For $i = 0, 1, \ldots, n$, let $C_i$ be independent and identically distributed random variables with distribution $F$ with support $(0,\infty)$. The number of zeros of the random tropical polynomials $\mathcal{T}f_n(x) = \min_{i=1,\ldots,n}(C_i + ix)$ is also the number of faces of the lower convex hull of the $n+1$ random points $(i,C_i)$ in $\mathbb{R}^2$. We show that this number, $Z_n$, satisfies a central limit theorem when $F$ has polynomial decay near $0$. Specifically, if $F$ near $0$ behaves like a $gamma(a,1)$ distribution for some $a > 0$, then $Z_n$ has the same asymptotics as the number of renewals on the interval $[0,\log(n)/a]$ of a renewal process with inter-arrival distribution $-\log(Beta(a,2))$. Our proof draws on connections between random partitions, renewal theory and random polytopes. In particular, we obtain generalizations and simple proofs of the central limit theorem for the number of vertices of the convex hull of $n$ uniform random points in a square. Our work leads to many open problems in stochastic tropical geometry, the study of functionals and intersections of random tropical varieties.

The Adams operators $Ψ_n$ on a Hopf algebra $H$ are the convolution powers of the identity of $H$. We study the Adams operators when $H$ is graded connected. They are also called Hopf powers or Sweedler powers. The main result is a complete description of the characteristic polynomial (both eigenvalues and their multiplicities) for the action of the operator $Ψ_n$ on each homogeneous component of $H$. The eigenvalues are powers of $n$. The multiplicities are independent of $n$, and in fact only depend on the dimension sequence of $H$. These results apply in particular to the antipode of $H$ (the case $n=-1$). We obtain closed forms for the generating function of the sequence of traces of the Adams operators. In the case of the antipode, the generating function bears a particularly simple relationship to the one for the dimension sequence. In case H is cofree, we give an alternative description for the characteristic polynomial and the trace of the antipode in terms of certain palindromic words. We discuss parallel results that hold for Hopf monoids in species and $q$-Hopf algebras.
On groups all of whose undirected Cayley graphs of bounded valency are integral
A finite group $G$ is called Cayley integral if all undirected Cayley graphs over $G$ are integral, i.e., all eigenvalues of the graphs are integers. The Cayley integral groups have been determined by Kloster and Sander in the abelian case, and by Abdollahi and Jazaeri, and independently by Ahmady, Bell and Mohar in the non-abelian case. In this paper we generalize this class of groups by introducing the class $\mathcal{G}_k$ of finite groups $G$ for which all graphs $\mathrm{Cay}(G,S)$ are integral if $|S| \le k$. It will be proved that $\mathcal{G}_k$ consists of the Cayley integral groups if $k \ge 6;$ and the classes $\mathcal{G}_4$ and $\mathcal{G}_5$ are equal, and consist of:\ (1) the Cayley integral groups, (2) the generalized dicyclic groups $\mathrm{Dic}(E_{3^n} \times \mathbb{Z}_6),$ where $n \ge 1$.
Rainbow eulerian multidigraphs and the product of cycles
An arc colored eulerian multidigraph with $l$ colors is rainbow eulerian if there is an eulerian circuit in which a sequence of $l$ colors repeats. The digraph product that refers the title was introduced by Figueroa-Centeno et al. as follows: let $D$ be a digraph and let $Γ$ be a family of digraphs such that $V(F)=V$ for every $F\in Γ$. Consider any function $h:E(D)\longrightarrowΓ$. Then the product $D\otimes_{h} Γ$ is the digraph with vertex set $V(D)\times V$ and $((a,x),(b,y))\in E(D\otimes_{h}Γ)$ if and only if $ (a,b)\in E(D)$ and $ (x,y)\in E(h (a,b))$.
In this paper we use rainbow eulerian multidigraphs and permutations as a way to characterize the $\otimes_h$-product of oriented cycles. We study the behavior of the $\otimes_h$-product when applied to digraphs with unicyclic components. The results obtained allow us to get edge-magic labelings of graphs formed by the union of unicyclic components and with different magic sums.
A short proof of the Deutsch-Sagan congruence for connected non crossing graphs
We give a short proof, using Lagrange inversion, of a congruence modulo 3 for the number of connected noncrossing graphs on n vertices that was conjectured by Emeric Deutsch and Bruce Sagan. A more complicated proof had been given earlier by S.-P. Eu, S.-C. Liu, and Y.-N. Yeh.
When does a biased graph come from a group labelling?

