The main result of the paper is a construction of a five-parameter family of new bases in the algebra of symmetric functions. These bases are inhomogeneous and share many properties of systems of orthogonal polynomials on an interval of the real line. This means, in particular, that the algebra of symmetric functions is embedded into the algebra of continuous functions on a certain compact space Omega, and under this realization, our bases turn into orthogonal bases of weighted Hilbert spaces corresponding to certain probability measures on Omega. These measures are of independent interest --- they are an infinite-dimensional analogue of the multidimensional q-Beta distributions. Our construction uses the big q-Jacobi polynomials and an extension of the Knop-Okounkov-Sahi multivariate interpolation polynomials to the case of infinite number of variables.
Products of Differences over Arbitrary Finite Fields

There exists an absolute constant $δ> 0$ such that for all $q$ and all subsets $A \subseteq \mathbb{F}_q$ of the finite field with $q$ elements, if $|A| > q^{2/3 - δ}$, then \[ |(A-A)(A-A)| = |\{ (a -b) (c-d) : a,b,c,d \in A\}| > \frac{q}{2}. \] Any $δ< 1/13,542$ suffices for sufficiently large $q$. This improves the condition $|A| > q^{2/3}$, due to Bennett, Hart, Iosevich, Pakianathan, and Rudnev, that is typical for such questions.
Our proof is based on a qualitatively optimal characterisation of sets $A,X \subseteq \mathbb{F}_q$ for which the number of solutions to the equation \[ (a_1-a_2) = x (a_3-a_4) \, , \; a_1,a_2, a_3, a_4 \in A, x \in X \] is nearly maximum.
A key ingredient is determining exact algebraic structure of sets $A, X$ for which $|A + XA|$ is nearly minimum, which refines a result of Bourgain and Glibichuk using work of Gill, Helfgott, and Tao.
We also prove a stronger statement for \[ (A-B)(C-D) = \{ (a -b) (c-d) : a \in A, b \in B, c \in C, d \in D\} \] when $A,B,C,D$ are sets in a prime field, generalising a result of Roche-Newton, Rudnev, Shkredov, and the authors.
Robust randomized matchings

The following game is played on a weighted graph: Alice selects a matching $M$ and Bob selects a number $k$. Alice's payoff is the ratio of the weight of the $k$ heaviest edges of $M$ to the maximum weight of a matching of size at most $k$. If $M$ guarantees a payoff of at least $α$ then it is called $α$-robust. In 2002, Hassin and Rubinstein gave an algorithm that returns a $1/\sqrt{2}$-robust matching, which is best possible.
We show that Alice can improve her payoff to $1/\ln(4)$ by playing a randomized strategy. This result extends to a very general class of independence systems that includes matroid intersection, b-matchings, and strong 2-exchange systems. It also implies an improved approximation factor for a stochastic optimization variant known as the maximum priority matching problem and translates to an asymptotic robustness guarantee for deterministic matchings, in which Bob can only select numbers larger than a given constant. Moreover, we give a new LP-based proof of Hassin and Rubinstein's bound.
Holomorphic primary fields in free CFT4 and Calabi-Yau orbifolds

Counting formulae for general primary fields in free four dimensional conformal field theories of scalars, vectors and matrices are derived. These are specialised to count primaries which obey extremality conditions defined in terms of the dimensions and left or right spins (i.e. in terms of relations between the charges under the Cartan subgroup of $SO(4,2)$). The construction of primary fields for scalar field theory is mapped to a problem of determining multi-variable polynomials subject to a system of symmetry and differential constraints. For the extremal primaries, we give a construction in terms of holomorphic polynomial functions on permutation orbifolds, which are shown to be Calabi-Yau spaces.
On Variations of Nim and Chomp
We study two variations of Nim and Chomp which we call Monotonic Nim and Diet Chomp. In Monotonic Nim the moves are the same as in Nim, but the positions are non-decreasing numbers as in Chomp. Diet-Chomp is a variation of Chomp, where the total number of squares removed is limited.
A quartet of fermionic expressions for $M(k,2k\pm1)$ Virasoro characters via half-lattice paths

We derive new fermionic expressions for the characters of the Virasoro minimal models $M(k,2k\pm1)$ by analysing the recently introduced half-lattice paths. These fermionic expressions display a quasiparticle formulation characteristic of the $φ_{2,1}$ and $φ_{1,5}$ integrable perturbations. We find that they arise by imposing a simple restriction on the RSOS quasiparticle states of the unitary models $M(p,p+1)$. In fact, four fermionic expressions are obtained for each generating function of half-lattice paths of finite length $L$, and these lead to four distinct expressions for most characters $χ^{k,2k\pm1}_{r,s}$. These are direct analogues of Melzer's expressions for $M(p,p+1)$, and their proof entails revisiting, reworking and refining a proof of Melzer's identities which used combinatorial transforms on lattice paths.
We also derive a bosonic version of the generating functions of length $L$ half-lattice paths, this expression being notable in that it involves $q$-trinomial coefficients. Taking the $L\to\infty$ limit shows that the generating functions for infinite length half-lattice paths are indeed the Virasoro characters $χ^{k,2k\pm1}_{r,s}$.
Good Bounds in Certain Systems of True Complexity One

