In 1976, P. R. Scott characterized the Ehrhart polynomials of convex integral polygons. We study the same question for Ehrhart polynomials and quasi-polynomials of *non*-integral convex polygons. Turning to the case in which the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial has nontrivial quasi-period, we determine the possible minimal periods of the coefficient functions of the Ehrhart quasi-polynomial of a rational polygon.

Let $X$ be a finite set in a complex sphere of $d$ dimension. Let $D(X)$ be the set of usual inner products of two distinct vectors in $X$. A set $X$ is called a complex spherical $s$-code if the cardinality of $D(X)$ is $s$ and $D(X)$ contains an imaginary number. We would like to classify the largest possible $s$-codes for given dimension $d$. In this paper, we consider the problem for the case $s=3$. Roy and Suda (2014) gave a certain upper bound for the cardinalities of $3$-codes. A $3$-code $X$ is said to be tight if $X$ attains the bound. We show that there exists no tight $3$-code except for dimensions $1$, $2$. Moreover we make an algorithm to classify the largest $3$-codes by considering representations of oriented graphs. By this algorithm, the largest $3$-codes are classified for dimensions $1$, $2$, $3$ with a current computer.

We introduce a theory of volume polynomials and corresponding duality algebras of multi-fans. Any complete simplicial multi-fan $Δ$ determines a volume polynomial $V_Δ$ whose values are the volumes of multi-polytopes based on $Δ$. This homogeneous polynomial is further used to construct a Poincare duality algebra $\mathcal{A}^*(Δ)$. We study the structure and properties of $V_Δ$ and $\mathcal{A}^*(Δ)$ and give applications and connections to other subjects, such as Macaulay duality, Novik--Swartz theory of face rings of simplicial manifolds, generalizations of Minkowski's theorem on convex polytopes, cohomology of torus manifolds, computations of volumes, and linear relations on the powers of linear forms. In particular, we prove that the analogue of the $g$-theorem does not hold for multi-polytopes.
Explicit Bounds for Nondeterministically Testable Hypergraph Parameters
In this note we give a new effective proof method for the equivalence of the notions of testability and nondeterministic testability for uniform hypergraph parameters. We provide the first effective upper bound on the sample complexity of any nondeterministically testable $r$-uniform hypergraph parameter as a function of the sample complexity of its witness parameter for arbitrary $r$. The dependence is of the form of an exponential tower function with the height linear in $r$. Our argument depends crucially on the new upper bounds for the $r$-cut norm of sampled $r$-uniform hypergraphs. We employ also our approach for some other restricted classes of hypergraph parameters, and present some applications.
On Generalized Sierpiński Graphs
In this paper we obtain closed formulae for several parameters of generalized Sierpiński graphs $S(G,t)$ in terms of parameters of the base graph $G$. In particular, we focus on the chromatic, vertex cover, clique and domination numbers.

A graph $G$ is \emph{uniquely k-colorable} if the chromatic number of $G$ is $k$ and $G$ has only one $k$-coloring up to permutation of the colors. For a plane graph $G$, two faces $f_1$ and $f_2$ of $G$ are \emph{adjacent $(i,j)$-faces} if $d(f_1)=i$, $d(f_2)=j$ and $f_1$ and $f_2$ have a common edge, where $d(f)$ is the degree of a face $f$. In this paper, we prove that every uniquely 3-colorable plane graph has adjacent $(3,k)$-faces, where $k\leq 5$. The bound 5 for $k$ is best possible. Furthermore, we prove that there exist a class of uniquely 3-colorable plane graphs having neither adjacent $(3,i)$-faces nor adjacent $(3,j)$-faces, where $i,j\in \{3,4,5\}$ and $i \neq j$. One of our constructions implies that there exist an infinite family of edge-critical uniquely 3-colorable plane graphs with $n$ vertices and $\frac{7}{3}n-\frac{14}{3}$ edges, where $n(\geq 11)$ is odd and $n\equiv 2\pmod{3}$.

In this paper we raise a variant of a classic problem in extremal graph theory, which is motivated by a design of fractional repetition codes, a model in distributed storage systems. For any feasible positive integers $d\geq 3$, $n \geq 3$, and $k$, where $n-1 \leq k \leq \binom{n}{2}$, what is the minimum possible number of vertices in a $d$-regular undirected graph whose subgraphs with $n$ vertices contain at most $k$ edges? The goal of this paper is to give the exact number of vertices for each instance of the problem and also to provide some bounds for general values of $n$, $d$, and $k$. A few general bounds with some exact values, for this Turán-type problem, are given. We present an almost complete solution for $3 \leq n \leq 5$.
On edge-decomposition of cubic graphs into copies of the double-star with four edges
A tree containing exactly two non-pendant vertices is called a double-star. Let $k_1$ and $k_2$ be two positive integers. The double-star with degree sequence $(k_1+1, k_2+1, 1, \ldots, 1)$ is denoted by $S_{k_1, k_2}$. If $G$ is a cubic graph and has an $S$-decomposition, for a double-star $S$, then $S$ is isomorphic to $S_{1,1}$, $S_{1,2}$ or $S_{2,2}$. It is known that a cubic graph has an $S_{1,1}$-decomposition if and only if it contains a perfect matching. In this paper we study the $S_{1,2}$-decomposition of cubic graphs. First, we present some necessary conditions for the existence of an $S_{1,2}$-decomposition in cubic graphs. Then we prove that every $\{C_3, C_5, C_7\}$-free cubic graph of order $n$ with $α(G)= \frac{3n}{8}$ has an $S_{1,2}$-decomposition, where $α(G)$ denotes the independence number of $G$. Finally, we obtain some results on the $S_{1,r-1}$-decomposition of $r$-regular graphs.
Multibasic Ehrhart theory
In the present paper, we introduce a multibasic extension of the Ehrhart theory. We give a multibasic extension of Ehrhart polynomials and Ehrhart series. We also show that an analogue of Ehrhart reciprocity holds for multibasic Ehrhart polynomials.

