Scaling limits of multitype Bienaymé trees
We consider critical multitype Bienaymé trees that are either irreducible or possess a critical irreducible component with attached subcritical components. These trees are studied under two distinct conditioning frameworks: first, conditioning on the value of a linear combination of the numbers of vertices of given types; and second, conditioning on the precise number of vertices belonging to a selected subset of types. We prove that, under a finite exponential moment condition, the scaling limit as the tree size tends to infinity is given by the Brownian Continuum Random Tree. Additionally, we establish strong non-asymptotic tail bounds for the height of such trees. Our main tools include a flattening operation applied to multitype trees and sharp estimates regarding the structure of monotype trees with a given sequence of degrees.
Perfect Graph Modification Problems: An Integer Programming Approach
Graph modification problems, which aim to find a small set of modifications to a graph so that it satisfies a desired property, have been studied for several special graph classes. The literature is rather rich in NP-completeness results and polynomial time solvable cases. However, to the best of our knowledge, only a few exact algorithms have been suggested to address NP-hard cases. In this work, we propose exact solution methods based on integer programming for three perfect graph modification problems: minimum perfect editing, minimum perfect completion and the perfect sandwich problem. The minimum perfect editing problem inquires the smallest number of edge additions and deletions to make a graph perfect, while the completion problem allows only edge additions. In the perfect sandwich problem, only a given subset of non-edges can be changed to edges, and the problem asks whether a perfect graph can be obtained in this way. The proposed methods are based on the Strong Perfect Graph Theorem. We represent odd holes and odd antiholes as linear inequalities, and formulate an integer programming model to solve minimum perfect editing problem. To address the exponential number of constraints, we propose a cutting plane algorithm which relies on finding odd holes and odd antiholes. To enhance the practical efficiency of the cutting plane algorithm, we address the expected number of odd holes and odd antiholes in random graphs. In addition, we propose a heuristic algorithm to make a given graph perfect, which is used to obtain improved upper bounds for the editing and the completion problems. Finally, we demonstrate empirical effectiveness of the proposed methods through computational experiments.

Limits of biconditioned Bienayme-Galton-Watson trees
We study the limiting behavior of a Bienayme-Galton-Watson tree conditioned to have a large number of vertices and either a fixed number of leaves or a fixed number of internal nodes. The first biconditioning gives a universal result with respect to the offspring distribution. In contrast, the second case leads to a variety of limiting behaviors, ranging from condensation phenomena to more elongated tree structures, depending on the properties of the offspring distribution. To prove these results, we use tools from conditioned random walk theory and from analytic combinatorics.

Potential Theory and the Boundary of Combinatorial Graphs
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a finite, connected graph. We investigate a notion of boundary $\partial G \subseteq V$ and argue that it is well behaved from the point of view of potential theory. This is done by proving a number of discrete analogous of classical results for compact domains $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$. These include (1) an analogue of Pólya's result that a random walk in $Ω$ typically hits the boundary $\partial Ω$ within $\lesssim \mbox{diam}(Ω)^2$ units of time, (2) an analogue of the Faber-Krahn inequality, (3) an analogue of the Hardy inequality, (4) an analogue of the Alexandrov-Bakelman-Pucci estimate, (5) a stability estimate for hot spots and (6) a Theorem of Björck stating that probability measures $μ$ that maximize $\int_{Ω\times Ω} \|x-y\|^α dμ(x) dμ(y)$ are fully supported in the boundary.

Derangements in finite classical groups and characteristic polynomials of random matrices
We first obtain explicit upper bounds for the proportion of elements in a finite classical group G with a given characteristic polynomial. We use this to complete the proof that the proportion of elements of a finite classical group G which lie in a proper irreducible subgroup tends to 0 as the dimension of the natural module goes to infinity. This result is analogous to the result of Luczak and Pyber [15] that the proportion of elements of the symmetric group S_n which are contained in a proper transitive subgroup other than the alternating group goes to 0 as n goes to infinity. We also show that the probability that 3 random elements of SL(n,q) invariably generate goes to 0 as n goes to infinity.

