On Generic Linearly Constrained Frameworks
A linearly constrained framework in $\mathbb{R}^d$ is a bar-joint framework where, in addition, vertices with loops are constrained to lie in given affine subspaces. In the generic case, when each vertex is incident to sufficiently many loops, a characterisation of rigidity was obtained by Jackson, Nixon and Tanigawa for all $d\geq 3$. By extending this to characterise the rank function of the linearly constrained rigidity matroid (under the same loop hypothesis), sufficient conditions for a looped simple graph to be (globally) rigid in $\mathbb{R}^d$ are obtained. In the 2-dimensional case generic rigidity was characterised by Streinu and Theran, and we obtain a sharper sufficient condition in this case. A key technique is the application of the discharging method.

A sufficient condition for planar graphs with maximum degree eight to be totally 9-colorable
A total coloring of a graph $G$ is a coloring of the vertices and edges such that two adjacent or incident elements receive different colors. The minimum number of colors required for a total coloring of a graph $G$ is called the total chromatic number, denoted by $χ''(G)$. Let $G$ be a planar graph of maximum degree eight. It is known that $9\leq χ''(G) \leq 10$. We here prove that $χ''(G)=9$ when the graph does not contain any subgraph isomorphic to a $4$-fan.
Chordal bipartite graphs, biclique vertex partitions and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of $1$-subdivision graphs
A biclique in a graph $G$ is a complete bipartite subgraph (not necessarily induced), and the least positive integer $k$ for which the vertex set of $G$ can be partitioned into at most $k$ bicliques is the biclique vertex partition number $bp(G)$ of $G$. We prove that the inequality $reg(S(G))\geq |G|-bp(G)$ holds for every graph $G$, where $S(G)$ is the $1$-subdivision graph of $G$ and $reg(S(G))$ denotes the (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity of the graph $S(G)$. In particular, we show that the equality $reg(S(B))=|B|-bp(B)$ holds provided that $B$ is a chordal bipartite graph. Furthermore, for every chordal bipartite graph $B$, we prove that the independence complex of $S(B)$ is either contractible or homotopy equivalent to a sphere, and provide a polynomial time checkable criteria for when it is contractible, and describe the dimension of the sphere when it is not.

A 2-distance $(2Δ+7)$-coloring of planar graphs
A vertex coloring of a graph $G$ is called a $2$-distance coloring if any two vertices at a distance at most $2$ from each other receive different colors. Recently, Bousquet et al. (Discrete Mathematics, 346(4), 113288, 2023) proved that $2Δ+7$ colors are sufficient for the $2$-distance coloring of planar graphs with maximum degree $Δ\geq 9$. In this paper, we strengthen their result by removing the maximum degree constraint and show that all planar graphs admit a 2-distance $(2Δ+7)$-coloring. This particularly improves the result of Van den Heuvel and McGuinness (Journal of Graph Theory, 42(2), 110-124, 2003).

On 2-Distance ($Δ+4$)-coloring of planar graphs with girth at least five
A vertex coloring of a graph $G$ is called a 2-distance coloring if any two vertices at distance at most $2$ from each other receive different colors. Let $G$ be a planar graph with girth at least $5$. We prove that $G$ admits a $2$-distance coloring with $Δ+4$ colors if $Δ\geq 22$.

A vertex coloring of a graph G is called a 2-distance coloring if any two vertices at a distance at most 2 from each other receive different colors. Suppose that G is a planar graph with a maximum degree at most 5. We prove that G admits a 2-distance 16 coloring, which improves the result given by Hou et al. (Graphs and Combinatorics 39:20, 2023).

A vertex coloring of a graph $G$ is called a 2-distance coloring if any two vertices at a distance at most $2$ from each other receive different colors. Suppose that $G$ is a planar graph with girth $5$ and maximum degree $Δ$. We prove that $G$ admits a $2$-distance $Δ+7$ coloring, which improves the result of Dong and Lin (J. Comb. Optim. 32(2), 645-655, 2016). Moreover, we prove that $G$ admits a $2$-distance $Δ+6$ coloring when $Δ\geq 10$.

An improved bound for 2-distance coloring of planar graphs with girth six
Published in Discrete Applied Mathematics, 361, 121-135, 2025 • View PublicationBIB
A vertex coloring of a graph $G$ is said to be a 2-distance coloring if any two vertices at distance at most $2$ from each other receive different colors, and the least number of colors for which $G$ admits a $2$-distance coloring is known as the $2$-distance chromatic number $χ_2(G)$ of $G$. When $G$ is a planar graph with girth at least $6$ and maximum degree $Δ\geq 6$, we prove that $χ_2(G)\leq Δ+4$. This improves the best-known bound for 2-distance coloring of planar graphs with girth six.

