Partial and Exact Recovery of a Random Hypergraph from its Graph Projection
Consider a $d$-uniform random hypergraph on $n$ vertices in which hyperedges are included iid so that the average degree is $n^δ$. The projection of a hypergraph is a graph on the same $n$ vertices where an edge connects two vertices if and only if they belong to some hyperedge. The goal is to reconstruct the hypergraph given its projection. An earlier work of Bresler, Guo, and Polyanskiy (COLT 2024) showed that exact recovery for $d=3$ is possible if and only if $δ< 2/5$. This work completely resolves the question for all values of $d$ for both exact and partial recovery and for both cases of whether multiplicity information about each edge is available or not. In addition, we show that the reconstruction fidelity undergoes an all-or-nothing transition at a threshold. In particular, this resolves all conjectures from Bresler, Guo, and Polyanskiy (COLT 2024).

On the clique covering numbers of Johnson graphs
Published in Des. Codes Cryptogr. (2025) • View PublicationBIB
We initiate a study of the vertex clique covering numbers of Johnson graphs $J(N, k)$, the smallest numbers of cliques necessary to cover the vertices of those graphs. We prove identities for the values of these numbers when $k \leq 3$, and $k \geq N - 3$, and using computational methods, we provide explicit values for a range of small graphs. By drawing on connections to coding theory and combinatorial design theory, we prove various bounds on the clique covering numbers for general Johnson graphs, and we show how constant-weight lexicodes can be utilized to create optimal covers of $J(2k, k)$ when $k$ is a small power of two.

On limiting distributions of Graham, Knuth, Patashnik recurrences
Graham, Knuth and Patashnik in their book Concrete Mathematics called for development of a general theory of the solutions of recurrences defined by $$\left|{ n\atop k}\right|=(αn+βk+γ)\left|{n-1\atop k}\right|+(α' n+β' k+γ')\left|{n-1\atop k-1}\right|+I_{n=k=0}$$ for $0\le k\le n$ and six parameters $α,β,γ,α'β',γ'$. Since then, a number of authors investigated various properties of the solutions of these recurrences. In this note we consider a probabilistic aspect, namely we consider the limiting distributions of sequences of integer valued random variables naturally associated with the solutions of such recurrences. We will give a complete description of the limiting behavior when $α'=0$ and the remaining five parameters are non--negative.

On Bass' conjecture of the small Davenport constant
Let $G$ be a finite group. The small Davenport constant $\mathsf d(G)$ of $G$ is the maximal integer $\ell$ such that there is a sequence of length $\ell$ over $G$ which has no nonempty product-one subsequence. In 2007, Bass conjectured that $\mathsf d(G_{m,n})=m+n-2$, where $G_{m,n}=\langle x, y| x^m=y^n=1, x^{-1}yx=y^s\rangle$, and $s$ has order $m$ modulo $n$. In this paper, we confirm the conjecture for any group $G_{m,n}$ with additional conditions that $s$ has order $m$ modulo $q$, for every prime divisor $q$ of $n$. Moreover, we solve the associated inverse problem characterizing the structure of any product-one free sequence with extremal length $\mathsf d(G_{m,n})$. Our results generalize some obtained theorems on this problem.

The resistance distance of a dual number weighted graph
For a graph $G=(V,E)$, assigning each edge $e\in E$ a weight of a dual number $w(e)=1+\widehat{a}_{e}\varepsilon$, the weighted graph $G^{w}=(V,E,w)$ is called a dual number weighted graph, where $-\widehat{a}_{e}$ can be regarded as the perturbation of the unit resistor on edge $e$ of $G$. For a connected dual number weighted graph $G^{w}$, we give some expressions and block representations of generalized inverses of the Laplacian matrix of $G^{w}$. And using these results, we derive the explicit formulas of the resistance distance and Kirchhoff index of $G^{w}$. We give the perturbation bounds for the resistance distance and Kirchhoff index of $G$. In particular, when only the edge $e=\{i,j\}$ of $G$ is perturbed, we give the perturbation bounds for the Kirchhoff index and resistance distance between vertices $i$ and $j$ of $G$, respectively.

Infinitely many accumulation points of codegree Turán densities
The codegree Turán density $γ(F)$ of a $k$-graph $F$ is the smallest $γ\in[0,1)$ such that every $k$-graph $H$ with $δ_{k-1}(H)\geq(γ+o(1))\vert V(H)\vert$ contains a copy of $F$. We prove that for all $k,r\in\mathbb{N}$ with $k\geq3$, $\frac{r-1}{r}$ is an accumulation point of $Γ^{(k)}=\{γ(F):F\text{ is a }k\text{-graph}\}$. This makes progress on a problem posed by Mubayi and Zhao.

