The semi-discrete convolution with the Box Spline is an important tool in approximation theory. We give a formula for the difference between semi-discrete convolution and convolution with the Box Spline. This formula involves multiple Bernoulli polynomials.
Number of Compositions and Convolved Fibonacci numbers
We consider two type of upper Hessenberg matrices which determinants are Fibonacci numbers. Calculating sums of principal minors of the fixed order of the first type leads us to convolved Fibonacci numbers. Some identities for these and for Fibonacci numbers are proved.
We also show that numbers of compositions of a natural number with fixed number of ones appear as coefficients of characteristic polynomial of a Hessenberg matrix which determinant is a Fibonacci number. We derive the explicit formula for the number of such compositions, in terms of convolutions of Fibonacci numbers.

We give explicit formulae of Whittaker vectors for Virasoro algebra in terms of the Jack symmetric polynomials. Our fundamental tools are the Feigin-Fuchs bosonization and the split expression of the Calogero-Sutherland model given by Awata-Matsuo-Odake-Shiraishi.

Generalizing a result of Yoshinaga in dimension 3, we show that a central hyperplane arrangement in 4-space is free exactly if its restriction with multiplicities to a fixed hyperplane of the arrangement is free and its reduced characteristic polynomial equals the characteristic polynomial of this restriction. We show that the same statement holds true in any dimension when imposing certain tameness hypotheses.

We study partition functions and thermodynamic limits for the Ising model on three families of finite graphs converging to infinite self-similar graphs. They are provided by three well-known groups realized as automorphism groups of regular rooted trees: the first Grigorchuk's group of intermediate growth; the iterated monodromy group of the complex polynomial $z^2-1$ known as the Basilica group; and the Hanoi Towers group $H^{(3)}$ closely related to the Sierpinsky gasket.
Cumulants and convolutions via Abel polynomials

We provide an unifying polynomial expression giving moments in terms of cumulants, and viceversa, holding in the classical, boolean and free setting. This is done by using a symbolic treatment of Abel polynomials. As a by-product, we show that in the free cumulant theory the volume polynomial of Pitman and Stanley plays the role of the complete Bell exponential polynomial in the classical theory. Moreover via generalized Abel polynomials we construct a new class of cumulants, including the classical, boolean and free ones, and the convolutions linearized by them. Finally, via an umbral Fourier transform, we state a explicit connection between boolean and free convolution.

We apply the Dunkl-Opdam operators and generalized Jack polynomials to study category O for the rational Cherednik algebra of type G(r,1,n). We determine the set of aspherical values, and answer a question of Iain Gordon on the ordering of category O.
Regularity partitions and the topology of graphons
We highlight a topological aspect of the graph limit theory. Graphons are limit objects for convergent sequences of dense graphs. We introduce the representation of a graphon on a unique metric space and we relate the dimension of this metric space to the size of regularity partitions. We prove that if a graphon has an excluded induced sub-bigraph then the underlying metric space is compact and has finite packing dimension. It implies in particular that such graphons have regularity partitions of polynomial size.
The solution of the $A_r$ T-system for arbitrary boundary

We present an explicit solution of the $A_r$ $T$-system for arbitrary boundary conditions. For each boundary, this is done by constructing a network, i.e. a graph with positively weighted edges, and the solution is expressed as the partition function for a family of non-intersecting paths on the network. This proves in particular the positive Laurent property, namely that the solutions are all Laurent polynomials of the initial data with non-negative integer coefficients.

Many hard combinatorial problems can be modeled by a system of polynomial equations. N. Alon coined the term polynomial method to describe the use of nonlinear polynomials when solving combinatorial problems. We continue the exploration of the polynomial method and show how the algorithmic theory of polynomial ideals can be used to detect k-colorability, unique Hamiltonicity, and automorphism rigidity of graphs. Our techniques are diverse and involve Nullstellensatz certificates, linear algebra over finite fields, Groebner bases, toric algebra, convex programming, and real algebraic geometry.
On some polynomials enumerating Fully Packed Loop configurations

We are interested in the enumeration of Fully Packed Loop configurations on a grid with a given noncrossing matching. By the recently proved Razumov--Stroganov conjecture, these quantities also appear as groundstate components in the Completely Packed Loop model. When considering matchings with p nested arches, these numbers are known to be polynomials in p. In this article, we present several conjectures about these polynomials: in particular, we describe all real roots, certain values of these polynomials, and conjecture that the coefficients are positive. The conjectures, which are of a combinatorial nature, are supported by strong numerical evidence and the proofs of several special cases. We also give a version of the conjectures when an extra parameter tau is added to the equations defining the groundstate of the Completely Packed Loop model.
Deciding the finiteness of the number of simple permutations contained in a wreath-closed class is polynomial

We present an algorithm running in time O(n ln n) which decides if a wreath-closed permutation class Av(B) given by its finite basis B contains a finite number of simple permutations. The method we use is based on an article of Brignall, Ruskuc and Vatter which presents a decision procedure (of high complexity) for solving this question, without the assumption that Av(B) is wreath-closed. Using combinatorial, algorithmic and language theoretic arguments together with one of our previous results on pin-permutations, we are able to transform the problem into a co-finiteness problem in a complete deterministic automaton.
Generalized Ehrhart polynomials

Let $P$ be a polytope with rational vertices. A classical theorem of Ehrhart states that the number of lattice points in the dilations $P(n) = nP$ is a quasi-polynomial in $n$. We generalize this theorem by allowing the vertices of P(n) to be arbitrary rational functions in $n$. In this case we prove that the number of lattice points in P(n) is a quasi-polynomial for $n$ sufficiently large. Our work was motivated by a conjecture of Ehrhart on the number of solutions to parametrized linear Diophantine equations whose coefficients are polynomials in $n$, and we explain how these two problems are related.

