Tile Count in the Interior of Regular 2n-gons Dissected by Diagonals Parallel to Sides
The regular 2n-gon (square, hexagon, octagon, ...) is subdivided into smaller polygons (tiles) by the subset of diagonals which run parallel to any of the 2n sides. The manuscript reports on the number of tiles up to the 78-gon.
Random $k$-noncrossing partitions
In this paper, we introduce polynomial time algorithms that generate random $k$-noncrossing partitions and 2-regular, $k$-noncrossing partitions with uniform probability. A $k$-noncrossing partition does not contain any $k$ mutually crossing arcs in its canonical representation and is 2-regular if the latter does not contain arcs of the form $(i,i+1)$. Using a bijection of Chen {\it et al.} \cite{Chen,Reidys:08tan}, we interpret $k$-noncrossing partitions and 2-regular, $k$-noncrossing partitions as restricted generalized vacillating tableaux. Furthermore, we interpret the tableaux as sampling paths of a Markov-processes over shapes and derive their transition probabilities.
Balanced Properties of the q-Derangement Numbers and the q-Catalan Numbers
Based on Bona's condition for the balanced property of the number of cycles of permutations, we give a general criterion for the balanced property in terms of the generating function of a statistic. We show that the q-derangement numbers and the q-Catalan numbers satisfy the balanced property.

For every prime $p > 2$ we exhibit a Cayley graph of $\mathbb{Z}_p^{2p+3}$ which is not a CI-graph. This proves that an elementary Abelian $p$-group of rank greater than or equal to $2p+3$ is not a CI-group. The proof is elementary and uses only multivariate polynomials and basic tools of linear algebra. Moreover, we apply our technique to give a uniform explanation for the recent works concerning the bound.

We present and investigate a general model for inhomogeneous random digraphs with labeled vertices, where the arcs are generated independently, and the probability of inserting an arc depends on the labels of its endpoints and its orientation. For this model the critical point for the emergence of a giant component is determined via a branching process approach.

We show that there is an infinite set of primes $\mathcal{P}$ of density one, such that the family of \textit{all} Cayley graphs of $\mathrm{SL}(2,p)$%, $p\in \mathcal{P}$, is a family of expanders.
On a curious property of 3435
Folklore tells us that there are no uninteresting natural numbers. But some natural numbers are more interesting then others. In this article we will explain why 3435 is one of the more interesting natural numbers around. We will show that 3435 is a Munchausen number in base 10, and we will explain what we mean by that. We will further show that for every base there are finitely many Munchausen numbers in that base.
Bicrossproduct Hopf quasigroups
We recall the notion of Hopf quasigroups introduced previously. We construct a bicrossproduct Hopf quasigroup $kM\bicross k(G)$ from every group $X$ with a finite subgroup $G\subset X$ and IP quasigroup transversal $M\subset X$ subject to certain conditions. We identify the octonions quasigroup $G_O$ as transversal in an order 128 group $X$ with subgroup $Z_2^3$ and hence obtain a Hopf quasigroup $kG_O\lcocross k(Z_2^3)$ as a particular case of our construction.

Let $p$ be an odd prime. It is well known that $F_{p-(\frac p5)}\equiv 0\pmod{p}$, where $\{F_n\}_{n\ge0}$ is the Fibonacci sequence and $(-)$ is the Jacobi symbol. In this paper we show that if $p\not=5$ then we may determine $F_{p-(\frac p5)}$ mod $p^3$ in the following way: $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{(-16)^k}\equiv\left(\frac{p}5\right)\left(1+\frac{F_{p-(\frac {p}5)}}2\right)\pmod{p^3}.$$ We also use Lucas quotients to determine $\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\binom{2k}k/m^k$ modulo $p^2$ for any integer $m\not\equiv0\pmod{p}$; in particular, we obtain $$\sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{16^k}\equiv\left(\frac3{p}\right)\pmod{p^2}.$$ In addition, we pose three conjectures for further research.

Let s and t be variables. Define polynomials {n} in s, t by {0}=0, {1}=1, and {n}=s{n-1}+t{n-2} for n >= 2. If s, t are integers then the corresponding sequence of integers is called a Lucas sequence. Define an analogue of the binomial coefficients by
C{n,k}={n}!/({k}!{n-k}!) where {n}!={1}{2}...{n}. It is easy to see that C{n,k} is a polynomial in s and t. The purpose of this note is to give two combinatorial interpretations for this polynomial in terms of statistics on integer partitions inside a k by n-k rectangle. When s=t=1 we obtain combinatorial interpretations of the fibonomial coefficients which are simpler than any that have previously appeared in the literature.

