Unimodality shenanigans in Ehrhart theory
We show the existence of counterexamples to a four-decade-old conjecture attributed to Stanley concerning the unimodality of $h^*$-polynomials of IDP polytopes. As additional applications of our main constructions, we also disprove a conjecture by Brenti on the log-concavity of $h^*$-polynomials of Gorenstein IDP polytopes, and a conjecture by Ferroni and Higashitani concerning the log-concavity of the Ehrhart series of IDP polytopes. We also answer their question about the existence of very ample polytopes with non-log-concave interior Ehrhart series. Our class of examples arises by taking Cayley sums of rectangular prisms, and hence they possess regular unimodular flag triangulations by a result of Haase, Paffenholz, Piechnik and Santos. For the unimodality conjecture, we can even find smooth counterexamples.

A lattice path model for the volume of the Monge polytope
Monge matrices arise throughout combinatorial optimization and algorithm design; the Monge polytope $\mathcal{M}_{pq}$ is the set of $p \times q$ Monge matrices lying inside the standard simplex on the set of matrix coordinates. We find a Stanley decomposition of the associated affine semigroup, and use it to obtain a volume formula for $\mathcal{M}_{pq}$ expressed as a sum over "Z-avoiding" Delannoy paths in a $p \times q$ grid. An efficient dynamic-programming implementation of this formula computes the volume in dimensions far beyond the reach of general-purpose exact-volume algorithms (e.g., the volume of $\mathcal{M}_{20,20}$, which has dimension 399, is computed in a fraction of a second). As a corollary of our Stanley decomposition, we also obtain a combinatorial closed form for the Ehrhart series of $\mathcal{M}_{pq}$.

Graded Ehrhart theory for hypersimplices
We prove that the $q$-Ehrhart series of a hyperplane slice of a cube is a rational function with an explicit denominator that satisfies $q$-reciprocity, confirming a conjecture of Reiner and Rhoades for these polytopes. To do this, we find a generating set for the orbit harmonics ideal, which also yields the Hilbert series and graded Frobenius characteristic of the associated quotient. We further show that the harmonic algebra of a hypersimplex $Δ$ is generated as an algebra by the harmonic space of $Δ$ using structural results on 2-factors of regular multigraphs. In particular, the harmonic algebra is finitely generated, giving a second proof of rationality.

The Ehrhart series of magic squares of order seven
Let $\mathrm{IMS}_n(m)$ denote the number of $n\times n$ nonnegative integer matrices whose row sums, column sums, and two main diagonal sums are all equal to $m$. We determine the Ehrhart series $F_7(q)=\sum_{m\ge 0}\mathrm{IMS}_7(m)q^m$ as a reduced rational function. The denominator has degree $373$ and cyclotomic factors of order at most $15$; the numerator is a palindromic polynomial of degree $366$ with nonnegative integer coefficients. Using the SimpCone decomposition, the associated polytope is represented as a sum of $166$ million signed simplicial cones. The LRQC evaluator computes their generating functions over finite fields; a typical cone requires only one or two quotient characters, and the cost per character is nearly linear in the truncation degree $T$. An explicit common denominator together with Ehrhart reciprocity reduces the rational reconstruction to the prefix up to $T=1256$, while an explicit counting bound supplies the coefficient bounds needed for deterministic lifting from the prime fields to $\mathbb Z$. This prefix is independently computed for the whole cone family in eight prime fields. Exact Chinese remaindering lifts the verified residues to equality over $\mathbb Z$, the finite-prefix criterion proves the rational identity, and exact polynomial gcds prove that the displayed denominator is reduced.

