Vertex-distinguishing and sum-distinguishing edge coloring of regular graphs
Given an integer $k\ge1$, an edge-$k$-coloring of a graph $G$ is an assignment of $k$ colors $1,\ldots,k$ to the edges of $G$ such that no two adjacent edges receive the same color. A vertex-distinguishing (resp. sum-distinguishing) edge-$k$-coloring of $G$ is an edge-$k$-coloring such that for any two distinct vertices $u$ and $v$, the set (resp. sum) of colors taken from all the edges incident with $u$ is different from that taken from all the edges incident with $v$. The vertex-distinguishing chromatic index (resp. sum-distinguishing chromatic index), denoted $χ'_{vd}(G)$ (resp. $χ'_{sd}(G)$), is the smallest value $k$ such that $G$ has a vertex-distinguishing-edge-$k$-coloring (resp. sum-distinguishing-edge-$k$-coloring). Let $G$ be a $d$-regular graph on $n$ vertices, where $n$ is even and sufficiently large. We show that $χ'_{vd}(G) =d+2$ if $d$ is arbitrarily close to $n/2$ from above, and $χ'_{sd}(G) =d+2$ if $d\ge \frac{2n}{3}$. Our first result strengthens a result of Balister et al. in 2004 for such class of regular graphs, and our second result constitutes a significant advancement in the field of sum-distinguishing edge coloring. To achieve these results, we introduce novel edge coloring results which may be of independent interest.

Transversal Structures in Graph Systems: A Survey
Given a system $\mathcal{G} =\{G_1,G_2,\dots,G_m\}$ of graphs/digraphs/hypergraphs on the common vertex set $V$ of size $n$, an $m$-edge graph/digraph/hypergraph $H$ on $V$ is transversal in $\mathcal{G}$ if there exists a bijection $φ:E(H)\rightarrow [m]$ such that $e \in E(G_{φ(e)})$ for all $e\in E(H)$. In this survey, we consider extremal problems for transversal structures in graph systems. More precisely, we summarize some sufficient conditions that ensure the existence of transversal structures in graph/digraph/hypergraph systems, which generalize several classical theorems in extremal graph theory to transversal version. We also include a number of conjectures and open problems.

A strengthening on consecutive odd cycles in graphs of given minimum degree
Liu and Ma [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 2018] conjectured that every $2$-connected non-bipartite graph with minimum degree at least $k+1$ contains $\lceil k/2\rceil $ cycles with consecutive odd lengths. In particular, they showed that this conjecture holds when $k$ is even. In this paper, we confirm this conjecture for any $k\in \mathbb N$. Moreover, we also improve some previous results about cycles of consecutive lengths.

An El-Zahar Type Theorem in $3$-graphs under Codegree Condition
A $3$-uniform loose cycle, denoted by $C_t$, is a $3$-graph on $t$ vertices whose vertices can be arranged cyclically so that each hyperedge consists of three consecutive vertices, and any two consecutive hyperedges share exactly one vertex. The length of $C_t$ is the number of its hyperedges. We prove that for any $η>0$, there exists an $n_0=n_0(η)$ such that for any $n\geq n_0$ the following holds. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a $3$-graph consisting of vertex-disjoint loose cycles $C_{n_1}, C_{n_2}, \ldots, C_{n_r}$ such that $\sum_{i=1}^{r}n_i=n$. Let $k$ be the number of loose cycles with odd lengths in $\mathcal{C}$. If $\mathcal{H}$ is a $3$-graph on $n$ vertices with minimum codegree at least $(n+2k)/4+ηn$, then $\mathcal{H}$ contains $\mathcal{C}$ as a spanning subhypergraph. The degree condition is approximately tight. This generalizes the result of Kühn and Osthus for loose Hamilton cycle and the result of Mycroft for loose cycle factors in $3$-graphs. Our proof relies on the regularity lemma and a transversal blow-up lemma recently developed by the first author and Staden.

