An $(n,d,λ)$-graph is a $d$ regular graph on $n$ vertices in which the absolute value of any nontrivial eigenvalue is at most $λ$. For any constant $d \geq 3$, $ε>0$ and all sufficiently large $n$ we show that there is a deterministic poly(n) time algorithm that outputs an $(n,d, λ)$-graph (on exactly $n$ vertices) with $λ\leq 2 \sqrt{d-1}+ε$. For any $d=p+2$ with $p \equiv 1 \bmod 4$ prime and all sufficiently large $n$, we describe a strongly explicit construction of an $(n,d, λ)$-graph (on exactly $n$ vertices) with $λ\leq \sqrt {2(d-1)} + \sqrt{d-2} +o(1) (< (1+\sqrt 2) \sqrt {d-1}+o(1))$, with the $o(1)$ term tending to $0$ as $n$ tends to infinity. For every $ε>0$, $d>d_0(ε)$ and $n>n_0(d,ε)$ we present a strongly explicit construction of an $(m,d,λ)$-graph with $λ< (2+ε) \sqrt d$ and $m=n+o(n)$. All constructions are obtained by starting with known ones of Ramanujan or nearly Ramanujan graphs, modifying or packing them in an appropriate way. The spectral analysis relies on the delocalization of eigenvectors of regular graphs in cycle-free neighborhoods.

Spectral sparsification is a technique that is used to reduce the number of non-zero entries in a positive semidefinite matrix with little changes to its spectrum. In particular, the main application of spectral sparsification is to construct sparse graphs whose spectra are close to a given dense graph. We study spectral sparsification under the assumption that the edges of a graph are allocated among sites which can communicate among each other. In this work we show that if a graph is allocated among several sites, the union of the spectral sparsifiers of each induced subgraph give us an spectral sparsifier of the original graph. In contrast to other works in the literature, we present precise computations of the approximation factor of the union of spectral sparsifiers and give an explicit calculation of the edge weights. Then we present an application of this result to data clustering in the Number-On-Forehead model of multiparty communication complexity when input data is allocated as a sunflower among sites in the party.
Pattern avoiding permutations and involutions with a unique longest increasing subsequence
We investigate permutations and involutions that avoid a pattern of length three and have a {\em unique} longest increasing subsequence.
Determinant Identities for Toeplitz-Hessenberg Matrices with Tribonacci Number Entries
In this paper, we evaluate determinants of some families of Toeplitz-Hessenberg matrices having tribonacci number entries. These determinant formulas may also be expressed equivalently as identities that involve sums of products of multinomial coefficients and tribonacci numbers. In particular, we establish a connection between the tribonacci and the Fibonacci and Padovan sequences via Toeplitz-Hessenberg determinants. We then obtain, by combinatorial arguments, extensions of our determinant formulas in terms of generalized tribonacci sequences satisfying an r-th order recurrence of a more general form with the appropriate initial conditions, where r>2 is arbitrary.

The Frobenius characteristic of $Lie_n,$ the representation of the symmetric group $S_n$ afforded by the multilinear component of the free Lie algebra, is known to satisfy many interesting plethystic identities. In this paper we prove a conjecture of Richard Stanley establishing the plethystic inverse of the sum $\sum_{n\geq 0} Lie_{2n+1}$ of the odd Lie characteristics. We obtain an apparently new plethystic decomposition of the regular representation of $S_n$ in terms of irreducibles indexed by hooks, and the Lie representations. We determine the plethystic inverse of the alternating sum of the odd Lie characteristics.

By measuring second occurring times of factors of an infinite word $x$, Bugeaud and Kim introduced a new quantity ${\rm rep}(x)$ called the exponent of repetition of $x$. It was proved by Bugeaud and Kim that $1 \leq {\rm rep}(x) \leq r_{\max} = \sqrt{10} - 3/2$ if $x$ is a Sturmian words. In this paper, we determine the value $r_1$ such that there is no Sturmian word $x$ satisfying $r_1 < {\rm rep}(x) < r_{\max}$ and $r_1$ is an accumulation point of the set of ${\rm rep}(x)$ when $x$ runs over the Sturmian words.

Algorithmic decidability is established for two order-theoretic properties of downward closed subsets defined by finitely many obstructions in two infinite posets. The properties under consideration are: (a) being atomic, i.e. not being decomposable as a union of two downward closed proper subsets, or, equivalently, satisfying the joint embedding property; and (b) being well quasi-ordered. The two posets are: (1) words over a finite alphabet under the consecutive subword ordering; and (2) finite permutations under the consecutive subpermutation ordering. Underpinning the four results are characterisations of atomicity and well quasi-order for the subpath ordering on paths of a finite directed graph.

