In this paper we establish all extremal graphs with respect to augmented eccentric connectivity index among all (simple connected) graphs, among trees and among trees with perfect matching. For graphs that turn out to be extremal explicit formulas for the value of augmented eccentric connectivity index are derived.

We study the partition function of Potts model in an external (magnetic) field, and its connections with the zero-field Potts model partition function. Using a deletion-contraction formulation for the partition function Z for this model, we show that it can be expanded in terms of the zero-field partition function. We also show that Z can be written as a sum over the spanning trees, and the spanning forests, of a graph G. Our results extend to Z the well-known spanning tree expansion for the zero-field partition function that arises though its connections with the Tutte polynomial.
Chip-firing games, potential theory on graphs, and spanning trees

We study the interplay between chip-firing games and potential theory on graphs, characterizing reduced divisors ($G$-parking functions) on graphs as the solution to an energy (or potential) minimization problem and providing an algorithm to efficiently compute reduced divisors. Applications include an "efficient bijective" proof of Kirchhoff's matrix-tree theorem and a new algorithm for finding random spanning trees. The running times of our algorithms are analyzed using potential theory, and we show that the bounds thus obtained generalize and improve upon several previous results in the literature. We also extend some of these considerations to metric graphs.
m_3^3-Convex geometries are A-free
Let V be a finite set and M a collection of subsets of V. Then M is an alignment of V if and only if M is closed under taking intersections and contains both V and the empty set. If M is an alignment of V, then the elements of M are called convex sets and the pair (V, M) is called an aligned space. If S is a subset of V, then the convex hull of S is the smallest convex set that contains S. Suppose X in M. Then x in X is an extreme point for X if X-x is in M. The collection of all extreme points of X is denoted by ex(X). A convex geometry on a finite set is an aligned space with the additional property that every convex set is the convex hull of its extreme points. Let G=(V,E) be a connected graph and U a set of vertices of G. A subgraph T of G containing U is a minimal U-tree if T is a tree and if every vertex of V(T)-U is a cut-vertex of the subgraph induced by V(T). The monophonic interval of U is the collection of all vertices of G that belong to some minimal U-tree. A set S of vertices in a graph is m_k-convex if it contains the monophonic interval of every k-set of vertices is S. A set of vertices S of a graph is m^3-convex if for every pair u,v of vertices in S, the vertices on every induced path of length at least 3 are contained in S. A set S is m_3^3-convex if it is both m_3- and m^3- convex. We show that if the m_3^3-convex sets form a convex geometry, then G is A-free.

We prove that the contact graph of a 2-dimensional CAT(0) cube complex ${\bf X}$ of maximum degree $Δ$ can be coloured with at most $ε(Δ)=MΔ^{26}$ colours, for a fixed constant $M$. This implies that ${\bf X}$ (and the associated median graph) isometrically embeds in the Cartesian product of at most $ε(Δ)$ trees, and that the event structure whose domain is ${\bf X}$ admits a nice labeling with $ε(Δ)$ labels. On the other hand, we present an example of a 5-dimensional CAT(0) cube complex with uniformly bounded degrees of 0-cubes which cannot be embedded into a Cartesian product of a finite number of trees. This answers in the negative a question raised independently by F. Haglund, G. Niblo, M. Sageev, and the first author of this paper.

The degree chromatic polynomial $Pm(G,k)$ of a graph $G$ counts the number of $k$-colorings in which no vertex has $m$ adjacent vertices of its same color. We prove Humpert and Martin's conjecture on the leading terms of the degree chromatic polynomial of a tree.
Turàn numbers of Multiple Paths and Equibipartite Trees

The Turán number of a graph H, ex(n;H), is the maximum number of edges in any graph on n vertices which does not contain H as a subgraph. Let P_l denote a path on l vertices, and kP_l denote k vertex-disjoint copies of P_l. We determine ex(n, kP_3) for n appropriately large, answering in the positive a conjecture of Gorgol. Further, we determine ex (n, kP_l) for arbitrary l, and n appropriately large relative to k and l. We provide some background on the famous Erdős-Sós conjecture, and conditional on its truth we determine ex(n;H) when H is an equibipartite forest, for appropriately large n.

Let ${\mathcal T}(n,m)$ and ${\mathcal F}(n,m)$ denote the classes of weighted trees and forests, respectively, of order $n$ with the positive integral weights and the fixed total weight sum $m$, respectively. In this paper, we determine the minimum energies for both the classes ${\mathcal T}(n,m)$ and ${\mathcal F}(n,m)$. We also determine the maximum energy for the class ${\mathcal F}(n,m)$. In all cases, we characterize the weighted graphs whose energies reach these extremal values. We also solve the similar maximum energy and minimum energy problems for the classes of (0,1) weighted trees and forests.