Transversal Hamilton paths and cycles
Given a collection $\mathcal{G} =\{G_1,G_2,\dots,G_m\}$ of graphs on the common vertex set $V$ of size $n$, an $m$-edge graph $H$ on the same vertex set $V$ is transversal in $\mathcal{G}$ if there exists a bijection $\varphi :E(H)\rightarrow [m]$ such that $e \in E(G_{\varphi(e)})$ for all $e\in E(H)$. Denote $δ(\mathcal{G}):=\operatorname*{min}\left\{δ(G_i): i\in [m]\right\}$. In this paper, we first establish a minimum degree condition for the existence of transversal Hamilton paths in $\mathcal{G}$: if $n=m+1$ and $δ(\mathcal{G})\geq \frac{n-1}{2}$, then $\mathcal{G}$ contains a transversal Hamilton path. This solves a problem proposed by [Li, Li and Li, J. Graph Theory, 2023]. As a continuation of the transversal version of Dirac's theorem [Joos and Kim, Bull. Lond. Math. Soc., 2020] and the stability result for transversal Hamilton cycles [Cheng and Staden, arXiv:2403.09913v1], our second result characterizes all graph collections with minimum degree at least $\frac{n}{2}-1$ and without transversal Hamilton cycles. We obtain an analogous result for transversal Hamilton paths. The proof is a combination of the stability result for transversal Hamilton paths or cycles, transversal blow-up lemma, along with some structural analysis.

Anti-Ramsey numbers of loose paths and cycles in uniform hypergraphs
For a fixed family of $r$-uniform hypergraphs $\mathcal{F}$, the anti-Ramsey number of $\mathcal{F}$, denoted by $ ar(n,r,\mathcal{F})$, is the minimum number $c$ of colors such that for any edge-coloring of the complete $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices with at least $c$ colors, there is a rainbow copy of some hypergraph in $\mathcal{F}$. Here, a rainbow hypergraph is an edge-colored hypergraph with all edges colored differently. Let $\mathcal{P}_k$ and $\mathcal{C}_k$ be the families of loose paths and loose cycles with $k$ edges in an $r$-uniform hypergraph, respectively. In this paper, we determine the exact values of $ ar(n,r,\mathcal{P}_k)$ and $ ar(n,r,\mathcal{C}_k)$ for all $k\geq 4$ and $r\geq 3$.

Exploring Homological Properties of Independent Complexes of Kneser Graphs
We discuss the topological properties of the independence complex of Kneser graphs, Ind(KG$(n, k))$, with $n\geq 3$ and $k\geq 1$. By identifying one kind of maximal simplices through projective planes, we obtain homology generators for the $6$-dimensional homology of the complex Ind(KG$(3, k))$. Using cross-polytopal generators, we provide lower bounds for the rank of $p$-dimensional homology of the complex Ind(KG$(n, k))$ where $p=1/2\cdot {2n+k\choose 2n}$. Denote $\mathcal{F}_n^{[m]}$ to be the collection of $n$-subsets of $[m]$ equipped with the symmetric difference metric. We prove that if $\ell$ is the minimal integer with the $q$th dimensional reduced homology $\tilde{H}_q(\mathcal{VR}(\mathcal{F}^{[\ell]}_n; 2(n-1)))$ being non-trivial, then $$\text{rank} (\tilde{H}_q(\mathcal{VR}(\mathcal{F}_n^{[m]}; 2(n-1)))\geq \sum_{i=\ell}^m{i-2\choose \ell-2}\cdot \text{rank} (\tilde{H}_q(\mathcal{VR}(\mathcal{F}_n^{[\ell]}; 2(n-1))). $$ Since the independence complex Ind(KG$(n, k))$ and the Vietoris-Rips complex $\mathcal{VR}(\mathcal{F}^{[2n+k]}_n; 2(n-1))$ are the same, we obtain a homology propagation result in the setting of independence complexes of Kneser graphs. Connectivity of these complexes is also discussed in this paper.
Extremal density for subdivisions with length or sparsity constraints
Given a graph $H$, a balanced subdivision of $H$ is obtained by replacing all edges of $H$ with internally disjoint paths of the same length. In this paper, we prove that for any graph $H$, a linear-in-$e(H)$ bound on average degree guarantees a balanced $H$-subdivision. This strengthens an old result of Bollobás and Thomason, and resolves a question of Gil-Fernández, Hyde, Liu, Pikhurko and Wu. We observe that this linear bound on average degree is best possible whenever $H$ is logarithmically dense. We further show that this logarithmic density is the critical threshold: for many graphs $H$ below this density, its subdivisions are forcible by a sublinear-in-$e(H)$ bound on average degree. We provide such examples by proving that the subdivisions of any almost bipartite graph $H$ with sublogarithmic density are forcible by a sublinear-in-$e(H)$ bound on average degree, provided that $H$ satisfies some additional separability condition.