We study, using transfer-matrix methods, the partition-function zeros of the square-lattice q-state Potts antiferromagnet at zero temperature (= square-lattice chromatic polynomial) for the special boundary conditions that are obtained from an m x n grid with free boundary conditions by adjoining one new vertex adjacent to all the sites in the leftmost column and a second new vertex adjacent to all the sites in the rightmost column. We provide numerical evidence that the partition-function zeros are becoming dense everywhere in the complex q-plane outside the limiting curve B_\infty(sq) for this model with ordinary (e.g. free or cylindrical) boundary conditions. Despite this, the infinite-volume free energy is perfectly analytic in this region.

We construct the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) on the homogeneous space (Cartan domain) D_4=SO(4,2)/(SO(4)\times SO(2)) of the conformal group SO(4,2) (locally isomorphic to SU(2,2)) in 1+3 dimensions. The manifold D_4 can be mapped one-to-one onto the future tube domain C^4_+ of the complex Minkowski space through a Cayley transformation, where other kind of (electromagnetic) wavelets have already been proposed in the literature. We study the unitary irreducible representations of the conformal group on the Hilbert spaces L^2_h(D_4,dν_λ) and L^2_h(C^4_+,d\tildeν_λ) of square integrable holomorphic functions with scale dimension λand continuous mass spectrum, prove the isomorphism (equivariance) between both Hilbert spaces, admissibility and tight-frame conditions, provide reconstruction formulas and orthonormal basis of homogeneous polynomials and discuss symmetry properties and the Euclidean limit of the proposed conformal wavelets. For that purpose, we firstly state and prove a λ-extension of Schwinger's Master Theorem (SMT), which turns out to be a useful mathematical tool for us, particularly as a generating function for the unitary-representation functions of the conformal group and for the derivation of the reproducing (Bergman) kernel of L^2_h(D_4,dν_λ). SMT is related to MacMahon's Master Theorem (MMT) and an extension of both in terms of Louck's SU(N) solid harmonics is also provided for completeness. Convergence conditions are also studied.

We provide an explicit formula for the toric $h$-contribution of each cubical shelling component, and a new combinatorial model to prove Clara Chan's result on the non-negativity of these contributions. Our model allows for a variant of the Gessel-Shapiro result on the $g$-polynomial of the cubical lattice, this variant may be shown by simple inclusion-exclusion. We establish an isomorphism between our model and Chan's model and provide a reinterpretation in terms of noncrossing partitions. By discovering another variant of the Gessel-Shapiro result in the work of Denise and Simion, we find evidence that the toric $h$-polynomials of cubes are related to the Morgan-Voyce polynomials via Viennot's combinatorial theory of orthogonal polynomials.
Spanning trees of 3-uniform hypergraphs

Masbaum and Vaintrob's "Pfaffian matrix tree theorem" implies that counting spanning trees of a 3-uniform hypergraph (abbreviated to 3-graph) can be done in polynomial time for a class of "3-Pfaffian" 3-graphs, comparable to and related to the class of Pfaffian graphs. We prove a complexity result for recognizing a 3-Pfaffian 3-graph and describe two large classes of 3-Pfaffian 3-graphs -- one of these is given by a forbidden subgraph characterization analogous to Little's for bipartite Pfaffian graphs, and the other consists of a class of partial Steiner triple systems for which the property of being 3-Pfaffian can be reduced to the property of an associated graph being Pfaffian. We exhibit an infinite set of partial Steiner triple systems that are not 3-Pfaffian, none of which can be reduced to any other by deletion or contraction of triples.
We also find some necessary or sufficient conditions for the existence of a spanning tree of a 3-graph (much more succinct than can be obtained by the currently fastest polynomial-time algorithm of Gabow and Stallmann for finding a spanning tree) and a superexponential lower bound on the number of spanning trees of a Steiner triple system.

C.H. Yang discovered a polynomial version of the classical Lagrange identity expressing the product of two sums of four squares as another sum of four squares. He used it to give short proofs of some important theorems on composition of delta-codes (now known as T-sequences). We investigate the possible new versions of his polynomial Lagrange identity. Our main result shows that all such identities are equivalent to each other.

In \cite{D1}, Dickson listed all permutation polynomials up to degree 5 over an arbitrary finite field, and all permutation polynomials of degree 6 over finite fields of odd characteristic. The classification of degree 6 permutation polynomials over finite fields of characteristic 2 was left incomplete. In this paper we complete the classification of permutation polynomials of degree 6 over finite fields of characteristic 2. In addition, all permutation polynomials of degree 7 over finite fields of characteristic 2 are classified.
Kernel function and quantum algebras
We introduce an analogue $K_n(x,z;q,t)$ of the Cauchy-type kernel function for the Macdonald polynomials, being constructed in the tensor product of the ring of symmetric functions and the commutative algebra $\mathcal{A}$ over the degenerate $\mathbb{C} \mathbb{P}^1$. We show that a certain restriction of $K_n(x,z;q,t)$ with respect to the variable $z$ is neatly described by the tableau sum formula of Macdonald polynomials. Next, we demonstrate that the integer level representation of the Ding-Iohara quantum algebra naturally produces the currents of the deformed $\mathcal{W}$ algebra. Then we remark that the $K_n(x,z;q,t)$ emerges in the highest-to-highest correlation function of the deformed $\mathcal{W}$ algebra.