Second order free cumulants: product, commutator, and anti-commutator
Given two second order free random variables $a$ and $b$, we study the second order free cumulants of their product $ab$, their commutator $ab-ba$, and their anti-commutator $ab+ba$. Let $(κ_n^a)_{n\geq 1}$ and $(κ_{n,m}^a)_{n,m\geq 1}$ denote the sequence of free cumulants of first and second order, respectively, of a random variable $a$ in a second order non-commutative probability space $(\mathcal{A},\varphi,\varphi^2)$. Given $a$ and $b$ two second order freely independent random variables, we provide formulas to compute each of the cumulants $(κ_{n,m}^{ab})_{n,m\geq 1}$, $(κ_{n,m}^{ab-ba})_{n,m\geq 1}$, and $(κ_{n,m}^{ab+ba})_{n,m\geq 1}$ in terms of the individual cumulants $(κ_{n}^{a})_{n\geq 1}$, $(κ_{n,m}^{a})_{n,m\geq 1}$, $(κ_{n}^{b})_{n\geq 1}$, and $(κ_{n,m}^{b})_{n,m\geq 1}$. For $n=m=1$ our formulas read: \begin{align*} κ_{1,1}^{ab} &= κ_{2}^{a}κ_{2}^{b} +κ_{1,1}^{a}(κ_{1}^{b})^2+κ_{1,1}^{b}(κ_{1}^{a})^2,\\ κ_{1,1}^{ab-ba} &= 2κ_{2}^{a}κ_{2}^{b},\\ κ_{1,1}^{ab+ba} &= 2κ_{2}^{a}κ_{2}^{b} +4κ_{1,1}^{a}(κ_{1}^{b})^2+4κ_{1,1}^{b}(κ_{1}^{a})^2. \end{align*} In general, our formulas express the cumulants $κ_{n,m}^{ab}$, $κ_{n,m}^{ab-ba}$, and $κ_{n,m}^{ab+ba}$ as sums indexed by special subsets of non-crossing partitioned permutations. The formulas for the commutator and anti-commutator where not studied before, while the formula for the product was only known in the case the where the individual second order free cumulants vanish. As an application, we compute explicitly the cumulants of the anti-commutator and product of two second order free semicircular variables.
Homogeneous substructures in random ordered hyper-matchings
An ordered $r$-uniform matching of size $n$ is a collection of $n$ pairwise disjoint $r$-subsets of a linearly ordered set of $rn$ vertices. For $n=2$, such a matching is called an $r$-pattern, as it represents one of $\tfrac12\binom{2r}r$ ways two disjoint edges may intertwine. Given a set $\mathcal{P}$ of $r$-patterns, a $\mathcal{P}$-clique is a matching with all pairs of edges order-isomorphic to a member of $\mathcal{P}$. In this paper we are interested in the size of a largest $\mathcal{P}$-clique in a random ordered $r$-uniform matching selected uniformly from all such matchings on a fixed vertex set $[rn]$. We determine this size (up to multiplicative constants) for several sets $\mathcal{P}$, including all sets of size $|\mathcal{P}|\le2$, the set $\mathcal{R}^{(r)}$ of all $r$-partite patterns, as well as sets $\mathcal{P}$ enjoying a Boolean-like, symmetric structure.
Cycle-factors of regular graphs via entropy
It is a classical result that a random permutation of $n$ elements has, on average, about $\log n$ cycles. We generalise this fact to all directed $d$-regular graphs on $n$ vertices by showing that, on average, a random cycle-factor of such a graph has $\mathcal{O}((n\log d)/d)$ cycles. This is tight up to the constant factor and improves the best previous bound of the form $\mathcal{O}(n/\sqrt{\log d})$ due to Vishnoi. Our results also yield randomised polynomial-time algorithms for finding such a cycle-factor and for finding a tour of length $(1+\mathcal{O}((\log d)/d)) \cdot n$ if the graph is connected. This makes progress on a conjecture of Magnant and Martin and on a problem studied by Vishnoi and by Feige, Ravi, and Singh. Our proof uses the language of entropy to exploit the fact that the upper and lower bounds on the number of perfect matchings in regular bipartite graphs are extremely close.

Spectral analysis of $q$-deformed unitary ensembles with the Al-Salam--Carlitz weight
We study $q$-deformed random unitary ensembles associated with the weight function of the Al-Salam--Carlitz orthogonal polynomials, indexed by a parameter $a < 0$. In the special case $a = -1$, the model reduces to the $q$-deformed Gaussian unitary ensemble. Employing the Flajolet--Viennot theory together with the combinatorics of matchings, we derive an explicit positive-sum expression for the spectral moments. In the double-scaling regime $q = e^{-λ/N}$, where $N$ denotes the ensemble size and $λ> 0$ is fixed, we derive the first two terms in the large-$N$ expansion of the spectral moments. As a consequence, we obtain a closed-form expression for the limiting spectral density. Notably, this density exhibits two successive phase transitions as $λ$ increases, characterised by a reduction in the number of soft edges from two, to one, and eventually to none. Furthermore, we show that the limiting density coincides with the limiting zero distribution of the Al-Salam--Carlitz orthogonal polynomials under the same scaling.