Rubik's Abstract Polytopes
We generalize the Rubik's cube, together with its group of configurations, to any abstract regular polytope. After discussing general aspects, we study the Rubik's simplex of arbitrary dimension and provide a complete description of the associated group. We sketch an analogous argument for the Rubik's hypercube as well.
Quotients of skew polynomial rings: new constructions of division algebras and MRD codes
We achieve new results on skew polynomial rings and their quotients, including the first explicit example of a skew polynomial ring where the ratio of the degree of a skew polynomial to the degree of its bound is not extremal. These methods lead to the construction of new (not necessarily associative) division algebras and maximum rank distance (MRD) codes over both finite and infinite division rings. In particular, we construct new non-associative division algebras whose right nucleus is a central simple algebra having degree greater than 1. Over finite fields, we obtain new semifields and MRD codes for infinitely many choices of parameters. These families extend and contain many of the best previously known constructions.

On Strongly Regular Graphs and the Friendship Theorem
This paper presents an alternative proof of the celebrated friendship theorem, originally established by Erdős, Rényi, and Sós (1966). The proof relies on a closed-form expression for the Lovász $\vartheta$-function of strongly regular graphs, recently derived by the author. Additionally, the paper considers some known extensions of the theorem, offering discussions that provide insights into the friendship theorem, one of its extensions, and the proposed proof. Leveraging the closed-form expression for the Lovász $\vartheta$-function of strongly regular graphs, the paper further establishes new necessary conditions for a strongly regular graph to be a spanning or induced subgraph of another strongly regular graph. In the case of induced subgraphs, the analysis also incorporates a property of graph energies. Some of these results are extended to regular graphs and their subgraphs.

Pseudo-involutions in the Riordan group and Chebyshev polynomials
Generalizing the results in our previous paper, we consider pseudo-involutions in the Riordan group where the generating function $g$ for the first column of a Riordan array satisfies a functional equation of certain types involving a polynomial. For those types of equations, we find the pseudo-involutory companion of $g$. We also develop a general method for finding B-functions of Riordan pseudo-involutions in the cases we consider, and show that these B-functions involve Chebyshev polynomials. We apply our method for several families of Riordan arrays, obtaining new results and deriving known results more efficiently.

On a theorem of François Robert
A well-known theorem by François Robert expresses the degenerated character of a synchronous Boolean finite dynamical system, in the case where the associated regulatory graph does not contain any circuit: all states of the system go towards a single fixed point. We present a large family of updating modes of Boolean models with the same particularity.

A Sharp Bound on Large Planar Signed Vector Sums
We give a sharp lower bound to the largest possible Euclidean norm of signed sums of $n$ vectors in the plane. This is achieved by connecting the signed vector sum problem to the isoperimetric problem for the circumradius of polygons. In turn, we apply the sharp bound for the signed vector sum problem to establish a sharp lower bound to the circumradius of the Minkowski sum of $n$ planar symmetric convex bodies. We also determine a tight lower bound to the circumradius of the Minkowski sum of general convex bodies in any dimension independent of their number.

Ribbon blocks for centraliser algebras of symmetric groups
Suppose $l,m$ are natural numbers with $l\le m$, and $\mathbb{F}$ a field of characteristic $p$, and let $\mathcal{C}_{l,m}^{\mathbb{F}}$ denote the centraliser of the group algebra $\mathbb{F}S_l$ inside $\mathbb{F}S_m$. Ellers and Murray give a conjectured classification of the blocks of $\mathcal{C}_{l,m}^{\mathbb{F}}$, in terms of the $p$-blocks of $S_l$ and $S_m$. We prove this conjecture for a family of blocks that we call ribbon blocks and belt blocks. These are the blocks containing Specht modules labelled by skew partitions having no repeated entries in their $p$-content.

Ramsey-type problems for tilings in dense graphs
Given a graph $H$, the Ramsey number $R(H)$ is the smallest positive integer $n$ such that every $2$-edge-colouring of $K_n$ yields a monochromatic copy of $H$. We write $mH$ to denote the union of $m$ vertex-disjoint copies of $H$. The members of the family $\{mH:m\ge1\}$ are also known as $H$-tilings. A well-known result of Burr, Erdős and Spencer states that $R(mK_3)=5m$ for every $m\ge2$. On the other hand, Moon proved that every $2$-edge-colouring of $K_{3m+2}$ yields a $K_3$-tiling consisting of $m$ monochromatic copies of $K_3$, for every $m\ge2$. Crucially, in Moon's result, distinct copies of $K_3$ might receive different colours. In this paper, we investigate the analogous questions where the complete host graph is replaced by a graph of large minimum degree. We determine the (asymptotic) minimum degree threshold for forcing a~$K_3$-tiling covering a prescribed proportion of the vertices in a $2$-edge-coloured graph such that every copy of $K_3$ in the tiling is monochromatic. We also determine the largest size of a monochromatic $K_3$-tiling one can guarantee in any $2$-edge-coloured graph of large minimum degree. These results therefore provide generalisations of the theorems of Moon and Burr-Erdős-Spencer to the setting of dense graphs. It is also natural to consider generalisations of these problems to $r$-edge-colourings (for $r \geq 2$) and for $H$-tilings (for arbitrary graphs $H$). We prove some results in this direction and propose several open questions.

