The Turán number of the Cartesian product of a star and an edge
Let $C_k$ denote the cycle of length $k$, $S_t$ be a star with $t$ edges. And
let $B_t$ be the graph consisting of $t$ copies of $C_4$ sharing one fixed edge. Equivalently, $B_t=K_2 \mathbin{\square} S_t$, which is the Cartesian product of a star with $t$ edges and an edge.
Recently, Gao, Janzer, Liu and Xu [\textit{Israel J. Math. 269(2025)}] proved that the Turán number of $K_2\mathbin{\square} C_{2l}$ is $Θ(n^{\frac{3}{2}})$ for every $l\ge 4$.
In this paper, we obtain upper and lower estimates for the Turán number of $B_t$ in both the general and bipartite settings for every $t\geq 2$.
For the lower bound, we use random construction based on the extremal structure of $C_4$.
These results imply that
$\frac{1}{2\sqrt{2}}\leq \lim_{t\to \infty} \frac{\mathrm{ex}(n,B_t)}{\sqrt{t}}\leq \frac{1}{2}$, and $\frac{1}{4}\leq \lim_{t\to \infty} \frac{\mathrm{ex}_{bip}(n,B_t)}{\sqrt{t}}\leq \frac{1}{2\sqrt{2}}.$
In the case of $B_2$, we obtain sharper estimates.
We show that the Turán number of $B_2$ is approximately between $(0.518+o(1))n^{\frac{3}{2}}$ and $(0.603+o(1))n^{\frac{3}{2}}$.
And in the bipartite setting, it is approximately between
$(0.385+o(1))n^{\frac{3}{2}}$ and $(0.468+o(1))n^{\frac{3}{2}}$.
Moreover,
in the bipartite setting, we give a more general result, which shows that for every tree $T$ with $t$ edges, the bipartite Turán number of $K_2\mathbin{\square}T$ is at most $\frac{\sqrt{t}}{2\sqrt{2}}(1+o(1))n^{\frac{3}{2}}$.
Forbidding matching as trace in uniform hypergraphs
We say a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ contains a hypergraph $\mathcal{G}$ as trace if there exists a vertex subset $S \subseteq V(\mathcal{H})$ such that $|S| = |V(\mathcal{G})|$ and $\{e \cap S: e \in E(\mathcal{H})\}$ contains $\mathcal{G}$ as a sub-hypergraph. We use $\mathrm{ex}_r(n, \mathrm{Tr}_r(\mathcal{G}))$ to denote the maximum number of hyperedges in an $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices not containing $\mathcal{G}$ as a trace. The study of Turán numbers for traces was initiated by Mubayi and Zhao who studied the case when $\mathcal{G}$ is a complete graph.
Let $M_{s+1}$ denote the graph of a matching with $s+1$ edges. In this paper, we give the upper bound of $\mathrm{ex}_r(n, \mathrm{Tr}_r(M_{s+1}))$ which is sharp asymptotically. When $r=3$, we give the exact value of $\mathrm{ex}_3 (n, \mathrm{Tr}_3 (M_{s+1}))$. We also consider the generalized Turán number in the case of matching. That is, the maximum number of copies of clique $\mathcal{K}_t^r$ in hypergraphs forbidding $\mathrm{Tr}_r (M_{s+1})$ as a trace. We give an upper bound which is sharp asymptotically and when $r=3$, we give the exact value. The Turán number of forbidding a matching and the other graph is another well studied topic initiated by Alon and Frankl. We also consider an analogue problem for the trace version, i.e., forbidding trace of matching and trace of complete graph as subgraphs.
An Upper Bound on the Linear Turán Number of $k$-Crowns
A hypergraph $H$ is said to be \emph{linear} if every pair of vertices lies in at most one hyperedge. Given a family $\mathcal{F}$ of $r$-uniform hypergraphs (also called $r$-graphs), an $r$-graph $H$ is said to be \emph{$\mathcal{F}$-free} if it contains no member of $\mathcal{F}$ as a subhypergraph. The \emph{linear Turán number} $ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,\mathcal{F})$ denotes the maximum number of edges in an $\mathcal{F}$-free linear $r$-graph on $n$ vertices.