Global fluctuations for standard Young tableaux
We introduce the notion of a Young generating function for a probability measure on integer partitions. We use this object to characterize probability distributions over integer partitions satisfying a law of large numbers and those that satisfy a central limit theorem. We further establish a multilevel central limit theorem, which enables the study of random standard Young tableaux. As applications of these results, we describe the fluctuations of height functions associated with (i) the Plancherel growth process, (ii) random standard Young tableaux of fixed shape, and (iii) probability distributions induced by extreme characters of the infinite symmetric group $S_\infty$. In all cases, we identify the limiting fluctuations as a conditioned Gaussian Free Field.

Last passage percolation in lower triangular domain
Last passage percolation (LPP) in an $n\times n$ lower triangular domain has nice connections with various generalizations of Schur measures. LPP along an anti-diagonal, from $(1,n)$ to $(n,1)$, gives a distribution of a highest column of a random composition with respect to a Demazure measure (a non-symmetric analog of a Schur measure). LPP along a main diagonal, from $(1,1)$ to $(n,n)$, is distributed as a marginal of a Pfaffian Schur process. In the first case we show that the asymptotics for the constant specialization is governed by the GOE Tracy-Widom distribution, in the second case - by the GSE Tracy-Widom distribution. In the latter case we were also able to study the truncated lower triangular case, obtaining an interesting generalization of the GSE Tracy-Widom distribution.
To see the forest for the trees: On the infinite divisibility of unlabeled forests
Inspired by Stufler's recent probabilistic proof of Otter's asymptotic number of unlabeled trees, we revisit work of Palmer and Schwenk, and study unlabeled forests from a probabilistic point of view. We show that the number of trees in a random forest converges, with all of its moments, to a shifted compound Poisson. We also find the asymptotic proportion of forests that are trees. The key fact is that the number of trees $t_n$ and forests $f_n$ are related by a Lévy process. As such, the results by Palmer and Schwenk follow by an earlier and far-reaching limit theory by Hawkes and Jenkins. We also show how this limit theory implies results by Schwenk and by Meir and Moon, related to degrees in large random trees. Our arguments apply, more generally, to the enumeration of sub-exponentially weighted integer partitions, or, in fact, any setting where the underlying Lévy process follows the one big jump principle.

Random graphs, expanding families and the construction of noncompact hyperbolic surfaces with uniform spectral gaps
In this paper, we introduce and analyze a random graph model $\mathcal{F}_{χ,n}$, which is a configuration model consisting of interior and boundary vertices. We investigate the asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues for graphs in $\mathcal{F}_{χ,n}$ under various growth regimes of $χ$ and $n$. When $n = o\left(χ^{\frac{2}{3}}\right)$, we prove that almost every graph in the model is connected and forms an expander family. We also establish upper bounds for the first Steklov eigenvalue, identifying scenarios in which expanders cannot be constructed. Furthermore, we explicitly construct an expanding family in the critical regime $n \asymp g$, and apply it to build a sequence of complete, noncompact hyperbolic surfaces with uniformly positive spectral gaps.
Frostman random variables, entropy inequalities, and applications
We introduce Frostman conditions for bivariate random variables and study discretized entropy sum-product phenomena in both independent and dependent settings. Fix $0 < s < 1$, and let $(X,Y)$ be a bivariate real random variable with bounded support, whose distribution satisfies a Frostman condition of dimension $s$. Let $φ(x,y)$ be a polynomial obtained from a diagonal polynomial $ρ_1(x)+ρ_2(y)\in \mathbb{R}[x, y]$ of degree $d\ge 2$ by applying an invertible rational linear change of variables in $(x,y)$. We show that there exists $ε= ε(φ,s)>0$ such that $$ \max\{H_n(X+Y), H_n(φ(X,Y))\} \geq n(s+ε) $$ for all sufficiently large $n$, where the precise assumptions on $(X,Y)$ depend on the Frostman level. The proof introduces a novel multi-step entropy framework, combining the submodularity formula, the discretized entropy Balog-Szemerédi-Gowers theorem, and state-of-the-art results on the Falconer distance problem, to reduce general forms to a diagonal core case. As an application, we obtain discretized sum-product type estimates. In particular, for a $δ$-separated set $A\subseteq [0, 1]$ of cardinality $δ^{-s}$, satisfying certain non-concentration conditions, and a dense subset $G\subseteq A\times A$, there exists $ε=ε(s, φ)>0$ such that $$ E_δ(A+_GA) + E_δ(φ_G(A, A)) \ggδ^{-ε}(\#A) $$ for all $δ$ small enough. Here $E_δ(A)$ denotes the $δ$-covering number of $A$, $A+_GA:=\{x+y\colon (x, y)\in G\}$, and $φ_G(A,A):=\{φ(x, y)\colon (x, y)\in G\}$.
The Labeled Coupon Collector Problem
We generalize the well-known Coupon Collector Problem (CCP) in combinatorics. Our problem is to find the minimum and expected number of draws, with replacement, required to recover $n$ distinctly labeled coupons, with each draw consisting of a random subset of $k$ different coupons and a random ordering of their associated labels. We specify two variations of the problem, Type-I in which the set of labels is known at the start, and Type-II in which the set of labels is unknown at the start. We show that our problem can be viewed as an extension of the separating system problem introduced by Rényi and Katona, provide a full characterization of the minimum, and provide a numerical approach to finding the expectation using a Markov chain model, with special attention given to the case where two coupons are drawn at a time.