Near-Optimal List-Recovery of Linear Code Families
We prove several results on linear codes achieving list-recovery capacity. We show that random linear codes achieve list-recovery capacity with constant output list size (independent of the alphabet size and length). That is, over alphabets of size at least $\ell^{Ω(1/\varepsilon)}$, random linear codes of rate $R$ are $(1-R-\varepsilon, \ell, (\ell/\varepsilon)^{O(\ell/\varepsilon)})$-list-recoverable for all $R\in(0,1)$ and $\ell$. Together with a result of Levi, Mosheiff, and Shagrithaya, this implies that randomly punctured Reed-Solomon codes also achieve list-recovery capacity. We also prove that our output list size is near-optimal among all linear codes: all $(1-R-\varepsilon, \ell, L)$-list-recoverable linear codes must have $L\ge \ell^{Ω(R/\varepsilon)}$. Our simple upper bound combines the Zyablov-Pinsker argument with recent bounds from Kopparty, Ron-Zewi, Saraf, Wootters, and Tamo on the maximum intersection of a "list-recovery ball" and a low-dimensional subspace with large distance. Our lower bound is inspired by a recent lower bound of Chen and Zhang.

Vertex functions of type $D$ Nakajima quiver varieties
We study the quasimap vertex functions of type $D$ Nakajima quiver varieties. When the quiver varieties have isolated torus fixed points, we compute the coefficients of the vertex functions in the $K$-theoretic fixed point basis. We also give an explicit combinatorial description of zero-dimensional type $D$ quiver varieties and their vertex functions using the combinatorics of minuscule posets. Using Macdonald polynomials, we prove that these vertex functions can be expressed as products of $q$-binomial functions, which proves a degeneration of the conjectured 3d mirror symmetry of vertex functions. We provide an interpretation of type $D$ spin vertex functions as the partition functions of the half-space Macdonald processes of Barraquand, Borodin, and Corwin. This hints that the geometry of quiver varieties may provide new examples of integrable probabilistic models.

The least balanced graphs and trees
Given a connected graph, the principal eigenvector of the adjacency matrix (often called the Perron vector) can be used to assign positive weights to the vertices. A natural way to measure the homogeneousness of this vector is by considering the ratio of its $\ell^1$ and $\ell^2$ norms. It is easy to see that the most balanced graphs in this sense (i.e., the ones with the largest ratio) are the regular graphs. What about the least balanced graphs with the smallest ratio? It was conjectured by Rücker, Rücker and Gutman that, for any given $n \geq 6$, among $n$-vertex connected graphs the smallest ratio is achieved by the complete graph $K_4$ with a single path $P_{n-4}$ attached to one of its vertices. In this paper we confirm this conjecture. We also verify the analogous conjecture for trees: for any given $n \geq 8$, among $n$-vertex trees the smallest ratio is achieved by the star graph $S_5$ with a path $P_{n-5}$ attached to its central vertex.

Quasimodular Asymptotics of Spherical Integrals
We show that the spherical integral of the Circular Unitary Ensemble converges in expectation to Euler's generating function for integer partitions, and that subleading corrections to this high-dimensional limit are quasimodular forms.
Fixed perimeter analogues of some partition results
Euler's partition identity states that the number of partitions of $n$ into odd parts is equal to the number of partitions of $n$ into distinct parts. Strikingly, Straub proved in 2016 that this identity also holds when counting partitions of any size with largest hook (perimeter) $n$. This has inspired further investigation of partition identities and inequalities in the fixed perimeter setting. Here, we explore fixed perimeter analogues of some well-known partition results inspired by Euler's partition identity.

The planar projectivity of PG(2, $q^3$) of order 3 under field reduction
Let $φ$ be a collineation of $\mathrm{PG}\left(2, q^{3}\right)$ of order 3 which fixes a plane of order $q$ pointwise. The points of $\mathrm{PG}\left(2, q^{3}\right)$ can be partitioned into three types with respect to orbits of $φ$ : fixed points; points $P$ with $P, P^φ, P^{φ^{2}}$ distinct and collinear; and points $P$ with $P, P^φ, P^{φ^{2}}$ not collinear. Under field reduction, the collineation $φ$ corresponds to a projectivity $σ$ of $\operatorname{PG}(8, q)$ of order 3 . With respect to the field reduction and the orbits of $σ$, the points of $\mathrm{PG}(8, q)$ can be partitioned into six types. This article looks at the projectivity $σ$ in detail, and classifies and counts the fixed points, fixed lines and fixed planes. The motivation is to give a description of the lines of the Figueroa projective plane in the $\mathrm{PG}(8, q)$ field reduction setting.
