Let $V(n,k,s)$ be the set of $k$-subsets $S$ of $[n]$ such that for all $i,j\in S$, we have $|i-j|\geq s$ We define almost $s$-stable Kneser hypergraph $KG^r{{[n]}\choose k}_{s{\tiny{\textup{-stab}}}}^{\displaystyle\sim}$ to be the $r$-uniform hypergraph whose vertex set is $V(n,k,s)$ and whose edges are the $r$-uples of disjoint elements of $V(n,k,s)$.
With the help of a $Z_p$-Tucker lemma, we prove that, for $p$ prime and for any $n\geq kp$, the chromatic number of almost 2-stable Kneser hypergraphs $KG^p {{[n]}\choose k}_{2{\tiny{\textup{-stab}}}}^{\displaystyle\sim}$ is equal to the chromatic number of the usual Kneser hypergraphs $KG^p{{[n]}\choose k}$, namely that it is equal to $\lceil\frac{n-(k-1)p}{p-1}\rceil.$
Defining $μ(r)$ to be the number of prime divisors of $r$, counted with multiplicities, this result implies that the chromatic number of almost $2^{μ(r)}$-stable Kneser hypergraphs $KG^r{{[n]}\choose k}_{2^{μ(r)}{\tiny{\textup{-stab}}}}^{\displaystyle\sim}$ is equal to the chromatic number of the usual Kneser hypergraphs $KG^r{{[n]}\choose k}$ for any $n\geq kr$, namely that it is equal to $\lceil\frac{n-(k-1)r}{r-1}\rceil.$
Reduced Kronecker products which are multiplicity free or contain only few components

It is known that the Kronecker coefficient of three partitions is a bounded and weakly increasing sequence if one increases the first part of all three partitions. Furthermore if the first parts of partitions λ,μare big enough then the coefficients of the Kronecker product [λ][μ]=\sum_\n g(ł,\m,\n)[ν] do not depend on the first part but only on the other parts. The reduced Kronecker product [λ]_\bullet \star[μ]_\bullet can be viewed (roughly) as the Kronecker product [(n-|λ|,λ)][(n-|μ|,\m)] for n big enough. In this paper we classify the reduced Kronecker products which are multiplicity free and those which contain less than 10 components. We furthermore give general lower bounds for the number of constituents and components of a given reduced Kronecker product. We also give a lower bound for the number of pairs of components whose corresponding partitions differ by one box. Finally we argue that equality of two reduced Kronecker products is only possible in the trivial case that the factors of the product are the same.
Group Marriage Problem

Let $G$ be a permutation group acting on $[n]=\{1, ..., n\}$ and $\mathcal{V}=\{V_{i}: i=1, ..., n\}$ be a system of $n$ subsets of $[n]$. When is there an element $g \in G$ so that $g(i) \in V_{i}$ for each $i \in [n]$? If such $g$ exists, we say that $G$ has a $G$-marriage subject to $\mathcal{V}$. An obvious necessary condition is the {\it orbit condition}: for any $\emptyset \not = Y \subseteq [n]$, $\bigcup_{y \in Y} V_{y} \supseteq Y^{g}=\{g(y): y \in Y \}$ for some $g \in G$. Keevash (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 111(2005), 289--309) observed that the orbit condition is sufficient when $G$ is the symmetric group $\Sym([n])$; this is in fact equivalent to the celebrated Hall's Marriage Theorem. We prove that the orbit condition is sufficient if and only if $G$ is a direct product of symmetric groups. We extend the notion of orbit condition to that of $k$-orbit condition and prove that if $G$ is the alternating group $\Alt([n])$ or the cyclic group $C_{n}$ where $n \ge 4$, then $G$ satisfies the $(n-1)$-orbit condition subject to $\V$ if and only if $G$ has a $G$-marriage subject to $\mathcal{V}$.
The Spectrum of Quantum Caps in PG(4,4)
We prove the non existence of quantum caps of sizes 37 and 39. This completes the spectrum of quantum caps in PG(4, 4). This also implies the non existence of linear [[37,27,4]] and [[39,29,4]]-codes. The problem of the existence of non linear quantum codes with such parameters remains still open.
A generalization of $k$-Cohen-Macaulay complexes