Sharp Square Root Bounds for Edge Eigenvector Universality in Sparse Random Regular Graphs
We study how eigenvectors of random regular graphs behave when projected onto fixed directions. For a random $d$-regular graph with $N$ vertices, where the degree $d$ grows slowly with $N$, we prove that these projections follow approximately normal distributions. Our main result establishes a Berry-Esseen bound showing convergence to the Gaussian with error $O(\sqrt{d} \cdot N^{-1/6+\varepsilon})$ for degrees $d \leq N^{1/4}$. This bound significantly improves upon previous results that had error terms scaling as $d^3$, and we prove our $\sqrt{d}$ scaling is optimal by establishing a matching lower bound. Our proof combines three techniques: (1) refined concentration inequalities that exploit the specific variance structure of regular graphs, (2) a vector-based analysis of the resolvent that avoids iterative procedures, and (3) a framework combining Stein's method with graph-theoretic tools to control higher-order fluctuations. These results provide sharp constants for eigenvector universality in the transition from sparse to moderately dense graphs.

Cops and Robbers, Clique Covers, and Induced Cycles
We consider the Cops and Robbers game played on finite simple graphs. In a graph $G$, the number of cops required to capture a robber in the Cops and Robbers game is denoted by $c(G)$. For all graphs $G$, $c(G) \leq α(G) \leq θ(G)$ where $α(G)$ and $θ(G)$ are the independence number and clique cover number respectively. In 2022 Turcotte asked if $c(G) < α(G)$ for all graphs with $α(G) \geq 3$. Recently, Char, Maniya, and Pradhan proved this is false, at least when $α= 3$,by demonstrating the compliment of the Shrikhande graph has cop number and independence number $3$. We prove, using random graphs, the stronger result that for all $k\geq 1$ there exists a graph $G$ such that $c(G) = α(G) = θ(G) = k$. Next, we consider the structure of graphs with $c(G) = θ(G) \geq 3$. We prove, using structural arguments, that any graphs $G$ which satisfies $c(G) = θ(G) = k \geq 3$ contain induced cycles of all lengths $3\leq t \leq k+1$. This implies all perfect graphs $G$ with $α(G)\geq 4$ have $c(G) < α(G)$. Additionally,we discuss if typical triangle-free and $C_4$-free graphs will have $c(G) < α(G)$.

Stable matchings with switching costs
In a stable matching problem there are two groups of agents, with agents on one side having their individual preferences for agents on another side as a potential match. It is assumed silently that agents can freely and costlessly ``switch" partners. A matching is called stable if no two unmatched agents prefer each other to their matches. Half a century ago, for equinumerous sides, Knuth demonstrated existence of preferences for which there are exponentially many stable matchings, and he posed a problem of evaluating an expected number of stable matchings when the preferences are uniformly random and independent. It was shown later by Pittel that this expectation is quite moderate, asymptotic to $e^{-1}n\log n$, $n$ being the number of agents on each side. The proof used Knuth's integral formula for the expectation based on a classic inclusion-exclusion counting. In later papers by Pittel this and other integral formulas were obtained by generating preference lists via a pair of random matrices, with independently random, $[0,1]$-uniform entries, rather than from a progressively problematic counting approach. The novelty of this paper is that we view the matrix entries as a basis for cardinal utilities that each agent ascribes to the agents on the other side. Relaxing the notion of stability, we declare matching stable if no unmatched pair of agents {\it strongly\/} prefer each other to their partners, with ``strength'' measured by a parameter $\eps>0$, $\eps=0$ corresponding to classic stability. We show that for $\eps$ of order $n^{-1}\log n$ the expected number of $\eps$-stable matchings is polynomially large, but for $\eps\gg n^{-1}\log n$ {\it however slightly\/} the expectation is suddenly super-polynomially large. This ``explosion'' phenomenon for a very small strength parameter $\eps$ continues to hold for imbalanced matchings, regardless of the imbalance size.

