A note on the Brush Number of Jaco Graphs, $J_n(1), n \in \Bbb N
The concept of the brush number $b_r(G)$ was introduced for a simple connected undirected graph $G$. This note extends the concept to a special family of directed graphs and declares that the brush number $b_r(J_n(1))$ of a finite Jaco graph, $J_n(1), n \in \Bbb N$ with prime Jaconian vertex $v_i$ is given by:\\ \\ $b_r(J_n(1)) = \sum\limits_{j=1}^{I}(d^+(v_j) - d^-(v_j)) + \sum\limits_{j=I+1}^{n}max\{0, (n-j) - d^-(v_j)\}.

The multi-variable Schmidt polynomials are defined by $$ S_n^{(r)}(x_0,\ldots,x_n):=\sum_{k=0}^n {n+k \choose 2k}^{r}{2k\choose k} x_k. $$ We prove that, for any positive integers $m$, $n$, $r$, and $\varepsilon=\pm 1$, all the coefficients in the polynomial $$ \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\varepsilon^k(2k+1) S_k^{(r)}(x_0,\ldots,x_k)^m $$ are multiples of $n$. This generalizes a recent result of Pan on the divisibility of sums of Apéry polynomials.
On the Randic and degree distance indices of the Mycielskian of a graph
In a search for triangle-free graphs with arbitrarily large chromatic numbers, Mycielski developed a graph transformation that transforms a graph into a new graph which is called the Mycielskian of that graph. In this paper we provide some sharp bounds for the Randic index of the Mycielskian graphs. Also, we determine the degree distance index of the Mycielskian of each graph with diameter two.

A construction of 2-quasi-perfect Lee codes is given over the space $\mathbb Z_p^n$ for $p$ prime, $p\equiv \pm 5\pmod{12}$ and $n=2[\frac{p}{4}]$. It is known that there are infinitely many such primes. Golomb and Welch conjectured that perfect codes for the Lee-metric do not exist for dimension $n\geq 3$ and radius $r\geq 2$. This conjecture was proved to be true for large radii as well as for low dimensions. The codes found are very close to be perfect, which exhibits the hardness of the conjecture. A series of computations show that related graphs are Ramanujan, which could provide further connections between Coding and Graph Theories.
Bounding the Number of Hyperedges in Friendship $r$-Hypergraphs

For $r \ge 2$, an $r$-uniform hypergraph is called a friendship $r$-hypergraph if every set $R$ of $r$ vertices has a unique 'friend' - that is, there exists a unique vertex $x \notin R$ with the property that for each subset $A \subseteq R$ of size $r-1$, the set $A \cup \{x\}$ is a hyperedge.
We show that for $r \geq 3$, the number of hyperedges in a friendship $r$-hypergraph is at least $\frac{r+1}{r} \binom{n-1}{r-1}$, and we characterise those hypergraphs which achieve this bound. This generalises a result given by Li and van Rees in the case when $r = 3$.
We also obtain a new upper bound on the number of hyperedges in a friendship $r$-hypergraph, which improves on a known bound given by Li, van Rees, Seo and Singhi when $r=3$.

In this paper a wide family of identifying codes over regular Cayley graphs of degree four which are built over finite Abelian groups is presented. Some of the codes in this construction are also perfect. The graphs considered include some well-known graphs such as tori, twisted tori and Kronecker products of two cycles. Therefore, the codes can be used for identification in these graphs. Finally, an example of how these codes can be applied for adaptive identification over these graphs is presented.

For a directed graph $G$, a $t$-identifying code is a subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ with the property that for each vertex $v\in V(G)$ the set of vertices of $S$ reachable from $v$ by a directed path of length at most $t$ is both non-empty and unique. A graph is called {\it $t$-identifiable} if there exists a $t$-identifying code. This paper shows that the de~Bruijn graph $\vec{\mathcal{B}}(d,n)$ is $t$-identifiable if and only if $n \geq 2t-1$. It is also shown that a $t$-identifying code for $t$-identifiable de~Bruijn graphs must contain at least $d^{n-1}(d-1)$ vertices, and constructions are given to show that this lower bound is achievable $n \geq 2t$. Further a (possibly) non-optimal construction is given when $n=2t-1$. Additionally, with respect to $\vec{\mathcal{B}}(d,n)$ we provide upper and lower bounds on the size of a minimum \textit{$t$-dominating set} (a subset with the property that every vertex is at distance at most $t$ from the subset), that the minimum size of a \textit{directed resolving set} (a subset with the property that every vertex of the graph can be distinguished by its directed distances to vertices of $S$) is $d^{n-1}(d-1)$, and that if $d>n$ the minimum size of a {\it determining set} (a subset $S$ with the property that the only automorphism that fixes $S$ pointwise is the trivial automorphism) is $\left\lceil \frac{d-1}{n}\right\rceil$.