Let $Φ= (φ_1,\dots,φ_6)$ be a system of $6$ linear forms in $3$ variables, i.e. $φ_i \colon \mathbb{Z}^3 \to \mathbb{Z}$ for each $i$. Suppose also that $Φ$ has Cauchy--Schwarz complexity $2$ and true complexity $1$, in the sense defined by Gowers and Wolf; in fact this is true generically in this setting. Finally let $G = \mathbb{F}_p^n$ for any $p$ prime and $n \ge 1$. Then we show that multilinear averages by $Φ$ are controlled by the $U^2$-norm, with a polynomial dependence; i.e. if $f_1,\dots,f_6 \colon G \to \mathbb{C}$ are functions with $\|f_i\|_{\infty} \le 1$ for each $i$, then for each $j$, $1 \le j \le 6$:
\[
\left| \mathbb{E}_{x_1,x_2,x_3 \in G} f_1(\varphi_1(x_1,x_2,x_3)) \dots f_6(φ_6(x_1,x_2,x_3)) \right| \le \|f_j\|_{U^2}^{1/C}
\] for some $C > 0$ depending on $Φ$. This recovers and strengthens a result of Gowers and Wolf in these cases. Moreover, the proof uses only multiple applications of the Cauchy--Schwarz inequality, avoiding appeals to the inverse theory of the Gowers norms.
We also show that some dependence of $C$ on $Φ$ is necessary; that is, the constant $C$ can unavoidably become large as the coefficients of $Φ$ grow.
Large deviations for subcritical bootstrap percolation on the random graph

We study atypical behavior in bootstrap percolation on the Erdős-Rényi random graph. Initially a set $S$ is infected. Other vertices are infected once at least $r$ of their neighbors become infected. Janson et al. (2012) locates the critical size of $S$, above which it is likely that the infection will spread almost everywhere. Below this threshold, a central limit theorem is proved for the size of the eventually infected set. In this note, we calculate the rate function for the event that a small set $S$ eventually infects an unexpected number of vertices, and identify the least-cost trajectory realizing such a large deviation.
Sharp bounds for the Randic index of graphs with given minimum and maximum degree
The Randi{\' c} index of a graph $G$, written $R(G)$, is the sum of $\frac 1{\sqrt{d(u)d(v)}}$ over all edges $uv$ in $E(G)$. %let $R(G)=\sum_{uv \in E(G)} \frac 1{\sqrt{d(u)d(v)}}$, which is called the Randi{\' c} index of it. Let $d$ and $D$ be positive integers $d < D$. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is a graph with minimum degree $d$ and maximum degree $D$, then $R(G) \ge \frac{\sqrt{dD}}{d+D}n$; equality holds only when $G$ is an $n$-vertex $(d,D)$-biregular. Furthermore, we show that if $G$ is an $n$-vertex connected graph with minimum degree $d$ and maximum degree $D$, then $R(G) \le \frac n2- \sum_{i=d}^{D-1}\frac 12 \left( \frac 1{\sqrt{i}} - \frac 1{\sqrt{i+1}}\right)^2$; it is sharp for infinitely many $n$, and we characterize when equality holds in the bound.
A bijection between bargraphs and Dyck paths

Bargraphs are a special class of convex polyominoes. They can be identified with lattice paths with unit steps north, east, and south that start at the origin, end on the $x$-axis, and stay strictly above the $x$-axis everywhere except at the endpoints. Bargraphs, which are used to represent histograms and to model polymers in statistical physics, have been enumerated in the literature by semiperimeter and by several other statistics, using different methods such as the wasp-waist decomposition of Bousquet-Mélou and Rechnitzer, and a bijection with certain Motzkin paths.
In this paper we describe an unusual bijection between bargraphs and Dyck paths, and study how some statistics are mapped by the bijection. As a consequence, we obtain a new interpretation of Catalan numbers, as counting bargraphs where the semiperimeter minus the number of peaks is fixed.

In this paper we study the structure of $θ$-cyclic codes over the ring $B_k$ including its connection to quasi-$\tildeθ$-cyclic codes over finite field $\mathbb{F}_{p^r}$ and skew polynomial rings over $B_k.$ We also characterize Euclidean self-dual $θ$-cyclic codes over the rings. Finally, we give the generator polynomial for such codes and some examples of optimal Euclidean $θ$-cyclic codes.
Chamber structure for some equivariant relative Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathbb{P}^1$ in genus $0$

In this paper, we study genus $0$ equivariant relative Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathbb{P}^1$ whose corresponding relative stable maps are totally ramified over one point. For fixed number of marked points, we show that such invariants are piecewise polynomials in some parameter space. The parameter space can then be divided into polynomial domains, called chambers. We determine the difference of polynomials between two neighboring chambers. In some special chamber, which we called the totally negative chamber, we show that such a polynomial can be expressed in a simple way. The chamber structure here shares some similarities to that of double Hurwitz numbers.