Transversal packings in families of percolated hypergraphs
Let $F$ be a strictly $1$-balanced $k$-graph on $s$ vertices with $t$ edges and $δ_{F,d}^T$ be the infimum of $δ>0$ such that for every $α>0$ and sufficiently large $n\in \mathbb{N}$, every $k$-graph system $\mathbf H=\{H_{1}, H_{2}, \dots ,H_{tn}\}$ on the same $sn$ vertices with $δ_d(H_i)\ge (δ+α)\binom{sn-d}{k-d}$, $i\in [tn]$ contains a transversal $F$-factor, that is, an $F$-factor consisting of exactly one edge from each $H_i$. In this paper we prove the following result. Let $\mathbf{H} =\{H_{1}, H_{2}, \dots ,H_{tn}\}$ be a $k$-graph system where each $H_{i}$ is an $sn$-vertex $k$-graph with $δ_d(H_i)\ge (δ_{F,d}^T+α)\binom{sn-d}{k-d}$. Then with high probability $\mathbf{H}(p) :=\{H_{1}(p), H_{2}(p), \dots ,H_{tn}(p)\}$ contains a transversal $F$-factor, where $H_i(p)$ is a random subhypergraph of $H_i$ and $p=Ω(n^{-1/d_1(F)-1}(\log n)^{1/t})$. This extends a recent result by Kelly, Müyesser and Pokrovskiy, and independently by Joos, Lang and Sanhueza-Matamala. Moreover, the assumption on $p$ is best possible up to a constant. Along the way, we also obtain a spread version of a result of Pikhurko on perfect matchings in $k$-partite $k$-graphs.

Quantitative Edge Eigenvector Universality for Random Regular Graphs: Berry-Esseen Bounds with Explicit Constants
We establish the first quantitative Berry-Esseen bounds for edge eigenvector statistics in random regular graphs. For any $d$-regular graph on $N$ vertices with fixed $d \geq 3$ and deterministic unit vector $\mathbf{q} \perp \mathbf{e}$, we prove that the normalized overlap $\sqrt{N}\langle \mathbf{q}, \mathbf{u}_2 \rangle$ satisfies \[ \sup_{x \in \mathbb{R}} \left|\mathbb{P}\left(\sqrt{N}\langle \mathbf{q}, \mathbf{u}_2 \rangle \leq x\right) - Φ(x)\right| \leq C_d N^{-1/6+\varepsilon} \] where $\mathbf{u}_2$ is the second eigenvector and $C_d \leq \tilde{C}d^3\varepsilon^{-10}$ for an absolute constant $\tilde{C}$. This provides the first explicit convergence rate for the recent edge eigenvector universality results of He, Huang, and Yau \cite{HHY25}. Our proof introduces a single-scale comparison method using constrained Dyson Brownian motion that preserves the degree constraint $\tilde{H}_t\mathbf{e} = 0$ throughout the evolution. The key technical innovation is a sharp edge isotropic local law with explicit constant $C(d,\varepsilon) \leq \tilde{C}d\varepsilon^{-5}$, enabling precise control of eigenvector overlap dynamics. At the critical time $t_* = N^{-1/3+\varepsilon}$, we perform a fourth-order cumulant comparison with constrained GOE, achieving optimal error bounds through a single comparison rather than the traditional multi-scale approach. We extend our results to joint universality for the top $K$ edge eigenvectors with $K \leq N^{1/10-δ}$, showing they converge to independent Gaussians. Through analysis of eigenvalue spacing barriers, critical time scales, and comparison across multiple proof methods, we provide evidence that the $N^{-1/6}$ rate is optimal for sparse regular graphs. All constants are tracked explicitly throughout, enabling finite-size applications in spectral algorithms and network analysis.