For a positive integer $k$ and a non-negative integer $t$ a class of simplicial complexes, to be denoted by $k$-${\rm CM}_t$, is introduced. This class generalizes two notions for simplicial complexes: being $k$-Cohen-Macaulay and $k$-Buchsbaum. In analogy with the Cohen-Macaulay and Buchsbaum complexes, we give some characterizations of ${\rm CM}_t(=$1-${\rm CM}_t)$ complexes, in terms of vanishing of some homologies of its links and, in terms of vanishing of some relative singular homologies of the geometric realization of the complex and its punctured space. We show that a complex is $k$-${\rm CM}_t$ if and only if the links of its nonempty faces are $k$-${\rm CM}_{t-1}$. We prove that for an integer $s\le d$, the $(d-s-1)$-skeleton of a $(d-1)$-dimensional $k$-${\rm CM}_t$ complex is $(k+s)$-${\rm CM}_t$. This result generalizes Hibi's result for Cohen-Macaulay complexes and Miyazaki's result for Buchsbaum complexes.
Properties of $θ$-super positive graphs

Let the matching polynomial of a graph $G$ be denoted by $μ(G,x)$. A graph $G$ is said to be $θ$-super positive if $μ(G,θ)\neq 0$ and $μ(G\setminus v,θ)=0$ for all $v\in V(G)$. In particular, $G$ is 0-super positive if and only if $G$ has a perfect matching. While much is known about 0-super positive graphs, almost nothing is known about $θ$-super positive graphs for $θ\not = 0$. This motivates us to investigate the structure of $θ$-super positive graphs in this paper. Though a 0-super positive graph may not contain any cycle, we show that a $θ$-super positive graph with $θ\not = 0$ must contain a cycle. We introduce two important types of $θ$-super positive graphs, namely $θ$-elementary and $θ$-base graphs. One of our main results is that any $θ$-super positive graph $G$ can be constructed by adding certain type of edges to a disjoint union of $θ$-base graphs; moreover, these $θ$-base graphs are uniquely determined by $G$. We also give a characterization of $θ$-elementary graphs: a graph $G$ is $θ$-elementary if and only if the set of all its $θ$-barrier sets form a partition of $V(G)$. Here, $θ$-elementary graphs and $θ$-barrier sets can be regarded as $θ$-analogue of elementary graphs and Tutte sets in classical matching theory.
Locally finite graphs with ends: a topological approach

This paper is intended as an introductory survey of a newly emerging field: a topological approach to the study of locally finite graphs that crucially incorporates their ends. Topological arcs and circles, which may pass through ends, assume the role played in finite graphs by paths and cycles.
This approach has made it possible to extend to locally finite graphs many classical theorems of finite graph theory that do not extend verbatim. The shift of paradigm it proposes is thus as much an answer to old questions as a source of new ones; many concrete problems of both types are suggested in the paper.
This paper attempts to provide an entry point to this field for readers that have not followed the literature that has emerged in the last 10 years or so. It takes them on a quick route through what appear to be the most important lasting results, introduces them to key proof techniques, identifies the most promising open problems, and offers pointers to the literature for more detail.

We prove that when a digraph $G$ has a Maltsev polymorphism, then $G$ also has a majority polymorphism. We consider the consequences of this result for the structure of Maltsev graphs and the complexity of the Constraint Satisfaction Problem.
Random skew plane partitions with a piecewise periodic back wall