Erd\H os and Rényi claimed and Vu proved that for all $h \ge 2$ and for all $ε> 0$, there exists $g = g_h(ε)$ and a sequence of integers $A$ such that the number of ordered representations of any number as a sum of $h$ elements of $A$ is bounded by $g$, and such that $|A \cap [1,x]| \gg x^{1/h - ε}$.
We give two new proofs of this result. The first one consists of an explicit construction of such a sequence. The second one is probabilistic and shows the existence of such a $g$ that satisfies $g_h(ε) \ll ε^{-1}$, improving the bound $g_h(ε) \ll ε^{-h+1}$ obtained by Vu.
Finally we use the "alteration method" to get a better bound for $g_3(ε)$, obtaining a more precise estimate for the growth of $B_3[g]$ sequences.

We introduce tropical vector bundles, morphisms and rational sections of these bundles and define the pull-back of a tropical vector bundle and of a rational section along a morphism. Afterwards we use the bounded rational sections of a tropical vector bundle to define the Chern classes of this bundle and prove some basic properties of Chern classes. Finally we give a complete classification of all vector bundles on an elliptic curve up to isomorphisms.
Abelian Complexity in Minimal Subshifts

In this paper we undertake the general study of the Abelian complexity of an infinite word on a finite alphabet. We investigate both similarities and differences between the Abelian complexity and the usual subword complexity. While the Thue-Morse minimal subshift is neither characterized by its Abelian complexity nor by its subword complexity alone, we show that the subshift is completely characterized by the two complexity functions together. We give an affirmative answer to an old question of G. Rauzy by exhibiting a class of words whose Abelian complexity is everywhere equal to 3. We also investigate links between Abelian complexity and the existence of Abelian powers. Using van der Waerden's Theorem, we show that any minimal subshift having bounded Abelian complexity contains Abelian k-powers for every positive integer k. In the case of Sturmian words we prove something stronger: For every Sturmian word w and positive integer k, each sufficiently long factor of w begins in an Abelian k-power.

Let $X$ be a set, $\ka$ be a cardinal number and let $\iH$ be a family of subsets of $X$ which covers each $x\in X$ at least $\ka$ times. What assumptions can ensure that $\iH$ can be decomposed into $κ$ many disjoint subcovers?
We examine this problem under various assumptions on the set $X$ and on the cover $\iH$: among other situations, we consider covers of topological spaces by closed sets, interval covers of linearly ordered sets and covers of $\real^{n}$ by polyhedra and by arbitrary convex sets. We focus on these problems mainly for infinite $κ$. Besides numerous positive and negative results, many questions turn out to be independent of the usual axioms of set theory.

Let $e_{n}^k$ be the entries in the classical Euler's difference table. We consider the array $d_{n}^{k}=e_n^k/k!$ for $0\leq k \leq n$, where $d_n^k$ can be interpreted as the number of k-fixed-points-permutations of [n]. We show that the sequence $\{d_n^k\}_{0\leq k\leq n}$ is 2-log-concave and reverse ultra log-concave for any given n.
On $\ell^{p}$-like equivalence relations
For $f \colon [0,1] \rar \real^{+}$, consider the relation $\mathbf{E}_{f}$ on $[0,1]^ω$ defined by $(x_{n}) \mathbf{E}_{f} (y_{n}) \Leftrightarrow \sum_{n < ω} f(|y_{n} - x_{n}|) < \infty.$ We study the Borel reducibility of Borel equivalence relations of the form $\mathbf{E}_{f}$. Our results indicate that for every $1 \leq p < q < \infty$, the order $\leq_{B}$ of Borel reducibility on the set of equivalence relations $\{\bE \colon \bE_{\Id^{p}} \leq_{B} \bE \leq_{B} \bE_{\Id^{q}}\}$ is more complicated than expected, e.g. consistently every linear order of cardinality continuum embeds into it.

Boltzmann Samplers for Colored Combinatorial Objects
In this paper, we give a general framework for the Boltzmann generation of colored objects belonging to combinatorial constructible classes. We propose an intuitive notion called profiled objects which allows the sampling of size-colored objects (and also of k-colored objects) although the corresponding class cannot be described by an analytic ordinary generating function.
Boltzmann Samplers for v-balanced Colored Necklaces
This paper is devoted to the random generation of particular colored necklaces for which the number of beads of a given color is constrained (these necklaces are called v-balanced). We propose an efficient sampler (its expected time complexity is linear) which satisfies the Boltzmann model principle introduced by Duchon, Flajolet, Louchard and Schaeffer. Our main motivation is to show that the absence of a decomposable specification can be circumvented by mixing the Boltzmann samplers with other types of samplers.
