Hamiltonicity of graphs perturbed by a random regular graph
We study Hamiltonicity and pancyclicity in the graph obtained as the union of a deterministic $n$-vertex graph $H$ with $δ(H)\geqαn$ and a random $d$-regular graph $G$, for $d\in\{1,2\}$. When $G$ is a random $2$-regular graph, we prove that a.a.s. $H\cup G$ is pancyclic for all $α\in(0,1]$, and also extend our result to a range of sublinear degrees. When $G$ is a random $1$-regular graph, we prove that a.a.s. $H\cup G$ is pancyclic for all $α\in(\sqrt{2}-1,1]$, and this result is best possible. Furthermore, we show that this bound on $δ(H)$ is only needed when $H$ is `far' from containing a perfect matching, as otherwise we can show results analogous to those of random $2$-regular graphs. Our proofs provide polynomial-time algorithms to find cycles of any length.

We count the ordered sum-free triplets of subsets in the group $\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}$, i.e., the triplets $(A,B,C)$ of sets $A,B,C \subset \mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}$ for which the equation $a+b=c$ has no solution with $a\in A$, $b \in B$ and $c \in C$. Our main theorem improves on a recent result by Semchankau, Shabanov, and Shkredov using a different and simpler method. Our proof relates previous results on the number of independent sets of regular graphs by Kahn, Perarnau and Perkins, and Csikvári to produce explicit estimates on smaller order terms. We also obtain estimates for the number of sum-free triplets of subsets in a general abelian group.
Norton algebras of the Hamming Graphs via linear characters

The Norton product is defined on each eigenspace of a distance regular graph by the orthogonal projection of the entry-wise product. The resulting algebra, known as the Norton algebra, is a commutative nonassociative algebra that is useful in group theory due to its interesting automorphism group. We provide a formula for the Norton product on each eigenspace of a Hamming graph using linear characters. We construct a large subgroup of automorphisms of the Norton algebra of a Hamming graph and completely describe the automorphism group in some cases. We also show that the Norton product on each eigenspace of a Hamming graph is as nonassociative as possible, except for some special cases in which it is either associative or equally as nonassociative as the so-called double minus operation previously studied by the author, Mickey, and Xu. Our results restrict to the hypercubes and extend to the halved and/or folded cubes, the bilinear forms graphs, and more generally, all Cayley graphs of finite abelian groups.
Two conjectured strengthenings of Turán's theorem

We investigate two conjectured spectral graph theoretic strengthenings of Turán's theorem. Let $μ_1 \ge \ldots \ge μ_n$ denote the eigenvalues of a graph $G$ with $n$ vertices, $m$ edges and clique number $ω(G)$. The concise version of Turán's theorem is that $n/(n - d)$ is a lower bound for the clique number $ω(G)$, where $d$ is the average degree. Our first conjecture is that $d$ can be replaced in this bound with $\sqrt{s^+}$, where $s^+$ is the sum of the squares of the positive eigenvalues. We prove this conjecture for triangle-free, weakly perfect and Kneser graphs and for almost all graphs. We have also used various software tools to search for a counter-example. Nikiforov proved a spectral version of Turán's theorem that \[ μ_1^2 \le \frac{2m(ω(G) - 1)}{ω(G)}, \] and Bollobás and Nikiforov conjectured that for $G \not = K_n$ \[ μ_1^2 + μ_2^2 \le \frac{2m(ω(G) - 1)}{ω(G)}. \] For our second conjecture, we propose that for all graphs $(μ_1^2 + μ_2^2)$ in this inequality can be replaced by the sum of the squares of the $ω(G)$ largest eigenvalues, provided they are positive. We prove the conjecture for weakly perfect, Kneser, and classes of strongly regular graphs. We also provide experimental evidence and describe how the bound can be applied. Liu and Ning published a wide-ranging paper entitled ``Unsolved Problems in spectral graph theory'', and these two conjectures were placed second and fourth in their list of such problems.
Strong edge colorings of graphs and the covers of Kneser graphs