Critical Equimatchable Graphs
A graph G is equimatchable if every maximal matching of G has the same cardinality. In this paper, we investigate equimatchable graphs such that the removal of any edge harms the equimatchability, called edge-critical equimatchable graphs (ECE-graphs). We show that apart from two simple cases, namely bipartite ECE-graphs and even cliques, all ECE-graphs are 2-connected factor-critical. Accordingly, we give a characterization of factor-critical ECE-graphs with connectivity 2. Our result provides a partial answer to an open question posed by Levit and Mandrescu on the characterization of well-covered graphs with no shedding vertex. We also introduce equimatchable graphs such that the removal of any vertex harms the equimatchability, called vertex-critical equimatchable graphs (VCE-graphs). To conclude, we enlighten the relationship between various subclasses of equimatchable graphs (including ECE-graphs and VCE-graphs) and discuss the properties of factor-critical ECE-graphs with connectivity at least 3.

Sectionable Tournaments: Their topology and Coloring
Published • View PublicationBIB
We provide a detailed study of topological and combinatorial properties of sectionable tournaments. This class forms an inductively constructed family of tournaments grounded over simply disconnected tournaments, those tournaments whose fundamental groups of acyclic complexes are non-trivial. When $T$ is a sectionable tournament, we fully describe the cell-structure of its acyclic complex $Acy(T)$ by using the adapted machinery of discrete Morse theory for acyclic complexes of tournaments. In the combinatorial side, we demonstrate that the dimension of the complex $Acy(T)$ has a role to play. We prove that if $T$ is a $(2r+1)$-sectionable tournament and $d$ is the dimension of $Acy(T)$, then the (acyclic) chromatic number of $T$ satisfies $χ(T)\leq 2 \left( 2-1/(r+1) \right)^{\log(d+1)}-1$ where the logarithm has two as its base.

Order-sensitive domination in partially ordered sets
Published in Order, Vol:40, 2023, 157-172 • View PublicationBIB
For a (finite) partially ordered set (poset) $P$, we call a dominating set $D$ in the comparability graph of $P$, an order-sensitive dominating set in $P$ if either $x\in D$ or else $a<x<b$ in $P$ for some $a,b\in D$ for every element $x$ in $P$ which is neither maximal nor minimal, and denote by $γ_{os}(P)$, the least size of an order-sensitive dominating set of $P$. For every graph $G$ and integer $k\geq 2$, we associate a graded poset $\mathscr{P}_k(G)$ of height $k$, and prove that $γ_{os}(\mathscr{P}_3(G))=γ_{\text{R}}(G)$ and $γ_{os}(\mathscr{P}_4(G))=2γ(G)$ hold, where $γ(G)$ and $γ_{\text{R}}(G)$ are the domination and Roman domination number of $G$, respectively. Apart from these, we introduce the notion of a Helly poset, and prove that when $P$ is a Helly poset, the computation of order-sensitive domination number of $P$ can be interpreted as a weighted clique partition number of a graph, the middle graph of $P$. Moreover, we show that the order-sensitive domination number of a poset $P$ exactly corresponds to the biclique vertex-partition number of the associated bipartite transformation of $P$. Finally, we prove that the decision problem of order-sensitive domination on posets of arbitrary height is NP-complete, which is obtained by using a reduction from EQUAL-$3$-SAT problem.

On graphs admitting two disjoint maximum independent sets
Published • View PublicationBIB
An independent set A is maximal if it is not a proper subset of an independent set, while A is maximum if it has a maximum size. The problem of whether a graph has a pair of disjoint maximal independent sets was introduced by C. Berge in early 70's. The class of graphs for which every induced subgraph admits two disjoint maximal independent sets was characterized in (Shaudt, 2015). It is known that deciding whether a graph has two disjoint maximal independent sets is a NP-complete problem (Henning et al., 2009). In this paper, we are focused on finding conditions ensuring the existence of two disjoint maximum independent sets.
On two extensions of equimatchable graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph is said to be equimatchable if all its maximal matchings are of the same size. In this work we introduce two extensions of the property of equimatchability by defining two new graph parameters that measure how far a graph is from being equimatchable. The first one, called the matching gap, measures the difference between the sizes of a maximum matching and a minimum maximal matching. The second extension is obtained by introducing the concept of equimatchable sets; a set of vertices in a graph $G$ is said to be equimatchable if all maximal matchings of $G$ saturating the set are of the same size. Noting that $G$ is equimatchable if and only if the empty set is equimatchable, we study the equimatchability defect of the graph, defined as the minimum size of an equimatchable set in it. We develop several inapproximability and parameterized complexity results and algorithms regarding the computation of these two parameters, a characterization of graphs of unit matching gap, exact values of the equimatchability defect of cycles, and sharp bounds for both parameters.