The crown is a linear $3$-graph obtained from three pairwise disjoint edges by adding an edge that intersects each of them in a distinct vertex. Recently, Gyárfás, Ruszinkó, and Sárközy~[\emph{Linear Turán numbers of acyclic triple systems}, European J.\ Combin.\ (2022)] initiated the study of bounds on the linear Turán number for acyclic $3$-uniform linear hypergraphs, including that of the crown.
We extend the notion of a crown by defining a $k$-crown, denoted by $C_{1,k}^r$, to be a linear $r$-graph consisting of one base edge together with $k$ pairwise disjoint edges, each intersecting the base in a distinct vertex. In this paper, we establish an upper bound on $ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,C_{1,k}^r)$, which in particular improves the recent bound of Zhang, Broersma, and Wang~[\emph{Generalized Crowns in Linear $r$-Graphs}, Electron.\ J.\ Combin.\ (2025)] for all $r \geq 4$, without forbidding any auxiliary configuration. We also note that the cases $k\in\{1,2\}$ correspond to the short linear paths $P_2^r$ and $P_3^r$, and can be treated separately.
On the connected Turán number of Berge paths and Berge cycles
Given a graph $F$, a Berge copy of $F$ (Berge-$F$ for short) is a hypergraph obtained by enlarging the edges arbitrarily. Győri, Salia and Zamora [\textit{European J. Combin.} 96 (2021) 103353] determined the maximum number of hyperedges in a connected $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices containing no Berge path of length $k-1$ for $k\geq 2r+14$ and sufficiently large $n$, and asked for the minimum $k_0$ such that this extremal number holds for all $k\geq k_0$. In this paper, we prove that the extremal number holds for all $k\geq 2r+2$ and fails for $k\le 2r+1$, thereby completely resolving the problem posed by Gyori, Salia and Zamora. Moreover, we also improve the result of Füredi, Kostochka and Luo [\textit{Electron. J. Comb.} 26(4) (2019) 4--31], who determined the maximum number of hyperedges in a $2$-connected $n$-vertex $r$-uniform hypergraph containing no Berge cycle of length at least $k$ for $k\geq 4r$ and sufficiently large $n$, by showing that this extremal number holds for all $k\geq 2r+2$ and fails for $k\le 2r+1$.
Our approach reduces the Berge-Turán problem to a graph extremal problem, and applies recent work of Ai, Lei, Ning and Shi [\textit{Canad. J. Math.} (2025) 1--27] on the feasibility of graph parameters and the Kelmans operation.
Helly Theorems for Generalized Turán Problems
Given a graph $T$ and a family of graphs $\mathcal{F}$, the generalized Turán number $\mathrm{ex}(n,T,\mathcal{F})$ is the maximum number of copies of $T$ in an $n$-vertex $\mathcal{F}$-free graph. We prove a general theorem which states that for any tree $T$, any family $\mathcal{F}$, and any integer $k$, either $\mathrm{ex}(n,T,\mathcal{F})$ is at least $Ω(n^{k+1})$ or at most $O(\mathrm{ex}(n,\mathcal{F})^{k})$, from which we derive a number of consequences. Our proofs rely on new variants of the classical Helly Theorem for trees which may be of independent interest. As far as we are aware, this is the first known application of Helly theorems for Turán type problems.
Maximum packings in graphs forbidding given rainbow cycles
Motivated by the Ruzsa-Szemerédi problem, Imolay, Karl, Nagy, and Váli studied a variant of Turán number $ex_F(n,G)$ (called the $F$-multicolor Turán number of $G$), defined as the maximum number of edge-disjoint copies of $F$ on $n$-vertex set such that there is no copies of $G$ whose edges come from distinct copies of $F$. They proved that if there is no homomorphism from $G$ to $F$, then $n^2/v(F)^2+o(n^2)\leq ex_F(n,G)\leq ex(n,G)/e(F)+o(n^2)$, and otherwise $ex_F(n,G) = o(n^2)$. The quantity $ex_F(n,G)$ asymptotically equals the maximum size of an $F$-packing in an $n$-vertex $G$-free graph, and attains the upper bound $ex(n,G)/e(F)+o(n^2)$ if and only if $χ(G) > χ(F)$. In this paper, we provide conditions under which $ex_F(n,G)$ does not achieve the lower bound $n^2/v(F)^2 + o(n^2)$, and describe additional graph pairs that attain this lower bound via graph blow-ups. Especially, we proved that $ex_{C_k(s)}(n,C_{k-2})=n^2/(sk)^2+o(n^2)$ for any $k\geq 5$. For degenerate cases, we show that if $χ(F) = 3$ and $G$ and $F$ share the same odd girth, then $ex_F(n,G)$ satisfies the $(6,3)$-type bound $n^{2-o(1)}$, generalizing a result of Kovács and Nagy. We also prove that $ex_{C_{2k+1}}(n,C_{2\ell+1})=O(n^{1+1/(\ell-k+1)})$ for any integers $k,\ell$ with $\ell>k$, extending a result of Füredi and Özkahya.