Hypergraphs with irrational Turán density and many extremal configurations
Unlike graphs, determining Turán densities of hypergraphs is known to be notoriously hard in general. The essential reason is that for many classical families of $r$-uniform hypergraphs $\mathcal{F}$, there are perhaps many near-extremal $\mathcal{M}_t$-free configurations with very different structure. Such a phenomenon is called not stable, and Liu and Mubayi gave a first not stable example. Another perhaps reason is that little is known about the set consisting of all possible Turán densities which has cardinality of the continuum. Let $t\ge 2$ be an integer. In this paper, we construct a finite family $\mathcal{M}_t$ of 3-uniform hypergraphs such that the Turán density of $\mathcal{M}_t$ is irrational, and there are $t$ near-extremal $\mathcal{M}_t$-free configurations that are far from each other in edit-distance. This is the first not stable example that has an irrational Turán density. It also provides a new phenomenon about feasible region functions.

Hypergraphs with a quarter uniform Turán density
The uniform Turán density $π_{1}(F)$ of a $3$-uniform hypergraph $F$ is the supremum over all $d$ for which there is an $F$-free hypergraph with the property that every linearly sized subhypergraph with density at least $d$. Determining $π_{1}(F)$ for given hypergraphs $F$ was suggested by Erdős and Sós in 1980s. In particular, they raised the questions of determining $π_{1}(K_4^{(3)-})$ and $π_{1}(K_4^{(3)})$. The former question was solved recently in [Israel J. Math. 211 (2016), 349-366] and [J. Eur. Math. Soc. 20 (2018), 1139-1159], while the latter is still a major open problem. In addition to $K_4^{(3)-}$, there are very few hypergraphs whose uniform Turán density has been determined. In this paper, we give a sufficient condition for $3$-uniform hypergraphs $F$ satisfying $π_{1}(F)=1/4$. In particular, currently all known $3$-uniform hypergraphs whose uniform Turán density is $1/4$, such as $K_4^{(3)-}$ and the $3$-uniform hypergraphs $F^{\star}_5$ studied in [arXiv:2211.12747], satisfy this condition. Moreover, we find some intriguing $3$-uniform hypergraphs whose uniform Turán density is also $1/4$.

The minimum positive uniform Turán density in uniformly dense $k$-uniform hypergraphs
A $k$-graph (or $k$-uniform hypergraph) $H$ is uniformly dense if the edge distribution of $H$ is uniformly dense with respect to every large collection of $k$-vertex cliques induced by sets of $(k-2)$-tuples. Reiher, Rödl and Schacht [Int. Math. Res. Not., 2018] proposed the study of the uniform Turán density $π_{k-2}(F)$ for given $k$-graphs $F$ in uniformly dense $k$-graphs. Meanwhile, they [J. London Math. Soc., 2018] characterized $k$-graphs $F$ satisfying $π_{k-2}(F)=0$ and showed that $π_{k-2}(\cdot)$ ``jumps" from 0 to at least $k^{-k}$. In particular, they asked whether there exist $3$-graphs $F$ with $π_{1}(F)$ equal or arbitrarily close to $1/27$. Recently, Garbe, Král' and Lamaison [arXiv:2105.09883] constructed some $3$-graphs with $π_{1}(F)=1/27$. In this paper, for any $k$-graph $F$, we give a lower bound of $π_{k-2}(F)$ based on a probabilistic framework, and provide a general theorem that reduces proving an upper bound on $π_{k-2}(F)$ to embedding $F$ in reduced $k$-graphs of the same density using the regularity method for $k$-graphs. By using this result and Ramsey theorem for multicolored hypergraphs, we extend the results of Garbe, Král' and Lamaison to $k\ge 3$. In other words, we give a sufficient condition for $k$-graphs $F$ satisfying $π_{k-2}(F)=k^{-k}$. Additionally, we also construct an infinite family of $k$-graphs with $π_{k-2}(F)=k^{-k}$.