A proper edge coloring of a graph is strong if it creates no bichromatic path of length three. It is well known that for a strong edge coloring of a $k$-regular graph at least $2k-1$ colors are needed. We show that a $k$-regular graph admits a strong edge coloring with $2k-1$ colors if and only if it covers the Kneser graph $K(2k-1,k-1)$. In particular, a cubic graph is strongly $5$-edge-colorable whenever it covers the Petersen graph. One of the implications of this result is that a conjecture about strong edge colorings of subcubic graphs proposed by Faudree et al. [Ars Combin. 29 B (1990), 205--211] is false.
Distance-regular graphs obtained from the Mathieu groups
In this paper we construct distance-regular graphs admitting a transitive action of the five sporadic simple groups discovered by E. Mathieu, the Mathieu groups $M_{11}$, $M_{12}$, $M_{22}$, $M_{23}$ and $M_{24}$. From the code spanned by the adjacency matrix of the strongly regular graph with parameters (176,70,18,34) we obtain block designs having the full automorphism groups isomorphic to the Higman-Sims finite simple group. Further, we discuss a possibility of permutation decoding of the codes spanned by the adjacency matrices of the graphs constructed and find small PD-sets for some of the codes.
Enumerating Labeled Graphs that Realize a Fixed Degree Sequence
A finite non-increasing sequence of positive integers $d = (d_1\geq \cdots\geq d_n)$ is called a degree sequence if there is a graph $G = (V,E)$ with $V = \{v_1,\ldots,v_n\}$ and $deg(v_i)=d_i$ for $i=1,\ldots,n$. In that case we say that the graph $G$ realizes the degree sequence $d$. We show that the exact number of labeled graphs that realize a fixed degree sequence satisfies a simple recurrence relation. Using this relation, we then obtain a recursive algorithm for the exact count. We also show that in the case of regular graphs the complexity of our algorithm is better than the complexity of the same enumeration that uses generating functions.
Frames over finite fields: Equiangular lines in orthogonal geometry

We investigate equiangular lines in finite orthogonal geometries, focusing specifically on equiangular tight frames (ETFs). In parallel with the known correspondence between real ETFs and strongly regular graphs (SRGs) that satisfy certain parameter constraints, we prove that ETFs in finite orthogonal geometries are closely aligned with a modular generalization of SRGs. The constraints in our finite field setting are weaker, and all but~18 known SRG parameters on $v \leq 1300$ vertices satisfy at least one of them. Applying our results to triangular graphs, we deduce that Gerzon's bound is attained in finite orthogonal geometries of infinitely many dimensions. We also demonstrate connections with real ETFs, and derive necessary conditions for ETFs in finite orthogonal geometries. As an application, we show that Gerzon's bound cannot be attained in a finite orthogonal geometry of dimension~5.

Switches are operations which make local changes to the edges of a graph, usually with the aim of preserving the vertex degrees. We study a restricted set of switches, called triangle switches. Each triangle switch creates or deletes at least one triangle. Triangle switches can be used to define Markov chains which generate graphs with a given degree sequence and with many more triangles (3-cycles) than is typical in a uniformly random graph with the same degrees. We show that the set of triangle switches connects the set of all $d$-regular graphs on $n$ vertices, for all $d\geq 3$. Hence, any Markov chain which assigns positive probability to all triangle switches is irreducible on these graphs. We also investigate this question for 2-regular graphs.
A Generalized Information-Theoretic Approach for Bounding the Number of Independent Sets in Bipartite Graphs

This paper studies the problem of upper bounding the number of independent sets in a graph, expressed in terms of its degree distribution. For bipartite regular graphs, Kahn (2001) established a tight upper bound using an information-theoretic approach, and he also conjectured an upper bound for general graphs. His conjectured bound was recently proved by Sah et al. (2019), using different techniques not involving information theory. The main contribution of this work is the extension of Kahn's information-theoretic proof technique to handle irregular bipartite graphs. In particular, when the bipartite graph is regular on one side, but it may be irregular in the other, the extended entropy-based proof technique yields the same bound that was conjectured by Kahn (2001) and proved by Sah et al. (2019).
Saturation problems with regularity constraints

For a graph $F$, we say that another graph $G$ is $F$-saturated, if $G$ is $F$-free and adding any edge to $G$ would create a copy of $F$. We study for a given graph $F$ and integer $n$ whether there exists a regular $n$-vertex $F$-saturated graph, and if it does, what is the smallest number of edges of such a graph. We mainly focus on the case when $F$ is a complete graph and prove for example that there exists a $K_3$-saturated regular graph on $n$ vertices for every large enough $n$.
We also study two relaxed versions of the problem: when we only require that no regular $F$-free supergraph of $G$ should exist or when we drop the $F$-free condition and only require that any newly added edge should create a new copy of $F$.