Additionally, we establish $ex_{C_4}(n,C_4)=\sqrt{2}n^{3/2}/8+O(n)$.
A note on a very abstract chromatic number and extremal problems
The abstract chromatic number was introduced by Razborov and Coregliano in 2020 in using the language of model theory, and was used to extend the Erd\H os-Stone-Simonovits theorem to graphs with extra structures. A purely combinatorial version was introduced by Gerbner, Hama Karim and Kucheriya in 2026, who also showed that in addition to the asymptotic bound on the Turán number, the abstract chromatic number determines the asymptotics of several other Turán-type functions.
We observe that the chromatic number is used here due to its special role in determining the asymptotics of the Turán number. For other extremal functions, other graph parameters may play a similar role and let us extend results in a similar fashion. We prove the appropriate generalizations and show two examples where this happens.
Turán problems for multilinear maps
This paper is concerned with Turán problems for (alternating) multilinear maps, with the aim of determining the maximum dimension $k$, called the isotropy index, for which every such map has an isotropic subspace of dimension $k$. We extend the formula for the isotropy index of alternating bilinear maps [Buhler, Gupta & Harris, J. Algebra, 1987] to alternating multilinear maps of arbitrary order over algebraically closed fields. In particular, this answers an open question posed in [Qiao, Discrete Anal., 2023]. Moreover, we prove that the same formula holds for sufficiently large finite fields. For multilinear maps, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the isotropy index to be at least two. Our results have three implications: (1) For algebraically closed fields, we determine the exact value of the Feldman--Propp number, whose lower bound has been known for over thirty years [Feldman & Propp, Adv. Math., 1992] but whose precise value had remained undetermined. (2) We establish the exact values of both the Turán number and the Gow--Quinlan number for alternating multilinear maps of arbitrary order over algebraically closed fields. Specifically, our result greatly extends the existing formula for the Gow--Quinlan number for alternating bilinear maps [Gow & Quinlan, Linear Multilinear Algebra, 2006]. (3) Bridging the lower bound for the Erdős box problem and tensor analytic rank, we show that there is an obstruction to improving the existing lower bound in [Conlon, Pohoata & Zakharov, Discrete Anal., 2021] via the multilinear method.
The Turán number of Berge paths
A Berge path of length $k$ in an $r$-uniform hypergraph is a collection of $k$ hyperedges $h_1,\dots,h_k$ and $k+1$ vertices $v_1,\dots,v_{k+1}$ such that $v_i, v_{i+1}\in h_i$ for each $1\le i\le k$. Győri, Katona and Lemons [\textit{European J. Combin. 58 (2016) 238--246}] generalized the Erdős-Gallai theorem to Berge paths and established bounds for the Turán number of Berge paths. However, these bounds are sharp only when some divisibility conditions hold. Gy\H ori, Lemons, Salia and Zamora [\textit{J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 148 (2021) 239--250}] determined the exact value of the Turán number of Berge paths in the case $k\le r$. In this paper, we settle the final open case $k>r$, thereby completing the determination of the Turán number of Berge paths.