This paper studies the rainbow connection number of the power graph $Γ_G$ of a finite group $G$. We determine the rainbow connection number of $Γ_G$ if $G$ has maximal involutions or is nilpotent, and show that the rainbow connection number of $Γ_G$ is at most three if $G$ has no maximal involutions. The rainbow connection numbers of power graphs of some nonnilpotent groups are also given.

We present a simple method to obtain information regarding the connectivity of the 1-skeleta of a wide family of simplicial complexes through bounds for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of their Stanley-Reisner rings. In this way we generalize and unify two results on connectivity: one by Balinsky and Barnette, one by Athanasiadis. In particular, if $Δ$ is a simplicial $d$-pseudomanifold, and $s$ is the highest integer such that there is an $s$-dimensional simplex not contained in $Δ$, but such that its boundary is, then the 1-skeleton of $Δ$ is $\left\lceil \frac{(s+1)d}{s} \right\rceil$-connected. We also show that this bound on the connectivity is tight.

A systematic study of holomorphic gauge invariant operators in general $\mathcal{N}=1$ quiver gauge theories, with unitary gauge groups and bifundamental matter fields, was recently presented in [1]. For large ranks a simple counting formula in terms of an infinite product was given. We extend this study to quiver gauge theories with fundamental matter fields, deriving an infinite product form for the refined counting in these cases. The infinite products are found to be obtained from substitutions in a simple building block expressed in terms of the weighted adjacency matrix of the quiver. In the case without fundamentals, it is a determinant which itself is found to have a counting interpretation in terms of words formed from partially commuting letters associated with simple closed loops in the quiver. This is a new relation between counting problems in gauge theory and the Cartier-Foata monoid. For finite ranks of the unitary gauge groups, the refined counting is given in terms of expressions involving Littlewood-Richardson coefficients.
M-vector analogue for the cd-index

A well-known conjecture of McMullen, proved by Billera, Lee and Stanley, describes the face numbers of simple polytopes. The necessary and sufficient condition is that the toric g-vector of the polytope is an M-vector, that is, the vector of dimensions of graded pieces of a standard graded algebra A. Recent work by Murai, Nevo and Yanagawa suggests a similar condition for the coefficients of the cd-index of a poset P. The coefficients of the cd-index are conjectured to be the dimensions of graded pieces in a standard multigraded algebra A. We prove the conjecture for simplicial spheres and we give numerical evidence for general shellable spheres. In the simplicial case we construct the multi-graded algebra A explicitly using lattice paths.

We consider weighted generating functions of trees where the weights are products of functions of the sizes of the subtrees. This work begins with the observation that three different communities, largely independently, found substantially the same result concerning these series. We unify these results with a common generalization. Next we use the insights of one community on the problems of another in two different ways. Namely, we use the differential equation perspective to find a number of new interesting hook length formulae for trees, and we use the body of examples developed by the combinatorial community to give quantum field theory toy examples with nice properties.
The asymptotic number of $12..d$-Avoiding Words with $r$ occurrences of each letter $1,2, ..., n$
Following Ekhad and Zeilberger (The Personal Journal of Shalosh B. Ekhad and Doron Zeilberger, Dec 5 2014; see also arXiv:1412.2035), we study the asymptotics for large $n$ of the number $A_{d,r}(n)$ of words of length $rn$ having $r$ letters $i$ for $i=1..n$, and having no increasing subsequence of length $d$. We prove an asymptotic formula conjectured by these authors, and we give explicitly the multiplicative constant appearing in the result, answering a question they asked. These two results should make the OEIS richer by 100+25=125 dollars.
In the case $r=1$ we recover Regev's result for permutations. Our proof goes as follows: expressing $A_{d,r}(n)$ as a sum over tableaux via the RSK correspondence, we show that the only tableaux contributing to the sum are "almost" rectangular (in the scale $\sqrt{n}$). This relies on asymptotic estimates for the Kotska numbers $K_{λ,r^n}$ when $λ$ has a fixed number of parts. Contrarily to the case $r=1$ where these numbers are given by the hook-length formula, we don't have closed form expressions here, so to get our asymptotic estimates we rely on more delicate computations, via the Jacobi-Trudi identity and saddle-point estimates.

