Stack-sorting simplices: geometry and lattice-point enumeration
We initiate the study of subpolytopes of the permutahedron that arise as the convex hulls of stack-sorting on permutations. We primarily focus on $Ln1$ permutations, i.e., permutations of length $n$ whose penultimate and last entries are $n$ and $1$, respectively. First, we present some enumerative results on $Ln1$ permutations. Then we show that the polytopes that arise from stack-sorting on $Ln1$ permutations are simplices and proceed to study their geometry and lattice-point enumeration. In addition, we pose questions and problems for further investigation. Particular focus is then taken on the $Ln1$ permutation $23\cdots n1$. We show that the convex hull of all its iterations through the stack-sorting algorithm shares the same lattice-point enumerator as that of the $(n-1)$-dimensional unit cube and lecture-hall simplex. Lastly, we detail some results on the real lattice-point enumerator for variations of the simplices arising from stack-sorting on the permutation $23\cdots n1$. This then allows us to show that those simplices are Gorenstein of index $2$.

In the present paper, we revisit the geometry of smooth plane quartics and their bitangents from several perspectives. First, we study in detail the weak combinatorics of arrangements of bitangents associated with highly symmetric quartic curves. We consider quartic curves from the point of view of the order of their automorphism groups, in order to establish a lower bound on the number of quadruple intersection points for arrangements of bitangents associated with smooth plane quartics, which are smooth members of Ciani's pencil. We then construct new examples of $3$-syzygy reduced plane curves using smooth plane quartics and their bitangents.
The seating couple problem in even case

In this paper we consider the seating couple problem with an even number of seats, which, using graph theory terminology, can be stated as follows. Given a positive even integer $v=2n$ and a list $L$ containing $n$ positive integers not exceeding $n$, is it always possible to find a perfect matching of $K_v$ whose list of edge-lengths is $L$? Up to now a (non-constructive) solution is known only when all the edge-lengths are coprime with $v$. In this paper we firstly present some necessary conditions for the existence of a solution. Then, we give a complete constructive solution when the list consists of one or two distinct elements, and when the list consists of consecutive integers $1,2,\ldots,x$, each one appearing with the same multiplicity. Finally, we propose a conjecture and some open problems.
Canonically Jordan recoverable categories for modules over the path algebra of $A_n$ type quivers
Let $Q$ be a quiver of $A_n$ type and $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field. A nilpotent endomorphism of a quiver representation induces a linear transformation of the vector space at each vertex. Generically among all nilpotent endomorphisms of a fixed representation $X$, there exists a well-defined Jordan form of each of these linear transformations $\operatorname{GenJF}(X)$, called the generic Jordan form data of $X$. A subcategory of $\operatorname{rep}(Q)$ is Jordan recoverable if we can recover $X$ up to isomorphism from its generic Jordan form data.
There is a procedure which allows one to invert the map from representations to generic Jordan form data. The subcategories for which this procedure works are called canonically Jordan recoverable. We focus on the subcategories of $\operatorname{rep}(Q)$ that are canonically Jordan recoverable, and we give a combinatorial characterization of them.
On size Ramsey numbers for a pair of cycles
We show that there exists an absolute constant $A$ such that the size Ramsey number of a pair of cycles $(C_n$, $C_{2d})$, where $4\le 2d\le n$, is bounded from above by $An$. We also study the restricted size Ramsey number for such a pair.

The collection of reflecting hyperplanes of a finite Coxeter group is called a reflection arrangement and it appears in many subareas of combinatorics and representation theory. We focus on the problem of counting regions of reflection arrangements and their deformations. Inspired by the recent work of Bernardi, we show that the notion of moves and sketches can be used to provide a uniform and explicit bijection between regions of (the Catalan deformation of) a reflection arrangement and certain non-nesting partitions. We then use the exponential formula to describe a statistic on these partitions such that distribution is given by the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial. Finally, we consider a sub-arrangement of type C arrangement called the threshold arrangement and its Catalan and Shi deformations.