On the supersaturation of oriented Turán problems
The oriented Turán number of a given oriented graph $\overrightarrow{F}$, denoted by $\exo(n,\overrightarrow{F})$, is the largest number of arcs in $n$-vertex $\overrightarrow{F}$-free oriented graphs. This parameter could be seen as a natural oriented version of the classical Turán number. In this paper, we study the supersaturation phenomenon for oriented Turán problems, and prove oriented versions of the famous Erdős-Simonovits Supersaturation Theorem and Moon-Moser inequality, and supersaturation theorems for transitive tournaments and antidirected complete bipartite graphs.
Turán extremal graphs vs. Signless Laplacian spectral Turán extremal graphs
Let $F$ be a graph with chromatic number $χ(F) = r+1$. Denote by $ex(n, F)$ and $Ex(n, F)$ the Turán number and the set of all extremal graphs for $F$, respectively. In addition, $ex_{ssp}(n, F)$ and $Ex_{ssp}(n, F)$ are the maximum signless Laplacian spectral radius of all $n$-vertex $F$-free graphs and the set of all $n$-vertex $F$-free graphs with signless Laplacian spectral radius $ex_{ssp}(n, F)$, respectively. It is known that $Ex_{ssp}(n, F)\supset Ex(n, F)$ if $F$ is a triangle. In this paper, employing the regularity method and Füredi's stability theorem, we prove that for a given graph $F$ and $r\geqslant 3$, if $ex(n, F) = t_r(n)+O(1)$, then $ Ex_{ssp}(n, F) \subseteq Ex(n, F)$ for sufficiently large $n$, where $t_r(n)$ is the number of edges in the Turán graph $T_r(n)$.
The Turán number of the triangular pyramid of 4-layers
The Turán number $ex(n,H)$ of a graph $H$ is the maximum number of edges in any $H$-free graph on $n$ vertices. The triangular pyramid of $k$-layers, denoted by $TP_k$, is a generalization of a triangle. The Turán problems of a triangular pyramid with small layers have been studied widely by Liu (E-JC, 2013), Xiao, Katona, Xiao and Zamora (DAM, 2022), Ghosh, Győri, Paulos, Xiao and Zamora (DAM, 2022). Moreover, Ghosh et al. conjectured that $ex(n, TP_4)=\frac{1}{4}n^2+Θ(n^{\frac{4}{3}})$. In this note, we confirm this conjecture.
On oriented Turán problems
The oriented Turán number of a given oriented graph $\overrightarrow{F}$, denoted by $\exo(n,\overrightarrow{F})$, is the largest number of arcs in $n$-vertex $\overrightarrow{F}$-free oriented graphs. This concept could be seen as an oriented version of the classical Turán number.
In this paper, we first prove several propositions that give exact results for several oriented graphs. In particular, we determine all exact values of $\exo(n,\overrightarrow{F})$ for every oriented graph $\overrightarrow{F}$ with at most three arcs and sufficiently large $n$. After that, we prove a stability result and use it to determine the Turán number of an orientation of $C_4$. Finally, we prove oriented versions of the random zooming theorem by Fernández, Hyde, Liu, Pikhurko and Wu and the almost regular subgraph theorem by Erdős and Simonovits, and use them to obtain an oriented version of the Füredi-Alon-Krivelevich-Sudakov Theorem, which generalizes the famous KST Theorem.
The linear Turán number of the 3-graph $P_5$
We prove that for any linear 3-graph on $n$ vertices without a path of length 5, the number of edges is at most $\frac{15}{11}n$, and the equality holds if and only if the graph is the disjoint union of $G_0$, a graph with 11 vertices and 15 edges. Thus, $ex_L(n,P_5)\leq \frac{15}{11}n$, and the equality holds if and only if $11|n$.
Bounds on Linear Turán Number for Trees
A hypergraph $H$ is said to be \emph{linear} if every pair of vertices lies in at most one hyperedge. Given a family $\mathcal{F}$ of $r$-uniform hypergraphs, an $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$ is \emph{$\mathcal{F}$-free} if it contains no member of $\mathcal{F}$ as a subhypergraph. The \emph{linear Turán number} $ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,\mathcal{F})$ denotes the maximum number of hyperedges in an $\mathcal{F}$-free linear $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices.
Gyárfás, Ruszinkó, and Sárközy~[\emph{Linear Turán numbers of acyclic triple systems}, European J.\ Combin.\ (2022)] initiated the study of bounds on the linear Turán number for acyclic $3$-uniform linear hypergraphs.