A biased graph consists of a graph $G$ together with a collection of distinguished cycles of $G$, called balanced cycles, with the property that no theta subgraph contains exactly two balanced cycles. Perhaps the most natural biased graphs on $G$ arise from orienting $G$ and then labelling the edges of $G$ with elements of a group $Γ$. In this case, we may define a biased graph by declaring a cycle to be balanced if the product of the labels on its edges is the identity, with the convention that we take the inverse value for an edge traversed backwards. Our first result gives a natural topological characterisation of biased graphs arising from group-labellings.
In the second part of this article, we use this theorem to construct some exceptional biased graphs. Notably, we prove that for every $m \ge 3$ and $\ell$ there exists a minor minimal not group labellable biased graph on $m$ vertices where every pair of vertices is joined by at least $\ell$ edges. Finally, we show that these results extend to give infinite families of excluded minors for certain families of frame and lift matroids.
There is no square-complementary graph of girth 6
A graph is {\it square-complementary} ({\it squco}, for short) if its square and complement are isomorphic. We prove that there is no squco graph of girth $6$, thus answersing a question asked by Milani\vc et al. [Discrete Math., 2014, to appear], and leaving $g = 5$ as the only possible value of $g$ for which the existence of a squco graph of girth $g$ is unknown.
Extended Formulations for Sparsity Matroids

We show the existence of a polynomial-size extended formulation for the base polytope of a $(k,\ell)$-sparsity matroid. For an undirected graph $G=(V,E)$, the size of the formulation is $O(|V||E|)$ when $k \geq \ell$ and $O(|V|^2 |E|)$ when $k \leq \ell$. To this end, we employ the technique developed by Faenza et al. recently that uses a randomized communication protocol.
S-Packing Colorings of Cubic Graphs
Given a non-decreasing sequence $S=(s\_1,s\_2, \ldots, s\_k)$ of positive integers, an {\em $S$-packing coloring} of a graph $G$ is a mapping $c$ from $V(G)$ to $\{s\_1,s\_2, \ldots, s\_k\}$ such that any two vertices with color $s\_i$ are at mutual distance greater than $s\_i$, $1\le i\le k$. This paper studies $S$-packing colorings of (sub)cubic graphs. We prove that subcubic graphs are $(1,2,2,2,2,2,2)$-packing colorable and $(1,1,2,2,3)$-packing colorable. For subdivisions of subcubic graphs we derive sharper bounds, and we provide an example of a cubic graph of order $38$ which is not $(1,2,\ldots,12)$-packing colorable.
Involution Statistics in Finite Coxeter Groups
Let $W$ be a finite Coxeter group and $X$ a subset of $W$. The length polynomial $L_{W,X}(t)$ is defined by $L_{W,X}(t) = \sum_{x \in X} t^{\ell(x)}$, where $\ell$ is the length function on $W$. In this article we derive expressions for the length polynomial where $X$ is any conjugacy class of involutions, or the set of all involutions, in any finite Coxeter group $W$. In particular, these results correct errors in the paper "Permutation statistics on involutions", W.M.B. Dukes., European J. Combin. 28 (2007), 186--198. for the involution length polynomials of Coxeter groups of type $B_n$ and $D_n$. Moreover, we give a counterexample to a unimodality conjecture of Dukes.
Restricted ascent sequences and Catalan numbers

Ascent sequences are those consisting of non-negative integers in which the size of each letter is restricted by the number of ascents preceding it and have been shown to be equinumerous with the (2+2)-free posets of the same size. Furthermore, connections to a variety of other combinatorial structures, including set partitions, permutations, and certain integer matrices, have been made. In this paper, we identify all members of the (4,4)-Wilf equivalence class for ascent sequences corresponding to the Catalan number C_n=\frac{1}{n+1}\binom{2n}{n}. This extends recent work concerning avoidance of a single pattern and provides apparently new combinatorial interpretations for C_n. In several cases, the subset of the class consisting of those members having exactly m ascents is given by the Narayana number N_{n,m+1}=\frac{1}{n}\binom{n}{m+1}\binom{n}{m}.
A Study on Sprout Graphs

