For two graphs $J$ and $H$, the generalized Turán number, denoted by $ex(n,J,H)$, is the maximum number of copies of $J$ in an $H$-free graph of order $n$. A linear forest $F$ is the disjoint union of paths. In this paper, we determine the number $ex(n,S_r,F)$ when $n$ is large enough and characterize the extremal graphs attaining $ex(n,S_r,F)$, which generalizes the results on $ex(n, S_r, P_k)$, $ex(n,K_2,(k+1) P_2)$ and $ex(n,K^*_{1,r},(k+1) P_2)$. Finally, we pose the problem whether the extremal graph for $ex(n,J,F)$ is isomorphic to that for $ex(n,S_r,F)$, where $J$ is any graph such that the number of $J$'s in any graph $G$ does not decrease by shifting operation on $G$.
Turán Number of Subdivisions of Multipartite Graphs
In this paper, we investigate the Turán exponent for $1$-subdivisions of graphs that are neither bipartite nor complete. Specifically, we establish an upper bound on the Turán number of the 1-subdivision of $K_{s,t}^+$, where $K_{s,t}^+$ is obtained by adding a single edge within the part of size $s$ of the complete bipartite graph $K_{s,t}$, with $4\leq s \leq t$. In addition, we derive an upper bound for the extremal number of a family of graphs formed by (possibly degenerate) 1-subdivisions of certain tripartite graphs.
The Turán number of Berge book hypergraphs

Given a graph $G$, a Berge copy of $G$ is a hypergraph obtained by enlarging the edges arbitrarily. Gy\H ori in 2006 showed that for $r=3$ or $r=4$, an $r$-uniform $n$-vertex Berge triangle-free hypergraph has at most $\lfloor n^2/8(r-2)\rfloor$ hyperedges if $n$ is large enough, and this bound is sharp.
The book graph $B_t$ consists of $t$ triangles sharing an edge. Very recently, Ghosh, Győri, Nagy-György, Paulos, Xiao and Zamora showed that a 3-uniform $n$-vertex Berge $B_t$-free hypergraph has at most $n^2/8+o(n^2)$ hyperedges if $n$ is large enough. They conjectured that this bound can be improved to $\lfloor n^2/8\rfloor$.
We prove this conjecture for $t=2$ and disprove it for $t>2$ by proving the sharp bound $\lfloor n^2/8\rfloor+(t-1)^2$. We also consider larger uniformity and determine the largest number of Berge $B_t$-free $r$-uniform hypergraphs besides an additive term $o(n^2)$. We obtain a similar bound if the Berge $t$-fan ($t$ triangles sharing a vertex) is forbidden.
Turán numbers of sunflowers
A collection of distinct sets is called a sunflower if the intersection of any pair of sets equals the common intersection of all the sets. Sunflowers are fundamental objects in extremal set theory with relations and applications to many other areas of mathematics as well as theoretical computer science. A central problem in the area due to Erdős and Rado from 1960 asks for the minimum number of sets of size $r$ needed to guarantee the existence of a sunflower of a given size. Despite a lot of recent attention including a polymath project and some amazing breakthroughs, even the asymptotic answer remains unknown.
We study a related problem first posed by Duke and Erdős in 1977 which requires that in addition the intersection size of the desired sunflower be fixed. This question is perhaps even more natural from a graph theoretic perspective since it asks for the Turán number of a hypergraph made by the sunflower consisting of $k$ edges, each of size $r$ and with common intersection of size $t$. For a fixed size of the sunflower $k$, the order of magnitude of the answer has been determined by Frankl and Füredi. In the 1980's, with certain applications in mind, Chung, Erdős and Graham and Chung and Erdős considered what happens if one allows $k$, the size of the desired sunflower, to grow with the size of the ground set. In the three uniform case $r=3$ the correct dependence on the size of the sunflower has been determined by Duke and Erdős and independently by Frankl and in the four uniform case by Bucić, Draganić, Sudakov and Tran. We resolve this problem for any uniformity, by determining up to a constant factor the $n$-vertex Turán number of a sunflower of arbitrary uniformity $r$, common intersection size $t$ and with the size of the sunflower $k$ allowed to grow with $n$.