In this paper, we extend the study of linear Turán number for acyclic systems to higher uniformity. We first give a construction for any linear $r$-uniform tree with $k$ edges that yields the lower bound $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,T_k^r)\ge {n(k-1)}/{r}, $ under mild divisibility and existence assumptions. Next, we study hypertrees with four edges. We prove the exact bound $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,B_4^r)\le {(r+1)n}/{r} $ and characterize the extremal hypergraph class, where $B_4^r$ is formed from $S_3^r$ by appending a hyperedge incident to a degree-one vertex. We also prove the bound $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,E_4^r)\le {(2r-1)n}/{r} $ for the crown $E_4^r$. Finally, we give a construction showing $ ex_r^{\mathrm{lin}}(n,P_4^r)\ge {(r+1)n}/{r} $ under suitable assumptions and conclude with a conjecture on sharp upper bound for $P_4^r$.
On generalized Turán problems for expansions
Given a graph $F$, the $r$-expansion $F^r$ of $F$ is the $r$-uniform hypergraph obtained from $F$ by inserting $r-2$ new distinct vertices in each edge of $F$. Given $r$-uniform hypergraphs $\mathcal{H}$ and $\mathcal{F}$, the generalized Turán number, denoted by $\textrm{ex}_r(n,\mathcal{H},\mathcal{F})$, is the maximum number of copies of $\mathcal{H}$ in an $n$-vertex $r$-uniform hypergraph that does not contain $\mathcal{F}$ as a subhypergraph. In the case where $r=2$ (i.e., the graph case), the study of generalized Turán problems was initiated by Alon and Shikhelman [\textit{J. Combin. Theory Series B.} 121 (2016) 146--172]. Motivated by their work, we systematically study generalized Turán problems for expansions and obtain several general and exact results. In particular, for the non-degenerate case, we determine the exact generalized Turán number for expansions of complete graphs, and establish the asymptotics of the generalized Turán number for expansions of the vertex-disjoint union of complete graphs. For the degenerate case, we establish the asymptotics of generalized Turán numbers for expansions of several classes of forests, including star forests, linear forests and star-path forests.
The maximum number of triangles in graphs without the square of a path
The generalized Turán number for $H$ of $G$, denoted by $\ex(n,H,G)$, is the maximum number of copies of $H$ in an $n$-vertex $G$-free graph. When $H$ is an edge, $\ex(n,H,G)$ is the classical Turán number $\ex(n,G)$. Let $P_k$ be the path with $k$ vertices. The square of $P_k$, denoted by $P_k^2$, is obtained by joining the pairs of vertices with distance at most two in $P_k$.
The Turán number of $P_k^2$, $\ex(n, P_k^2)$, was determined by several researchers. When $k=3$, $P_3^2$ is the triangle and $\ex(n, P_3^2)$ is well-known from Mantel's theorem. When $k=4$, $\ex(n, P_4^2)$ was solved by Dirac in a more general context. When $k=5,6$, the problem was solved by Xiao, Katona, Xiao, and Zamora. For general $k \ge 7$, the problem was solved by Yuan in a more general context.
Recently, Mukherjee determined the generalized Turán number $\ex(n, K_3, P_5^2)$. In this paper, we determine the exact value of $\ex(n, K_3, P_6^2)$ and characterize all the extremal graphs for $n \ge 11$.
Forbidding edge-critical graphs as trace in uniform hypergraphs
We say a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ contains a graph $G$ as trace if there exists a vertex subset $S \subseteq V(\mathcal{H})$ such that $|S| = V(G)$ and $\{e \cap S \mid e \in E(\mathcal{H})\}$ contains $G$ as a subgraph.
We use $\mathrm{ex}(n, Tr_r(G))$ to denote the maximum number of edges in an $r$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices not containing $G$ as trace.
The study of Turán numbers for traces was initiated by Mubayi and Zhao~(2017) who studied $\mathrm{ex}(n, Tr_r(K_{s+1}))$ where $K_{s+1}$ is a clique on $s+1$ vertices and conjectured the exact value of $\mathrm{ex}(n, Tr_r(K_{s+1}))$.