Sprout graphs are finite directed graphs matured over a finite subset of the non-negative time line. A simple undirected connected graph on at least two vertices is required to construct an infant graph to mature from. The maxi-max arc-weight principle and the maxi-min arc-weight principle are introduced in the paper. These principles are used to determine the maximum and minimum maturity weight of a sprout graph.
Tree-depth and Vertex-minors
In a recent paper, Kwon and Oum claim that every graph of bounded rank-width is a pivot-minor of a graph of bounded tree-width (while the converse has been known true already before). We study the analogous questions for "depth" parameters of graphs, namely for the tree-depth and related new shrub-depth. We show that shrub-depth is monotone under taking vertex-minors, and that every graph class of bounded shrub-depth can be obtained via vertex-minors of graphs of bounded tree-depth. We also consider the same questions for bipartite graphs and pivot-minors.

In [U. Dempwolff: \textit{More Translation Planes and Semifields from Dembowski-Ostrom Polynomials}, Designs, Codes, Cryptogr. \textbf{68} (1-3) (2013), 81--103] three classes of rank two presemifields of order $q^{2n}$, with $q$ and $n$ odd, were exhibited, leaving as an open problem the isotopy issue. In [M. Lavrauw, G. Marino, O. Polverino, R. Trombetti: \textit{Solution to an isotopism question concerning rank 2 semifields}, J. Comb. Des., to appear. Consider a translation-invariant system of linear equations $V x = 0$ of complexity one, where $V$ is an integer $r \times t$ matrix. We show that if $A$ is a subset of the primes up to $N$ of density at least $C(\log\log N)^{-1/25t}$, there exists a solution $x \in A^t$ to $V x = 0$ with distinct coordinates. This extends a quantitative result of Helfgott and de Roton for three-term arithmetic progressions, while the qualitative result is known to hold for all systems of equations of finite complexity by the work of Green and Tao.

An open-locating-dominating set (OLD-set) is a subset of vertices of a graph such that every vertex in the graph has at least one neighbor in the set and no two vertices in the graph have the same set of neighbors in the set. This is an analogue to the well-studied identifying code in the literature. In this paper, we prove that the optimal density of the OLD-set for the infinite triangular grid is $4/13$.
Hypergraph Acyclicity Revisited

The notion of graph acyclicity has been extended to several different notions of hypergraph acyclicity, in increasing order of generality: gamma acyclicity, beta acyclicity, and alpha acyclicity, that have met a great interest in many fields. We prove the equivalence between the numerous characterizations of each notion with a new, simpler proof, in a self-contained manner. For that purpose, we introduce new notions of alpha, beta and gamma leaf that allow to define new "rule-based" characterizations of each notion. The combined presentation of the notions is completed with a study of their respective closure properties. New closure results are established, and alpha, beta and gamma acyclicity are proved optimal w.r.t. their closure properties.

Applications of harmonic analysis on finite groups are introduced to measure partition problems, with equipartitions obtained as the vanishing of prescribed Fourier transforms. For elementary abelian groups $Z_p^k$, $p$ an odd prime, equipartitions are by $k$-tuples of complex regular $p$-fans in $\mathbb{C}^d$, analogues of the famous Grünbaum problem on equipartitions in $\mathbb{R}^d$ by $k$-tuples of hyperplanes (i.e., regular 2-fans). Here the number of regions is a prime power, as usual in topological applications to combinatorial geometry. For general abelian groups, however, the Fourier perspective yields new classes of equipartitions by families of complex regular fans $F_{q_1},\ldots, F_{q_k}$ (such as those of a "Makeev-type"), including when the number of regions is not a prime power.

The enumerative theory of simplicial subdivisions (triangulations) of simplicial complexes was developed by Stanley in order to understand the effect of such subdivisions on the $h$-vector of a simplicial complex. A key role there is played by the concept of a local $h$-vector. This paper surveys some of the highlights of this theory and some recent developments, concerning subdivisions of flag homology spheres and their $γ$-vectors. Several interesting examples and open problems are discussed.
Frustration in signed graphs
Zaslavsky conjectured the following: The minimum number of vertices to be deleted to restore balance in a subcubic signed graph is the same as the minimum number of edges to be deleted to restore balance. We prove this conjecture. Also, we obtain a bound for these invariants in a special class of signed graphs.