Large $ Y_{3,2} $-tilings in 3-uniform hypergraphs
Let $Y_{3,2}$ be the 3-graph with two edges intersecting in two vertices. We prove that every 3-graph $ H $ on $ n $ vertices with at least $ \max \left \{ \binom{4αn}{3}, \binom{n}{3}-\binom{n-αn}{3} \right \}+o(n^3) $ edges contains a $Y_{3,2}$-tiling covering more than $ 4αn$ vertices, for sufficiently large $ n $ and $0<α< 1/4$. The bound on the number of edges is asymptotically best possible and solves a conjecture of the authors for 3-graphs that generalizes the Matching Conjecture of Erdős.
Spanning trees in graphs without large bipartite holes
We show that for any $\varepsilon>0$ and $Δ\in\mathbb{N}$, there exists $α>0$ such that for sufficiently large $n$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ satisfying that $δ(G)\geq\varepsilon n$ and $e(X, Y)>0$ for every pair of disjoint vertex sets $X, Y\subseteq V(G)$ of size $αn$ contains all spanning trees with maximum degree at most $Δ$. This strengthens a result of Böttcher et al.

Rainbow Hamilton cycle in hypergraph system
In this paper, we develop a new rainbow Hamilton framework, which is of independent interest, settling the problem proposed by Gupta, Hamann, Müyesser, Parczyk, and Sgueglia when $k=3$, and draw the general conclusion for any $k\geq3$ as follows. A $k$-graph system $\textbf{H}=\{H_i\}_{i\in[n]}$ is a family of not necessarily distinct $k$-graphs on the same $n$-vertex set $V$, moreover, a $k$-graph $H$ on $V$ is rainbow if $E(H)\subseteq \bigcup_{i\in[n]}E(H_i)$ and $|E(H)\cap E(H_i)|\leq1$ for $i\in[n]$. We show that given $γ> 0$, sufficiently large $n$ and an $n$-vertex $k$-graph system $\textbf{H}=\{H_i\}_{i\in[n]}$ , if $δ_{k-2}(H_i)\geq(5/9+γ)\binom{n}{2}$ for $i\in[n]$ where $k\geq3$, then there exists a rainbow tight Hamilton cycle. This result implies the conclusion in a single graph, which was proved by Lang and Sanhueza-Matamala [$J. Lond. Math. Soc., 2022$], Polcyn, Reiher, Rödl and Schülke [$J. Combin. Theory \ Ser. B, 2021$] independently.

$H$-factors in graphs with small independence number
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $H$ be an $h$-vertex graph. The vertex arboricity $ar(H)$ of $H$ is the least integer $r$ such that $V(H)$ can be partitioned into $r$ parts and each part induces a forest in $H$. We show that for sufficiently large $n\in h\mathbb{N}$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G)\geq \max\left\{\left(1-\frac{2}{f(H)}+o(1)\right)n, \left(\frac{1}{2}+o(1)\right)n\right\}$ and $α(G)=o(n)$ contains an $H$-factor, where $f(H)=2ar(H)$ or $2ar(H)-1$. The result can be viewed an analogue of the Alon--Yuster theorem \cite{MR1376050} in Ramsey--Turán theory, which generalises the results of Balogh--Molla--Sharifzadeh~\cite{MR3570984} and Knierm--Su~\cite{MR4193066} on clique factors. In particular the degree conditions are asymptotically sharp for infinitely many graphs $H$ which are not cliques.

Balanced subdivisions of cliques in graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph $H$, a balanced subdivision of $H$ is a graph obtained from $H$ by subdividing every edge the same number of times. In 1984, Thomassen conjectured that for each integer $k\ge 1$, high average degree is sufficient to guarantee a balanced subdivision of $K_k$. Recently, Liu and Montgomery resolved this conjecture. We give an optimal estimate up to an absolute constant factor by showing that there exists $c>0$ such that for sufficiently large $d$, every graph with average degree at least $d$ contains a balanced subdivision of a clique with at least $cd^{1/2}$ vertices. It also confirms a conjecture from Verstra{ë}te: every graph of average degree $cd^2$, for some absolute constant $c>0$, contains a pair of disjoint isomorphic subdivisions of the complete graph $K_d$. We also prove that there exists some absolute $c>0$ such that for sufficiently large $d$, every $C_4$-free graph with average degree at least $d$ contains a balanced subdivision of the complete graph $K_{cd}$, which extends a result of Balogh, Liu and Sharifzadeh.