Random skew plane partitions of large size distributed according to an appropriately scaled Schur process develop limit shapes. In the present work we consider the limit of large random skew plane partitions where the inner boundary approaches a piecewise linear curve with non-lattice slopes, describing the limit shape and the local fluctuations in various regions. This analysis is fairly similar to that in [OR2], but we do find some new behavior. For instance, the boundary of the limit shape is now a single smooth (not algebraic) curve, whereas the boundary in [OR2] is singular. We also observe the bead process introduced in [B] appearing in the asymptotics at the top of the limit shape.
Eigenvalues of Transmission Graph Laplacians
The standard notion of the Laplacian of a graph is generalized to the setting of a graph with the extra structure of a ``transmission`` system. A transmission system is a mathematical representation of a means of transmitting (multi-parameter) data along directed edges from vertex to vertex. The associated transmission graph Laplacian is shown to have many of the former properties of the classical case, including: an upper Cheeger type bound on the second eigenvalue minus the first of a geometric isoperimetric character, relations of this difference of eigenvalues to diameters for k-regular graphs, eigenvalues for Cayley graphs with transmission systems. An especially natural transmission system arises in the context of a graph endowed with an association. Other relations to transmission systems arising naturally in quantum mechanics, where the transmission matrices are scattering matrices, are made. As a natural merging of graph theory and matrix theory, there are numerous potential applications, for example to random graphs and random matrices.

Let H = (V,E) be a k-uniform hypergraph with a vertex set V and an edge set E. Let V_p be constructed by taking every vertex in V independently with probability p. Let X be the number of edges in E that are contained in V_p. We give a condition that guarantees the concentration of X within a small interval around its mean. The applicability of this result is demonstrated by deriving new sub-Gaussian tails for the number of copies of small complete and complete bipartite graphs in the binomial random graph, extending results of Ruciński and Vu.
Time evolution of dense multigraph limits under edge-conservative preferential attachment dynamics
We define the edge reconnecting model, a random multigraph evolving in time. At each time step we change one endpoint of a uniformly chosen edge: the new endpoint is chosen by linear preferential attachment. We consider a sequence of edge reconnecting models where the sequence of initial multigraphs is convergent in a sense which is a natural generalization of the notion of convergence of dense graph sequences, defined by Lovasz and Szegedy in arXiv:math/0408173. We investigate how the limit object evolves under the edge reconnecting dynamics if we rescale time properly: we give the complete characterization of the time evolution of the limit object from its initial state up to the stationary state, which is described in the companion paper arXiv:1106.2058. In our proofs we use the theory of exchangeable arrays, queuing and diffusion processes. The number of parallel edges and the degrees evolve on different timescales and because of this the model exhibits subaging.
A note on the third invariant factor of the Laplacian matrix of a graph
Let $G$ be a simple connected graph with $n\geq 5$ vertices. In this note, we will prove that $s_3(G)\leq n$, and characterize the graphs which satisfy that $s_3(G)=n, n-1, n-2, $ or $n-3$, where $s_3(G)$ is the third invariant factor of the Laplacian matrix of $G$.

The dunce hat in a minimal non-extendably collapsible 3-ball
We obtain a geometric realization of a minimal 8-vertex triangulation of the dunce hat in Euclidean 3-space. We show there is a simplicial 3-ball with 8 vertices that is collapsible, but also collapses onto the dunce hat, which is not collapsible. This 3-ball is as small as possible, because all triangulated 3-balls with fewer vertices are extendably collapsible. As we will see, the Alexander dual of the dunce hat is collapsible.

It is well known that the permutahedron Pi_n has 2^n-2 facets. The Birkhoff polytope provides a symmetric extended formulation of Pi_n of size Theta(n^2). Recently, Goemans described a non-symmetric extended formulation of Pi_n of size Theta(n log(n)). In this paper, we prove that Omega(n^2) is a lower bound for the size of symmetric extended formulations of Pi_n.

We present counting methods for some special classes of multivariate polynomials over a finite field, namely the reducible ones, the s-powerful ones (divisible by the s-th power of a nonconstant polynomial), and the relatively irreducible ones (irreducible but reducible over an extension field). One approach employs generating functions, another one uses a combinatorial method. They yield exact formulas and approximations with relative errors that essentially decrease exponentially in the input size.
Satisfying states of triangulations of a convex n-gon
In this work we count the number of satisfying states of triangulations of a convex n-gon using the transfer matrix method. We show an exponential (in n) lower bound. We also give the exact formula for the number of satisfying states of a strip of triangles.