A 1989 result of Duarte asserts that for a given tree T on n vertices, a fixed vertex i, and two sets of distinct real numbers L, M of sizes n and n-1, respectively, such that M strictly interlaces L, there is a real symmetric matrix A such that graph of A is T, eigenvalues of A are given by L, and eigenvalues of A(i) are given by M. In 2013, a similar result for connected graphs was published by Hassani Monfared and Shader, using the Jacobian method. Analogues of these results are presented here for real skew-symmetric matrices whose graphs belong to a certain family of trees, and all of their supergraphs.
Integrality of the simple Hurwitz numbers
We show the integrality of the simple Hurwitz numbers. The main tool is the cut-and-join operator, and our proof is a purely combinatorial one.
The switch Markov chain for sampling irregular graphs

The problem of efficiently sampling from a set of(undirected) graphs with a given degree sequence has many applications. One approach to this problem uses a simple Markov chain, which we call the switch chain, to perform the sampling. The switch chain is known to be rapidly mixing for regular degree sequences. We prove that the switch chain is rapidly mixing for any degree sequence with minimum degree at least 1 and with maximum degree $d_{\max}$ which satisfies $3\leq d_{\max}\leq \frac{1}{4}\, \sqrt{M}$, where $M$ is the sum of the degrees. The mixing time bound obtained is only an order of $n$ larger than that established in the regular case, where $n$ is the number of vertices.

In this paper, we give sufficient conditions on the spectral radius for a bipartite graph to Hamiltonian and traceable, which expand the results of Lu, Liu and Tian (2012) [10]. Furthermore, we also present tight sufficient conditions on the signless Laplacian spectral radius for a graph to Hamiltonian and traceable, which improve the results of Yu and Fan (2012) [12].
Mutually Unbiased Bush-type Hadamard Matrices and Association Schemes

It was shown by LeCompte, Martin, and Oweans in 2010 that the existence of mutually unbiased Hadamard matrices and the identity matrix, which coincide with mutually unbiased bases, is equivalent to that of a $Q$-polynomial association scheme of class four which is both $Q$-antipodal and $Q$-bipartite. We prove that the existence of a set of mutually unbiased Bush-type Hadamard matrices is equivalent to that of an association scheme of class five. As an application of this equivalence, we obtain the upper bound of the number of mutually unbiased Bush-type Hadamard matrices of order $4n^2$ to be $2n-1$. This is in contrast to the fact that the upper bound of mutually unbiased Hadamard matrices of order $4n^2$ is $2n^2$. We also discuss a relation of our scheme to some fusion schemes which are $Q$-antipodal and $Q$-bipartite $Q$-polynomial of class $4$.
Balancing Sets of Vectors
Let $n$ be an arbitrary integer, let $p$ be a prime factor of $n$. Denote by $ω_1$ the $p^{th}$ primitive unity root, $ω_1:=e^{\frac{2πi}{p}}$. Define $ω_i:=ω_1^i$ for $0\leq i\leq p-1$ and $B:=\{1,ω_1,...,ω_{p-1}\}^n$. Denote by $K(n,p)$ the minimum $k$ for which there exist vectors $v_1,...,v_k\in B$ such that for any vector $w\in B$, there is an $i$, $1\leq i\leq k$, such that $v_i\cdot w=0$, where $v\cdot w$ is the usual scalar product of $v$ and $w$. Gröbner basis methods and linear algebra proof gives the lower bound $K(n,p)\geq n(p-1)$. Galvin posed the following problem: Let $m=m(n)$ denote the minimal integer such that there exists subsets $A_1,...,A_m$ of $\{1,...,4n\}$ with $|A_i|=2n$ for each $1\leq i\leq n$, such that for any subset $B\subseteq [4n]$ with $2n$ elements there is at least one $i$, $1\leq i\leq m$, with $A_i\cap B$ having $n$ elements. We obtain here the result $m(p)\geq p$ in the case of $p>3$ primes.

Tutte's 5-Flow Conjecture from 1954 states that every bridgeless graph has a nowhere-zero 5-flow. In 2004, Kochol proved that the conjecture is equivalent to its restriction on cyclically 6-edge connected cubic graphs. We prove that every cyclically 6-edge-connected cubic graph with oddness at most 4 has a nowhere-zero 5-flow.