A graph is outerplanar if it can be embedded in a plane such that all vertices lie on its outer face. The outerplanar Turán number of a given graph $H$, denoted by ${\rm ex}_{\mathcal{OP}}(n,H)$, is the maximum number of edges over all outerplanar graphs on $n$ vertices which do not contain a copy of $H$. In this paper, the outerplanar Turán numbers of cycles and paths are completely determined.
Planar Turán Number of Double Stars
Given a graph $F$, the planar Turán number of $F$, denoted $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n, F)$, is the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $F$-free planar graph. Such an extremal graph problem was initiated by Dowden while determining sharp upper bound for $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,C_4)$ and $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,C_5)$, where $C_4$ and $C_5$ are cycles of length four and five respectively. In this paper we determined an upper bound for $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,2})$, $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,3})$, $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,4})$, $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,5})$, $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{3,3})$ and $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{3,4})$, where $S_{m,n}$ is a double star with $m$ and $n$ leafs. Moreover, the bounds for $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,2})$ and $\text{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(n,S_{2,3})$ are sharp.

For an $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$, let $ν^{(m)}(H)$ denote the maximum size of a set~$M$ of edges in $H$ such that every two edges in $M$ intersect in less than $m$ vertices, and let $τ^{(m)}(H)$ denote the minimum size of a collection $C$ of $m$-sets of vertices such that every edge in $H$ contains an element of $C$. The fractional analogues of these parameters are denoted by $ν^{*(m)}(H)$ and $τ^{*(m)}(H)$, respectively. Generalizing a famous conjecture of Tuza on covering triangles in a graph, Aharoni and Zerbib conjectured that for every $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$, $τ^{(r-1)}(H)/ν^{(r-1)}(H) \leq \lceil{\frac{r+1}{2}}\rceil$. In this paper we prove bounds on the ratio between the parameters $τ^{(m)}$ and $ν^{(m)}$, and their fractional analogues. Our main result is that, for every $r$-uniform hypergraph~$H$, \[ τ^{*(r-1)}(H)/ν^{(r-1)}(H) \le \begin{cases} \frac{3}{4}r - \frac{r}{4(r+1)} &\text{for }r\text{ even,}\\ \frac{3}{4}r - \frac{r}{4(r+2)} &\text{for }r\text{ odd.} \\ \end{cases} \] This improves the known bound of $r-1$. We also prove that, for every $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$, $τ^{(m)}(H)/ν^{*(m)}(H) \le \operatorname{ex}_m(r, m+1)$, where the Turán number $\operatorname{ex}_r(n, k)$ is the maximum number of edges in an $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices that does not contain a copy of the complete $r$-uniform hypergraph on $k$ vertices. Finally, we prove further bounds in the special cases $(r,m)=(4,2)$ and $(r,m)=(4,3)$.
Generalized outerplanar Turán number of short paths
Let $H$ be a graph. The generalized outerplanar Turán number of $H$, denoted by $f_{\mathcal{OP}}(n,H)$, is the maximum number of copies of $H$ in an $n$-vertex outerplanar graph. Let $P_k$ be the path on $k$ vertices. In this paper we give an exact value of $f_{\mathcal{OP}}(n,P_4)$ and a best asymptotic value of $f_{\mathcal{OP}}(n,P_5)$. Moreover, we characterize all outerplanar graphs containing $f_{\mathcal{OP}}(n,P_4)$ copies of $P_4$.

The planar Turan number $\textrm{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(C_{\ell},n)$ is the largest number of edges in an $n$-vertex planar graph with no $\ell$-cycle. For $\ell\in \{3,4,5,6\}$, upper bounds on $\textrm{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(C_{\ell},n)$ are known that hold with equality infinitely often. Ghosh, Györi, Martin, Paulo, and Xiao [arxiv:2004.14094] conjectured an upper bound on $\textrm{ex}_{\mathcal{P}}(C_{\ell},n)$ for every $\ell\ge 7$ and $n$ sufficiently large. We disprove this conjecture for every $\ell\ge 11$. We also propose two revised versions of the conjecture.