Let $H(n, q^2)$ be a non-degenerate Hermitian variety of $PG(n, q^2)$, $n \ge 2$. Let NU$(n+1, q^2)$ be the graph whose vertices are the points of $PG(n, q^2) \setminus H(n, q^2)$ and two vertices $P_1$, $P_2$ are adjacent if the line joining $P_1$ and $P_2$ is tangent to $H(n, q^2)$. Then NU$(n + 1, q^2)$ is a strongly regular graph. In this paper we show that NU$(n + 1, q^2)$, $n \ne 3$, is not determined by its spectrum.
Improving the Delsarte bound
In this paper, we study the order of a maximal clique in an amply regular graph with a fixed smallest eigenvalue by considering a vertex that is adjacent to some (but not all) vertices of the maximal clique. As a consequence, we show that if a strongly regular graph contains a Delsarte clique, then the parameter $μ$ is either small or large.
Furthermore, we obtain a cubic polynomial that assures that a maximal clique in an amply regular graph is either small or large (under certain assumptions). Combining this cubic polynomial with the claw-bound, we rule out an infinite family of feasible parameters $(v,k,λ,μ)$ for strongly regular graphs. Lastly, we provide tables of parameters $(v,k,λ,μ)$ for nonexistent strongly regular graphs with smallest eigenvalue $-4, -5, -6$ or $-7$.

We define a correlated random walk (CRW) induced from the time evolution matrix (the Grover matrix) of the Grover walk on a graph $G$, and present a formula for the characteristic polynomial of the transition probability matrix of this CRW by using a determinant expression for the generalized weighted zeta function of $G$. As applications, we give the spectrum of the transition probability matrices for the CRWs induced from the Grover matrices of regular graphs and semiregular bipartite graphs. Furthermore, we consider another type of the CRW on a graph.
Switching for Small Strongly Regular Graphs
We provide an abundance of strongly regular graphs (SRGs) for certain parameters $(n, k, λ, μ)$ with $n < 100$. For this we use Godsil-McKay (GM) switching with a partition of type $4,n-4$ and Wang-Qiu-Hu (WQH) switching with a partition of type $3,3,n-6$ or $4,4,n-8$. In most cases, we start with a highly symmetric graph which belongs to a finite geometry. Many of the obtained graphs are new; for instance, we find 16565438 strongly regular graphs with parameters $(81, 30, 9, 12)$ while only 15 seem to be described in the literature.
We provide statistics about the size of the occurring automorphism groups. We also find the recently discovered Krčadinac partial geometry, thus finding a third method of constructing it.

Strongly walk regular graphs (SWRGs or $s$-SWRGs) form a natural generalization of strongly regular graphs (SRGs) where paths of length~2 are replaced by paths of length~$s$. They can be constructed as coset graphs of the duals of projective three-weight codes whose weights satisfy a certain equation. We provide classifications of the feasible parameters of these codes in the binary and ternary case for medium size code lengths. For the binary case, the divisibility of the weights of these codes is investigated and several general results are shown. It is known that an $s$-SWRG has at most 4 distinct eigenvalues $k > θ_1 > θ_2 > θ_3$, and that the triple $(θ_1, θ_2, θ_3)$ satisfies a certain homogeneous polynomial equation of degree $s - 2$ (Van Dam, Omidi, 2013). This equation defines a plane algebraic curve; we use methods from algorithmic arithmetic geometry to show that for $s = 5$ and $s = 7$, there are only the obvious solutions, and we conjecture this to remain true for all (odd) $s \ge 9$.

A $P_\ell$-decomposition of a graph $G$ is a set of paths with $\ell$ edges in $G$ that cover the edge set of $G$. Favaron, Genest, and Kouider (2010) conjectured that every $(2k+1)$-regular graph that contains a perfect matching admits a $P_{2k+1}$-decomposition. They also verified this conjecture for $5$-regular graphs without cycles of length $4$. In 2015, Botler, Mota, and Wakabayashi verified this conjecture for $5$-regular graphs without triangles. In this paper, we verify it for $(2k+1)$-regular graphs that contain the $k$th power of a spanning cycle; and for $5$-regular graphs that contain special spanning $4$-regular Cayley graphs.
Hamilton decompositions of line graphs
It is proved that if a graph is regular of even degree and contains a Hamilton cycle, or regular of odd degree and contains a Hamiltonian $3$-factor, then its line graph is Hamilton decomposable. This result partially extends Kotzig's result that a $3$-regular graph is Hamiltonian if and only if its line graph is Hamilton decomposable, and proves the conjecture of Bermond that the line graph of a Hamilton decomposable graph is Hamilton decomposable.

A coloured graph is k-ultrahomogeneous if every isomorphism between two induced subgraphs of order at most k extends to an automorphism. A coloured graph is t-tuple regular if the number of vertices adjacent to every vertex in a set S of order at most k depends only on the isomorphism type of the subgraph induced by S.
We classify the finite vertex-coloured k-ultrahomogeneous graphs and the finite vertex-coloured l-tuple regular graphs for k at least 4 and l at least 5, respectively. Our theorem in particular classifies finite vertex-coloured ultrahomogeneous graphs, where ultrahomogeneous means the graph is simultaneously k-ultrahomogeneous for all k.