Alternating adjacent-sum polytopes: transfer matrices and Ehrhart series
We study a period-two family of adjacent-sum lattice polytopes whose consecutive-coordinate bounds alternate between $s$ and $s+1$. This provides a simple non-uniform deformation of the classical uniform model while retaining an explicit transfer-matrix structure. The lattice-point counts exhibit a parity split: the odd- and even-dimensional sequences have distinct rational generating functions with a common denominator. The odd-dimensional series satisfies a Möbius recurrence and admits an arctangent closed form, whereas the even-dimensional series obeys a coupled recurrence. Their common dominant pole determines the exponential growth in both parity classes. For the cyclic model obtained by adding a constraint between the first and last coordinates, the count becomes a matrix trace. The two cyclic parity classes again have rational generating functions with the same denominator; the even-dimensional numerator has a Jacobi-derivative form, while the odd-dimensional one is given by an explicit anti-diagonal cofactor expression. We also derive dimension-generating functions for fixed dilations, linear recurrences for lattice-point counts, rational volume-generating functions, and a bivariate identity for the coefficients of the $h^*$-polynomials. When $s=1$, every even-dimensional polytope decomposes into a Cartesian product of unimodular triangles, yielding explicit formulas and the Gorenstein property. For every $s\geq 2$, the Gorenstein property fails in some even dimension.

Several properties of summatory Ehrhart polynomials and series of convex lattice polytopes
In this article, for a convex lattice polytope, we further investigate the summatory function of its Ehrhart polynomial, which is called the summatory Ehrhart polynomial, and introduce its summatory Ehrhart series. We prove several fundamental properties of these invariants. In particular, we derive a summatory analogue of the classical Ehrhart--Macdonald reciprocity law, which establishes a signed functional equation between the polytope and its relative interior via the substitution $t \mapsto 1-t.$

Graded Ehrhart Theory of Unimodular Zonotopes
Graded Ehrhart theory is a new $q$-analogue of Ehrhart theory based on the orbit harmonics method. We study the graded Ehrhart theory of unimodular zonotopes from a matroid-theoretic perspective. Generalizing a result of Stanley (1991), we prove that the graded lattice point count of a unimodular zonotope is a $q$-evaluation of its Tutte polynomial. We conclude that the graded Ehrhart series of a unimodular zonotope is rational and obeys graded Ehrhart--Macdonald reciprocity. In an algebraic direction, we prove that the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope is a coordinate ring of its associated arrangement Schubert variety. Using the geometry of arrangement Schubert varieties, we prove that the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope is finitely generated and Cohen--Macaulay. We also give an explicit presentation of the harmonic algebra of a unimodular zonotope in terms of generators and relations. We conclude by classifying which unimodular zonotopes have Gorenstein harmonic algebras. Our work answers, in the special case of unimodular zonotopes, two conjectures of Reiner and Rhoades (2024).
Ehrhart Theory over Abelian Group Rings
We study Ehrhart series with coefficients in Abelian group rings. This opens new enumeration applications and unifies earlier variants, in particular, polynomial weighted, $q$-weighted, and equivariant Ehrhart series.
A geometric and generating function approach to plethysm
Plethysm coefficients $\mathsf{a}_{μ[ν]}^λ$ are the structure coefficients of the plethysm of Schur functions $s_μ[s_ν] = \sum_λ \mathsf{a}_{μ[ν]}^λs_λ$. We study a bivariate generating function of plethysm coefficients when $λ$ has bounded length. We show that this generating function is rational. A key step is MacMahon's combinatory analysis. When the bound on the length is $2$ we give an explicit geometric algorithm to compute it using $q$-Ehrhart theory. We give evidence that the generating function is the quantum Ehrhart series of a union of half-open polytopes and show that it satisfies a reciprocity theorem reminiscent of Ehrhart reciprocity. Furthermore, we give a set of linear recursions that completely describe the $\mathrm{SL}_2$-plethysm coefficients.