A general vanishing result for the first cohomology group of affine smooth complex varieties with values in rank one local systems is established. This is applied to the determination of the monodromy action on the first cohomology group of the Milnor fiber of some line arrangements, including the monomial arrangement and the exceptional reflection arrangement of type $G_{31}$.
On the maximum degree of path-pairable planar graphs
A graph is path-pairable if for any pairing of its vertices there exist edge-disjoint paths joining the vertices in each pair. We investigate the behaviour of the maximum degree in path-pairable planar graphs. We show that any $n$-vertex path-pairable planar graph must contain a vertex of degree linear in $n$.

We explore a general method based on trees of elementary submodels in order to present highly simplified proofs to numerous results in infinite combinatorics. While countable elementary submodels have been employed in such settings already, we significantly broaden this framework by developing the corresponding technique for countably closed models of size continuum. The applications range from various theorems on paradoxical decompositions of the plane, to coloring sparse set systems, results on graph chromatic number and constructions from point-set topology. Our main purpose is to demonstrate the ease and wide applicability of this method in a form accessible to anyone with a basic background in set theory and logic.

In 1996, Jackson and Martin proved that a strong ideal ramp scheme is equivalent to an orthogonal array. However, there was no good characterization of ideal ramp schemes that are not strong. Here we show the equivalence of ideal ramp schemes to a new variant of orthogonal arrays that we term augmented orthogonal arrays. We give some constructions for these new kinds of arrays, and, as a consequence, we also provide parameter situations where ideal ramp schemes exist but strong ideal ramp schemes do not exist.
On the Nonexistence of Some Generalized Folkman Numbers

For an undirected simple graph $G$, we write $G \rightarrow (H_1, H_2)^v$ if and only if for every red-blue coloring of its vertices there exists a red $H_1$ or a blue $H_2$. The generalized vertex Folkman number $F_v(H_1, H_2; H)$ is defined as the smallest integer $n$ for which there exists an $H$-free graph $G$ of order $n$ such that $G \rightarrow (H_1, H_2)^v$. The generalized edge Folkman numbers $F_e(H_1, H_2; H)$ are defined similarly, when colorings of the edges are considered.
We show that $F_e(K_{k+1},K_{k+1};K_{k+2}-e)$ and $F_v(K_k,K_k;K_{k+1}-e)$ are well defined for $k \geq 3$. We prove the nonexistence of $F_e(K_3,K_3;H)$ for some $H$, in particular for $H=B_3$, where $B_k$ is the book graph of $k$ triangular pages, and for $H=K_1+P_4$. We pose three problems on generalized Folkman numbers, including the existence question of edge Folkman numbers $F_e(K_3, K_3; B_4)$, $F_e(K_3, K_3; K_1+C_4)$ and $F_e(K_3, K_3; \overline{P_2 \cup P_3} )$. Our results lead to some general inequalities involving two-color and multicolor Folkman numbers.

We say that a word $w$ of length $kn$ is a $k$-\textit{antipower} if it can be written in the form $w_1 \cdots w_k$, where each $w_i$ is a distinct word of length $n$. We analyze prefixes of the Thue-Morse word $\textbf{t}$ and lengths of antipowers occurring in them. Define $Γ(k)$ to be the largest odd $n$ such that the prefix of $\textbf{t}$ of length $kn$ is not a $k$-antipower, and $γ(k)$ to be the smallest odd $n$ such that the corresponding prefix is a $k$-antipower. We provide strong bounds on the asymptotic values of $γ(k)$ and $Γ(k)-γ(k)$. Our bounds on $γ(k)$ affirmatively answer one conjecture of Defant and make substantial progress towards answering a second conjecture of Defant. It was previously known that $Γ(k)$ and $γ(k)$ grow linearly in $k$, but our bounds on $Γ(k)-γ(k)$ prove that $Γ(k)-γ(k)$ also grows linearly in $k$.
An exact upper bound on the size of minimal clique covers

Indeterminate strings have received considerable attention in the recent past; see for example Christodoulakis et al 2015 and Helling et al 2017. This attention is due to their applicability in bioinformatics, and to the natural correspondence with undirected graphs. One aspect of this correspondence is the fact that the minimal alphabet size of indeterminates representing any given undirected graph corresponds to the size of the minimal clique cover of this graph. This paper solves a related problem proposed in Helling et al 2017: compute $Θ_n(m)$, which is the size of the largest possible minimal clique cover (i.e., an exact upper bound), and hence alphabet size of the corresponding indeterminate, of any graph on $n$ vertices and $m$ edges.
Computing minimal generating systems for some special toric ideals
Let $X_{P}$ be the projective toric surface associated to a lattice polytope $P$. If the number of lattice points lying on the boundary of $P$ is at least $4$, it is known that $X_{P}$ is embeddable into a suitable projective space as zero set of finitely many quadrics. In this case, the determination of a minimal generating system of the toric ideal defining $X_{P}$ is reduced to a simple Gaussian elimination.