We raise the question of the realizability of permutation modules in the context of Kahn's realizability problem for abstract groups and the $G$-Moore space problem. Specifically, given a finite group $G$, we consider a collection $\{M_i\}_{i=1}^n$ of finitely generated $\Z G$-modules that admit a submodule decomposition on which $G$ acts by permuting the summands. Then we prove the existence of connected finite spaces $X$ that realize each $M_i$ as its $i$-th homology, $G$ as its group of self-homotopy equivalences $\E(X)$, and the action of $G$ on each $M_i$ as the action of $\E(X)$ on $H_i(X; \Z)$.
Distance-regular graphs with classical parameters that support a uniform structure: case $q \ge 2$
Let $Γ=(X,\mathcal{R})$ denote a finite, simple, connected, and undirected non-bipartite graph with vertex set $X$ and edge set $\mathcal{R}$. Fix a vertex $x \in X$, and define $\mathcal{R}_f = \mathcal{R} \setminus \{yz \mid \partial(x,y) = \partial(x,z)\}$, where $\partial$ denotes the path-length distance in $Γ$. Observe that the graph $Γ_f=(X,\mathcal{R}_f)$ is bipartite. We say that $Γ$ supports a uniform structure with respect to $x$ whenever $Γ_f$ has a uniform structure with respect to $x$ in the sense of Miklavič and Terwilliger \cite{MikTer}.
Assume that $Γ$ is a distance-regular graph with classical parameters $(D,q,α,β)$ and diameter $D\geq 4$. Recall that $q$ is an integer such that $q \not \in \{-1,0\}$. The purpose of this paper is to study when $Γ$ supports a uniform structure with respect to $x$. We studied the case $q \le 1$ in \cite{FMMM}, and so in this paper we assume $q \geq 2$. Let $T=T(x)$ denote the Terwilliger algebra of $Γ$ with respect to $x$. Under an additional assumption that every irreducible $T$-module with endpoint $1$ is thin, we show that if $Γ$ supports a uniform structure with respect to $x$, then either $α= 0$ or $α=q$, $β=q^2(q^D-1)/(q-1)$, and $D \equiv 0 \pmod{6}$.

A graph is called an $(r,k)$-graph if its vertex set can be partitioned into $r$ parts, each having at most $k$ vertices and there is at least one edge between any two parts. Let $f(r,H)$ be the minimum $k$ for which there exists an $H$-free $(r,k)$-graph. In this paper we build on the work of Axenovich and Martin, obtaining improved bounds on this function when $H$ is a complete bipartite graph or an even cycle. Some of these bounds are best possible up to a constant factor and confirm a conjecture of Axenovich and Martin in several cases.
Real-rootedness of the type A minuscule polynomials
We prove two recent conjectures of Bourn and Erickson (2023) regarding the real-rootedness of a certain family of polynomials $N_n(t)$ as well as the sum of their coefficients. These polynomials arise as the numerators of generating functions in the context of the discrete one-dimensional earth mover's distance (EMD) and have also connection to the Wiener index of minuscule lattices. We also prove that the coefficients of $N_n(x)$ are asymptotically normal, the coefficient matrix of $N_n(x)$ is totally positive and the polynomial sequence $N_n(x)$'s is $x$-log-concave.
Towards the Overfull Conjecture

Let $G$ be a simple graph with maximum degree denoted as $Δ(G)$. An overfull subgraph $H$ of $G$ is a subgraph satisfying the condition $|E(H)| > Δ(G)\lfloor \frac{1}{2}|V(H)| \rfloor$. In 1986, Chetwynd and Hilton proposed the Overfull Conjecture, stating that a graph $G$ with maximum degree $Δ(G)> \frac{1}{3}|V(G)|$ has chromatic index equal to $Δ(G)$ if and only if it does not contain any overfull subgraph. The Overfull Conjecture has many implications. For example, it implies a polynomial-time algorithm for determining the chromatic index of graphs $G$ with $Δ(G) > \frac{1}{3}|V(G)|$, and implies several longstanding conjectures in the area of graph edge colorings. In this paper, we make the first breakthrough towards the conjecture when not imposing a minimum degree condition on the graph: for any $0<\varepsilon \le \frac{1}{14}$, there exists a positive integer $n_0$ such that if $G$ is a graph on $n\ge n_0$ vertices with $Δ(G) \ge (1-\varepsilon)n$, then the Overfull Conjecture holds for $G$. The previous best result in this direction, due to Chetwynd and Hilton from 1989, asserts the conjecture for graphs $G$ with $Δ(G) \ge |V(G)|-3$. Our result also implies the Average Degree Conjecture of Vizing from 1968 for the same class of graphs $G$.
Pseudofinite proofs of the stable graph regularity lemma

This expository article is based on two lectures given by the first author at the Fields Institute in the Fall 2021 Thematic Program on Trends in Pure and Applied Model Theory.
We give a detailed proof of a qualitative version of the Mallaris-Shelah regularity lemma for stable graphs using only basic local stability theory and an ultraproduct construction. This proof strategy was first established by Malliaris and Pillay, and later simplified by Pillay. We provide some further simplifications, and also explain how the pseudofinite approach can be used to obtain a qualitative strengthening (compared to previous proofs) in terms of "functional error". To illustrate the extra leverage obtained by functional error, we give an elementary argument for extracting equipartitions from arbitrary partitions.