When $r \le s$, the conjecture was covered by a result of Pikhurko~(2013) who gave the exact value of Turán numbers for expanded cliques.
Then Gerbner and Picollelli~(2023) gave the exact value for book graphs~($K_{1,1,t}$, the complete tripartite graph with two parts of size one and one part of size $t \ge 2$).
We say $G$ is edge-critical if there exists an edge $e \in E(G)$ such that $χ(G - e) < χ(G)$ where $χ(G)$ is the chromatic number of $G$.
The definition of edge-critical was given by Simonovits~(1974), who proved that for an edge-critical graph $G$ with $χ(G) = s+1 \ge 3$, the Turán graph $T(n,s)$ is the unique extremal graph for $ex(n,G)$ as $n$ is sufficiently large.
In this paper, we further generalize the results of Gerbner and Picollelli~(2023) to edge-critical graphs.
More precisely, we prove that for an edge-critical graph $G$ with $χ(G) = s+1$, when $s \ge r \ge 3$ and $n$ is sufficiently large, the $r$-uniform Turán graph $T_r(n,s)$ is the unique extremal hypergraph.
Bipartite Turán problem on cographs
A cograph is a graph that contains no induced path $P_4$ on four vertices or equivalently a graph that can be constructed from vertices by sum and product operations. We study the bipartite Turán problem restricted to cographs: for fixed integers $s \leq t$, what is the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex cograph that does not contain $K_{s,t}$ as a subgraph? This problem falls within the framework of induced Turán numbers $\text{ex}(n, \{K_{s,t}, P_4\text{-ind}\})$ introduced by Loh, Tait, Timmons, and Zhou.
Our main result is a Pumping Theorem: for every $s\le t$ there exists a period $R$ and core cographs such that for all sufficiently large $n$ an extremal cograph is obtained by repeatedly pumping one designated pumping component inside the appropriate core (depending on $n\bmod R$). We determine the linear coefficient of $\text{ex}(n, \{K_{s,t}, P_4\text{-ind}\})$ to be $s-1 + \frac{t-1}{2}$. Moreover, the pumping components are $(t-1)$-regular and have $s-1$ common neighbours in the respecitve core graphs, giving the extremal cographs a particularly rigid extremal star-like shape.
Motivated by the rarity of complete classification of extremal configurations, we completely classify all $K_{3,3}$-free extremal cographs by proof. We also develop a dynamic programming algorithm for enumerating extremal cographs for small $n$.
More on spectral supersaturation for the bowtie
A central topic in extremal graph theory is the supersaturation problem, which studies the minimum number of copies of a fixed substructure that must appear in any graph with more edges than the corresponding Turán number. Significant works due to Erdős, Rademacher, Lovász and Simonovits investigated the supersaturation problem for the triangle. Moreover, Kang, Makai and Pikhurko studied the case for the bowtie, which consists of two triangles sharing a vertex. Building upon the pivotal results established by Bollobás, Nikiforov, Ning and Zhai on counting triangles via the spectral radius, we study in this paper the spectral supersaturation problem for the bowtie. Let $λ(G)$ be the spectral radius of a graph $G$, and let $K_{\lceil \frac{n}{2}\rceil, \lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor}^q$ be the graph obtained from Turán graph $T_{n,2}$ by adding $q$ pairwise disjoint edges to the partite set of size $\lceil \frac{n}{2}\rceil$. Firstly, we prove that there exists an absolute constant $δ>0$ such that if $n$ is sufficiently large, $2\le q \le δ\sqrt{n}$, and $G$ is an $n$-vertex graph with $λ(G)\ge λ(K_{\lceil \frac{n}{2}\rceil, \lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor}^q)$, then $G$ contains at least ${q\choose 2}\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor$ bowties, and $K_{\lceil \frac{n}{2}\rceil, \lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor}^q$ is the unique spectral extremal graph. This solves an open problem proposed by Li, Feng and Peng. Secondly, we show that a graph $G$ whose spectral radius exceeds that of the spectral extremal graph for the bowtie must contain at least $\lfloor \frac{n-1}{2}\rfloor$ bowties. This sharp bound reveals a distinct phenomenon from the edge-supersaturation case, which guarantees at least $\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor$ bowties.