We study the popular randomized rumour spreading protocol Push. Initially, a node in a graph possesses some information, which is then spread in a round based manner. In each round, each informed node chooses uniformly at random one of its neighbours and passes the information to it. The central quantity to investigate is the Runtime, that is, the number of rounds needed until every node has received the information.
The Push protocol and variations of it have been studied extensively. Here we study the case where the underlying graph is complete with $n$ nodes. Even in this most basic setting, specifying the limiting distribution of the runtime as well as determining related quantities, like its expectation, have remained open problems since the protocol was introduced.
In our main result we describe the limiting distribution of the runtime. We show that it does not converge, and that it becomes, after the appropriate normalization, asymptotically periodic both on the $\log_2n$ as well as on the $\ln n$ scale. In particular, the limiting distribution converges only if we restrict ourselves to suitable subsequences of $\mathbb N$, where simultaneously $\log_2 n-\lfloor\log_2n\rfloor\to x$ and $\ln n-\lfloor\ln n\rfloor\to y$ for some fixed $x,y\in [0,1)$. On such subsequences we show that the expected runtime is $\log_2 n+\ln n+h(x,y)+o(1)$, where $h$ is explicitly given and numerically $|\sup h - \inf h| \approx 2\cdot 10^{-4}$.

An equitable partition into branchings in a digraph is a partition of the arc set into branchings such that the sizes of any two branchings differ at most by one. For a digraph whose arc set can be partitioned into $k$ branchings, there always exists an equitable partition into $k$ branchings. In this paper, we present two extensions of equitable partitions into branchings in digraphs: those into matching forests in mixed graphs; and into $b$-branchings in digraphs. For matching forests, Király and Yokoi (2022) considered a tricriteria equitability based on the sizes of the matching forest, and the matching and branching therein. In contrast to this, we introduce a single-criterion equitability based on the number of covered vertices, which is plausible in the light of the delta-matroid structure of matching forests. While the existence of this equitable partition can be derived from a lemma in Király and Yokoi, we present its direct and simpler proof. For $b$-branchings, we define an equitability notion based on the size of the $b$-branching and the indegrees of all vertices, and prove that an equitable partition always exists. We then derive the integer decomposition property of the associated polytopes.

In this paper, by constructing some identities, we prove some $q$-analogues of some congruences. For example, for any odd integer $n>1$, we show that \begin{gather*} \sum_{k=0}^{n-1} \frac{(q^{-1};q^2)_k}{(q;q)_k} q^k \equiv (-1)^{(n+1)/2} q^{(n^2-1)/4} - (1+q)[n] \pmod{Φ_n(q)^2},\\ \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\frac{(q^3;q^2)_k}{(q;q)_k} q^k \equiv (-1)^{(n+1)/2} q^{(n^2-9)/4} + \frac{1+q}{q^2}[n]\pmod{Φ_n(q)^2}, \end{gather*} where the $q$-Pochhanmmer symbol is defined by $(x;q)_0=1$ and $(x;q)_k = (1-x)(1-xq)\cdots(1-xq^{k-1})$ for $k\geq1$, the $q$-integer is defined by $[n]=1+q+\cdots+q^{n-1}$ and $Φ_n(q)$ is the $n$-th cyclotomic polynomial. The $q$-congruences above confirm some recent conjectures of Gu and Guo.
Equitable 2-partitions of Johnson graphs with the second eigenvalue
We study equitable 2-partitions of the Johnson graphs J(n,w) with a quotient matrix containing the eigenvalue lambda_2(w,n) = (w-2)(n-w-2)-2 in its spectrum. For any w>=4 and n>=2w, we find all admissible quotient matrices of such partitions, and characterize all these partitions for w>=4, n>2w, and for w>=7, n = 2w, up to equivalence.

We consider systems of $n$ diagonal equations in $k$th powers. Our main result shows that if the coefficient matrix of such a system is sufficiently non-singular, then the system is partition regular if and only if it satisfies Rado's columns condition. Furthermore, if the system also admits constant solutions, then we prove that the system has non-trivial solutions over every set of integers of positive upper density.