A $k$-limited packing partition ($k$LP partition) of a graph $G$ is a partition of $V(G)$ into $k$-limited packing sets. We consider the $k$LP partitions with minimum cardinality (with emphasis on $k=2$). The minimum cardinality is called $k$LP partition number of $G$ and denoted by $χ_{\times k}(G)$. This problem is the dual problem of $k$-tuple domatic partitioning as well as a generalization of the well-studied $2$-distance coloring problem in graphs.
We give the exact value of $χ_{\times2}$ for trees and bound it for general graphs. A section of this paper is devoted to the dual of this problem, where we give a solution to an open problem posed in $1998$. We also revisit the total limited packing number in this paper and prove that the problem of computing this parameter is NP-hard even for some special families of graphs. We give some inequalities concerning this parameter and discuss the difference between $2$TLP number and $2$LP number with emphasis on trees.
The degrees of the orientation-preserving automorphism groups of toroidal maps and hypermaps

This paper is an exploration of the faithful transitive permutation representations of the orientation-preserving automorphisms groups of highly symmetric toroidal maps and hypermaps. The main theorems of this paper give a list of all possible degrees of these specific groups. This extends prior accomplishments of the authors, wherein their focus was confined to the study of the automorphisms groups of toroidal regular maps and hypermaps.
In addition the authors bring out the recently developed {\sc GAP} package {\sc corefreesub} that can be used to find faithful transitive permutation representations of any group. With the aid of this powerful tool, the authors show how Schreier coset graphs of the automorphism groups of toroidal maps and hypermaps can be easily constructed.
Stress-linked pairs of vertices and the generic stress matroid
Given a graph $G$ and a mapping $p : V(G) \to \mathbb{R}^d$, we say that the pair $(G,p)$ is a ($d$-dimensional) realization of $G$. Two realizations $(G,p)$ and $(G,q)$ are equivalent if each of the point pairs corresponding to the edges of $G$ have the same distance under the embeddings $p$ and $q$. A pair of vertices $\{u,v\}$ is globally linked in $G$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ if for every generic realization $(G,p)$ and every equivalent realization $(G,q)$, $(G+uv,p)$ and $(G+uv,q)$ are also equivalent.
In this paper, we introduce and investigate the notion of $d$-stress-linked vertex pairs. Roughly speaking, a pair of vertices $\{u,v\}$ is $d$-stress-linked in $G$ if the edge $uv$ is generically stressed in $G+uv$ and for every generic $d$-dimensional realization $(G,p)$, every configuration $q$ that satisfies the equilibrium stresses of $(G,p)$ also satisfies the equilibrium stresses of $(G+uv,p)$. Among other results, we show that $d$-stress-linked vertex pairs are globally linked in $\mathbb{R}^d$, and we give a combinatorial characterization of $2$-stress-linked vertex pairs that matches the conjectural characterization of globally linked pairs in $\mathbb{R}^2$ due to Jackson et al.
As a key tool, we introduce and study the ``algebraic dual'' of the $d$-dimensional generic rigidity matroid of a graph $G$, which we call the $d$-dimensional generic stress matroid of $G$. Our results about this matroid, which describes the global behavior of equilibrium stresses of generic realizations of $G$, may be of independent interest.
We use our results to give positive answers to a conjecture of Jordán on minimally globally rigid graphs, a conjecture of Jordán and the author on globally linked vertex pairs, and to conjectures of Connelly and Grasegger et al. on rigidity properties of graphs with small separators.