Let $Γ$ be a Cayley graph generated by a transposition tree. A natural problem is to understand how the properties of the Cayley graph depend on those of the underlying transposition tree. We focus here on diameter and distance related questions. We examine some related bounds and prove some properties about them.

A partition on [n] has an m-nesting if there exists i_1 < i_2 < ... < i_m < j_m < j_{m-1} < ... < j_1, where i_l and j_l are in the same block for all 1 <= l <= m. We use generating trees to construct the class of partitions with no m-nesting and determine functional equations satisfied by the associated generating functions.
We use algebraic kernel method together with a linear operator to describe a coefficient extraction process. This gives rise to enumerative data, and illustrates the increasing complexity of the coefficient formulas as m increases.

New Computational Result on Harmonious Trees
Graham and Sloane proposed in 1980 a conjecture stating that every tree has a harmonious labelling, a graph labelling closely related to additive base. Very limited results on this conjecture are known. In this paper, we proposed a computational approach to this conjecture by checking trees with limited size. With a hybrid algorithm, we are able to show that every tree with at most 31 nodes is harmonious, extending the best previous result in this direction.

We give a short and direct proof of a remarkable identity that arises in the enumeration of labeled trees with respect to their indegree sequence, where all edges are oriented from the vertex with lower label towards the vertex with higher label. This solves a problem posed by Shin and Zeng in a recent article. We also provide a generalization of this identity that translates to a formula for the number of rooted spanning forests with given indegree sequence.

The classical Dodgson identity can be interpreted as a quadratic identity of spanning forest polynomials, where the spanning forests used in each polynomial are defined by how three marked vertices are divided among the component trees. We prove an analogous result with four marked vertices.
Generalizations of Wiener polarity index and terminal Wiener index
In theoretical chemistry, distance-based molecular structure descriptors are used for modeling physical, pharmacologic, biological and other properties of chemical compounds. We introduce a generalized Wiener polarity index $W_k (G)$ as the number of unordered pairs of vertices ${u, v}$ of $G$ such that the shortest distance $d (u, v)$ between $u$ and $v$ is $k$ (this is actually the $k$-th coefficient in the Wiener polynomial). For $k = 3$, we get standard Wiener polarity index. Furthermore, we generalize the terminal Wiener index $TW_k (G)$ as the sum of distances between all pairs of vertices of degree $k$. For $k = 1$, we get standard terminal Wiener index. In this paper we describe a linear time algorithm for computing these indices for trees and partial cubes, and characterize extremal trees maximizing the generalized Wiener polarity index and generalized terminal Wiener index among all trees of given order $n$.
Efficient algorithm for the vertex connectivity of trapezoid graphs
The intersection graph of a collection of trapezoids with corner points lying on two parallel lines is called a trapezoid graph. These graphs and their generalizations were applied in various fields, including modeling channel routing problems in VLSI design and identifying the optimal chain of non-overlapping fragments in bioinformatics. Using modified binary indexed tree data structure, we design an algorithm for calculating the vertex connectivity of trapezoid graph $G$ with time complexity $O (n \log n)$, where $n$ is the number of trapezoids. Furthermore, we establish sufficient and necessary condition for a trapezoid graph $G$ to be bipartite and characterize trees that can be represented as trapezoid graphs.
Laplacian Estrada index of trees

Let $G$ be a simple graph with $n$ vertices and let $μ_1 \geqslant μ_2 \geqslant...\geqslant μ_{n - 1} \geqslant μ_n = 0$ be the eigenvalues of its Laplacian matrix. The Laplacian Estrada index of a graph $G$ is defined as $LEE (G) = \sum\limits_{i = 1}^n e^{μ_i}$. Using the recent connection between Estrada index of a line graph and Laplacian Estrada index, we prove that the path $P_n$ has minimal, while the star $S_n$ has maximal $LEE$ among trees on $n$ vertices. In addition, we find the unique tree with the second maximal Laplacian Estrada index.
On super edge-graceful trees of diameter four
In "On the super edge graceful trees of even orders," Chung, Lee, Gao, and Schaffer posed the following problem: Characterize trees of diameter 4 which are super edge-graceful. In this paper, we provide super edge-graceful labelings for all caterpillars and even size lobsters of diameter 4 which permit such labelings. We also provide super edge-graceful labelings for several families of odd size lobsters of diameter 4.