We consider a natural generalisation of Turán's forbidden subgraph problem and the Ruzsa-Szemerédi problem by studying the maximum number $ex_F(n,G)$ of edge-disjoint copies of a fixed graph $F$ can be placed on an $n$-vertex ground set without forming a subgraph $G$ whose edges are from different $F$-copies. We determine the pairs $\{F, G\}$ for which the order of magnitude of $ex_F(n,G)$ is quadratic and prove several asymptotic results using various tools from the regularity lemma and supersaturation to graph packing results.

The Turán problem asks for the largest number of edges ex$(n,H)$ in an $n$-vertex graph not containing a fixed forbidden subgraph $H$, which is one of the most important problems in extremal graph theory. However the order of magnitude of ex$(n,H)$ for bipartite graphs is known only in a handful of cases. In particular, giving explicit constructions of extremal graphs is very challenging in this field. In this paper, we develop a polynomail resultant approach to algebraic construction of explicit extremal graphs, which can efficiently decide whether a specified structure exists. A key insight in our approach is the multipolynomial resultant, which is a fundamental tool of computational algebraic geometry. Our main results include the matched lowers bounds for Turán number of $1$-subdivision of $K_{3,t_{1}}$ and linear Turán number of Berge theta hyerpgraph $Θ_{3,t_{2}}^{B}$ with $t_{1}=25$ and $t_{2}=217$. Moreover, the constant $t_{1}$ improves the random algebraic construction of Bukh and Conlon~[Rational exponents in extremal graph theory, J. Eur. Math. Soc. 20 (2018), 1747-1757] and makes progress on the known estimation for the smallest value of $t_{1}$ concerning a problem posed by Conlon, Janzer and Lee ~[More on the extremal number of subdivisions, Combinatorica, to appear], while the constant $t_{2}$ improves a result of He and Tait~[Hypergraphs with few berge paths of fixed length between vertices, SIAM J. Discrete Math., 33(3), 1472-1481].

Let the crown $C_{13}$ be the linear $3$-graph on $9$ vertices $\{a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i\}$ with edges $$E = \{\{a,b,c\}, \{a, d,e\}, \{b, f, g\}, \{c, h,i\}\}.$$ Proving a conjecture of Gyárfás et. al., we show that for any crown-free linear $3$-graph $G$ on $n$ vertices, its number of edges satisfy $$\lvert E(G) \rvert \leq \frac{3(n - s)}{2}$$ where $s$ is the number of vertices in $G$ with degree at least $6$. This result, combined with previous work, essentially completes the determination of linear Turán number for linear $3$-graphs with at most $4$ edges.

In 1981, Erdős and Simonovits conjectured that for any bipartite graph $H$ we have $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)=O(n^{3/2})$ if and only if $H$ is $2$-degenerate. Later, Erdős offered 250 dollars for a proof and 500 dollars for a counterexample. In this paper, we disprove the conjecture by finding, for any $\varepsilon>0$, a $3$-regular bipartite graph $H$ with $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)=O(n^{4/3+\varepsilon})$.
Anti-Ramsey number of matchings in $r$-partite $r$-uniform hypergraphs

An edge-colored hypergraph is rainbow if all of its edges have different colors. Given two hypergraphs $\mathcal{H}$ and $\mathcal{G}$, the anti-Ramsey number $ar(\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{H})$ of $\mathcal{H}$ in $\mathcal{G}$ is the maximum number of colors needed to color the edges of $\mathcal{G}$ so that there does not exist a rainbow copy of $\mathcal{H}$. Li et al. determined the anti-Ramsey number of $k$-matchings in complete bipartite graphs. Jin and Zang showed the uniqueness of the extremal coloring. In this paper, as a generalization of these results, we determine the anti-Ramsey number $ar_r(\mathcal{K}_{n_1,\ldots,n_r},M_k)$ of $k$-matchings in complete $r$-partite $r$-uniform hypergraphs and show the uniqueness of the extremal coloring. Also, we show that $\mathcal{K}_{k-1,n_2,\ldots,n_r}$ is the unique extremal hypergraph for Turán number $ex_r(\mathcal{K}_{n_1,\ldots,n_r},M_k)$ and show that $ar_r(\mathcal{K}_{n_1,\ldots,n_r},$ $M_k)=ex_r(\mathcal{K}_{n_1,\ldots,n_r},M_{k-1})+1$, which gives a multi-partite version result of Özkahya and Young's conjecture.
Improved Upper Bound on the Linear Turán Number of the Crown
A linear $3$-graph is a set of vertices along with a set of edges, which are three element subsets of the vertices, such that any two edges intersect in at most one vertex. The crown, $C$, is a specific $3$-graph consisting of three pairwise disjoint edges, called jewels, along with a fourth edge intersecting all three jewels. For a linear $3$-graph, $F$, the linear Turán number, $ex(n,F)$, is the maximum number of edges in any linear $3$-graph that does not contain $F$ as a subgraph. Currently, the best known bounds on the linear Turán number of the crown are
\[ 6 \Big \lfloor \frac{n-3}{4}\Big \rfloor \leq ex(n, C) \leq 2n. \] In this paper, the upper bound is improved to $ex(n,C) < \frac{5n}{3}$.
A non-aligning variant of generalized Turán problems