We observe that an old theorem of Graham implies that for any positive integer $s$, there exists some positive integer $T(s)$ such that every $s$-colouring of $\mathbb{Z}^2$ contains a monochromatic pair of points $(x,y),(x',y')$ with $(x-x')^2 - (y-y')^2 = (T(s))^2$. By scaling, this implies that every finite colouring of $\mathbb{Q}^2$ contains a monochromatic pair of points $(x,y),(x',y')$ with $(x-x')^2 - (y-y')^2 = 1$, which answers in a strong sense a problem of Kosheleva and Kreinovich on a pseudo-Euclidean analogue of the Hadwiger-Nelson problem.
The proof of Graham's theorem relies on repeated applications of van der Waerden's theorem, and so the resulting function $T(s)$ grows extremely quickly. We give an alternative proof in the weaker setting of having a second spacial dimension that results in a significantly improved bound. To be more precise, we prove that for every positive integer $s$ with $r\equiv 2 \pmod{4}$, every $s$-colouring of $\mathbb{Z}^3$ contains a monochromatic pair of points $(x,y,z),(x',y',z')$ such that $(x-x')^2 + (y-y')^2 - (z-z')^2 = (5^{(s-2)/4}(8\cdot 5^{(s-2)/2})!)^2$. In fact, we prove a stronger density version. The density version in $\mathbb{Z}^2$ remains open.
Erd\H os--Ko--Rado type results for partitions via spread approximations

In this paper, we address several Erd\H os--Ko--Rado type questions for families of partitions. Two partitions of $[n]$ are {\it $t$-intersecting} if they share at least $t$ parts, and are {\it partially $t$-intersecting} if some of their parts intersect in at least $t$ elements. The question of what is the largest family of pairwise $t$-intersecting partitions was studied for several classes of partitions: Peter Erd\H os and Székely studied partitions of $[n]$ into $\ell$ parts of unrestricted size; Ku and Renshaw studied unrestricted partitions of $[n]$; Meagher and Moura, and then Godsil and Meagher studied partitions into $\ell$ parts of equal size. We improve and generalize the results proved by these authors. Meagher and Moura, following the work of Erd\H os and Székely, introduced the notion of partially $t$-intersecting partitions, and conjectured, what should be the largest partially $t$-intersecting family of partitions into $\ell$ parts of equal size $k$. The main result of this paper is the proof of their conjecture for all $t, k$, provided $\ell$ is sufficiently large. All our results are applications of the spread approximation technique, introduced by Zakharov and the author. In order to use it, we need to refine some of the theorems from the original paper. As a byproduct, this makes the present paper a self-contained presentation of the spread approximation technique for $t$-intersecting problems.
Conformal Hypergraphs: Duality and Implications for the Upper Clique Transversal Problem

Given a hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$, the dual hypergraph of $\mathcal{H}$ is the hypergraph of all minimal transversals of $\mathcal{H}$. The dual hypergraph is always Sperner, that is, no hyperedge contains another. A special case of Sperner hypergraphs are the conformal Sperner hypergraphs, which correspond to the families of maximal cliques of graphs. All these notions play an important role in many fields of mathematics and computer science, including combinatorics, algebra, database theory, etc. In this paper we study conformality of dual hypergraphs and prove several results related to the problem of recognizing this property. In particular, we show that the problem is in co-NP and can be solved in polynomial time for hypergraphs of bounded dimension. In the special case of dimension $3$, we reduce the problem to $2$-Satisfiability. Our approach has an implication in algorithmic graph theory: we obtain a polynomial-time algorithm for recognizing graphs in which all minimal transversals of maximal cliques have size at most $k$, for any fixed $k$.

Given a (simple) grid polygon $P$ in a grid of equilateral triangles, Defant and Jiradilok considered a billiards system where beams of light bounce around inside of $P$. We study the relationship between the perimeter $\operatorname{perim}(P)$ of $P$ and the number of different trajectories $\operatorname{cyc}(P)$ that the billiards system has. Resolving a conjecture of Defant and Jiradilok, we prove the sharp inequality $\operatorname{cyc}(P) \leq (\operatorname{perim}(P) + 2)/4$ and characterize the equality cases.
Random Translates in Minkowski Sums
Suppose that $A$ and $B$ are sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$, and we form the sumset of $A$ with $n$ random points of $B$. Given the volumes of $A$ and $B$, how should we choose them to minimize the expected volume of this sumset? Our aim in this paper is to show that we should take $A$ and $B$ to be Euclidean balls. We also consider the analogous question in the torus $\mathbb{T}^d$, and we show that in this case the optimal choices of $A$ and $B$ are bands, in other words, sets of the form $[x,y]\times\mathbb{T}^{d-1}$. We also give stability versions of our results.