We characterize the topological configurations of points and lines that may arise when placing n points on a circle and drawing the n perpendicular bisectors of the sides of the corresponding convex cyclic n-gon. We also provide exact and asymptotic formulas describing a random realizable configuration, obtained either by sampling the points uniformly at random on the circle or by sampling a realizable configuration uniformly at random.
Interfaces in the vertex-decorated Ising model on random triangulations of the disk
We provide a framework to study the interfaces imposed by Dobrushin boundary conditions on the half-plane version of the Ising model on random triangulations with spins on vertices. Using the combinatorial solution by Albenque, Ménard and Schaeffer ([2]) and the generating function methods introduced by Chen and Turunen ([8], [9]), we show the local weak convergence of such triangulations of the disk as the perimeter tends to infinity, and study the interface imposed by the Dobrushin boundary condition. As a consequence of this analysis, we verify the heuristics of physics literature that discrete interface of the model in the high-temperature regime resembles the critical site percolation interface, as well as provide an explicit scaling limit of the interface length at the critical temperature, which coincides with results on the continuum Liouville Quantum gravity surfaces. Overall, this model exhibits simpler structure than the model with spins on faces, as well as demonstrates the robustness of the methods developed in [8], [9].
Implementing Suffix Array Algorithm Using Apache Big Table Data Implementation
In this paper we will describe a new approach on the well-known suffix-array algorithm using Big Table Data Technology. We will demonstrate how it is possible to refactor a well-known algorithm coupled by taking advantage of an high-performance distributed datastore, to illustrate the advantages of using datastore cloud related technology for storing large text sequences and retrieving them. A case study using DNA strings, considered one of the most difficult pattern matching problem, will be described and evaluated to demonstrate the potentiality of this implementation. Further discussion on performances and other big data related issues will be described as well as new possible lines of research in big data technology for precise medical applications.

Dihedral codes, particular cases of quasi-cyclic codes, have a nice algebraic structure which allows to store them efficiently. In this paper, we investigate it and prove some lower bounds on their dimension and minimum distance, in analogy with the theory of BCH codes. This allows us to construct dihedral codes with prescribed minimum distance. In the binary case, we present some examples of optimal dihedral codes obtained by this construction.

Let $W$ be an irreducible complex reflection group acting on its reflection representation $V$. We consider the doubly graded action of $W$ on the exterior algebra $\wedge (V \oplus V^*)$ as well as its quotient $DR_W := \wedge (V \oplus V^*)/ \langle \wedge (V \oplus V^*)^{W}_+ \rangle$ by the ideal generated by its homogeneous $W$-invariants with vanishing constant term. We describe the bigraded isomorphism type of $DR_W$; when $W = \mathfrak{S}_n$ is the symmetric group, the answer is a difference of Kronecker products of hook-shaped $\mathfrak{S}_n$-modules. We relate the Hilbert series of $DR_W$ to the (type A) Catalan and Narayana numbers and describe a standard monomial basis of $DR_W$ using a variant of Motzkin paths. Our methods are type-uniform and involve a Lefschetz-like theory which applies to the exterior algebra $\wedge (V \oplus V^*)$.
Complex uniformly resolvable decompositions of $K_v$
In this paper we consider the complex uniformly resolvable decompositions of the complete graph $K_v$ into subgraphs such that each resolution class contains only blocks isomorphic to the same graph from a given set $\mathcal H$. We completely determine the spectrum for the cases $\mathcal{H} = \{K_2, P_3, K_3\}$, $\mathcal{H} = \{P_4, C_4\}$, and $\mathcal{H} = \{K_2, P_4, C_4\}$.

In this paper weighted endpoint estimates for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on {the infinite rooted} $k$-ary tree are provided. Motivated by Naor and Tao the following Fefferman-Stein estimate \[ w\left(\left\{ x\in T\,:\,Mf(x)>λ\right\} \right)\leq c_{s}\frac{1}λ\int_{T}|f(x)|M(w^{s})(x)^{\frac{1}{s}}dx\qquad s>1 \] is settled and moreover it {is shown it} is sharp, in the sense that it does not hold in general if $s=1$. Some examples of non trivial weights such that the weighted weak type $(1,1)$ estimate holds are provided. A {strong} Fefferman-Stein type estimate and as a consequence some vector valued extensions are obtained. In the Appendix a weighted counterpart of the abstract {theorem} of Soria and Tradacete on infinite trees is established.
On the intersection distribution of degree three polynomials and related topics

The intersection distribution of a polynomial $f$ over finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ was recently proposed in Li and Pott (arXiv:2003.06678v1), which concerns the collective behaviour of a collection of polynomials $\{f(x)+cx \mid c \in \mathbb{F}_q\}$. The intersection distribution has an underlying geometric interpretation, which indicates the intersection pattern between the graph of $f$ and the lines in the affine plane $AG(2,q)$. When $q$ is even, the long-standing open problem of classifying o-polynomials can be rephrased in a simple way, namely, classifying all polynomials which have the same intersection distribution as $x^2$. Inspired by this connection, we proceed to consider the next simplest case and derive the intersection distribution for all degree three polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_q$ with $q$ both odd and even. Moreover, we initiate to classify all monomials having the same intersection distribution as $x^3$, where some characterizations of such monomials are obtained and a conjecture is proposed. In addition, two applications of the intersection distributions of degree three polynomials are presented. The first one is the construction of nonisomorphic Steiner triple systems and the second one produces infinite families of Kakeya sets in affine planes with previously unknown sizes.