In the so-called generalized Turán problems we study the largest number of copies of $H$ in an $n$-vertex $F$-free graph $G$. Here we introduce a variant, where $F$ is not forbidden, but we restrict how copies of $H$ and $F$ can be placed in $G$. More precisely, given an integer $n$ and graphs $H$ and $F$, what is the largest number of copies of $H$ in an $n$-vertex graph such that the vertex set of that copy does not contain and is not contained in the vertex set of a copy of $F$?
We solve this problem for some instances, give bounds in other instances, and we use our results to determine the generalized Turán number for some pairs of graphs.

The generalized Turán number $ex(n,K_s,H)$ is defined to be the maximum number of copies of a complete graph $K_s$ in any $H$-free graph on $n$ vertices. Let $F$ be a linear forest consisting of $k$ paths of orders $\ell_1,\ell_2,...,\ell_k$. In this paper, by characterizing the structure of the $F$-free graph with large minimum degree, we determine the value of $ex(n,K_s,F)$ for $n=Ω\left(|F|^s\right)$ and $k\geq 2$ except some $\ell_i=3$, and the corresponding extremal graphs. The special case when $s=2$ of our result improves some results of Bushaw and Kettle (2011) and Lidický et al. (2013) on the classical Turán number for linear forests.
Crowns in linear $3$-graphs

A \textit{linear $3$-graph}, $H = (V, E)$, is a set, $V$, of vertices together with a set, $E$, of $3$-element subsets of $V$, called edges, so that any two distinct edges intersect in at most one vertex. The linear Turán number, ${\rm ex}(n,F)$, is the maximum number of edges in a linear $3$-graph $H$ with $n$ vertices containing no copy of $F$.
We focus here on the \textit{crown}, $C$, which consists of three pairwise disjoint edges (jewels) and a fourth edge (base) which intersects all of the jewels. Our main result is that every linear $3$-graph with minimum degree at least $4$ contains a crown. This is not true if $4$ is replaced by $3$. In fact the known bounds of the Turán number are \[ 6 \left\lfloor{\frac{n - 3}{4}}\right\rfloor \leq {\rm ex}(n, C) \leq 2n, \] and in the construction providing the lower bound all but three vertices have degree $3$. We conjecture that ${\rm ex}(n, C) \sim \frac{3n}{2}$ but even if this were known it would not imply our main result.
Our second result is a step towards a possible proof of ${\rm ex}(n,C) \leq \frac{3n}{2}$ (i.e., determining it within a constant error). We show that a minimal counterexample to this statement must contain certain configurations with $9$ edges and we conjecture that all of them lead to contradiction.

We show that for any integer $t\geq 2$, every properly edge-coloured graph on $n$ vertices with more than $n^{1+o(1)}$ edges contains a rainbow subdivision of $K_t$. Note that this bound on the number of edges is sharp up to the $o(1)$ error term. This is a rainbow analogue of some classical results on clique subdivisions and extends some results on rainbow Turán numbers. Our method relies on the framework introduced by Sudakov and Tomon[2020] which we adapt to find robust expanders in the coloured setting.
