Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- I. A Kuratowski-type characterisation
We characterise the embeddability of simply connected locally 3-connected 2-dimensional simplicial complexes in 3-space in a way analogous to Kuratowski's characterisation of graph planarity, by excluded minors. This answers questions of Lovász, Pardon and Wagner.
Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- II. Rotation systems
We prove that 2-dimensional simplicial complexes whose first homology group is trivial have topological embeddings in 3-space if and only if there are embeddings of their link graphs in the plane that are compatible at the edges and they are simply connected.
Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- III. Constraint minors
We characterise the following property by six obstructions: given a graphic matroid $M$ and a set $X$ of its elements, when is $M$ the cycle matroid of a graph $G$ such that $X$ is a connected edge set in $G$?
Embedding simply connected 2-complexes in 3-space -- V. A refined Kuratowski-type characterisation
This paper is the last paper in a series of five papers. Building on earlier papers in this series, we prove an analogue of Kuratowski's characterisation of graph planarity for three dimensions.
More precisely, a simply connected 2-dimensional simplicial complex embeds in 3-space if and only if it has no obstruction from an explicit list of obstructions. This list of obstructions is finite except for one infinite family.

We present the first combinatorial scheme for counting labelled 4-regular planar graphs through a complete recursive decomposition. More precisely, we show that the exponential generating function of labelled 4-regular planar graphs can be computed effectively as the solution of a system of equations, from which the coefficients can be extracted. As a byproduct, we also enumerate labelled 3-connected 4-regular planar graphs, and simple 4-regular rooted maps.

Erdős and Moser raised the question of determining the maximum number of maximal cliques or equivalently, the maximum number of maximal independent sets in a graph on $n$ vertices. Since then there has been a lot of research along these lines.
A $k$-dominating independent set is an independent set $D$ such that every vertex not contained in $D$ has at least $k$ neighbours in $D$. Let $mi_k(n)$ denote the maximum number of $k$-dominating independent sets in a graph on $n$ vertices, and let $ζ_k:=\lim_{n \rightarrow \infty} \sqrt[n]{mi_k(n)}$. Nagy initiated the study of $mi_k(n)$.
In this article we disprove a conjecture of Nagy and prove that for any even $k$ we have $$1.489 \approx \sqrt[9]{36} \le ζ^k_k.$$
We also prove that for any $k \ge 3$ we have $$ζ_k^{k} \le 2.053^{\frac{1}{1.053+1/k}}< 1.98,$$ improving the upper bound of Nagy.

A graph is said to be edge-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on its edges. It is known that edge-transitive graphs are either vertex-transitive or bipartite. In this paper we present a complete classification of all connected edge-transitive graphs on less than or equal to $20$ vertices. We then present a construction for an infinite family of edge-transitive bipartite graphs, and use this construction to show that there exists a non-trivial bipartite subgraph of $K_{m,n}$ that is connected and edge-transitive whenever $gcd(m,n)>2$. Additionally, we investigate necessary and sufficient conditions for edge transitivity of connected $(r,2)$ biregular subgraphs of $K_{m,n}$, as well as for uniqueness, and use these results to address the case of $gcd(m,n)=2$. We then present infinite families of edge-transitive graphs among vertex-transitive graphs, including several classes of circulant graphs. In particular, we present necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for edge-transitivity of certain circulant graphs.
Uniform Edge Betweenness Centrality

The edge betweenness centrality of an edge is loosely defined as the fraction of shortest paths between all pairs of vertices passing through that edge. In this paper, we investigate graphs where the edge betweenness centrality of edges is uniform. It is clear that if a graph G is edge-transitive (its automorphism group acts transitively on its edges) then G has uniform edge betweenness centrality. However this sufficient condition is not necessary. Graphs that are not edge-transitive but have uniform edge betweenness centrality appear to be very rare. Of the over 11.9 million connected graphs on up to ten vertices, there are only four graphs that are not edge-transitive but have uniform edge betweenness centrality. Despite this rarity among small graphs, we present methods for creating infinite classes of graphs with this unusual combination of properties.
Homotopy type of the independence complexes of a family of regular bipartite graphs
In this article, we define a family of regular bipartite graphs and show that the homotopy type of the independence complexes of this family is the wedge sum of spheres of certain dimensions.

In this article, we consider the bipartite graphs $K_2 \times K_n$. We first show that the connectedness of $\mathcal{N}(K_{n+1}^{K_n}) =0$.
Further, we show that $\text{Hom}(K_2 \times K_{n}, K_{m})$ is homotopic to $S^{m-2}$, if $2\leq m <n$.
Long cycles in Hamiltonian graphs
We prove that if an $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree at least $3$ contains a Hamiltonian cycle, then it contains another cycle of length $n-o(n)$; this implies, in particular, that a well-known conjecture of Sheehan from 1975 holds asymptotically. Our methods, which combine constructive, poset-based techniques and non-constructive, parity-based arguments, may be of independent interest.

