A note on the Turán number of disjoint union of wheels

The Turán number of a graph $H$, $\text{ex}(n,H)$, is the maximum number of edges in a graph on $n$ vertices which does not have $H$ as a subgraph. A wheel $W_n$ is an $n$-vertex graph formed by connecting a single vertex to all vertices of a cycle $C_{n-1}$. Let $mW_{2k+1}$ denote the $m$ vertex-disjoint copies of $W_{2k+1}$. For sufficiently large $n$, we determine the Turán number and all extremal graphs for $mW_{2k+1}$. We also provide the Turán number and all extremal graphs for $W^{h}:=\bigcup\limits^m_{i=1}W_{k_i}$ when $n$ is sufficiently large, where the number of even wheels is $h$ and $h>0$.
Auto-correlation functions of Sato-Tate distributions and identities of symplectic characters

The Sato-Tate distributions for genus 2 curves (conjecturally) describe the statistics of numbers of rational points on the curves. In this paper, we explicitly compute the auto-correlation functions of Sato-Tate distributions for genus 2 curves as sums of irreducible characters of symplectic groups. Our computations bring about families of identities involving irreducible characters of symplectic groups $Sp(2m)$ for all $m \in \mathbb Z_{\ge 1}$, which have interest in their own rights.

We consider the Norton algebra associated with a $Q$-polynomial primitive idempotent of the adjacency matrix for a distance-regular graph. We obtain a formula for the Norton algebra product that we find attractive.
On complicial homotopy monoids
For a Kan complex with a vertex, we have the notion of its simplicial homotopy groups. In this paper, for a weak complicial set in the sense of Verity with a vertex, we construct monoids which are a generalization of simplicial homotopy groups.
Regular sets in Cayley graphs

In a graph $Γ$ with vertex set $V$, a subset $C$ of $V$ is called an $(a,b)$-perfect set if every vertex in $C$ has exactly $a$ neighbors in $C$ and every vertex in $V\setminus C$ has exactly $b$ neighbors in $C$, where $a$ and $b$ are nonnegative integers. In the literature $(0,1)$-perfect sets are known as perfect codes and $(1,1)$-perfect sets are known as total perfect codes. In this paper we prove that, for any finite group $G$, if a non-trivial normal subgroup $H$ of $G$ is a perfect code in some Cayley graph of $G$, then it is also an $(a,b)$-perfect set in some Cayley graph of $G$ for any pair of integers $a$ and $b$ with $0\leqslant a\leqslant|H|-1$ and $0\leqslant b\leqslant |H|$ such that $\gcd(2,|H|-1)$ divides $a$. A similar result involving total perfect codes is also proved in the paper.
A note on dense bipartite induced subgraphs
This exposition contains a short and streamlined proof of the recent result of Kwan, Letzter, Sudakov and Tran that every triangle-free graph with minimum degree $d$ contains an induced bipartite subgraph with average degree $Ω(\ln d/\ln\ln d)$.
Characterising Clifford parallelisms among Clifford-like parallelisms

We recall the notions of Clifford and Clifford-like parallelisms in a $3$-dimensional projective double space. In a previous paper the authors proved that the linear part of the full automorphism group of a Clifford parallelism is the same for all Clifford-like parallelisms which can be associated to it. In this paper, instead, we study the action of such group on parallel classes thus achieving our main results on characterisation of the Clifford parallelisms among Clifford-like ones.
Non-Noetherian representation categories of generalized fields
In this paper, we show that the categories of finitely generated projective $\mathbb{B}$-modules and $\mathbb{F}_\infty$-modules with morphisms being (splittable) injections are not locally Noetherian. This provides another instance of the fact that these generalized fields have strange homological behavior.
A note on the growth of the dimension in complete simple games

The remoteness from a simple game to a weighted game can be measured by the concept of the dimension or the more general Boolean dimension. It is known that both notions can be exponential in the number of voters. For complete simple games it was only recently shown that the dimension can also be exponential. Here we show that this is also the case for complete simple games with two types of voters and for the Boolean dimension of general complete simple games, which was posed as an open problem.
On the Colin de Verdiere graph number and penny graphs

The Colin de Verdiere number of graph G, denoted by μ(G), is a spectral invariant of G that is related to some of its topological properties. For example, μ(G) \leq 3 iff G is planar. A penny graph is the contact graph of equal-radii disks with disjoint interiors in the plane. In this note we prove lower bounds on μ(G) when the complement \bar{G} is a penny graph.
A geometric characterisation of subvarieties of the standard E_6-variety related to the ternions, degenerate split quaternions and sextonions over arbitrary fields
The main achievement of this paper is a geometric characterisation of certain subvarieties of the Cartan variety (the standard projective variety associated to the split exceptional group of Lie type E_6) over an arbitrary field K. The characterised varieties arise as Veronese representations of certain ring projective planes over quadratic subalgebras of the split octonions over K (among which the sextonions, a 6-dimensional non-associative algebra). We describe how these varieties are linked to the Freudenthal-Tits magic square, and discuss how they would even fit in, when also allowing the sextonions and other "degenerate composition algebras" as the algebras used to construct the square.
On The Log-Concavity of Polygonal Figurate Number Sequences
This paper presents the log-concavity of the $m$-gonal figurate number sequences. The author gives and proves the recurrence formula for $m$-gonal figurate number sequences and its corresponding quotient sequences which are found to be bounded. Finally, the author also show that for $m\geq 3$, the sequence $\big \{S_n(m)\big\}_{n\geq 1}$ of $m$-gonal figurate numbers is a log-concave.
Covers of generalized quadrangles, 2. Kantor-Knuth covers and embedded ovoids