Graded Ehrhart theory and toric geometry
We give two new constructions of the harmonic algebra of a lattice polytope $P$, a bigraded algebra whose character is the $q$-Ehrhart series of $P$ defined by Reiner and Rhoades. First, we show that the harmonic algebra is the associated graded algebra of the semigroup algebra of $P$ with respect to a certain natural filtration, clarifying it's relationship with the more classical semigroup algebra. We then give a geometric interpretation of the harmonic algebra as a quotient of the ring of global sections of a certain family of line bundles on the blowup of the toric variety associated to $P$ at a generic point. Using this connection to toric geometry we resolve one the main conjectures of Reiner and Rhoades by showing that the harmonic algebra is not finitely generated in general.
Examples of IDP lattice polytopes with non-log-concave $h^*$-vector
Lattice polytopes are called IDP polytopes if they have the integer decomposition property, i.e., any lattice point in a $k$th dilation is a sum of $k$ lattice points in the polytope. It is a long-standing conjecture whether the numerator of the Ehrhart series of an IDP polytope, called the $h^*$-polynomial, has a unimodal coefficient vector. In this preliminary report on research in progress we present examples showing that $h^*$-vectors of IDP polytopes do not have to be log-concave. This answers a question of Luis Ferroni and Akihiro Higashitani. As this is an ongoing project, this paper will be updated with more details and examples in the near future.

Order polytopes of graded posets are gamma-effective
Order polytopes of posets have been a very rich topic at the crossroads between combinatorics and discrete geometry since their definition by Stanley in 1986. Among other notable results, order polytopes of graded posets are known to be $γ$-nonnegative by work of Brändén, who introduced the concept of sign-graded poset in the process. In the present paper we are interested in proving an equivariant version of Brändén's result, using the tools of equivariant Ehrhart theory (introduced by Stapledon in 2011). Namely, we prove that order polytopes of graded posets are always $γ$-effective, i.e., that the $γ$-polynomial associated with the equivariant $h^*$-polynomial of the order polytope of any graded poset has coefficients consisting of actual characters. To reach this goal, we develop a theory of order polytopes of sign-graded posets, and find a formula to express the numerator of the equivariant Ehrhart series of such an object in terms of the saturations (à la Brändén) of the given sign-graded poset.

Oriented Matroid Circuit Polytopes
Matroids give rise to several natural constructions of polytopes. Inspired by this, we examine polytopes that arise from the signed circuits of an oriented matroid. We give the dimensions of these polytopes arising from graphical oriented matroids and their duals. Moreover, we consider polytopes constructed from cocircuits of oriented matroids generated by the positive roots in any type A root system. We give an explicit description of their face structure and determine the Ehrhart series. We also study an action of the symmetric group on these polytopes, giving a full description the subpolytopes fixed by each permutation. These type A polytopes are graphic zonotopes, are polar duals of symmetric edge polytopes, and also make an appearance in Stapledon's paper introducing Equivariant Ehrhart Theory.

Ehrhart Polynomials of Order Polytopes: Interpreting Combinatorial Sequences on the OEIS
In this paper, we provide an overview of Ehrhart polynomials associated with order polytopes of finite posets, a concept first introduced by Stanley. We focus on their combinatorial interpretations for many sequences listed on the OEIS. We begin by exploring the Ehrhart series of order polytopes resulting from various poset operations, specifically the ordinal sum and direct sum. We then concentrate on the poset $P_λ$ associated with the Ferrers diagram of a partition $λ= (λ_1, λ_2, \ldots, λ_t)$. When $λ= (k, k-1, \ldots, 1)$, the Ehrhart polynomial is a shifted Hankel determinant of the well-known Catalan numbers; when $λ= (k, k, \ldots, k)$, the Ehrhart polynomial is solved by Stanley's hook content formula and is used to prove conjectures for the sequence [A140934] on the OEIS. When solving these problems, we rediscover Kreweras' determinant formula for the Ehrhart polynomial $\mathrm{ehr}(\mathcal{O}(P_λ), n)$ through the application of the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot lemma on non-intersecting lattice paths.
Ehrhart Functions of Weighted Lattice Points
This paper studies three different ways to assign weights to the lattice points of a convex polytope and discusses the algebraic and combinatorial properties of the resulting weighted Ehrhart functions and their generating functions and associated rings. These will be called $q$-weighted, $r$-weighted, and $s$-weighted Ehrhart functions, respectively. The key questions we investigate are \emph{When are the weighted Ehrhart series rational functions and which classical Ehrhart theory properties are preserved? And, when are the abstract formal power series the Hilbert series of Ehrhart rings of some polytope?} We prove generalizations about weighted Ehrhart $h^*$-coefficients of $q$-weighted Ehrhart series, and show $q$- and $s$-weighted Ehrhart reciprocity theorems. Then, we show the $q$- and $r$-weighted Ehrhart rings are the (classical) Ehrhart rings of weight lifting polytopes.

