(τ-1)}$ yielding the first rigorous proof of the above conjecture. The limits in this case are compact "tree-like" random fractals with finite fractal dimensions and with a dense collection of hubs (infinite degree vertices) a finite number of which are identified with leaves to form shortcuts. In a special case, we show that the Minkowski dimension of the limiting spaces equal $(τ-2)/(τ-3)$ a.s., in stark contrast to the Erdős-Rényi scaling limit whose Minkowski dimension is 2 a.s. It is generally believed that dynamic versions of a number of fundamental random graph models, as one moves from the barely subcritical to the critical regime can be approximated by the multiplicative coalescent. In work in progress, the general theory developed in this paper is used to prove analogous limit results for other random graph models with degree exponent $τ\in (3,4)$.
Toric $g$-polynomials of hook shape lattice Path Matroid Polytopes and product of simplices
It is known that a lattice path matroid polytope can be associated with two given noncrossing lattice paths on $\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{Z}$ with the same end points. In this short note we give explicit formulae for the $f$-vector, toric $f$- and $g$-polynomials of a lattice path matroid polytope when two boundary paths enclose a hook shape.