In this paper, which is a sequel to \cite{part1}, we proceed with our study of covers and decomposition laws for geometries related to generalized quadrangles. In particular, we obtain a higher decomposition law for all Kantor-Knuth generalized quadrangles which generalizes one of the main results in \cite{part1}. In a second part of the paper, we study the set of all Kantor-Knuth ovoids (with given parameter) in a fixed finite parabolic quadrangle, and relate this set to embeddings of parabolic quadrangles into Kantor-Knuth quadrangles. This point of view gives rise to an answer of a question posed in \cite{JATSEP}.
Two questions of Moorhouse on indiscernible locally finite generalized quadrangles
We settle two questions posed by G. Eric Moorhouse on the existence of locally finite generalized quadrangles with indiscernible ovoids or spreads.

In this paper we prove the Random Van der Waerden Theorem: For $q_1 \geq q_2 \geq \dotsb \geq q_r \geq 3 \in \mathbb{N}$ there exist $c,C >0$ such that \[ \lim_{n \to \infty} \mathbb{P}([n]_p \rightarrow (q_1,\dotsc, q_r)) = \begin{cases} 1 & \text{if } p \geq C \cdot n^{-\frac{q_2}{q_1(q_2-1)}}, 0 & \text{if } p \leq c \cdot n^{-\frac{q_2}{q_1(q_2-1)}}, \end{cases}\] extending the results of Rödl and Ruciński for the symmetric case $q_i = q$. The proof for the 1-statement is based on the Hypergraph Container Method by Balogh, Morris and Samotij and Saxton and Thomason. The proof for the 0-statement is an extension of Rödl and Ruciński's argument for the symmetric case.
Designing Stable Elections: A Survey

We survey the design of elections that are resilient to attempted interference by third parties. For example, suppose votes have been cast in an election between two candidates, and then each vote is randomly changed with a small probability, independently of the other votes. It is desirable to keep the outcome of the election the same, regardless of the changes to the votes. It is well known that the US electoral college system is about 5 times more likely to have a changed outcome due to vote corruption, when compared to a majority vote. In fact, Mossel, O'Donnell and Oleszkiewicz proved in 2005 that the majority voting method is most stable to this random vote corruption, among voting methods where each person has a small influence on the election. We discuss some recent progress on the analogous result for elections between more than two candidates. In this case, plurality should be most stable to corruption in votes. We also survey results on adversarial election manipulation (where an adversary can select particular votes to change, perhaps in a non-random way), and we briefly discuss ranked choice voting methods (where a vote is a ranked list of candidates).
The Max k-Cut Game: On Stable Optimal Colorings

We study the max k-cut game on an undirected and unweighted graph in order to find out whether an optimal solution is also a strong equilibrium. While we do fail to show that, by proving an alternate formula for computing the cut value difference for a strong deviation, we show that optimal solutions are 7-stable equilibria.
Furthermore, we prove some properties of minimal subsets with respect to a strong deviation, showing that each of their nodes will deviate towards the color of one of their neighbors and that those subsets induce connected subgraphs.
On the largest real root of the independence polynomial of a unicyclic graph

The independence polynomial of a graph $G$, denoted $I(G,x)$, is the generating polynomial for the number of independent sets of each size. The roots of $I(G,x)$ are called the \textit{independence roots} of $G$. It is known that for every graph $G$, the independence root of smallest modulus, denoted $ξ(G)$, is real. The relation $\preceq$ on the set of all graphs is defined as follows, $H\preceq G$ if and only if $I(H,x)\ge I(G,x)\text{ for all }x\in [ξ(G),0].$
We find the maximum and minimum connected unicyclic and connected well-covered unicyclic graphs of a given order with respect to $\preceq$. This extends 2013 work by Csikvári where the maximum and minimum trees of a given order were determined and also answers an open question posed in the same work. Corollaries of our results give the graphs that minimize and maximize $ξ(G)$ among all connected (well-covered) unicyclic graphs. We also answer more related open questions posed by Oboudi in 2018 and disprove a conjecture due to Levit and Mandrescu from 2008.
On the Complex Asymptotics of the HCIZ and BGW Integrals
In this paper, we prove a longstanding conjecture on the asymptotic behavior of a pair of oscillatory matrix integrals: the Harish-Chandra/Itzykson-Zuber (HCIZ) integral, and the Brezin-Gross-Witten (BGW) integral. The main result gives a complete asymptotic expansion of these integrals for small complex parameters. The coefficients of these asymptotic expansions are generating functions for monotone Hurwitz numbers sorted by genus.

The study of pattern avoidance in inversion sequences recently attracts extensive research interests. In particular, Zhicong Lin and Jun Ma conjectured a formula that counts the number of inversion sequences avoiding the pattern $0012$. We will not only confirm this conjecture but also give a formula that enumerates the number of $0012$-avoiding inversion sequences in which the last entry equals $n-1$.