The Ehrhart series of alcoved polytopes
Alcoved polytopes are convex polytopes, which are the closure of a union of alcoves in an affine Coxeter arrangement. They are rational polytopes and, therefore, have Ehrhart quasipolynomials. Here we describe a method for computing the generating function of the Ehrhart quasipolynomial, or Ehrhart series, of any alcoved polytope via a particular shelling order of its alcoves. We also show a connection between Early's decorated ordered set partitions and this shelling order for the hypersimplex $Δ_{2,n}$.

The Ehrhart $h^*$-polynomials of positroid polytopes
A positroid is a matroid realized by a matrix such that all maximal minors are non-negative. Positroid polytopes are matroid polytopes of positroids. In particular, they are lattice polytopes. The Ehrhart polynomial of a lattice polytope counts the number of integer points in the dilation of that polytope. The Ehrhart series is the generating function of the Ehrhart polynomial, a rational function with a numerator called the $h^*$-polynomial. We give explicit formulas for the $h^*$-polynomials of an arbitrary positroid polytope regarding permutation descents. Our result generalizes that of Early, Kim, and Li for hypersimplices.

Proof of a conjecture on graph polytope
Graph polytopes arising from vertex-weighted graphs were first introduced by Bóna, Ju, and Yoshida. We prove a conjecture stating that for any simple connected graph, the numerator polynomial of the Ehrhart series of its graph polytope is palindromic, using Stanley's reciprocity theorem. Furthermore, we introduce hypergraph polytopes and establish that every simple, connected, unimodular hypergraph polytope is an integer polytope. Additionally, for simple connected uniform hypergraph polytopes, we demonstrate that the numerator polynomial of their Ehrhart series is palindromic.

Harmonics and graded Ehrhart theory
The Ehrhart polynomial and Ehrhart series count lattice points in integer dilations of a lattice polytope. We introduce and study a $q$-deformation of the Ehrhart series, based on the notions of harmonic spaces and Macaulay's inverse systems for coordinate rings of finite point configurations. We conjecture that this $q$-Ehrhart series is a rational function, and introduce and study a bigraded algebra whose Hilbert series matches the $q$-Ehrhart series. Defining this algebra requires a new result on Macaulay inverse systems for Minkowski sums of point configurations.

Equivariant Hilbert and Ehrhart series under translative group actions
We study representations of finite groups on Stanley--Reisner rings of simplicial complexes and on lattice points in lattice polytopes. The framework of translative group actions allows us to use the theory of proper colorings of simplicial complexes without requiring an explicit coloring to be given. We prove that the equivariant Hilbert series of a Cohen--Macaulay simplicial complex under a translative group action admits a rational expression whose numerator is a positive integer combination of irreducible characters. This implies an analogous rational expression for the equivariant Ehrhart series of a lattice polytope with a unimodular triangulation that is invariant under a translative group action. As an application, we study the equivariant Ehrhart series of alcoved polytopes in the sense of Lam and Postnikov and derive explicit results in the case of order polytopes and of Lipschitz poset polytopes.