Integer colorings with no rainbow $k$-term arithmetic progression
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics (2022) • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we study the rainbow Erdős-Rothschild problem with respect to $k$-term arithmetic progressions. For a set of positive integers $S \subseteq [n]$, an $r$-coloring of $S$ is \emph{rainbow $k$-AP-free} if it contains no rainbow $k$-term arithmetic progression. Let $g_{r,k}(S)$ denote the number of rainbow $k$-AP-free $r$-colorings of $S$. For sufficiently large $n$ and fixed integers $r\ge k\ge 3$, we show that $g_{r,k}(S)<g_{r,k}([n])$ for any proper subset $S\subset [n]$. Further, we prove that $\lim_{n\to \infty}g_{r,k}([n])/(k-1)^n= \binom{r}{k-1}$. Our result is asymptotically best possible and implies that, almost all rainbow $k$-AP-free $r$-colorings of $[n]$ use only $k-1$ colors.

Clique-factors in graphs with sublinear $\ell$-independence number
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a graph $G$ and an integer $\ell\ge 2$, we denote by $α_{\ell}(G)$ the maximum size of a $K_{\ell}$-free subset of vertices in $V(G)$. A recent question of Nenadov and Pehova asks for determining the best possible minimum degree conditions forcing clique-factors in $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with $α_{\ell}(G) = o(n)$, which can be seen as a Ramsey--Turán variant of the celebrated Hajnal--Szemerédi theorem. In this paper we find the asymptotical sharp minimum degree threshold for $K_r$-factors in $n$-vertex graphs $G$ with $α_\ell(G)=n^{1-o(1)}$ for all $r\ge \ell\ge 2$.
Tiling multipartite hypergraphs in Quasi-random Hypergraphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given $k\ge 2$ and two $k$-graphs ($k$-uniform hypergraphs) $F$ and $H$, an \emph{$F$-factor} in $H$ is a set of vertex disjoint copies of $F$ that together covers the vertex set of $H$. Lenz and Mubayi studied the $F$-factor problems in quasi-random $k$-graphs with minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$. In particular, they constructed a sequence of $1/8$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs $H(n)$ with minimum degree $Ω(n^2)$ and minimum codegree $Ω(n)$ but with no $K_{2,2,2}$-factor. We prove that if $p>1/8$ and $F$ is a $3$-partite $3$-graph with $f$ vertices, then for sufficiently large $n$, all $p$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs of order $n$ with minimum codegree $Ω(n)$ and $f\mid n$ have $F$-factors. That is, $1/8$ is the density threshold for ensuring all $3$-partite $3$-graphs $F$-factors in quasi-random $3$-graphs given a minimum codegree condition $Ω(n)$. Moreover, we show that one can not replace the minimum codegree condition by a minimum vertex degree condition. In fact, we find that for any $p\in(0,1)$ and $n\ge n_0$, there exist $p$-dense quasi-random $3$-graphs of order $n$ with minimum degree $Ω(n^2)$ having no $K_{2,2,2}$-factor. In particular, we study the optimal density threshold of $F$-factors for each $3$-partite $3$-graph $F$ in quasi-random $3$-graphs given a minimum codegree condition $Ω(n)$.
Embedding clique-factors in graphs with low $\ell$-independence number

The following question was proposed by Nenadov and Pehova and reiterated by Knierim and Su: Given integers $\ell,r$ and $n$ with $n\in r\mathbb{N}$, is it true that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G) \ge \max \{ \frac{1}{2},\frac{r - \ell}{r} \}n + o(n)$ and $α_{\ell}(G) = o(n) $ contains a $K_{r}$-factor? We give a negative answer for the case when $\ell\ge \frac{3r}{4}$ by giving a family of constructions using the so-called cover thresholds and show that the minimum degree condition given by our construction is asymptotically best possible. That is, for all integers $r,\ell$ with $r > \ell \ge \frac{3}{4}r$ and $μ>0$, there exist $α> 0$ and $N$ such that for every $n\in r\mathbb{N}$ with $n>N$, every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with $δ(G) \ge \left( \frac{1}{2-\varrho_{\ell}(r-1)} + μ\right)n $ and $α_{\ell}(G) \le αn$ contains a $K_{r}$-factor. Here $\varrho_{\ell}(r-1)$ is the Ramsey--Turán density for $K_{r-1}$ under the $\ell$-independence number condition.