Extending earlier results of Godsil and of Dobson and Malnic on Johnson graphs, we characterise those merged Johnson graphs $J=J(n,k)_I$ which are Cayley graphs, that is, which are connected and have a group of automorphisms acting regularly on the vertices. We also characterise the merged Johnson graphs which are not Cayley graphs but which have a transitive group of automorphisms with vertex-stabilisers of order $2$. Even though these merged Johnson graphs are all vertex-transitive, we show that only relatively few of them are Cayley graphs or have a transitive group of automorphisms with vertex-stabilisers of order $2$.

We prove rapid mixing of the worm process for the zero-field ferromagnetic Ising model, on all finite connected graphs, and at all temperatures. As a corollary, we obtain a fully-polynomial randomized approximation scheme for the Ising susceptibility, and for a certain restriction of the two-point correlation function

The connective constant $μ(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the asymptotic growth rate of the number $σ_{n}$ of self-avoiding walks of length $n$ in $G$ from a given vertex. We prove a formula for the connective constant for free products of quasi-transitive graphs and show that $σ_{n}\sim A_{G} μ(G)^{n}$ for some constant $A_{G}$ that depends on $G$. In the case of finite products $μ(G)$ can be calculated explicitly and is shown to be an algebraic number.
Non-transversal Vectors of Some Finite Geometries
By means of associated structural invariants, we efficiently construct four biplanes of order 9 - except the one with the smallest automorphism group, that is found by Janko and Trung. The notion of non-transversal vector is introduced since we observed related properties that provide significantly more efficient constructions. There is a dichotomy in the structure of biplanes of order 7 and 9 with respect to the incidence matrix symmetry.

We consider $4$-uniform hypergraphs with the maximum number of hyperedges subject to the condition that every set of $5$ vertices spans either $0$ or exactly $2$ hyperedges and give a construction, using quadratic residues, for an infinite family of such hypergraphs with the maximum number of hyperedges. Baber has previously given an asymptotically best-possible result using random tournaments. We give a connection between Baber's result and our construction via Paley tournaments and investigate a `switching' operation on tournaments that preserves hypergraphs arising from this construction.

Seymour's second neighborhood conjecture states that every simple digraph (without digons) has a vertex whose first out-neighborhood is at most as large as its second out-neighborhood. Such a vertex is said to have the second neighborhood property (SNP). We define "good" digraphs and prove a statement that implies that every feed vertex of a tournament has the SNP. In the case of digraphs missing a matching, we exhibit a feed vertex with the SNP by refining a proof due to Fidler and Yuster and using good digraphs. Moreover, in some cases we exhibit two vertices with SNP.

Extending results of Wyser, we determine formulas for the equivariant cohomology classes of closed orbits of certain families of spherical subgroups of $GL_n$ on the flag variety $GL_n/B$. Putting this together with a slight extension of the results of Can-Joyce-Wyser, we arrive at a family of polynomial identities which show that certain explicit sums of Schubert polynomials factor as products of linear forms.
Obstructions to convexity in neural codes

How does the brain encode spatial structure? One way is through hippocampal neurons called place cells, which become associated to convex regions of space known as their receptive fields: each place cell fires at a high rate precisely when the animal is in the receptive field. The firing patterns of multiple place cells form what is known as a convex neural code. How can we tell when a neural code is convex? To address this question, Giusti and Itskov identified a local obstruction, defined via the topology of a code's simplicial complex, and proved that convex neural codes have no local obstructions. Curto et al. proved the converse for all neural codes on at most four neurons. Via a counterexample on five neurons, we show that this converse is false in general. Additionally, we classify all codes on five neurons with no local obstructions. This classification is enabled by our enumeration of connected simplicial complexes on 5 vertices up to isomorphism. Finally, we examine how local obstructions are related to maximal codewords (maximal sets of neurons that co-fire). Curto et al. proved that a code has no local obstructions if and only if it contains certain "mandatory" intersections of maximal codewords. We give a new criterion for an intersection of maximal codewords to be non-mandatory, and prove that it classifies all such non-mandatory codewords for codes on up to 5 neurons.

Let $ES(n)$ be the minimal integer such that any set of $ES(n)$ points in the plane in general position contains $n$ points in convex position. The problem of estimating $ES(n)$ was first formulated by Erdős and Szekeres, who proved that $ES(n) \leq \binom{2n-4}{n-2}+1$. The current best upper bound, $\lim\sup_{n \to \infty} \frac{ES(n)}{\binom{2n-5}{n-2}}\le \frac{29}{32}$, is due to Vlachos. We improve this to $$\lim\sup_{n \to \infty} \frac{ES(n)}{\binom{2n-5}{n-2}}\le \frac{7}{8}.$$

We study the commutation relations and normal ordering between families of operators on symmetric functions. These operators can be naturally defined by the operations of multiplication, Kronecker product, and their adjoints. As applications we give a new proof of the skew Littlewood-Richardson rule and prove an identity about the Kronecker product with a skew Schur function.