A branch vertex in a tree is a vertex of degree at least three. We prove that, for all $s\geq 1$, every connected graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $(\frac{1}{s+3}+o(1))n$ contains a spanning tree having at most $s$ branch vertices. Asymptotically, this is best possible and solves, in less general form, a problem of Flandrin, Kaiser, Kuuzel, Li and Ryjáucek, which was originally motivated by an optimization problem in the design of optical networks.
Pseudo-edge unfoldings of convex polyhedra

A pseudo-edge graph of a convex polyhedron K is a 3-connected embedded graph in K whose vertices coincide with those of K, whose edges are distance minimizing geodesics, and whose faces are convex. We construct a convex polyhedron K in Euclidean 3-space with a pseudo-edge graph with respect to which K is not unfoldable. The proof is based on a result of Pogorelov on convex caps with prescribed curvature, and an unfoldability obstruction for almost flat convex caps due to Tarasov. Our example, which has 340 vertices, significantly simplifies an earlier construction by Tarasov, and confirms that Durer's conjecture does not hold for pseudo-edge unfoldings.
A counterexample to a conjecture on facial unique-maximal colorings

A facial unique-maximum coloring of a plane graph is a proper vertex coloring by natural numbers where on each face $α$ the maximal color appears exactly once on the vertices of $α$. Fabrici and Göring proved that six colors are enough for any plane graph and conjectured that four colors suffice. This conjecture is a strengthening of the Four Color theorem. Wendland later decreased the upper bound from six to five. In this note, we disprove the conjecture by giving an infinite family of counterexamples. Thus we conclude that facial unique-maximum chromatic number of the sphere is five.
Ramsey equivalence of $K_n$ and $K_n+K_{n-1}$ for multiple colours
In 2015 Bloom and Liebenau proved that $K_n$ and $K_n+K_{n-1}$ possess the same $2$-Ramsey graphs for all $n\geq 3$ (with a single exception for $n=3$). In the following we give a simple proof that $K_n$ and $K_n+K_{n-1}$ possess the same $r$-Ramsey graphs for all $n, r\geq 3$.
Fractional matching preclusion number of graphs

Let $G$ be a graph with an even number of vertices. The matching preclusion number of $G$, denoted by $mp(G)$, is the minimum number of edges whose deletion leaves the resulting graph without a perfect matching. We introduced a $0$-$1$ linear programming which can be used to find matching preclusion number of graphs. In this paper, by relaxing of the $0$-$1$ linear programming we obtain a linear programming and call its optimal objective value as fractional matching preclusion number of graph $G$, denoted by $mp_f(G)$. We show $mp_f(G)$ can be computed in polynomial time for any graph $G$. By using perfect matching polytope, we transform it as a new linear programming whose optimal value equals the reciprocal of $mp_f(G)$. For bipartite graph $G$, we obtain an explicit formula for $mp_f(G)$ and show that $\lfloor mp_f(G) \rfloor$ is the maximum integer $k$ such that $G$ has a $k$-factor. Moreover, for any two bipartite graphs $G$ and $H$, we show $mp_f(G \square H) \geqslant mp_f(G)+\lfloor mp_f(H) \rfloor$, where $G \square H$ is the Cartesian product of $G$ and $H$.

The Graovac-Pisanski index, also called the modified Wiener index, was introduced in 1991 and represents an extension of the original Wiener index, because it considers beside the distances in a graph also its symmetries. Similarly as Wiener in 1947 showed the correlation of the Wiener indices of the alkane series with the boiling points, in 2018 the connection between the Graovac-Pisanski index and the melting points of some hydrocarbon molecules was established. In this paper, we prove that the Graovac-Pisanski index of any connected bipartite graph as well as of any connected graph on an even number of vertices is an integer number. These results are applied to some important families of hydrocarbon molecules. By using a computer programme, the graphs with a non-integer Graovac-Pisanski index on at most nine vertices are counted. Finally, an infinite class of unicyclic graphs with a non-integer Graovac-Pisanski index is described.

A Clar set of a benzenoid graph $B$ is a maximum set of independent alternating hexagons over all perfect matchings of $B$. The Clar number of $B$, denoted by ${\rm Cl}(B)$, is the number of hexagons in a Clar set for $B$. In this paper, we first prove some results on the independence number of subcubic trees to study the Clar number of catacondensed benzenoid graphs. As the main result of the paper we prove an upper bound for the Clar number of catacondensed benzenoid graphs and characterize the graphs that attain this bound. More precisely, it is shown that for a catacondensed benzenoid graph $B$ with $n$ hexagons ${\rm Cl}(B) \leq [(2n+1)/3]$.

Generation and properties of nut graphs
A nut graph is a graph on at least 2 vertices whose adjacency matrix has nullity 1 and for which non-trivial kernel vectors do not contain a zero. Chemical graphs are connected, with maximum degree at most three. We present a new algorithm for the exhaustive generation of non-isomorphic nut graphs. Using this algorithm, we determined all nut graphs up to 13 vertices and all chemical nut graphs up to 22 vertices. Furthermore, we determined all nut graphs among the cubic polyhedra up to 34 vertices and all nut fullerenes up to 250 vertices.
Nut graphs are of interest in chemistry of conjugated systems, in models of electronic structure, radical reactivity and molecular conduction. The relevant mathematical properties of chemical nut graphs are the position of the zero eigenvalue in the graph spectrum, and the dispersion in magnitudes of kernel eigenvector entries ($r$: the ratio of maximum to minimum magnitude of entries). Statistics are gathered on these properties for all the nut graphs generated here. We also show that all chemical nut graphs have $r \ge 2$ and that there is at least one chemical nut graph with $r = 2$ for every order $n \ge 9$ (with the exception of $n = 10$).
